I'm now convinced after reading this collection of mad and psychotic teddy bear tales that I need to seriously seek some kind of medical treatment for myself.

This crude and disturbing book about cute little furry teddies played with my mind, my heart and my childhood memories of my favourite bear called Edward who now sits quietly on my bed in his old age 🧸🐻

The nasty "Buttons" Bear was an evil and nasty serial killer...Who's now on the loose!! I feel some sleepless nights coming on with my duty to protect my beloved Edward!!😟

All the stories in this collection held their own conclusions...but don't be fooled by these sweet stuffed toys!!

Taking one of childhood’s most comforting and affectionate toys, this book gives it a thoroughly wicked makeover. The bears inhabiting these stories are scheming, destructive, jealous and occasionally murderous.

What makes the collection work is the authors' commitment to its wonderfully ridiculous premise. The stories wander freely through horror, black comedy, romance and outright absurdity. One moment is gruesome, the next surprisingly affectionate, and another so bizarre that the only sensible response is to laugh.

The appalling behaviour of previously innocent and comforting characters gives the anthology its distinctive personality. There is considerable imagination behind the chaos, and the authors clearly enjoy pushing each situation beyond the limits of good taste and common sense.

The variety keeps the book lively, and its short-story format makes it easy to dip into whenever a quick dose of mischief is required.

Definitely unsuitable for bedtime reading, this read is ideal for book lovers who enjoy dark humour, unconventional horror and stories that refuse to be on good behaviour.

The first story in this collection is "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Grudge." It reads like a fictionalized documentary. It had a crude humor to it, which I liked. The next story is "The Squishiest Killer." This story was told in broad strokes. It too had a fictionalized documentary feel, but there was some immersion into the main character's perspective. It felt like it needed to keep going when it ended. The next story is called "The Bear Club." It's a mixture of gore and comedy. There are a lot of rapid perspective shifts and sometimes an omnipresent narrator. This book is filled with sexual and violent humor. As a fan of this type of fiction, I loved that part. It was a bit tarnished by the rapid shifts in perspective and omnipresent narration halting immersion, though. Still, I found it entertaining and would recommend it to lovers of this type of humor.

What a very strange book, did I enjoy it... I´m honestly not sure. I sort of did, but then it is very, very strange. It is well written. I can only imagine the authors are a pair of goths (Am I right?) because this to me had a very Goth feel to it. Okay, yes, I enjoyed it. Good read, but I will never look at a teddy bear in the same way again!
