WHAT A BOOK! I genuinely wasn't expecting any of this book at all...but Beth...the straighteners? girl- dont get me started. that has me traumatised for life. but, this book is absolutely incredible. the spice was perfect and the storyline was exactly what I wanted! im so excited to read bloodlines
Darcy is kidnapped to be trafficked at 10 years old. Her first experience of the people who took her is traumatic, but she’s fascinated. It awoke something dark in her. She is fiery & headstrong even from a young age which her captors found useful.
Caine has fought his way up the ranks within the organisation. It’s his time to take a woman to be on his arm. His first interaction with Darcy & he knows she’s the one he wants. He doesn’t ever touch her in a sexual way until she’s of age, he refuses.
I loved the fact this gives you a good understanding into why Darcy is the way she is. She’s unhinged & feral, & I am living for it. It also gives you insight into how the organisation works which I really enjoyed.
Another amazing book by Beth! The Increment Series is by far the best series I have read. I eagerly wait for each book & devour it when I get it.
An absolutely brilliant novella, if I could I would of rated it 4.5 stars! It adds to the overall plotline giving more backstory & depth to the main books.
This one covers the backstory of Darcy & Caine who where mentioned in Songbird (book 1), delving more into the human trafficking ring.
You follow Darcy from being an innocent child playing ball in the front yard, to being kidnapped & what she experiences & how that moulds her into the adult she becomes.
Spice level on this is HIGH!! so not for the faint hearted, & as you would expect with this subject matter, please check your triggers before reading.
I devoured this novella in a couple hours, ready to start book 3 - Bloodlines, most definitely would recommend this series.
I loved the novella this was based on Darcy who was taken instead of her friend. Beth couldn't have written this any better I loved it and can't wait to see them in the next books
SPOILERS!!! You have been warned. There are some pretty graphic scenes in this book that are on the page so please check your triggers before reading this book.
I had the absolute honour to co-edit this novella with the author. Always such a privilege when I get asked to view anyone's work ahead of release but to help with the process always makes me emotional.
Now for the book itself, I was really intrigued about Darcey and her story after being kidnapped (by mistake) I knew this was going to be much darker than Songbird (if you haven't read that then I suggest you do) It being darker wasn't an issue for me as I love dark books and I think this had everything I love in my dark romance/captive books.
Darcey grew up in a violent environment so for her witnessing violence (even if it wasn't the same kind of violence) was nothing new to her. Some of the violence on page is quite graphic and I think that adds to the seriousness of the situation Darcey has been put in. Caine is the MMC and he is part of the organisation that is the ones that kidnapped Darcey and he was at the compound where she and the other girls are being kept to be given a girl for his new position in the organisation and he saw Darcey and saw something in her and although she was only 16 when they met and he was over a decade older he knew she was it but he didn't touch her till she was of age as he despite not caring what happens doesn't like young girls himself.
Them as a couple is such a strange dynamic as despite his job and the position he holds Caine is a calming presence and Darcey, well she isn't. They are fire on the page and I live for their chemistry and even with the world they live in their love is pure and when I say pure I mean that they are it for each other and no one could ever come between them.
My only nit-pick would be Darcey's blaming of Billie for the situation she is in. Darcey is happy with her life and logically she has to know that when she was kidnapped by mistake that Billie was the same age so was at no fault, so her blaming Billie in my opinion really showed Darcey's immaturity. My hope is that by the end of this series that, not necessarily that the girls are friends as I don't think that is possible, Darcey understands that what happened was no ones fault but that of the men that got the wrong person and that, while unfortunate, can't be changed now with throwing blame around.
I loved this book from start to finish! It’s unhinged, chaotic, messy – and that’s just the FMC!
I was told it was darker than Songbird and it sure as hell was. I was crying from the first chapter. Gotta love the trauma.
It also answered some of the questions I had after finishing Songbird, so I’d definitely recommend reading this before Bloodlines to get the full picture.
The vibes were giving “what if Klaus and Katherine got together,” and I’m absolutely obsessed..
