Threads of Saint and Sever: Cut Ties Always Leave A Scar

Rate this book
A paranormal society remains hidden but exists parallel to ours worshipping and fearing the dual Goddesses and is overseen by a ruling class of Elemental warlocks known as the Order. Since the abandonment of her Warlock father, Selma’s connection to her powers and the divergent world that she was born into has become diluted. She retreats into a quiet life only to be jolted back by one phone call. With her friend's life at stake, Selma dabbles with the preternatural powers that she had long given up. Her magical awakening catches the attention of the vengeful council members in search of Selma’s treasonous father. Along with a dark warlock, whose source of power is believed to be long dead.

Or so she thought.

With little power or known whereabouts of her father, how will she appease the council to protect everything she loves? With all eyes on her, Selma’s past comes to call. Along with the reckoning of secrets binding her to history that is much darker than she realized.

I was gifted this book and had low expectations as it appears to be self-published. I was pleasantly pleased by the author’s ability to move her plot forward and with her cast of characters, both of which kept me motivated to push through to the end. She also found some fresh ways to tell a paranormal story with witches and warlocks (which can’t be easy!). I give it three stars for those reasons. Her dialog and prose tend to be awkward and did pull me out of her fictional world, unfortunately.

Fun magic with a satisfying slow burn. This book is great if you love romantasy with an adult protagonist (I know 18 is technically an adult but as an elder millennial sometimes I want to read about someone closer to my age). A highlight for me was the relationship between Selma and her best friend. It’s funny and snarky in only the way true friends can be.

Threads of Saint and Sever grabbed me from the first page. The book's world is vivid and mysterious, blending magic, peril, and heart in just the right balance. The plot unfolds gracefully, and by the finale I was fully invested. The twists, emotional beats, and the protagonist’s development all land beautifully — highly recommended.

Great read. Easy to get into and easy to connect with the conflict. Slow-burn steamy magic goodness.
