Kestrel & Kee Paranormal Investigators #2

The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove

Rate this book
As a new year rings in Archie and Phil are about to wrestle with an entity hellbent on riding the dark waves of their worst nightmares.

Archimedes Kee is so in love that he can’t seem to think straight. Not only is his boyfriend, Phil Kestrel, the most amazing man in Liverswell, Massachusetts, but he’s also the other half of their newly formed paranormal investigative duo. While Archie possesses the gift to speak with the dead, Phil is at his side livestreaming their encounters with those who have yet to move over to the light. Since their rather harrowing night at Lake Killikee in the fall they’ve been taking small cases for local folks. Easy jobs such as simple seances or trips to the local cemetery to ask where someone hid important papers.

Nothing too taxing for the couple or their backup techs. But views are dropping while foot traffic to the Kee’s dusty bookstore are falling off. They need new content. And it needs to be as big as the Halloween show.

Pushing aside his reservations Archie agrees to travel out to an abandoned asylum in the next county for a New Year’s Eve glow party that should give their viewers the scary—and cute romantic boy love—content that they crave. With their camera and a bottle of bubbly to celebrate a sleepover in a creepy hospital that has fallen into ruin in hand, Archie and Phil are about to run into a terrifying force that only wants one to feast on their darkest night terrors.

Kestrel and Kee—The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove is an opposites attract, established couple, queer new adult paranormal romance with a devoted pair of sweethearts, a cheeky residentiary ghost, lots of family love, two poltergeists with secrets to share, a cursed sanatorium, and a well-deserved happy ending.

Arc Review: The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove (Kestrel & Kee Paranormal Investigators #2 ) by V.L. Locey
MC:Archie & Phil 4⭐

”This was me being a twit. Seriously, it was nothing. Pay no attention to the dork in the glasses.”
“Never. I will never not pay any attention to the sexy man in the glasses.” He lowered his mouth to mine, a gentle warm kiss that was sorely needed. “I’ll give him all my attention all the time.”
“I adore you.”

Well-deserved happy ending

These two, omg — absolutely adorable. And Phil? What a unicorn boyfriend, truly. Meanwhile Archie, our nerdy gay medium of Asian man, just rocks out to Phil’s 80s tunes 😄

I’ll admit, I liked Book 1 a little more. Established couples don’t always work for me — maybe because there’s less of that delicious discovery and tension? This one felt a bit familiar plot-wise too; same tone, similar mystery setup. Still, the paranormal case — the Smoke Man — was properly eerie, good eerie. While this is cozy, there’s heavy themes and the ghosts at the asylum and cemetery had horrible deaths, and Archie feels their fear and pain intensity. The descriptions of this are very powerful.

Their domestic rhythm, their teasing, the way they comfort each other — all of it feels genuine and deeply affectionate. This is not a steamy book, but it’s intimate and beautiful 😍

It was also wonderful seeing Archie fully embracing his heritage and leaning into his spiritual gifts. There’s a newfound confidence in how he connects with his ancestors, honours his culture, and channels his medium abilities not just as a talent but as a calling — helping lost souls find peace and casting out darker, restless entities. His journey feels empowering and gives the paranormal thread an emotional, almost sacred dimension that balances beautifully with the light humour and romance.

And can we talk about Reggie? I adore him. Every single time he appears, he completely steals the scene with his banter, his oversized heart, and his wildly inappropriate oversharing about hairy balls and riding stallions 😂 Grandpa and Monique deserve a shout-out too — charming side additions that ground the story.

Overall, though, The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove is another solid and thoroughly entertaining addition to this charming, cozy, spooky-sweet series. It balances humour, found family, intimacy, and the paranormal with warmth and compassion. Even if it didn’t wow me quite as much as book 1, it’s still a lovely continuation of Archie and Phil’s journey as paranormal investigators.

That said, I’m not entirely sure if this is meant to be the final book or if there’s more to come — the ending felt quite open. It’s happy, full of family warmth and love that feels grounded and secure, but it also left me wondering about their next steps. I would’ve liked a slightly more definitive conclusion, or at least a hint about possible future stories in this world.

We're a team, Arch. Kestrel and Kee, Paranormal Investigators. That’s what our cool logo says, and that’s what we are. A pair. A duo. A couple. On camera and off. Right?” Phil asked, and all I could do was nod and kiss him on his sweet lips.

I received a copy of this book from GRR, and this is my honest review.

Well the second entry in this new paranormal romance series from Vicki is excellent, in fact, it's an even creeper success than the first one was.

I do love this pairing, Phil is such a Golden Labrador, he feels things deeply and his parental unit's lack of care is something that makes me rage on his behalf.

Fortunately, he has Archie and his extended family, including the ghosts, to love him and willingly accept him into their fold and that's proved beyond doubt in this instalment.

The setting, of a former "lunatic" asylum is a perfect one for a spooky New Year's Eve stream to try and generate more funding for Archie's family bookstore, and it soon becomes clear that there are definitely things that go bump in the night inhabiting the ruined walls.

As with book one, Vicki paints a truly scary picture that's highly visible and easy to get lost in the narrative and, when the jump scares come, get taken aback by the suddenness of the change in tempo.

No spoilers, but I do love how things develop in this story, not only with Archie coming to terms more easily with his gift and how he can use it, but also with the news that there may be powerful allies close to home.

More please!

Aww Phil, your Labrador exuberance and gentleness are really put to the test in The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove. V.L. Locey's newest instalment in the Kestrel & Kee series.
Shy Archie and the garrulous Phil have got to be one of the most adorable couples ever. They are perfect for one another. The boys, ghost hunters extraordinaire find that the number of subscribers to their ghost hunting streaming channel is falling. To reignite interest and save Archie's grandfather's struggling bookstore, they decide to spend New Year's Eve at an abandoned, haunted asylum, hoping for some frightening content for their fans.
The boys go underprepared into a genuinely cursed place, and discover that it's a recipe for disaster. This story is even scarier than the first! The asylum proves to be inhabited by more than just typical ghosts. lt is haunted by the Mare Rider, a formidable spirit that preys on its victims' deepest fears. Using its supernatural abilities to directly target Phil's innermost anxieties, it focuses on his feelings of worthlessness stemming from his unloving vile parents. Vicki's writing captured his terror so powerfully that I was right there with him, desperate to pull him out of the page.
Phil is totally wrecked by the experience, and as he and Archie face this terrifying new threat, their strong bond is tested. However, despite his terror at the thought of losing Archie, Phil finds that the experience ultimately deepens their bond, resulting in a happy and fulfilling ending for them both.
Vicki is such a talented writer, in this book, she cleverly balances the spooky and sweet. Despite it being a chilling tale, it's also romantic and heartwarming, what with young lovers, family love, and a bit of cheeky humour from their resident ghost, the indomitable Reggie. More please Vicki.....😉

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove is the second book in V.L. Locey’s Kestrel and Key Paranormal Investigators series and I am really enjoying these books. Locey does a nice job combining intense and exciting paranormal stories with a really great new adult vibe. The adventures at Cornwall Cove are suitably scary and there is a definite sense of danger. The guys get in over their heads, rushing into this new live stream without proper planning, and they end up in real trouble. In addition to the thrills of the investigation itself, I loved how the story also incorporates Archie’s Chinese ancestry and Buddhist beliefs, as well as as the voodoo traditions practiced by Archie’s grandfather’s girlfriend. The series really highlights those cultural elements, particularly Archie’s own family’s connection to the supernatural.

I love Archie and Phil (as well as Archie’s extended family — both real and ghostly). And I think the paranormal suspense elements are really well done and quite exciting.

This was so good. I love it when we have books with established, stable couples, facing the world together. In this case, the whims of the online algorithm and an evil spirit that feeds on nightmares. And they get to be cute in the meantime, which I absolutely adore. This is the kind of book I love to get my hands on in spooky season

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My favorite ghost hunters are back! Just let me start by saying I love this book and I’m so glad I got an advance copy to review. Arch and Phil find themselves in not quite dire financial straits, but bad enough that they need to do a new podcast to get so much needed funds for Arch’s grandfather’s bookstore. It’s winter break and no students mean no book sales. Phil is getting ready for football playoffs and Arch is studying up on what exactly it means to be part of a long line of people who must deal with ghosts in their everyday lives.

They decide to explore an abandoned insane asylum nearby for a New Year’s Eve broadcast. Arch knows it could turn bad because of the history of the hospital. It had closed in the 1950s. Someone had bought the place in the 1990s, but their ownership was short-lived. The new owner and his fiancée’ had thrown themselves out of a window after a few visits to the hospital. It was definitely not a good place.

Arch and Phil go to the asylum to do live broadcast, but nothing goes according to plan. They were going to do a light and humorous show, but it ended up dark and nearly cost them their lives.

I don’t want to spoil the rest of the book, but just expect a few twists and turns. We get to know Grandfather’s girlfriend Monique. She’s a descendant of Marie Laveau, the New Orleans Voodoo queen. Her helping the boys plays a large part in the end of the book.

I was so excited when I got this book, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s fun, spicy, and scary. What else can you want from a book? I highly recommend it. In fact, I’m going to be buying a copy of the book for my collection. I only do that with review copies that I absolutely adore and this fits the bill. Thanks to the author for writing a great book.

Book 2 and I'm absolutely in love with Phil and Archie. OMG...Can Phil get any sweeter??? He adores Archie and Archie loves him back. Their relationship continues on along with more mysteries and investigating to help with the finances... but mainly Archie accepts his calling to help the ghosts and their love ones who needs him to solve their issues. Also we see Phil accepts some truths in his life which are hard but he has Archie, his friends and other love ones that are like family...so supportive...I got all the feels when reading and just enjoyed myself immensely while reading.

Here's hoping there is a book 3 coming soon...I will love to continue reading the investigating stories with these two lovely young men in love.

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

oh my heart these boys❤️❤️❤️ The relationship development between Phil and Archie is wonderful. Phil is such a "golden retriever " without being portrayed as dumb(despite some self-deprecating comments), and his being basically adopted by the Kees and Monique is so heart warming.
The "mystery" was well done, spooky and engaging. I really really really recommend these books and I cannot wait for the next installment...Hopefully it will somehow be published earlier than noted🤞🤞🤞

The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove is the second book in the Kestrel and Kee - Paranormal Investigators series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. We are back with Archie and Phil for another adventure. This time they are spending New Year's Eve at the abandoned Cornwall Cove Lunatic Aslyum. This was another amazing story that I couldn't put down. I loved the characters and world building that went into this series. These two are just perfect for each other. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

kestrel & Key Paranormal Investigators are back with another ivestigation! This time pur men are convinced to take on the Cornwall Cove Lunatic Aslyum for a a New Year's Glo Party like no other, what could possibly go wrong? Going under prepared into a asylum leads to everything and anything that could go wrong and our men needing the support of their found family to help the souls of the asylum move on. Archie and Phil are as sweet as ever, with their lives becoming more interconnected showing the strong foundation these men have to show they were made for each other. VL does a beautiful job in mixing that right amount of spookiness into the story for a great Halloween read! I hope they keep up with thia tradition of a yearly Halloween story!

Loved it!

Archie and Phil are back! The heartwarming jock/nerd couple are back for another spine tingling paranormal investigation. Money is tight and Roxie wants them to do another podcast but she picks an awful site for their next podcast, a creepy abandoned lunatic asylum with a terrifying reputation and unfortunately Roxy, Tray, Archie and Phil do not do their due diligence and Archie and Phil go in woefully unprepared.

Unfortunately it is poor Phil who bears the consequences and the author wrote his terror so well I could feel it. There is a ghost/phantom/demon, nobody actual knows what it is, only that he terrorises all the ghosts in the asylum and kills human visitors and the ghosts call him Black Smoke Man and he can reach inside your head and bring forth your worst nightmares, which he feeds off. Phil is the big football jock, the one who protects his boyfriend and to see him sobbing like a baby was gut wrenching. We find out about his parents in this book and they are heartless and prejudice, but this reveal gives Phil more layers and brings him and Archie even closer and of course Archie’s family, blood and chosen rally around Phil to give him a loving family.

It’s good to see Archie accepting his gift as the seeing Kee eye past down from his ancestors, and seeing it as his gift to use helping others and so Phil’s begging won’t stop Archie from trying to resolve this case.

We get to catch up with Archie’s grandfather and his partner, and Monique is badass. She is a great help to Archie and they work together, his Asian heritage and her black heritage and it turns out she is from a family of powerful witches. Of course Reggie is still the resident ghost at the bookshop with Eloise, who was killed in a traffic accident and Carl, the milkman whose horse kicked him in the head as his friends who frequent the bookshop.

This was very entertaining and a real page turner and I can’t wait to catch up with feisty Archie and loveable Labrador Phil and the gang again in another spooky mystery. Recommend.

It's so good to be back with Kestrel & Kee! They may go off a bit half-cocked on this one but they soon learn how to do things better next time.
Archie and Phil are still going strong and it's been a bit quiet on the paranormal investigation side. So, their friend and tech back up sells the idea of a local asylum on New Year's Eve. Neither are sure about it but know that they owe it to their followers. Heading out to somewhere like that is always nervewracking for a 'normie' (as Archie calls us) but for Archie and Phil, who understand what they may come up against, it's even more about the unknown. And, of course, they were right to fear it as what they face is worse than what Archie has seen before.
Luckily for these two, they have a great back up team in Grandpa and Monique, who has a secret of her own, and their friends, Roxie and Trey. It's clear no one was fully prepared for that and it was definitely scary for a moment. I also need to give Phil the biggest hug! He goes through a lot in this one, and not just regarding the paranormal investigation.
I really got into the story unfolding and how they looked into and interacted with the paranormal, with some interesting bits of history and thoughts included. Archie is put to the test several times, Phil even makes him run! I especially enjoyed the nod to their Asian heritage and the celebrations that they share over Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year with the whole group.
I loved book one and number two definitely lives up to it. A highly engaging read that I can really recommend, especially around Halloween!
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Archie and Phil are back for another paranormal investigation. Unfortunately, it's one they aren't properly prepared for and Phil takes the brunt of an evil attack, making him relive past horrific nightmares. This jock/nerd college duo are a heartwarming romantic couple that are trying to make ends meet. Phil may have come from an affluent family, but his parents are some nasty, prejudiced people who have cut him off. Thankfully, he has been more than welcomed by Archie's Grampa, as well as some other secondary characters that are instrumental in the depth and development of their story, including a few ghosts. Archie is becoming more accepting of his supernatural gifts and the responsibility he has for them and those he can help. Together, Archie and Phil are a remarkable and strong couple who each give and receive, making their love powerful.
The only downside was a huge inconsistency where Phil was supposed to play a football playoff game on New Year's Day, but after their New Year's Eve show had major issues - like an unexpected, malevolent force and huge technical difficulties - they spent the first part of New Year's Day recovering, researching, and planning to go back that night to deal with the entity, and there was no mention of the game that was supposed to take place that day.
Other than that issue, this was a really enjoyable book, and I would recommend it. This series is best read in order so you can fully understand their relationship, their paranormal show and why and how it came to be, as well as Archie learning to use and accept his gift that comes from a long line of Kee family members.

I received an ARC from GRR, this is my honest opinion.

beignets & chi tea, groovy platform shoes, big purple chicken, Pharch, jin dui, brass key, sweaty eyeballs, Chinese NY, line dance

This pretty much has the same elements of Book #1: mystery, supernatural, romance, and so much humor. But, the story is nothing like Book #1, "The Siren of Lake Killikee" - Kestrel & Kee Paranormal Investigators. That involved a lake female spirit, Mennonite ghosts, pumpkin patches, and apple orchards. Book #2, "The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove" revolves around an insane asylum, a revenant, and voudoo.

The story picks up two months after the ending of Book #1 -- a bit before NY. Arch, Phil, Tray, and Roxie plan another streaming show centered on a long-closed asylum. Horrific medical treatments and experiments were regularly conducted there.

Arch sees many spirits stuck at the hospital ruins. For the most part, they are FIA spirits. Then the two men encounter a malevolent one. It attacks Phil as he slept; the evil ghost actually possesses him for a short time. Although psychically overwhelmed, Arch rescues Phil. Back at the bookstore, Grandpa's girlfriend Monique offers her help of the voudoo kind.

Except for the ghosts and some side characters, the characters are the same. So for maximum enjoyment, reading Book #1 first is recommended. I liked the short interval between the stories. The imagery is just as stunning and visually well-written. The story itself is cannily crafted and is outstanding. I tremendously enjoyed myself, and ardently recommended.

"A little learning is a dangerous thing".

Dear Fellow Readers,
Seriously, I don't know where to begin.
The characters are alright. Very naive, but alright.
The story/plot is OK, as far as the paranormal parts go.
But the Message...
There. Is. Only. One. Truth. It. Is. Absolute. And. If. You. Don't. Embrace. It. Completely. You. Are. Anathema.
(and doomed to hell)

The Authoress implies that the only people put in Insane Asylums were there for sexist or racist reasons only...
The truth is that the first psychiatric medication ever was syntethised in 1950. Chlorpromazine, an anti-psycotic. Before that, the only tools they had were sedation and restraint. And various shock treatments, which sounds horrible to us.
Pharmacology is a new science. We could just as well be angry with the Cro-Magnons for not using antibiotics and not having ICUs.
Morals and values were different. Who do you think changed those values, over time?
Exchangeing one straight jacket for another is not a solution.
I am 68. Please come back in 50 years and complain about values popular in 2075...

So, no, I will not waste more of my time and money on this Authoress.

"There is no harm in admiring that which the good Lord has made in such divine and exquisite detail.”

This is book 2 in the series Kestrel & Kee Paranormal Investigators. What a great follow up story by author V.L. Locey. After reading book 1 last year I was worried that there wasn't going to be a book 2, since so much time has passed. It's been almost a year since I read and reviewed book 1. I was so excited to see this book and couldn't wait to read this. I was also excited to see that book three is going to be out next year around the same time.

Oh my, how I love these two guys. Phil is such a protective teddy bear and Archie is finally starting to grow more confident in his abilities and honing his skills as the Kee seeing eye. I also love Grandpa, Monique, and the resident ghosts. There's never a dull moment with Reggie around.

Both of these books were scary and dealt with some frightening paranormal attacks on both Phil and Archie.

Opposites attract, jock/nerd, fun ghosts, scary specters, loving grandfather, found family, brings some heat

Archie and Phil return for another spine-tingling paranormal investigation, and this one packs an emotional punch. While they’re no strangers to supernatural chaos, this time they’re caught off guard—and Phil bears the brunt of a malevolent attack that dredges up haunting memories from his past. This jock/nerd college duo continues to be one of the most heartwarming romantic couples in fiction. Their love is tender, resilient, and deeply human. Phil’s background—cut off by his wealthy but prejudiced parents—adds layers to his character, and it’s touching to see how Archie’s Grampa and other secondary characters (including a few ghosts!) step in to form a chosen family around them. Archie’s journey toward embracing his supernatural gifts and the responsibility they carry is beautifully written. The way he and Phil support each other—giving and receiving in equal measure—makes their bond feel powerful and real. This book was a thoroughly enjoyable read and he mystery, the romance, the paranormal twists—it all works. I highly recommend reading the series.

I love this series! I am usually not a big fan of spooky stories, but the world-building and character development (both main and secondary characters) of this series have me hooked. I love the duo of Kestrel and Kee. They are different in many ways, yet compliment each other perfectly. After the success of their pod-cast and bookstore traffic start to taper off, the duo agree to do a New Year's Eve glow party at an abandoned asylum, to give their fans a little spooky (as well as a bit of spice), but they get more than they bargained for, as not all the spirits are at rest...or benevolent. I won't give away any secrets, but there were some unexpected plot twists, ghosts and poltergeists, and enough suspense and spooky moments to make my heart pound. Fortunately the guys have each other's backs, and also their friends and found family to help them (and they'll need them!). This was a great book, perfect for the Halloween season, and I look forward to next years' spooky tale.

“The Mare Rider of Cornwall Cove” is the second book in the ‘Kestrel & Kee Paranormal Investigators’ series and follows the intrepid pair as they investigate an abandoned asylum on New Year’s Eve to give a boost to their popular streaming channel. Unfortunately, they get far more response than they want, and they are drawn into danger that they may not survive.

This new adult gay paranormal romance is a perfect story for this time of the year. I love this very lusty and adorable couple, and I have to say that the author vividly depicted the creepiness of the environment, but fortunately the appearances of some of the “regular” ghost acquaintances provided much-needed bits of levity. I’m really happy that multiple cultures and belief structures are represented, and the asides that the ghost Reg provide also give insight to the era he lived in. I love that there are ghost animals represented as well, and the deep connection that the guys continue to display is so heartwarming that I hope this series continues to flourish.

Archie Kee is back with more tales from beyond the veil. Locey constructs a fabulous world filled with ghosts, a fantastic found-family and a wonderful existing couple in Archie’s relationship with Phil.

There is so much to love about this book that I don’t even know where to start. Grandpa and Monique are supportive seniors who love on both of the college men. All of the ghosts that reside in and around the bookstore are so much fun, especially Reggie and the cat. The Cornwall Cove asylum is delightfully unsettling and plays a huge role in the telling of this tale. I don’t want to give anything away but I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through this paranormal story.

Locey skillfully combines Archie’s ancient gift as a seer with the modern concept of a paranormal streaming show, navigating the wisdom of ancestors with subscribers and sponsors.

I love this series so much and hope there’s a third book sometime soon. Five stars.

I’m really loving this series! Phil and Archie are the perfect PNR team.

I love how despite putting themselves in dangerous situations, Phil is always there to support Archie. This time things got away from them and Phil’s life was threatened but even still, Phil understood how important Archie’s job as Kee descendant is.

They work so well together. I love the fact that Archie and grandpa have given Phil the family he always dreamed of. His actual family doesn’t deserve such a sweet soul like him.

It’s true what they say that family doesn’t always mean blood. Phil fits perfectly in Archie’s family.

My favorite part is their kisses at the end of an episode. Screw all the bigots and racist jerks that can’t accept them.

I love this series and would definitely recommend reading the first book before this one, where we get to see the development of Archie and Phil’s relationship. They are an established couple here with a new paranormal adventure to take on.

These two young men (college-age) are so lovable, each in their own way. I love all of their supportive side characters…real and apparitional. Locey does her usual outstanding job of making me feel invested in the characters and happily continue turning the pages to follow along with their story. I had chuckle out loud, as well as tense, moments unsure how things were going to play out with the adventure. I don’t want to give anything away, so readers can dive in and see for themselves what the Kestrel & Key Paranormal Investigators encounter this time. I enjoyed it very much!

I’m loving this series, with its mix of wonderful characters, romance the paranormal, and some scary situations. I liked the way the haunting in this story was resolved, and the realistic consequences of trespassing somewhere they shouldn’t be.

I love Archie and Phil, individually, as a couple, and how their relationship grows. I love how Archie is embracing his abilities, and how supportive Phil is, even when confronted by something terrifying.

I like the part family plays, with Phil’s not what everyone thinks, while Grandpa and Monique totally rock. I like the growing friendship with Roxie and Tray, and the new additions to their story, whom I hope we see more of.

I loved the role the resident ghosts play in the story, especially Reg and Sir Thomas, and the those trapped at the asylum.

I hope there will be more in this series.

What a fantastic addition to the series!
The ride we are taken on is a little steamy and a lot scary!
We get to go to a haunted mental facility and what happens in there and on the property? Dang!
Let me just say I was literally on the edge of my seat when I was reading this. I am not ashamed to admit I jumped quite a few times.
The gang from the first book is back and they have Kee and Kestrel's backs...sometimes it's from a distance and I feared it might not be enough.
I refuse to give anymore away. I don't want to ruin the surprises for the reader.
But know this, you will absolutely love this story and will get surprises you never saw coming...some worse than others.

Archie and Phil are back in another ghostly adventure. This time at an abandoned asylum for lunatics, should be a cinch, right?
I love how Archie, Yeye and Monique adopted Phil, whose parents are just the worst. Both MCs couldn't be more different - Archie is the voice of the story - he is snarky, practical and wary of people outside of his circle (some due to how he's been treated based on his ethnic origin, being a nerd and gay). Phil has golden retriever energy, what you see is what you get, but has a layer of hurt due to his parent's indifference. He is so sweet, glad that Archie's family have all but adopted him. Love some of the resident ghosts, especially the irreverent Reggie.
Nice continuation of the series!

Phil has got to be the most loyal and sweetest boyfriend anyone can ask for. Arch and Phil are back with another adventure That’s a little more scary than the last one. Throughout the story, we learned a little more about arch’s family history, and what has truly been hurting Phil.
Despite everything, Phil stays true to himself, and through both his words and his actions, he shows how much he truly loves arch, arch does the same. Arch and his family are the best, loving and very supportive.
These men are very cute and super sweet together, they have each other’s back, no matter what. This book was very enjoyable and I can’t wait to read their next adventure. ❤️😁

Archie and Phil's relationship deepens in this story and it's lovely to see that happen as well as seeing Archie coming into his own in terms of accepting the fullness of his powers and using them for good. The downturn in viewers for their show feels realistic as does the financial crunch at the bookstore so it makes sense they look for a super creepy place to investigate and film. Nothing seems creepier to me than an abandoned asylum and sure enough, there are some genuine scares in the story. The banter is great, the comfort of found family and the love between Archie and Phil is strong and the creepiness is wonderfully done. Another winner in this series.

Wow, I think this may be better than the first book in the series. Phil, big cinnamon roll that he is and nerdy seer and ghost whisperer are back with a new paranormal investigation. The asylum was heartbreaking and the story clever and weirdly informative. I find slasher flicks funny rather than scary. It's the psychological stories; the tension, the waiting, the wondering, that gets me. It's difficult to create this feeling in a book, but this was a damn good shot at it. If you want a bit of paranormal spookiness for halloween, this is a good bet. 4.5*

This is the second book in the Kestrel and Kee (Paranormal Investigators) series. This was a great follow up to the first adventure of our ghost fighting duo. The characters are well developed and the pace is terrific. I love getting to learn more about the characters in this series, not just the main characters, but some of the other characters also. I wondered how the author was going to top the paranormal story of the first book, but she did. This one is just as good and unique. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series.

This is a great addition to the Kestrel & Kee series, and it's a real page-turner. Archie and Phil love each other so much, and they have a small but mighty support system who remind them just how special they are. I love seeing Archie begin to embrace his talents and his birthright purpose, and I love seeing Phil's adoration and willingness to protect Archie. These two are incredible, never stopping despite their fear and pain, and I appreciate that about them. I really hope their stories keep coming.
