He’s the grumpiest firefighter in Maple Falls… and I can’t stay away.
I’m a journalist who never backs down from a story. Covering a simple firefighter event should be easy. Until Derek Vaughn shuts me out with his brooding silence and stormy blue-gray eyes.
He’s infuriating. Impossible to read. And far too tempting to ignore.
Every encounter sparks more tension… sharp words, stolen glances, a rescue that leaves me breathless.
Beneath his tough exterior, I glimpse the man he’s desperate to hide… and the closer I get, the harder it is to resist him.
Can I break through Derek’s walls and show him that some flames are impossible to resist?
The Grumpy Firefighter is a short, sweet, and steamy small-town instalove romance with a happy-ever-after. It can be read as a standalone or together with the rest of the books in the Maple Fire Department.
Violet is curious, brave, and unwilling to take no for an answer. She’s a journalist who’s seen it all, until she meets Derek Vaughn, Maple Falls’ most guarded firefighter. He’s all grit and grumble, the kind of man who wears his scars like armor and keeps the world at a distance. But when Violet steps into his orbit, all that self-control starts to crack.
What begins as snarky banter and stubborn clashes slowly turns into something that feels real and raw. Beneath Derek’s gruff exterior is a man who’s been burned one too many times—by loss, by duty, by the weight of expectations. Violet doesn’t just challenge him; she sees him. And the way he finally lets her in? Utterly breathtaking.
The chemistry between them is pure tension—lingering looks, close calls, and emotional sparks that make every scene feel alive. But what really stands out is the heart behind it all: the healing, the trust, the idea that love doesn’t fix you, it frees you.

-A charming small-town romance set in Maple Falls where heat meets heart. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Violet’s curiosity disarms Derek’s grumpy defenses with sparks flying from the start. Their push-and-pull banter turns into a slow, steamy burn worth the wait.
A story of healing, protection, and love that ignites in the most unexpected place.
