I thought I was done with the Villanelle series, but I was wrong. I quite like this tamer version of Oxana, but she is still savage, which gives me no end of pleasure. I think I will be with this series until the end, each volume short, quick, and not overly drawn out, making this the perfect time out.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this novel.

"You take niceness for granted, because you've always been surrounded by it."

This was good. A change of pace from the previous books. A welcome one.

The story is simple enough. Even if you can guess some twists from the start, the execution is good. Eve gets to shine. Oxana gets some character development.

The plot is, like I said, simple. That's not to say it's bad. Far from it. This is probably the one I've enjoyed the most. Eve and Oxana decide to go freelance with Johnny, amicably parting ways with Twelve (though, not really, they still work for them) and their first assignment comes from none other than Balice. They have to find a stolen horse, a favourite of Shirin, who is the daughter of Majid Ismailov, a rich and powerful man from a fictional country 'Naziristan', with whom Britain has, sort of, friendly relations for obvious reasons. Majid also has a son, Farad, whose chapters felt like watching Inherent Vice. A fever dream of drugs and booze and sex. From the start, the story goes in a certain direction, making you think of one person as a certain culprit but that's just too obvious. Still, it's a solid plot, I think.

Characters are, expectedly, anchored by Eve and Oxana. The first chapter has all the trademark violence of Villanelle and the subsequent chapters give her more depth. Eve gets to shine towards the end of the story. Of the new characters, Shirin is probably the best one. All the secondary characters (Gladstone, Josh, Joe) were pretty good too.

It's short (220+ pages). Short chapters (like the previous book). Easy to read. If you love the series (whether it's the books or the TV series (which I haven't seen)), you should definitely check it out.

Recommended. 👍

“All these battle scars, my love… You’re running out of lives.”

As a fan of Killing Eve (both the books and the tv show) I was so excited to read the new release in this series.

Long Shot opens with Eve and Oxana deciding to break ties with The Twelve in favour of going freelance. Their first job involves a stolen racehorse, a random, and a family that holds many a secret.

For fans of Killing Eve, this novel does not disappoint. It houses the complex relationship between the pair as well as their jostlings of who they each are at the core; and of course a mystery to be unpicked that leaves you guessing at each turn. The research and care taken with this book is evident and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Killing Eve: Long Shot is released on the 1st November 2025

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

“Killing Eve: Long Shot” is a taut, stylish read that deepens the psychological stakes while delivering Jennings’ signature flair for obsession and betrayal. It’s a satisfying entry to the Eve-Villanelle saga. I love Eve and Oxana's relationship, I was introduced to the books from the TV series (which I fas a major fan of) but the books are even better! This book marks a new chapter of their lives as they open their own agency.

🕵️‍♀️ Luke Jennings’ Killing Eve: Long Shot (2025) marks the fifth installment in the series that inspired the BAFTA-winning television phenomenon. Picking up after the globe-trotting chaos of previous books, this entry finds Eve Polastri and Oxana (Villanelle) attempting a radical break from the Twelve, the shadowy organization that shaped their deadly dance. But freedom comes at a cost—and Jennings ensures that cost is steep, intimate, and morally ambiguous.

I especially appreciated that this episode revolved around the professional horse racing circuit, as I am a huge fan of the Dick and Felix Francis books on the same subject. This book was extremely well researched and informative (and addictively enjoyable).

💣 Jennings leans into psychological warfare, crafting a story that’s less about spycraft and more about emotional reckoning. Eve, once a civil servant, now fully inhabits her role as a rogue operative, while Oxana’s transformation from assassin to something more vulnerable—and more dangerous—adds layers to her mythos. The novel explores:

- Obsession and identity: How far can one go before becoming the thing they hunt?

- Power and autonomy: Can Eve and Oxana truly escape the systems that shaped them?

- Revenge and redemption: The line between justice and vengeance blurs with every choice.

Jennings’ prose remains lean and cinematic, with sharp dialogue and evocative settings—from Venetian alleyways to clandestine safehouses—that heighten the tension without sacrificing emotional depth.

🎭 The heart of Long Shot is the ever evolving and deepening relationship between Eve and Oxana. Their bond—equal parts toxic, tender, and terrifying—feels more intimate than ever. Jennings resists easy resolutions, instead offering a complex portrait of two women bound by fate, fury and mutually addiction, admiration and adoration.

Supporting characters, while less developed, serve as mirrors and foils, amplifying the central duo’s descent into moral ambiguity.

🧨 Killing Eve: Long Shot - fans of the series will appreciate its bold risks and emotional payoffs, while newcomers may find it a compelling, (albeit perhaps disorienting) entry point.

I hope the Killing Eve book series continues to develop, I am hopelessly addicted to these stories!

I was so happy that Boldwood Books, Netgalley, and Luke Jennings gave me the opportunity to read Killing Eve: Long Shot as an eArc in exchange for an honest review.

This time Oxana and Eve have decided that they will leave the Twelve and create an organization of their own as freelance and we follow their first job, a horse has been stolen and they have to discover who is behind it.

I have many feelings and opinions with this book. As I've said before, I was really happy when I got this eArc, so I feel a bit disappointed when I realised this wasn't gonna be as good as I was expecting. Firstly, I get that sometimes it is necessary to remember the reader some details from previous books of the saga, especially when those are important plot wise. But, is it necessary to repeat what we have been reading since book 1 when this is book 5 in a saga? We know about the Twelve, we know how Eve and Oxana met, we know overall what happened in book 4. And what bothers me the most is the lack of subtleness, there is no intention to integrate this information in the story, to camouflage their real purpose (remembering us of all this things), they just are there: a full paragraph of already known information in the first 15 pages, that completely throughs you off the reading.

Then we proceed to get a bit of the plot, Oxana doing things behind Eve's back and Eve knowing something is happening but ignoring it with the intention to save their relationships. How many books will we need to get a bit of character evolution with these two? They don't accept each other for what they are and have absolutely no intention to change their ways, which makes their relationship a super toxic one. They spend all the book trying to convince theirselves of the reasoning behind their actions.

Finally, the main plot, it was fine, there were not as many twists as the sinopsis would make us believe, and Jennings has a way of writing, with few descriptions and a lot of dialogue (even internal dialogue) that makes his books fast to read. That being said, all the action and explanation seem to happen in the last chapters, so even being a fast read, the beginning of the book feels much slower than the ending.

Overall, I had to fight a bit by pushing this reading forward. Unfortunately, there were many points where the story felt repetitive and throught me off the book.

Eve Polastri and Oxana Voronstova are two lesbians who share a partnership both at home and work. They love living and working in London but their work now takes them far away to Newmarket in Suffolk. Can the girls cope with living and working in the British countryside?...

‘We’ll need some new clothes,’ Oxana says. Shaw gives her the ghost of a smile. ‘Sorry. Nobody in the countryside wears new clothes.’

…Ho, ho, ho, there is some lovely humour within the pages of Killing Eve: Long Shot. This action thriller gets off to a dramatic start in London, making the reader think they have been dropped in at the deep end. The drama and tension continues as the two lesbians travel to Newmarket in their quest to solve the crime of a stolen horse. The plot is brilliant and very involved making this a very engaging and entertaining read. The writing is top quality with tonnes of suspense thrown in for good measure. I loved the dynamics shared between Eve and Oxana, they have a lovely chemistry together. I loved just how sexy and vibrant Oxana acts and talks, she is a bright spark that will brighten up anyone’s day. A nice touch was the use of italics for the reader to know, word for word, what each character was thinking.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Killing Eve: Long Shot. Although this is book 5 in this series, you do not need to have read the first 4 books OR watched the very popular, hit BBC drama series of Killing Eve. There is enough back story in this latest book for you to understand just where Eve and Oxana are coming from. Eve and Oxana are not quiet lesbians as Eve is an Ex-MI6 officer and Oxana an elite assassin.

I found Killing Eve: Long Shot to be an OUTSTANDING 5 star read which is an adventure that everyone can enjoy regardless of your sexuality.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher Boldwood Books for passing me an ARC on the understanding that I post a review.

The fifth book in the Killing Eve series finds Villanelle and Eve back in London, trying to make some semblance of a normal life together as a couple. But the opening scene displays Villanelle's continued inability to overcome her violent instincts as she swiftly disposes of a predatory man in a park at night as she's returning home from her book club. What will life with these two characters be like this time around?

The pair are living a life funded by the Twelve, the international syndicate that Villanelle has worked for since her youth and that Eve tried to bring down in her former role in MI6. But Eve wants to make a break from working for the Twelve and work independently as freelancers. Her plan involves relying on other people who have been associated with the syndicate in the past, people we have met in previous books in the series.

Villanelle and Eve are put in contact with a Central Asian oligarch who needs help to discreetly find his daughter's favorite racehorse that has been stolen. They travel to the countryside to his estate and are given a quick lesson in horse racing. They talk to various people involved in the horse business and begin to form the basis of their investigation.

The backdrop of the story is fun to learn about, and the characters involved are very interesting as well. The narrative flows quickly, and we are given insights into both Villanelle's and Eve's thoughts with passages from their perspectives. This installment is a great addition to the series and is certain to satisfy fans of these books.

Thank you to the publisher, the author, and NetGalley for providing a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

I was super excited when Luke Jennings brought Eve and Oxana out of hiding in Killing Eve: Resurrection. In some ways, a bit tamer than in the show and the books had a different ending, we see some of Villanelle come back in Long Shot. But we also see her worry about the effect it will have on Eve and a more human side to her emotions at times.

The mystery, not a huge mystery. I suspected the culprit pretty early but not the full reason why and the others behind it. But still a fun read with Eve and Oxana getting to the conclusion as they start on their first freelance job. Balice from Ressurection returns along with Bili and their rats from the last book. So there is some tension there.

But where this book got me was the character development. Eve knows when Oxana is lying to her, calls her out for keeping her Villanelle secrets. Oxana still hurts her but does feel bad when earlier books had her more pretending she cared or wanting to care.

I was also happy to see that while we spent a fair amount of time at the stables/horse races, it wasn't too heavy on the racing side for someone who has little interest in racing. A huge part of the mystery is why the thieves chose to steal one of the least expensive horses that will not be running in races over their star horse.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the advance copy for review.

Rating: 2.3/5

"Long Shot" is the fifth book in the series featuring trained assassin, Villanelle, and MI5/MI6 operative, Eve Polastri. For the uninitiated, these are the characters who were the basis for for the television series, "Killing Eve". In most cases, screen adaptations tend to be disappointing when compared with the original printed versions, but this is one of those rarer occasions when the reverse is true. Sadly, the characters in Luke Jennings' books lack the charismatic appeal that was brought to the television screen by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (showrunner), Jodie Comer (Villanelle) and Sandra Oh (Eve).

This latest addition to the series is a novella set in the world of thoroughbred horse racing. It is a passable enough read that keeps the audience entertained, though without ever being more than a quick, disposable read. If you are looking for something where the plot is easy to follow, with action that moves at a reasonable pace, this could be for you. However, if you are seeking clever plot twists and character development that is anything other than superficial, then you really need to look elsewhere.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.

I will always love Killing Eve and the characters in it but this one just didn't quite hit the spot for me.

The pacing felt a little off, with sections where I couldn't put the book down and others where I struggled a little to pick it up.

Long Shot follows Eve and Villanelle as they try freelancing from the Twelve. They are given an assignment to help locate and retrieve Budoor, a horse owned by a wealthy family from Naziristan, living in England. As they're investigating the theft, the plot thickens and all seems more sinister than it once appeared.

I had hoped the book would be a bit more action packed and dangerous (like the previous books) than it was. It felt like not as much as usual happened and I also hoped the actual races would've been a bigger part / location.

That being said, I loved watching Eve and Villanelle's characters and romance develop and the fast paced bits were really good. It was by no means a bad read, I just didn't enjoy it as much as the previous Killing Eve books.

I'm very excited for the next one!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.

Killing Eve #5

Determined to escape the iron shackles of The Twelve, Eve and Oxanna are trying something new. Something risky, even for them. They're going freelance. Their first client, sent their way by MI5, is Majid Ismailov. An international power player and important friend to Britain, Majid is also a passionate racehorse owner with his eye on the racing calendar's fiercely contended prize - The Prix de ARC de Triomphe, run annually in Paris. When one of Majid's prize fillies is stolen from his Newmarket stable, Eve and Oxana enter a world new to both of them. What first appears to be an amateurish ransom attempt is gradually revealed as something more sinister. A carefully plotted move in a superpower chess game.

Eve and Oxana are in London. Oxana still displays some of Villanella's violent streaks. I was already intrigued to see how their relationship would play out in this book. The plot is easy to follow. Filled with twists and great characters, this is a fantastic addition to the series.

A horse, Budoor, has been stolen. It belongs to Shirin Ismailov, daughter of Majid Ismailov a very powerful and important man and friend of Britain. Oxana (Villanelle) and Eve Polastri are sent to find the horse. When Oxana and Eve arrive they are very apprehensive and doubt everyone including the family. The ransom has been set in gold ingots. Oxana plans of catching the thief, the horse and returning the gold. But as usual everyone has their own agenda and fail to inform them both of what's really going on and what plans other characters has once the horse has been secured. Will Oxana figure out who is behind the theft and will she be able to help stop an attempted murder?

It is always a treat to read another Villanelle book. I enjoyed Balice and Bili and their rats. The blurb afterthoughts at the end of the chapter really added to the emotional part of the book. Reading about each of Oxana and Eve's fears opens the door for the readers to be more immersed in their relationship and personal thoughts. Overall another perfect Villanelle read.

I was thrilled to get an opportunity to read book 5 in the Killing Eve series and was looking forward to catching up with the thrills and scrapes that Oxana and Eve would be facing in this story.

Luke Jennings writing always has a cinematic feel to me, I'm instantly transported through his use of dialogue and setting into the action and this story was no exception. We find ourselves with the duo as they decide it's time they go freelance and start investigating the theft of Majid Ismailov, a businessman's horse, but as always nothing is quite what it seems.

Another page turning, thrill ride follows from the pounding horse hooves in the racing world of Newmarket and back into the bustling city of London as Eve and Oxana come to terms with the changes their working life is having on their relationship - the domestic squabbles over the dishwasher resonated deeply!

We meet a range of new characters to drive the narrative including Majid's children troubled Farad and loyal Shirin who are very distinct and who I either liked or loathed and who all help to build the tension as Eve and Oxana race (excuse the pun) to find out who stole the beloved horse and why, the outcome might affect everyone.

A brilliant, enjoyable read in the Killing Eve series

An advance copy of the newest Killing Eve book?! I am BLESSED. Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read and provide my honest review!

I think you all know by now how much of a Killing Eve/Luke Jennings fan I am and the latest book did not disappoint!

It follows Eve and Oxana (Villanelle) as they decide to go freelance and are thrown into a job involving a stolen racehorse and a rich family with many secrets.

Long Shot feels a bit slower pace wise compared to the others but it works well with the story.

I love the way this is written - it’s short, it’s tense and it captivates you from the start. I will forever read this series for as long as it’s around 😂

If you have any content triggers, I advise you to read any trigger warnings beforehand.

I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Killing Eve or loves a good spy thriller!

I give this book 4 stars!

A pacy and often shocking thriller. Eve and Oxana are going freelance. Their first client is the influential Majid Ismailov, a vital ally of Britain. As a racehorse owner, Majid has his sights set on one of the most prestigious prizes in the racing world—the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. When one of Majid's valuable fillies is stolen and Eve and Oxana's mission is to find the horse. What at first appeared to be ransom attempt turns out to be part of global power struggle..
Thankyou to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC. My review is voluntary.
This world is a fascinating blend of sophistication and violence, a paradox mirrored in Oxana's personality. Just like Eve, the reader is drawn to the intriguing contradiction of both this world and its main character.

After the last novel, I didn't expect another one, but it was quite a shock when I received this ARC. Although the plot was predictable, it was still entertaining, and the funniest part of it is reading Villanelle and Eve's inner thoughts. There's some complexity in their dynamic that's hilarious, witty, and endearing at the same time. What I would have liked to have happened but didn't happen is an evolution in their relationship. I feel that they are stuck at a point where they don't accept themselves as they are, and it becomes tiring. For some reason, I liked that this book has short, fast-paced chapters. Overall, I enjoyed it more for its main characters than for the supporting ones.

Killing Eve: Long Shot by Luke Jennings is the fifth book in the Killing Eve series and I have loved reading these books. I don't think the series in the television lives up to these books!
Killing Eve Long Shot was a fast paced book from start to finish with lots of twists and turns that will have you turning the pages to find out what happens next. The characters were Brilliant, but this book was darker and gritty that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.

These are books that are excellent but they have a better edge that the series, as you imagine the characters on the way they are described within these books, not the actors on the BBC series.

Long Shot is an unbelievable addition to the Killing Eve collection. I’ve loved every instalment in this series, and this one might be my favourite so far. The writing is sharp, stylish, and full of that clever, dark humour the series is known for.

What stood out most is how tense and fast-paced it feels — every chapter pulls you deeper in. It really gave me the same energy and intensity as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but in a more modern, twisty, and playful way.

I’m genuinely excited for the next part coming next year. If you enjoy smart thrillers with unforgettable characters, this is a must-read.

Excellent! I thought this was really fun, with some great twists and turns, and really brought out the characters we know so well. Especially Oxana! Back to her usual, snarky self, I was pleased to find.
The story was a bit unusual, and I found it quite interesting. The machinations of the Twelve, and the Security Services, were amusing to see.
I do love that the series has been continued after what we saw on our screens, I am pleased that the main relationship has, shall we saw, its ups and downs, and that makes it all the more realistic.
I really can't wait for the next book - Bring it on!

I was excited for this read as a fan of both the Killing Eve book series and the TV series and I was not disappointed.

With Oxana and Eve considering leaving the twelve this book showed an additional side to Oxana, a side of caring and discovery. Uncovering activities like she is a child again (for the first time…) at the same time she does not lose her chaotic flair and need to murder.

This book made me super suspicious of some reoccurring characters and I am very intrigued as to how these are going to develop in future books. The additional narratives throughout this book provided insight into the complicated duo, adding an extra layer to the read

What I love about the Killing Eve books is that I know I am going to get a fantastic storyline, twists that I don’t see coming or shock me and action right from the start. They are books I can rely on to be entertaining reads..

I don’t think I have got through a Killing Eve book where I haven’t had suspicious around all the characters and who the villains is going to be. A great fifth book in the series and I cannot wait for many more books to come in the future.

Thank you to Boldwood books, the murder list and Luke Jennings for my NetGalley copy in exchange for this honest review.

I’m on the fence with this book. I loved the Killing Eve tv show and was eager to read another novel in this series. However I struggled with the subject matter and a found a stolen racehorse just didn’t appeal to me. I also wised for more action and dangerous exploits and found parts of the book that didn’t really capture my interest. However some as Percy’s were great especially how Eve and Oxana’s relationship developed. Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the chance to review.

The fifth instalment of the Killing Eve series. In this instance Eve and Oxana have to find a stolen horse. I found the beginning of the book slow, but once the two main characters started their investigation the story moved on apace. This is my first meeting with Eve and Oxana so i have no preconceptions as to what they are like. I found the second half out the book more fulfilling, story wise, than the beginning.it's a well written story but maybe an acquired taste. With thanks to the author, Boldwoo Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

2.5 rounded up. Maybe this is just personal preference, but I really prefer when Oxana/Eve are the central conflict of the story and the procedural “crime/adventure” is more of the B-plot. I feel like that’s how the other books were structured and they were just so much more engaging. This kind of felt like an extended epilogue to the series where they just plopped E/O in a random situation. It didn’t feel as real or deep to me. The horse stuff was just a bit too random / low stakes for my liking.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Long Shot - Luke Jennings

I adore this series of books - packed with dark humour and pacy writing - I feel that these characters are at their peak!

Not quite as grisly as I would have particularly liked - hence the four stars instead of five - but nevertheless, fans of Villanelle and Eve are going to love this outing.

Looking forward to them returning at some point - perhaps back to her deepest darkest best!

Longshot is an entertaining and fast-paced addition to the Killing Eve world. As someone familiar with Eve and Oxana from the TV series, I really enjoyed seeing their dynamic come to life on the page as they team up to solve a case. The plot is easy to follow, filled with intrigue and sharp dialogue. A great read for Killing Eve fans or anyone who enjoys a clever mystery/thriller.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an arc.

Thanks @netgalley @lukejenningsauthor and @theboldbookclub for the ARC

This is the 5th instalment of the #killingeve series, and sadly this is the 1st time I've read one, however, I have watched the TV series.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me hooked from start to finish and was full of twists and turns with great characters. I'd definitely recommend reading this book even if you haven't read or watched the series!

Once it grabbed me, I was completely drawn in ✨ A fast-paced, thrilling ride full of tension, clever twists, and the magnetic pull between Eve and Oxana 💥 The clever plotting and unexpected turns kept me guessing and completely engaged throughout. The story races along, thrilling and addictive from start to finish ❤️

Thanks to NetGalley, the author Luke Jennings, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this! 🙏
