This is an ARC and I do appreciate the author for giving me this opportunity!
———-

Chains of Fate & Fury delves into themes of duty, sacrifice, and the consequences of power. In this second installment, we follow Serena, a dragon rider torn between loyalty, love, and the heavy weight of destiny. Her bond with Furi symbolizes strength and connection, while her relationships with Zadyn and Jace grow increasingly complex.

Although the story maintains the same epic and emotional tone as the first book, I have to admit it was harder for me to connect this time. I’m not sure when I started feeling disconnected, but I honestly expected Jace to remain the main love interest —based on how everything unfolded in the first book. There was more tension and controversy between them, which made it feel spicier! Also, the way his engagement situation was resolved left a lot to be desired. And the introduction of a third love interest (Kylian, the villain turned mate) didn’t fully convince me.

Still, the book beautifully explores themes of sacrifice, friendship, and the search for identity. Marina Laurendi’s writing remains intense and visual, and the ending makes it clear that Serena’s destiny is written in fire and fury… even when her heart doesn’t know how to divide itself.

Another knockout from Marina! Not only was book #2 longer and dived further into the world of Solterre, it brought even more action and lust and yearning- it had everything I loved in a romantasy! But like, make it modern. ✨

Reading this series has truly been a thrilling adventure and has so many aspects of many romantasy series that I love; Fourth Wing, TOG, ACOTAR, etc. Basically Marina took everything I love from those and put her own spin of magic on it, and threw it into this series.

I love the writing in this series, and I really enjoyed our FMC’s hilarious wit and all the banter between her and the MMC’s. Something I was impressed with was our author’s ability to give us multiple love interests and make us fall for each one of them, and make us question the direction of the plot in the best way. I really didn’t know how she would wrap up the ending of this book, and I was pleasantly surprised with the plot twists. Also, the character development for every single character in this book? Chef’s kiss. (I’ll add that the spice level in this one was also 👩🏼‍🍳💋).

I’m REALLY crossing my fingers for more books in this series! It’s just so FUN. ❤️

Thank you, Marina, for the ARC opportunity! I thoroughly enjoyed these and I’m excited for the rest of the world to have a chance to read this series!

I was fortunate enough to read this book early on and the worst part about that was having to wait longer for book 3. Some books lose their steam in the sequel and this is not one of them!

This book took me on such an emotional journey and was an amazing sequel. I loved the different POVs and the growth from all of the characters. The characters make such morally gray decisions in a way that seems very real and human and makes me empathize with them (and sometimes made me want to yell at them which just tells me how realistically written they are). There were times when I wanted to throw the book because of my tears. I appreciated the plot twists and cannot wait until book 3. Im still amazed how this is the one book series where I’m legitimately confused at which love interest I want the FMC to end up with! I also love how there is so much story and plot and the focus isn’t just on romance (though this book does get spicy!) I’m eager to read more from Marina Laurendi!

So I’m really upset and disappointed in this because I actually genuinely enjoyed the first book. The first 50% of this book was fine until Zayden and Serena keep trying to either have a deep conversation or express their emotions or have some type of physical contact and it gets interrupted every time. Now that happens in every book once or twice to you know, keep the yearning up, but this literally had to have happened over 10 times and include her and Jace getting interrupted as well. So now I’m starting to get pissed off. This book could’ve been far shorter by like 100 pages without wasting all of this time on nonsense.

I did not like when they locked her away after she had been kidnapped and locked away by Kylian. She was traumatized. Zayden shifts into kyllian during this time to convince the army to turn around and then he goes to free Serena from the tower. He doesn’t think to shift back before opening the door? She stabbed him dead in the heart thinking it was Kylian and he actually dies. I could not believe my eyes. I could not believe what I just read. She’s losing her shit because well, her mate.

Then they take his dead body, mind you this is HOURS of an adventure that this man has been dead and strapped to Furi, to Meredith‘s old witch coven to try to perform necromancy but can’t just rush his body and when they get there. No first Meredith has to be kidnapped and tried on a trial in front of her grandma because she was never supposed to come back, she brought outsiders and she’s been using magic she was supposed to have. Zaydens‘s body is just laying on top of Furi on the beach rotting this whole time.

Grandma, after taking Meredith’s magic away, helps perform the ritual that brings Zayden back to life. He went from gray and cold and rotting to suddenly alive? They said he wouldn’t be able to walk for a few days and that they needed to use the salve but the second they wanted to fuck his legs were fine? It was just very off-putting.

When they get back Kyllian comes back for her because it’s the end of the two weeks. I want to know why they would wait for the coronation for the actual 14th day when he’s going to show up because of course they didn’t get to finish the coronation.

Instead of fighting off Kyllian or just finally accepting her fate and going with him and trying to figure out what’s going on, Serena runs away from him and hides. Not so bad ass.

Now I’ve known Zayden was her mate for a while, and apparently her “primary” which was never discussed. The audience is still blind as to what that is. Zayden has been aware of this prophecy that her mother figure gave her. She told him all the details and he seemed totally fine about it which is INSANE when come to find out, Kyllian is also her mate. 😐 But wait..JACE IS ALSO HER MATE. 😐 And she lies to him about it when he clearly feels it and is losing his shit over it. I’m really disappointed that this is a “why choose” and I wish it had been stated obviously. I wish we didn’t go 75% into the second book without even officially figuring out who a mate was.

I loved book one so much and had been eagerly waiting a whole year for this sequel — so I was really excited to dive back in. Chains of Fate and Fury picks up with Serena after she’s been captured by Killian, the evil king, and adds Jace and Zayden’s perspectives this time around, which definitely helped flesh out the world and the stakes.

I especially loved that this book leaned more into Zayden and Serena’s romance — I’ve shipped them since the start and was thrilled to finally see more page time between them. That said, I felt like Jace’s character shifted a lot from the first book. He’s always been a bit of a hothead, but his anger in this installment often ended up being directed at Serena — a character who’s been through brutal torture and neglect — and it made it harder for me to empathize with him.

Zayden also made choices that frustrated me, especially his tendency to sleep around whenever he was upset with Serena, then get mad when she didn’t understand what was happening. I just couldn’t root for anyone’s behavior at times — they’re all a little toxic, honestly.

Plot-wise, there’s a lot happening: Serena’s torture and rescue, political maneuvering, assembling armies, and the looming war against Killian. While I love these characters and this world, I think the story could’ve used a bit more focus and a tighter edit — maybe even 100–200 pages shorter — to let the emotional beats really land.

The ending twist with Killian being Serena’s mate was wild and definitely has me curious for book three. I’m actually hoping we get more of his perspective next time because I find his brand of evil fascinating — how he justifies his cruelty while still believing he’s right.

Overall, I still enjoyed returning to this world, but the pacing, character inconsistency, and sheer volume of plot threads kept it from hitting as hard as the first one for me. Here’s hoping book three finds that balance again!

Okay, okay, okayyyyyyy! Let me start by saying thank you to Marina for letting me ARC read this and she’s been having to deal with my non stop messaging her about this book 😂

If I could rate this 20 stars I think I would. I am a HUGE fantasy reader so please remeber that when you’re going to read this.
If you are into Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses. Fourth Wing, Powerless then you WILL love this.

✨Witches
✨ MATED bondS
✨Found Family
✨3 POVs
✨A PLAYLIST TO GO ALONG WITH THE BOOK

Serena is our sassy, stubborn FMC who cares about her “family” more than anything and will do anything and everything to save them from the horrors in the world.
Jace is one of our MMCs who is stubborn, fearless and will tear the world apart for Serena and ONLY Serena.
Zadyn is our MMC who is Serena’s familiar but also her primary and just the sweetest except sometimes he self destructs to avoid conflict(also will tear apart the world for Serena)
Thennnnn we have Kylian, our King of Vod MMC who is the cruel leader, the bad boy, tougher than nails with a sweet sweet spot for Serena and only Serena if you’re getting my trend here 😉

I enjoyed reading how Serena truly stepped into her power in this book, learning you’re the last Blackbood which left isn’t for the faint of heart. In this book it was truly about her stepping up and growing and learning and knowing what was best for her but also the people around her and it was not without stumble.

I can’t give too much away without ruining the book for you so for the love of everything good, GO READ THIS BOOK WHEN ITS OUT !!!!

She did it again! I haven't been on this level drawn into a world since I read fourth wing. This has consumed me in all the best ways.

I will do my very best to keep this vague and spoiler free, cause that makes it even better when you're gonna read the book! We follow Serena from book one, and her journey is far from over. The character development continues along with the adventures - both the wanted and unwanted, in the world and in love. Cause this series definitely takes a step out from the thinking box when it comes to love interest. Usually when I arc read, I write down the fmc and mmc names. I this case I have written down six different possibilities 😂 I absolutely love how many twists and turns this book has, and some of them have kept me up late into the night, where I just HAVE to know how it will go.

The really nice thing with love options is that you as a reader also get to choose who you like best. And I have absolutely fallen for Zadyn. He's definitely added to my newest book boyfriend collection. Everything about Zadyn is 👌🥵🫶. The spice in book two is also taken up a notch from book one, but the yearning is also still there.

And the way Marina is able to make me question who the villain really is in the story, and how that makes me think and try to solve it, sometimes without all the pieces to the puzzle is something I also absolutely love.

If you loved fourth wing, you'll love this series! I cannot wait to read the next book!

I received this as an ARC and this is my honest review.

Serena Avery’s life forever changed when she stepped into a new world and discovered the truth about who she is. You're drawn into a world that won't let you go. You get to know the characters better as the book progresses. Marina's writing style is fluid, making it easy to read. The way she describes everything makes you imagine what everything and everyone looks like.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'll definitely read it again, as I still have to read the first book. But what a beautiful romance! You're captivated from beginning to end. I'm already looking forward to book 3.

Chains of Fate & Fury grabbed me from the very first chapter and did not let go. Marina Laurendi delivers a dark, addictive fantasy romance filled with weapons-grade tension, fierce destiny threads, and a slow-burn connection that feels like it might swallow the characters whole.

The worldbuilding is rich and immersive without ever dragging—every prophecy, every betrayal, every whispered truth feels carefully placed and emotionally loaded. The stakes are high, the magic is intoxicating, and the danger stays sharp enough to keep you turning pages long past when you planned to sleep.

But the heart of this book is the chemistry. The push and pull between the leads is electric, full of tension, fury, longing, and the kind of fate-twisted bond that makes you want to scream into a pillow. Their dynamic is messy, powerful, and impossible to look away from.

And the plot? Twists on twists. Just when you think you’ve found your footing, Laurendi yanks the rug out in the best way possible. The ending left me wide-eyed, already desperate for the next book.

If you love:
✨ Dark fantasy romance
✨ Fate-bound pairs
✨ Slow burn tension that could melt steel
✨ High stakes + emotional devastation
✨ Magic, vengeance, curses & prophecy

…then this one needs to be on your TBR immediately.

Marina Laurendi absolutely delivered.

It may or may not be 5 stars for you.

What may be 5 stars:
Bad Ass Female Lead ✅
Morally Gray Men ✅
Super slow burn ✅
Large story - her plot be thickening - I wished I had read the first to have more context but honestly it alluded to things enough and so much developed idk if I would like it as much as I liked this one. I'm EAGER for #3

What may not be 5 stars:
A lot of references that make sense to a specific group of readers. I enjoyed the humor of it but it may not be for everyone
There were some dark themes - it could be triggering for some
Some of the pacing or emotions felt off....There are things I didn't love about the writing throughout the book that I think could have been more sorted through Beta reading/editing where I felt the characters were... less aligned with themselves?
Some of the elements in the language/slang/voice - that make sense since she's a modern gal in a magical world - make me cringe but I almost felt like that was part of the charm

Overall, I enjoyed it and found myself eager to keep reading and would love to read more of this story

📖 ARC Review 📖

This sequel takes everything I loved in Heir of Blood and Fire and turns the intensity up in every direction. Serena’s power, her rage, her vulnerability, and the weight of her lineage all collide in a way that feels bigger and darker and so much more emotional. The world building expands beautifully and the stakes feel razor sharp. Being trapped under the control of a siren king who looks like a dream but moves like a nightmare made every page feel tense in the best way.

I loved how this book leans into fated mates energy while still exploring forbidden longing and complicated loyalties. The relationships are messy and magnetic and the multiple POVs give so much depth to the heartbreak building underneath the plot. You can feel the characters burning for each other and for freedom.

Serena’s arc is fierce and painful and full of sacrifice. The way this book balances action, desire, and emotional unraveling kept me glued to the pages. If you love dragons, dark magic, morally gray men, and heroines who refuse to break, this installment delivers.

What do I do to cure a Brimstone hangover? I reach for Chains of Fate and Fury and ask for a double heaped spoonful of “please ma’am, may I have some more?” I thought the cliffhanger at the end of Heir of Blood and Fire (book 1) was bad but that was like a tiny little elementary schoolyard spat compared to the Game of Thrones throw down that this left me with! 🫠 *insert nail-biting* So many unexpected twists and turns. I gasped out loud many times and loved every minute of it. The snarky dragon 🐉, the banter, the 3 POVs, the protective MMCs, the fated mates, the jealousy 👿, the political intrigue, the pop culture references, the complicated family & found family dynamics, and let’s not forget the spice 🌶️. This has it all - everything you could possibly want in an epic romantasy, and easily a 5-⭐️ read for me! Marina’s writing gets better and better & I am here for the ride! So very thankful to Marina for the opportunity to review this e-ARC. (I immediately bought a trophy copy on release day!!) I received a gifted advance review copy for free and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

First thank you again for allowing me to be an ARC reader Marina. I loved the first book and I feel the same about the 2nd.

I don’t want to spoil this series for you, but I will say if you like super detailed smutty scenes this may not hit the mark for you, but if you love tension, slow burn, multiple POVs, plot that keeps twisting and 🥵 moments. Go ahead grab yourself a copy of this book series and enjoy diving into this world.

The playlists for this series always helps me picture the scenes better. I always consider that a bonus in books, especially when I’m told when to play the song. The little marks can get past you sometimes so watch out for that (if you are actually listening as you go).

I can’t wait to see where this story goes after the mind boggling events that took place in book two, but I will be patiently waiting so that she can work her magic on pulling me back in all over again.

This was an official ARC read for me as book 2 of the black blooded series.
Loved the first book! The second book picked right up where book 1 left off, which I loved. No crazy flashbacks or lost timelines. Multiple POV’s in this book as well and catching up on their perspectives of the current strife.
Our FMC is growing in her powers and her feels. Our girl is traumatized and unfortunately seems to inherit more in this book. To say that she is a force to be reckoned with, magically and just as herself, is an understatement.
I was starting to get a little worn out on the love triangle drama. If you like a Xaden vs Dain conflict, you will get it here in SPADES!

📚 ARC READER 📚

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I could not put this down as I was thrown so deeply into their universe. Watching Serena embrace her power, her title, her bloodline was AMAZING. Dragon riding?! HECK YES!

I will admit there were times where the love triangle, or the miscommunications between the main love interests did bother me a little, but it was a very minor thing that didn't make me love the book any less!

This badass FMC will have you head over heels with the series! I highly recommend you read this series, you won't regret it!

The added POV...holyyyyyyyyyy. THANK YOU.

Thank you Marina for this opportunity 🩷 appreciate it always.

First of all I’m going to preface this by saying I LOVED book 1 and this review makes me so sad.

I was so excited for this book. I couldn’t wait to see how Serena was going to overcome being kidnapped and Jaces betrothal and laugh at her witty banter along the way.

However, I genuinely cannot stand a book with a love square where she loves them all and spends most of the book deliberating which one to choose when the entire world is in peril?! Girl priorities please 😭

Also the fated mate being a toxic pair?! Don’t love that. The entire point of a fated mate, regardless of whether there is 3 of them, is that they’re meant to be the perfect match.

The female characters are all top tier. Loved the Pirate King. Loved Mar. I might pick up book 3. I am currently undecided.

Thank you to Marina Laurendi for the opportunity to read this arc. This is my honest opinion.

This is book two of the Blackblooded series. If you haven't read Heir of Blood & Fire, go read that first.

Chains of Fate & Fury picks up right where Heir of Blood & Fire left off. Serena Avery, the last blackblood witch, is being held captive by Kylian Triori, the king of Vod. During her time in captivity, he offers her a choice: marry him or face a war that will possibly end the lives of everyone she cares about.

This book is truly a while ride. It's 600+ pages of constant action and drama. It's told from the perspectives of Serena, Zayden, and Jace to give the full scope of what's going on. It's really just one plot twist after another. Despite the fact that there were several broken hearts along the way, I had so much fun reading this book. It was a blast to get to experience Serena come into her power even more.

After the way this book ended, I can't wait for the third book!

Marina Laurendi’s Chains of Fate and Fury is an electrifying dive into a richly mythic world, delivering exactly the high-stakes, character-driven fantasy the title promises. From the opening scene, Laurendi masterfully builds a tapestry of ancient prophecies and visceral conflicts that kept me hooked. The pacing is relentless, the world-building is intricate without being overwhelming, and the prose is consistently engaging.
I especially loved the central protagonist, whose grit and emotional complexity ground the epic scope of the narrative. Her relationships—both with her allies and her formidable enemies—are layered and intensely felt. This is a story about finding inner strength when destiny feels inescapable, and I truly adored the journey.

Chains of Fate & Fury by Marina Laurendi 🤯 OMG! This book had me on one of the biggest book emotional roller coasters ever! This book took me from laughing, crying to just action pack excitement waiting to see what happens next! There are turns you don’t see coming and it keeps you guessing the whole way through! I absolutely love the story and the romance the builds between Serena and her Mate… or? Definitely don’t want to spoil all the twists and turns! If you love Romantasy then this is a must read. If you haven’t read book one Heir of Blood & Fire it’s ok kindle unlimited and you must read it first! You won’t be disappointed in this series. Cannot wait to see what the next book brings and how the story continues.

Wow, book 2 is action packed! The story continues right where things left off and we follow the crew on many treacherous adventures across their realm. Although a lot of these parts were entertaining, I don’t think they always added to the plot and on occasion felt a little filler-ish.

The FMC annoyed the shit out of me at times, and then other times she was super relatable. Girl just needs a nap and to maybe listen to others.

Definitely a fun addition to the series with twists and turns to keep you guessing and we all love a sassy dragon 🐉💕

Thank you to the author for sharing the eARC with me, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book has amazing pacing, the growth that Serena has in book 2 is incredible, learning to accept her role and beginning to step into it. It is action packed, between the mischief the crew gets into, the fights, the emotions, the love, it will keep you drawn in the entire time. I continued to have to pick my jaw up off the floor, whether it was because of a swoony line or the chaos that was becoming Serena’s life. I love the love triangle (square?) and who can be mad at a pining man (or 2). The I am so grateful that I was given the chance to read this early and will continue to recommend this book!

🪞WHY CHOOSE

So, I love why choose way better then love triangle so this 2nd installment was right up my alley. I’m not upset about it at all.

Book 2 led off right where book 1 ended, no weird what happened and not finding out till a few chapters in.
This book gives us some twist and definitely some turns. It still gives BadA FMC. It also gives a whole lot of 🪞touch her and 💀.

I did find that at times the miscommunication or lack of communication between the love interest annoyed me. But, not enough that I stopped devouring this book.

I loved how this book has multiple POVs that helps you understand the depth of each characters feelings and their development. A powerful FMC as well as multiple MMCs (yes please), just the right amount of spice, and not to mention dragons! I just really like dragons. I will not give away too much about the book only that I was very surprised by the plot twist ending, not in a bad way either.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this story and could not be more thankful to Marina for creating this magical world. I'm so sad I didn't experience the first book, definitely going to go buy that now! However I'm over the moon I was able to be part of this ARC team and looking forward to the next book!

Where do I even start? Chains of Fate & Fury was action packed with so many unexpected turns! Serena continues to be the most relatable FMC I've ever read with statements like "Ah, decisiveness. My one true enemy." Haven't we all been there?!
I absolutely loved how Serena is finally choosing to listen to herself and embrace others in her found family. This book is top tier and such an easy and amazing continuation from book 1. Now, I need book 3!!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to read this stellar book as an arc!

Thank you to Marina for letting me read this as ARC.
It's been about a year since I read the first book so have been waiting for this one 😊Picked up exactly where the first ended so didn't feel like I had to reread the first to get the hang of this one.
A real slowburn with (in my opinion) minimum spice and more action.
I laughed, cried, was angry and then some.
Almost drove me crazy over what Margot said.. and the twists of their fates.. the secrets they keep from each other..
Hoping for the start of book 3 SOON 🥰

Read book one and love love loved it and started book 2. I loved the fact that you jump right back into the story and to me I love it more than book 1.

The action, the romance, and the story was amazing!! I’m usually not a fan of love triangles, but this one was very well written.

ARC read -

I enjoyed this book as the second in the series.

The tension and the bonds and relationships through the book make it a great read!

Sometimes the characters differed from the first book, with personalities changing and decisions being made that you wouldn’t have expected after reading the first book.

The ending was great and the plot twist really makes us excited for the next book to see how the story continues in another direction.

‼️ Thank you to the author for allowing me to read it early, I am voluntarily leaving an honest review

Fantasy epic with a delicious side of slow burn.
I am in love with this series! This book follows more fantastic plot and character development, does not shy away from heartbreak, and is a rollercoaster of emotions!
Serena grows into her power as a dragon rider and we see her coming to terms with some of her grief with the support she has always needed but not had to this point.
The plot twists will give you whiplash and I am going to be waiting very impatiently for book 3 as I’m desperate to see where this goes.
