This is the second of four books the author provided of his standalone novels for me to read and review.
This is a story centered on three couples and their romantic journeys. While I appreciated the author's ambition in weaving together multiple relationships, I struggled to connect with the characters. Because the narrative divides its attention among several couples, I found that none of them felt fully developed, making it difficult for me to become emotionally invested in their stories.
The dialogue occasionally felt awkward, and the characters often came across as younger and less mature than I had expected. As a result, I never quite understood the romantic connections at the heart of the novel, which made it challenging to root for any of the relationships.
Ultimately, this was a book that simply wasn't the right fit for me. I kept hoping that a particular storyline or character would capture my interest, but I remained at a distance from the narrative throughout. Readers who enjoy ensemble romances and character-driven relationship dramas may have a different experience, but I was left wishing for deeper characterization and stronger emotional connections.
As always, reading is highly subjective, and I may well be an outlier here. While this one wasn't for me, every book finds its readers. I encourage prospective readers to look at a variety of reviews, as my experience may not reflect yours.

Holly! Robert! I love them. A family saga and romance all in one book. I have so many thoughts and feelings on this book. I couldn't have loved it more. One of my favorite parts of the book are the chapters with Jack and Margaret. All I kept thinking when I was reading this was, "This is so funny."

I received a free copy of (IN)FAMOUS as part of a new release giveaway. Let me start off by saying that it made me laugh a lot. Holly Fields is hilarious. In many ways, I feel like she is my "kindred spirit" (an inside joke from the book) and I had fun watching her antics play out.
Overall, I enjoyed this romantic comedy. Essentially, Holly meets Robert and, well, Holly has a brother, Bradley, that falls in love with Robert's sister, Emma. I will stop there so that I don't give any spoilers, but assume chaos reigns when they all go to Napa Valley for Emma and Bradley's wedding when Holly tries to find someone for her mother, Margaret. Five stars all the way.

It was a cute little story, but I couldn’t get past the repetition of conversations. Everyone was repeating themselves and each other. I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again 10 chapters apart.

Holly is an influencer who documents and shares all parts of her average life on social media. She purports to have thousands of followers, who must be bored with their own lives. They watch her get dressed. They watch her eat at Burger King. She posts videos asking strangers if they like her sunglasses. She meets her boyfriend, Robert, through unusual circumstances and they have a long-distance relationship for a few months. The story then fast forwards to later in the year when they’re attending a wedding in Napa Valley. Readers follow their romance, the engaged couple’s relationship, and an interesting situation where Holly sets her mom, Margaret, up with Robert’s Uncle Jack, who is a self-involved ex-football player who has a particular interest in getting drunk with hot, young 20-somethings. I’ll leave it at that so as not to ruin any surprises!
Feels –
I cannot believe that one of the comments on the cover of this book says, “One of the best books of the year.” That had to be written by a friend or family member. I would be disappointed in a college student, maybe even a high schooler, for writing this. Amory somehow gets away with having his characters repeat each other multiple times in the same conversation so that entire pages can consist of the same two sentences said in slightly different ways. In fact, if I had a dollar for every time Amory describes slutty Uncle Jack as “grinning” I could go on a rather nice vacation. Repetition continues throughout the book. That probably contributes to the characters’ lack of growth and my struggle to develop a connection that would make me root for any of them.
I am most disappointed by how immature and insecure the main characters are. Holly’s influencer persona is depressing to me – she reports useless minutiae and asks her followers endless stupid questions, like if she should answer her phone, if she should answer the door, what she should eat, if she should learn a dance, etc.
Most depressing was Holly’s mom, Margaret. She is supposed to be a famous author, but her lack of confidence is astounding. When being set up with Uncle Jack at the Napa Valley wedding, she sees him being a player, flirting with every young woman he comes across, and she judges him. Then just pages later she talks about how hot he is and loses all confidence – “Margaret suddenly felt very nervous. ‘What if he doesn’t like me?’” (p. 181). This is NOT what I would expect from a successful, established woman.
Final Thoughts –
I continue to be amazed at the many positive reviews and ratings that have accumulated for this book. It took me longer than usual to finish it because I disliked the characters due to their lack of personalities and I just didn’t want to spend time with them. I understand some people had the completely opposite experience – this was simply not for me.

(In)famous is a breath of fresh air. Holly, a college student from Boston who vlogs in her spare time, meets Robert, a medical student, at a bar in Chicago when Holly flies in for the weekend for a graduate school interview. A long-distance relationship ensues during the school semester. Later, during winter break, Robert travels to Boston to visit Holly. Robert's sister, Emma, and Holly's brother, Bradley, both residents of Boston, were planning to help Holly show Robert around Boston, but when Holly keeps delaying the meeting, Emma and Bradley unexpectedly hit it off. Later, Emma and Bradley plan to get married in Napa Valley - Holly and Robert, still dating, go and while they are there, Holly tries to play matchmaker and set her mother, Margaret, up with a companion.
Holly, the main character that almost everything revolves around, is important to the appeal of the book. She is likable, funny, flawed, sometimes clumsy and equipped with good intentions as she finds herself at the center of her relationship with Robert Brooks, her new boyfriend, her brother's new relationship with Robert's sister, and potentially a "companion" relationship for her mother, Margaret, as she tries to "fix" her up. Holly has warm comic energy throughout the story and her attempts to navigate both her relationship and her mother's love life leads to some OMG! funny moments.
I also like the feeling of the story. It is fun. It is an American lit major's daydream. It feels like a 'party' in some ways with the playfulness displayed in some of the relationships, but don't be mistaken, it is also deep - there are some deeply meaningful topics that are explored (death, focus on living, family, contemporary dating, digital age, how dating ripples through families), but it is balanced with humor and entertainment. My favorite scenes, without giving any spoilers away, which are serious and fun at the same time, are with Margaret and her potential "companion" while they are Napa Valley. I can see why so many people really like this book. I am one of them.

Holly is a vlogger who is in Chicago for the weekend to interview for grad school. After she's stood up by a blind date, she goes out to a club to meet a friend. While there, she meets med student, Robert. After spending the entire evening together, they realize they want the relationship to continue and try a long distance relationship.
Fast forward a few months and Robert comes to Boston to see Holly. They plan to meet up with her brother (Bradley) and his sister (Emma) for the day, but keep delaying the meet up. That leads to Bradley and Emma unexpectedly spending the day together and getting to know each other.

I didn't really care for the first one, but thought I would give him another shot, since other people really seem to like him. While I liked this book more, this author's style just really isn't for me.

In this story, we follow three couples, led by Holly Fields and Robert Brooks, a college student and a medical student, who are newly girlfriend/boyfriend. This was a really well-crafted story. I loved the writing, the humor, the banter, the family drama! It was just so great. I couldn't put it down.
Why did I love this book so much? It's because it's more than just a romantic story. It's a pull-no-punches family drama where Holly is trying to run her own relationship with Robert and her mother's love life at the same time!! Holly is not a perfect character, but to me she's perfect. She's the type of girl who is going through college and looking at graduate schools and is trying to date on the side while staying active. I deeply resonated with her character. She is also honest and funny and is trying to be a good sister, girlfriend and daughter.
Jack and Margaret are amazing together. They are so much alike and so different, which makes for their great chemistry. From their awkwardness to their mutual attraction to the brutal honesty they have about life and death and family go hand-in-hand with the optimism and hope for the future. Can Margaret trust Jack with her heart? Is Jack just looking for a fun weekend? I can see the hype around this book.

Holly, Margaret make this story what it is. A daughter and a mother that find themselves in the middle of sticky situations - some by their own doings. They stand out as being much better written than most of the characters you're used to reading about, especially in romantic comedies. Holly is strong-willed, determined and filled with good intentions, which is so relatable. It is impossible not to love her and what she tries to do throughout the story.
Margaret is referred to as a "good sport" throughout the chaos. And she is. She is a good mother, you can tell, and she cares for her family. Yes, she has been dealt a hard draw of cards lately, but she is trying to overcome it. Together, as a team, Holly and Margaret, there is magic.
Robert, who is Holly's boyfriend, is educated, funny and is a good match for Holly. Jack, who we meet later, steals the show. Too many spoilers involve him so I will tread carefully with anything I say about him. Just know that he is downright funny and honest, as he says, "to a fault." This story is about couples at different stages in their lives navigating modern love and the contemporary dating culture as they find their place in this world (amid a web of family dynamics). Holly, the main character, is in her early twenties and she has a vlog that she shoots with her camera as a hobby while she finishes college. She meets Robert (a medical student), who complements her flaws, which makes them a good pair. There are two other main romantic relationships that occur amid generational conflicts (Holly tries to find a companion for her mother) and sibling entanglements (Holly's brother falls in love with Robert's sister).
While easy to read, the author has seamlessly developed complex characters dealing with societal expectations and generational conflicts. There are emotionally raw emotional undertones to the story (Margaret is dealing with loss and death and is trying to overcome it), which balances the fun, sophisticated observational humor and genuine romantic comedy elements.

After I read Hi Pretty Girl, Bye Pretty Girl (which I thought was very enjoyable and funny), I wanted to see what else the author wrote and I discovered (IN)FAMOUS. And I am glad I did. The author has a good knack for writing strong lead female leads (Catherine in Hi Pretty Girl and, now, Holly, in (IN)FAMOUS). First of all, I absolutely loved this story. It is a well-written romantic comedy. Holly Fields is super smart, self-realized to a degree and independent. She meets Robert Brooks at a night club in Chicago during a friend's birthday celebration and they start a long distance relationship (she goes to college in Boston and Robert is in medical school in Chicago). And that is just the start of it.
Overall, it delivers on romance, comedy and entertainment. I have to say that I love Jack's character. Although in the story, Jack says that Harold is a scene stealer, it is really Jack. He is so funny. And great fun.

(In)famous is a romantic-comedy drama with an electric lead character in Holly Fields. All of the action in the story revolves around her decisions and determination to find love for herself. And eventually for her mother, Margaret. She is sharp and her boyfriend, Robert, who she meets at a birthday get together at a club in Chicago, moves the first part of the story. When Robert comes to visit Holly in Boston during winter break (they started a long-distance relationship), this leads to their siblings meeting each other and falling in love.
A year later - at a wedding (for their siblings), Holly leads the story as she tries to find someone to fix her mother up with. This introduces us to Jack, a former professional football player, who also is Jack's uncle. He is charming and so, so funny. Margaret and Jack are a whole lot of fun - there are both lol and omg moments as they get to know each other.

Daniel Amory, who wrote the books Hi Pretty Girl, Bye Pretty Girl and The Lion in the Colosseum, both of which I liked, wrote this story, which concerns itself with values and love. The characters are all likeable too. Nobody is a villain - only people who make mistakes in the name of love.

I heard great things about (In)famous. And it was funny. There are three central storylines led by Holly Fields. Holly is a college student and a vlogger. Robert Brooks is a medical student from Chicago. He meets Holly. And they start dating. Long distance. She is from Boston and he is in Chicago. When he visits her during class winter break, his sister (Emma) meets Holly's brother (Bradley). They hit it off. A year later, Emma and Bradley are getting married in Napa Valley. This is the scene where Holly attempts, as the author says, "to manage her mother's love life." And she does. By setting her up with Robert's uncle, Jack Warner, a former professional football player.
In its heart of hearts, this is a romantic comedy that is sweet, heartfelt and funny, but it is also an adventure, a coming-of-age story with elements of a satire on the modern dating world and celebritydom.

Holly Fields is very funny as a high-energy, bubbly, natural free-spirit psychology college student/part-time vlogger. Thank you to the author and publisher; I received this book in a giveaway for its release. It was fantastic. Holly Fields is incredibly funny and driven and her undeniable chemistry with Robert is very charming. Emma and Bradley are so, so much fun too. Jack Warner is endlessly entertaining in his own right - so funny, so honest - highly amusing. And Margaret is intelligent and hilarious.
The story is fun from the opening line. And masterfully written. The dialogue throughout the book is intelligent, witty and hilarious. And the ending is fun, wild and with so much heart. Heart is really what guides this story. Overall, a delightful comedy romance that has you traveling to different cities, laughing and entertained. An excellent book!

I enjoyed the adventures and misadventures of Holly and Margaret in this mother-daughter literary comedy gem that captures 21st century dating life. As Holly navigates her relationship with Robert, her new boyfriend (who perfectly complements her), she attempts to find love for her mother, which drives the comedy and romance.
Throughout the story, there is sophisticated humor, social criticism, witty dialogue and the serious exploration of underlying modern relationship themes as the characters manage timing and emotional risk across geographic locations. Some of the themes are love, loss, death, grace under pressure, social class, societal norms and multi-generational family dynamics. A simple premise with lol moments, (In)famous is a fun story that delivers on all levels. The author, Daniel Amory, weaves the three storylines together by playing one off another. The universal lessons and vivid characterizations offer a timeless look at a new couple (Holly and Robert) as they struggle through the initial stages of a new relationship. Holly, spirited and optimistic, tries, entertainingly, to move her relationship with Robert, a more straight and narrow opposite of Holly, forward and she later gets involved with fixing her mother up during the wedding weekend of her brother (who is marrying Robert's sister) who happens to be a former professional football player and this is great for terrific comedy.

There was romance, comedy, playfulness and drama in this exploration of the "puppy love" phase in relationships.
The story was high-energy as the bubbly, passionate Holly Fields gave on-camera vlog narration and off-camera traditional, first-person narration. Robert Brooks, a little hesitant about everything that came with Holly (including her vlog) as they started dating, added the perfect complement.

The real star of this book may be Margaret. As Holly tries to fix her up at a wedding with the sporty uncle of her boyfriend, Robert, things kind of go....as planned? It is funny. And Holly is funny. And she is smart. And she gets in over her head. And brings her mother with her. And Robert. And everyone else. The set-up is Chicago where Holly meets Robert. We then go to Boston, where we meet Holly's family. And then Napa, where Bradley (Holly's brother) and Emma's (Robert's sister) wedding is. This story is a lot of fun.

Holly and Margaret are a fun mother-daughter duo in this story. Overall, I think it was well done. Three generational romance comedy dramas are all part of the story and come together in the layered family dynamics. I thought it was very funny. I laughed out loud several times. And what can I say about Jack? He was an interesting character and funny too. You will certainly enjoy the story as it plays out with some twists and turns along the way.

I enjoyed the book. It was fun to read. The author is mildly funny. There definitely times where I stepped back and realized I wasn't super enjoying it, but the "plotline" is good enough to get me to finish (no, not like THAT). I'd recommend it as a library book or a cheap e-read, but I wouldn't reserve a spot on my bookshelf for a physical copy.

(In)famous is a fun romantic comedy with strong emotional undertones that blend EXCELLENTLY together. I laughed out loud all the way through. Holly always seems to find herself in these sticky situations (some of her own doing)...she is very likable and tries hard, but things go awry at times. Margaret is a caring mother who is a good sport throughout it all. Very entertaining and amusing.

It was a cute rom-com book. Almost felt like reading a script as a significant part was dialog of individual characters (this is meant to be a positive statement). As such it flowed quickly and smoothly until the end with a interesting twist. Surprised the ending was more abrupt than anticipated with the number of directions it could have took. Fun read!!
