MJ Lawrie doing what she does best! Cheeky wee novella for spooky season! I have loved everything she’s written and this did not disappoint, defo feels like this is just a wee taster and a few wee Easter eggs planted making you want more and wondering is there going to be. . .
If you read and loved all of MJ’s catalogue this is a no brianer.

Happy F*cking Halloween To All
M. J. Lawrie knocks it out the park yet again! Lawrie is a master of writing morally VERY grey (often just a shade away from black!) characters that you love, hate & absolutely always root for. That's exactly what this is - Halloween edition!
Also a big fan of how, in all of her work, Lawrie makes the female characters ultimately in charge & also just as effed up as everyone & everything else. Using trauma to fuel your rage & make men fear you? Love that for us.
Given this is a novella, I'm really hoping the ending is a teaser for a series & that this is essentially a baller character intro!!! More please!

Nate AKA ‘Pain’ is exactly what he’s imagined to be!! He feeds off pain 😫 and my God does he deliver!! … I hate what he does to Willow in the beginning!! - but … he makes the pain worth it with the pleasure 😍 he awards her with afterwards!!
Kai AKA ‘Fear’ is a monster! what he can make you believe you can see if horrific! The bugs 🐜 🕷️ 🦂 … yuck!! Arghhh!!!

A Cover Matching the Story? Yes Please
This may have been a fast-paced, gore infested revenge bath, but it was also a roller-coaster of spicy unhinged chaos. This is definitely perfect for the Halloween twisted lovers, but it is packed with triggers and body parts, so be aware of your mindset before jumping into this doozy.
When I first picked this quick read, I was expecting a pretty general but enjoyable outlook for a Halloween read, with a touch of darkness and plenty of spice going along well served on the side of an HEA. This had some build-up, a clear target for story direction, splashes of backstory to keep me curious, and a well-deserved destruction by Willow and her three princes of the underworld👏
The only thing I have felt needed a bit of change was the inner dialog of Willow. We don't get much of a view of others, but they are well represented through the story. Sadly she just felt off, like she couldn't make up her mind on what her personality was at points. Lovely read none-the-less.

The queen strikes again with another 5* read!
I have NO IDEA what it is about MJ’s writing but I just adore her.
This time round we have a spicy little Halloween number with all the triggers!
Our FMC is a conduit for the living to fuel the demons they serve. After suffering under the hands of multiple people in the brotherhood, she makes a deal with 3 Demons of pain, fear and Lust. She sets out to find each of their “vessels” and help bring them into the human realm in payment of them helping her get revenge on her tormentors.
We have major spice, Halloween vibes, haunted houses, and everything in between, and it’s the PERFECT short standalone for the spooky season!
Overall, i really enjoyed this book and highly recommend for all of my dark romance girlies out there!

The plot was good, and it was a really good concept. Freeing 3 princes of hell. Lust, Pain, and Fear.
Willow a conduit who can connect powerful individuals from the 'Brotherhood' to the demons in order to absorb their powers.
Sounds really good in theory. Unfortunately, this fell flat for me. Don't get me wrong, I love a good bit of spice and smut, but my god 🤦♀️ this was 95% smut, and there were only 159 pages!
I've read books that are over 400 pages faster than this because this felt like a chore to read.

October 22, 2025This was my first encounter with this author and I’m not sure what rating to give. The plot is killer, and for a novella there was a good amount of detail to the story. However…. I feel like the writing in some areas was just “meh” and it irked me to find so many grammatical errors.
All I know is I need therapy, a soul cleansing and a haunted house after finishing this. Happy Halloween, ya filthy animals!

This was a good short novel. In MJ Lawrie style, this turned extremely dark. And I love that about this author. Sadly for me, the spice scenes were not something I was comfortable with at all. And I think it went too far for my taste. Even after reading the trigger warnings.

Dark, depraved, delicious - 3 Ds to sum up the 3 Ds Willow is getting this Halloween.
MJ has never failed to pull me outta a slump. This was a short and sinfully spicy novella that I ate right up and I'd love to see more after that little line at the end!
100% recommend for anyone who, like me, isn't easily put off by questionable erotica (the trigger warnings are telling) or extreme gore.
I mean would I be me if I wasn't forcefully recommending MJ's books?

This book was chaotic as hell. The main character is Willow, and she made a deal with 3 devils to get out of a bad situation, get her revenge, and allow them to find vessels. The poor woman had been through hell. The smut was smutting, although it was rather brutal in some instances. She was able to get what she needed, and they were to. Some of the instances in the book had my stomach churning, and I was NOT prepared for what I read at ALL.

This book is the perfect Halloween Novella but naturally can be read at any time of the year.
It's gripping, it makes you root for the villains and makes you desperate to read more. Looking forward to seeing if we will ever see these characters again, but if not this is definitely something I will re read again.

Multiple times reading this I either burst out laughing or audibly gasped. Had to share quotes with friends that I can't share here. Just, MJ Lawrie at her best and I cannot recommend her books enough. Would definitely welcome more of these demon prince's.

M.J. Lawrie never disappoints. I've read all of her books and they all leave me craving the next book - series or not. I love her style and how much I care about the characters so quickly. Being drawn into the story, unable to put the book down.
Possess us is no exception. Even as a short story, everything was there. I would love it if this book became another series. Highly recommend.

This book!?! This book has to be the darkest, most spice filled book I've ever read. Definitely not for everyone and please read trigger warnings but I loved it. I love a strong FMC, Willow really went thru all sorts of hell in 174 pages. If you love dark romances and what to see just how dark you can handle this is the book for you! I will be looking for more books by M. J. Lawrie.

Dark as Night
This is by far one of the darkest things I’ve read but I loved it! Perfect for spooky season. However please read the trigger warnings. The MMCs are not nice and sweet. They are demons and they act accordingly. I didn’t think I had a lot of limits but this one pushed me for sure. So glad I stuck it out

Excellent novela for Halloween

Probably one of my favorite Novellas
Read it. It’s dark and delicious. Probably top 3 novella now. Lust, pain, & fear are shadow daddies that nightmares are made of ;).

Another amazing book! This author never disappoints! It has a unique plot and great characters. It gets pretty dark so read the trigger warnings before reading. You might love or hate the male mmc's. They do some crazy stuff!
