Hill House is alive. And it wants him on his knees.
It was supposed to be a dare. Spend one night in the abandoned house and prove Eli wasn’t afraid.
But the house isn’t empty. The walls breathe. The mirrors whisper. A man in a mask waits in the dark, moving like he owns the rooms, speaking like Eli was meant to kneel.
Every command burns hotter. Every touch drags him deeper. He came here a virgin, but he won’t leave untouched.
The house doesn’t want a guest. It wants a confession. And the man in the mask will take it.
Halloween Room 13 is an MM novella of haunted rooms, whispered confessions, and a virgin who learns what it means to kneel in the dark.
1⭐️ Interesting idea; weak execution. This tries to be mysterious but just ends up dragging with repetitive phrasing and way too much unnecessary buildup. The story, a guy who has to last ten minutes in a haunted house after losing a bet and ends up being seduced by a ghost, could have been intriguing, but it never really lands. This is erotica, not romance (which is fine), but it just falls flat of what could’ve been a decent little story.
“They say a man lived here who never took his mask off. Some say he was an actor, some say he was burned. All say he liked watching fear. Thirteen people went in after him. Not one came back. Thirteen scratches on the banister. Thirteen voices in the walls. A number that doesn’t stop.”
'Nico raises the beam like an oath. “You go in. Up the stairs. Ten minutes on the clock. Bring something back. Wood, nail, ribbon, whatever the house lets you steal. But the real prize is the thirteen. Find it, you’re a legend.”'
The story starts out interesting and creepy as Eli loses a game with his "friends," and now has to go into the haunted, abandoned house, stay for ten minutes and then leave- bringing something back as proof. He's very uncomfortable and you can sense right away these guys aren't really friends; he's just trying to fit in and they'll spread rumors if he chickens out.
I liked the dynamic between Vey and Eli, and the way their chemistry is built up. I did get distracted by the repetition of certain lines and actions. Like Eli asking Vey his name twice and the book could use another round of editing.
The story overall felt dark- both detailed and vague at the same time. An interesting read. A part of me likes the ending, and a part of me wants his return. Eli is clearly changed from the beginning of the book, and I liked the strong feeling of that- noticeable even by his friends.
This is the first story I've read by this author. 3 stars
It just felt very repetitive, there were a lot of phrases that were used VERY OFTEN. And a lot was built up to basically nothing. When I was about halfway through, I got the feeling that the story was just being dragged out to have more pages or something.
I actually really liked the ending, I just would have liked to see them take off the mask somehow. I understand that it adds to the mystery and the scary side of the book, but personally I would have liked to know if that guy was handsome or not, lol.
Eli needs to find better friends! Because these are jerks.
Overall, I would recommend this book if you're just looking for a short book that doesn't require a lot of thinking.

I found this to be a haunting, dark and almost strange kind of read. It's not something that can be glossed over, half read or read quickly. You need quiet, no interruptions and to take your time to devour each word. It's certainly something suited to read at Halloween. All I can really say is Eli leaves the house different to when he entered.

The first three chapters I was hooked with an in depth ghost story, the horror was palpable and I couldn’t not imagine the house, the walls, the sounds… but then everything was repeated, over explained, too much and off putting. Each sentence ran away with itself almost to the point of a DNF, I couldn’t handle it but persevered and left deflated 😔
im not really sure if ALL the describing details, and i mean, literally, SO much detail was supposed to make this seem more scary or whatever, but it was not working for me. I couldn't get into and then stay in the plot because of all of it.
I was selected as an arc reader and i rated it 3 stars because it was alright but it was very repetitive in certain areas and very short so you didn’t get to see much.
