If you want a fully fleshed out series, skip this one. 👎🏾
I’m not gunna lie, the author got me good. The first book convinced me this series was gunna be loads of fun. But, lo and behold, it ended up reeking of a good idea that dwindled into “I’m tired of writing this story because I probably have another idea or something so let’s wrap this up quick”.
**semi-spoilers ahead**
I’ll keep this brief. Having a good idea doesn’t make up for not being capable of fully fleshing out a plot or characters. I’m also convinced Author doesn’t actually know what happens when a man…reaches completion. Some of the spicy 🌶️ scenes were giving “I’ve never had 💦 on my 🍈 🍈 before” and it deeply shows. Not to mention, it was also giving “I came up with the plot as I went and didn’t prepare in the least or go back and check what I’d already written as I moved forward”. There was a whole section where a character who was stalking our FMC to prove that she was up to no good “revealed” that a certain character was his sister as if she didn’t already know that from the moment that character (the stalker) was introduced. It was super bizarre. She was like “why didn’t you tell me so-and-so was your sister?” and I literally had to go back to the second book to make sure I wasn’t crazy and, yup, she super duper already knew. I mean, it was literally brought up in a class full of people. There were plot holes galore and the most EGREGIOUS thing Author did was set up a chapter to describe a clandestine meeting between our main characters and others on campus hiding their true natures and then SKIPPED WRITING THE WHOLE MEETING. Literally, Author ended one chapter with “tomorrow’s the meeting, let’s do this” to the next chapter starting after the meeting without describing what happened??? That’s when I realized Author was just trying to wrap up this series without trying. Don’t even get me started on half-assed character development and motivations. It’s like whole sections of this story and descriptions of people and their reasons for doing things were missing. Why on earth would our stalker character try to publicly expose our FMC then turn around and be like, jk I actually need you for revenge, let’s not talk about how I was trying to get the council to snatch you up lol haha whatever. It’s as if Author was like, “actually I like this direction for this character better” but didn’t go back and change what she’d already written about the character to make sense for the new direction. It’s so stupid and disappointing that I highly recommend not reading this series at all. Unfortunately, if you’re here, your time has already been wasted so my condolences.
I liked the idea and overall buuuuut for the whole series, it felt like there were jumps in the plot. And also some confusion as to which character developments were specific to one character but now associated with another like it was that way all along. And we learned about a character in one book, her relationship to another character in the second book, and then in the third book we are supposed to be surprised when the FMC “figures out” how the two characters are related bc…AGAIN? We covered this in the previous book?!
I skipped a lot of books 2 and 3. If you're like me, you hung in there to see the damn mate bond completed. And was a long and brutal road. The author refused to just let the characters live. At the start of this book the h (Rae) continues the trend of being kidnapped by a new (unnecessary) harem member (Silas), and leaving her loyal bond mates behind, worried and confused for the promise of new D. She also continues her second favourite trend of hiding her light under a bushel, as the saying goes—because no one can know she's uber powerful 🙄.
Even after the bond is finally sealed we have to suffer through all the whining about how—the now mated 7 person bond group—can never publicly be together. Many able allies are drained while attempting to glamour the h’s (illegal) dayglo mating marks. Even more good samaritans pass out because it's difficult to hide Rae's immense power from the council. Question: with all that power why was the arbitrary decision made for the new bond to ‘come out’ as the biggest harem in history, at the Christmas Ball? Surely they could have kicked ass any day of the week. More stupid stalling. Meanwhile, we, the readers are left wondering why the big scary council has yet to show any practical power. Threats are not power. It's just bizarre.
And yes there’s a MAJOR mistake in this book. The author forgets her own plot:
This whole book was melodramatic and cringe and painfully stupid. All the drama that should have filled book 2 and 3, was stuffed into the last 45min. And romance? What romance?
The story has potential, but lots of inconsistencies
Potential spoilers!!!!
I've read the first three in the series. There were some editing issues with more in each consecutive book. There were errors in things like names. Cora's third mate had a different name in the second book than in the third. It was just stated that Sebastian was Sophia's brother at the beginning but it was the first time he'd ever appeared in the books. Then later in the series, Rae acted all surprised that Sebastian was Sophia's brother. It just didn't line up. There were things that were never explained...like how parents were getting on campus for secret meetings. Those are just some of the inconsistencies that I noticed. The number of times that some minor variation of the phrase "Everything about our situation is dangerous" appeared was way too high. I will say that there was a very interesting amount of info about psychology included, making me feel like the author may have background there. The story had potential but it just didn't nail execution. The main characters didn't have enough depth for me either.
⭐️☆☆☆☆ (1.5 stars) – Wanted to Love It, but It Fell Apart Fast
Frosthaven Academy started off as a quick, fast-paced read that seemed like it could grow into something fun, but it just never delivered. The moment the headmaster drama kicked in at Book 1, the plot stopped making sense, and everything spiraled from there.
The FMC and her mates never develop - if anything, they get worse. The guys are all basically trash, and the relationships feel shallow, rushed, and repetitive. I kept waiting for some growth or emotional depth, but it never came.
The story really needed more fleshing out and a lot more thought behind the worldbuilding and character arcs. Instead, it felt like a draft of a much better book that never got the revision it needed.
Honestly, I was especially disappointed because I wanted a compelling age-gap romance woven into a shifter academy setting - but this didn’t come close. A promising idea that ultimately went nowhere.
Rae’s story was about overcoming the obstacles others have set in front of you for justice and peace.
And Rae fights for that in this series along with her six mates. They face challenges by the Council, who try to deter them from keeping their bonds.
And in this book we see her finally step up and take down the Council and start the work of healing those with severed bonds. She brings a peace to the world after defeating the Council, which is exactly what these wolves needed.
I wished I could’ve gotten more of a glimpse into their future but I was happy they finally got that happy ending they so deserved.
The first one was decent a good read the last two lacked character building story development. There were facts that would change like Sebastian’s sister. We already knew about and book 2 the book It was like a secret being revealed that we already knew about.. we didn’t get to sit in any of the secret meetings. I feel like the book focused more on their worry. And on top of that, I didn’t really feel like there’s any threat from the council. There was no fear behind them. They had done really nothing.
Overall I give this series 4 stars. It needs a lot of work in the end. This could have been a really cool story that was filled with so much world building and character growth but were given a hallmark wrap up. Its fine. Don't be surprised by things contradicting each other or feeling like it doesn't make sense. This one was a mess which sucks because again this could have been amazing. Sigh.
There were a lot of inconsistencies in the plot. There were multiple points where characters forgot things they should have known or knew things that they were never told.
The worst was Sebastian and his sister. We knew who his sister was in book 1 but it was treated as some huge revelation in this book.
There were definitely some good parts of this series but there were too many flaws to really enjoy it. It felt rushed and there were a decent amount of typos as well.
This book was disjointed and lacked flow. Each chapter jumped to a completely different part of the story, making it difficult to follow. The writing style was bland and lacked creativity, relying on a checklist for plot points (especially during spice). The characters were underdeveloped and lacked any depth.
Too rushed, typos, not enough time wrapping things up and yet had a solution to everything. I won’t reading any more from this author. She doesn’t give enough time for bonding to each individual instead go straight to group scenes when FMC has 0 experience. It was too little and yet too much all at the same time. 😬
I adored raes story, especially how she learned to accept who she was and how to deal with grief in a healthy way. I loved how there was very little sex and actual story!
So many why choose stories have pages and pages of sex scenes, this proves with great writing it’s not needed.
This was a good series. It isn’t a dark story but it has some bad characters. It was a real change from what I had been reading. Good for people that want something different for a change
I really enjoyed the world building. This idea of controlled packs and hidden resistance. The pack dynamics were really thought out. I think my favorite was Silas. I just wanted to give the poor guy a long hug. Interested in seeing what happens next
This story was not really for me. I found it slow and the plot was meh. I just couldn’t get into the characters and the fact that there wasn’t much substance to the story.
I really enjoyed this story, but there were inconsistencies in the plot that were frustrating. Also several grammatical errors. Better proofreading is needed.
This was a great conclusion to this series. I loved the action and how her mates stood by her side. I thought the part Sebastian played was priceless. So happy with the way it ended.
Had to put down and not finish even though I was very interested in the series. The plot holes were just too much for me to move past. It became confusing and hard to follow.
This installment is cheesy, dorky and eye rolling. There are Predictable happy endings all around. This ebook edition had several sections that repeated.
