3.25🌟

This debut novel offers a fresh mix of emotional recovery and high-stakes competition, with a concept that feels like a reality TV show on the page.

The writing is strong, and the plot's structure keeps the tension simmering, especially as secrets unfold and the romance slowly builds.

While the pacing can feel uneven and the characters a bit hard to connect with at times, the premise is engaging enough to keep readers curious.

For those who enjoy slow-burn drama where the biggest win is emotional healing and unexpected love, this is a solid start to a promising duology.

I absolutely enjoyed this book! It was captivating from the beginning to the end. I really enjoyed the strategic side of the story and the way the main character was thinking throughout the book. It was such a refreshing change from reality TV shows that only focus on love without any real strategy.

I could really relate to the MC and the way he acted! I also appreciated that he wasn’t just defined by his wealth, but by his personality and backstory. The side characters were amazing too and each one was easy to distinguish. The only one I found a bit hard to read was Emma, but I still loved her boldness.

I would like to thank both the author and the Berry Agency the chance to read this as an ARC.

Col O. Broox's debut novel offered an immediately intriguing fusion of genres, setting a deeply personal journey of recovery against the backdrop of a thrilling, high-stakes competition.

I think this is a promising start to a duology, and the author has skillfully blended a competition-thriller framework with a genuine focus on emotional growth and new adult romance.

The competition structure naturally introduced urgency and immediate conflict, which kept me turning pages, eager to know who wins the fortune, and what secrets Hunter's father is hiding. Whilst the book promised a high stakes drama , I did find it to be quite a slow burn, with a lot of build up to the developing relationships of the two main characters meaning that I did start to stray with my attention.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read, and I'll probably end up reading the remainder of this duology when it is released, as I'm somewhat invested in seeing if the author can convincingly portray the emotional thaw of a character who has purposefully pushed love away.

I think it will appeal to readers who enjoy high-stakes drama where the biggest prize is not the fortune but the chance to heal and find connection. And of course, finding love when you least suspect it.

Thank you to Col O. Broox and the berry agency for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest review. I’m rating this one a 3.5 stars!

This is the first time I’m reading a book by this author and it was an interesting experience. The Story Of Yellow is a contemporary romance set in the world of a high stakes competition. It reminded me of reality TV in that aspect that usually has lots of drama going on but with this book, there wasn’t too much going on. I didn’t really get the chance to really learn about the characters as much as I would like to. I think this book did a good job of introducing everyone and the environment but since it is a duology, I am curious to see if we get to know more about everyone on a more deeper level considering everything was happening pretty slowly with the characters. The author did a pretty good job at keeping the secrets aspect of this book a secret enough to make me curious about what will all be revealed. This is only my second book that I’ve read that has been like a reality tv competition type of vibe so I’m really interested to see if this genre will capture my attention.

I would like to thank Col O. Broox and The Berry Agency for giving me an ARC of this novel.

The premise of this story is quite interesting, especially if you’re a fan of reality television competition shows. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the story. It felt a bit drawn out and you didn’t really get much from the actual competition. There was quite a bit internal monologue and opinions but not much actually happened. I also found it very difficult to invest in the story because I found the two main characters to be highly unlikable. The MMC came across and arrogant and became concerningly possessive and obsessive over the FMC after only knowing her for 1 day. The FMC comes across as quite mean. I found the writing to be great but could not get invested in the story. It is only the first book of a biology so I’m hoping the second one shows growth in these characters. I would still recommend this book because of the interesting premise and the potential for this story to really take off.

What a ride!!!
If you secretly can’t get enough of reality TV drama, The Story of Yellow I. needs to be on your TBR!
From the moment you step onto this sun-soaked tropical island, you’re pulled straight into a whirlwind of alliances, rivalries, and irresistible drama. The cast feels like a true reality-show lineup. The story unfolds through alternating perspectives from Emma and Hunter. Hunter fits the rich alpha archetype to a T - arrogant, charismatic, and absolutely convinced the world bends for him. Emma, meanwhile, is the grounded counterbalance: sharp, ambitious, unflappable, and with just the right amount of sass. She’s the type of heroine you root for effortlessly.
I found myself cheering for these two not just as competitors, but as two flawed, determined people trying to outrun their past and maybe, accidentally, find something real in the middle of a manufactured paradise.
If you're craving sunshine, scandal, and just the right amount of chemistry, this is the perfect read for you!

Title: The Story of Yellow
Author: Col O. Broox
Tropes:
* Reality TV
* Secret Billionaire
* Rivals to Lovers
* Tropical Setting
* High Stakes Environment

This book is a contemporary romance wrapped in a high-stakes reality show competition, where strategy, secrets and unexpected love collide.
I enjoyed the book, but not as much as I thought I would. There could have been more competitions and challenges for the characters to participate in to make it more exciting.
I am not sure how I feel about the two main characters. For me, the MMC was too quickly attached and obsessed and trusting with the FMC, especially after what happened to him in his past. The FMC was quite mean and we do not know much about her, but overall the writing was great.
I would still like to read the second book when it comes out. There is still very much that needs to happen and secrets to unravel and I am quite interested to see who this Game Master is and who will win the game.

I would like to thank Col O Broox and The Berry Agency for giving me an advance reader copy.

The idea of this book was really good and had me really excited as I love reality TV so I thought it was going to be the book version of a reality TV show
I really struggled with the characters with this book. I wasn’t able to invest in any of the characters on their stories as much as I would have liked to. There is a lot of back-and-forth and different information about different characters which I found to be a little bit confusing and a little bit overwhelming.

This writing style of this book was good and the concept was good and I will be reading the second book to see what happens and what happens within the competition as I am invested in that side of it. However I would have like more character development and gotten to know more about the main characters of this book

Thank you again to the Berry agency for providing a copy of this book

If reality tv is your guilty pleasure don't miss out on this book!!!

I had the privilage to read The Story of Yellow before its official realease, something I am honestly grateful for. The story takes you to a tropical island and introduces you to a bunch of characters some loveable some will make you want to scratch their eyes out.

We'll learn the events through the eyes of the two main characters, Hunter and Emma.

Hunter, the MMC is a typical billionaire alpha-male who thinks the world revolvs around him. If that is your thing you'll like him right away. If less so, warming up to him will take some time. Emma the FMC on the other hand is smart, collected, driven and just sassy enough to be instantly likeable.

I rooted for them not just to win the competition but to overcome their past hurts and fall in love with eachother already.

All in all it is the perfect read if you want to get some of those summer vibes back a bit.

The Story of Yellow by Col O Broox.

Thank you to the Berry Agency for allowing me to review this title.

I really enjoyed this book! We follow Hunter, a workaholic recovering from a serious illness, whose dad challenges him to join a reality show — with the family fortune on the line. It’s such an interesting setup that mixes family drama, competition, and a bit of mystery, and possible love!

The writing is really strong and pulls you in, though the character development starts off a bit slow. Since it’s a duology, I’m guessing we’ll see much more growth in the next book. Hunter’s journey to figure out who he really is, while trying to uncover his dad’s secrets kept me hooked. I really wanted to know more but I can be patient until the next book. Will he find love, and can he finally beat his dad at his own game?

Overall, a well-written and enjoyable read that sets up the sequel perfectly. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The Story of Yellow by Col O.Broox

Thank you, @theberryagency, for sending me an e-ARC ❤️

One thing that made me request this debut novel is the words "high stakes competition." Absolutely love when it's about competition to win family fortunes, and this served exactly that!

I absolutely loved reading this one, and I was curious the entire time to know who would win the fortune and what secrets Hunter's father was hiding. It is indeed a slow burn story, but as much as I love the romance plot, I was looking forward to more of the competition scenes. However, as in most competition for family fortunes, the true prize is not the fortune itself but the connections you build up and facing yourself.

I highly recommend this, especially if you're a fan of the Inheritance games by J.L. Barnes!!! Except the premise is a TV reality show that made things more entertaining! I'm definitely excited to see what the sequel would bring!

Thank you to The Berry Agency and author for the e-Arc.

Unfortunately, this one was just not for me. I felt zero connection to any of the characters and the romance was far too insta-obsession for me.

I need my books to be a lot more fleshed out in either plot or characters and both these aspects fell short / felt a bit one dimensional to me.

I still don’t really understand what the game show is or what anyones motivation for being there is. That could be done on purpose as a kind of extended mystery vibe, but my lack of connection to the rest of the story leaves me less than interested.

The writing itself is great however, so I wouldn’t steer readers away from giving this a shot if you think it is more your style!

Arc review!
Thankyou to the berry agency and col o brooxs

This book is not my typical go to genre but I still enjoyed reading it. The elements of the reality game show is different to read about and had me excited to read more. I enjoyed this book but I don’t think this genre is for me!
I think the book was a slow start and took me a while to get into it and it was a tad confusing, saying that the writing was really good and I’d be interested to keep reading books from this author in the future and to see where this series goes!
I think the character development wasn’t all there so hopefully the next book it expands on it a bit more and we can see more of a backstory about the main characters

Thank you to Col O. Broox and Hayling Bookstorm for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

If you enjoy high-stakes competition, some mystery, topped off with a slow burn romance steeped in emotional growth, then this may just be the book for you. This is a debut novel for this author and the first in a duology, so keep that in mind going in!

I thought this was a great story. I really resonated with Hunter and his quest to figure out what his father is hiding. As stated before, there is high-stakes drama, and this kept me engaged in the story and wanting to know what was going to happen next. I am curious to see how this story ends, and how the two main characters continue to navigate an unexpected love.

Thank you The Berry Agency and Col O Brooxs for this Arc

I really enjoyed this story, the reality tv series back drop was something different and fun to read.

I really enjoyed all the different personalities of the characters and the psychological games being played.

I do think the connection between the two MC was a bit quick for myself, making it feel a bit unbelievable. I would love to see a bit more character development as well.

I will continue readying the series as I am invested in the game and the characters, I am excited to see the challenges thrown at them.

Omg I loved this book so much. This game challenge show has you guessing and second guessing each characters motive and next step. I was intrigued from the very start. I cannot wait for the next one to come out. I think i know who the headmaster is but I will have to wait and see if I am correct. So nail biting a must read.

First of all thank you to Col O. Broox and the Berry Agency for sending me this ARC. This debut novel is quite well written. Though the pacing felt off a little at times.

This is a slow burn, with an unexpected love. I quite enjoyed the ride this book was. However, I did find that there was a lot of information at the beginning that could have been trickled throughout a few chapters, instead of all being in this first.

Overall, this is a solid 3 star in my opinion and I look forward to seeing what this author does next.
