Now, with the ink barely dry on his multimillion-dollar contract with my father’s Miami team, Xander has no idea I’m his new physical therapist.
He thinks this is a fresh start. Instead, he’s walking straight into his past.
Don’t miss Xander and Tara’s story in A Game of Deception—an unforgettable standalone in the Scottish Billionaires saga.
The way this book genuinely took me on a ROLLERCOASTER of emotions…
Let me break this down
The Plot: I’m ngl, this was interesting asf and there were several parts where I was genuinely shocked. There weren’t many moments where I could predict each outcome, and i love to have that in a book. Even though you KNOW what is the truth and what happens, the way that the characters navigate their way through it is a thrilling journey
The ANGST: god 😭😭😭 this is what truly had me crashing out the whole book because i felt so truly and wholly bad for Xander for the majority of the book. He was empathy farming i SWEAR. Tara obviously also had angst but i definitely had moments where I was yelling at her for being weird (during the 3rd act scandal??? like why’d you get so mad at xander when you know damn well its your dad starting drama 😒. I wished Xander used his backbone and mentioned that stalking board bruh like he let go of ts too fast like two pages aint enough)
Xander: Xander is our MMC and he’s basically a boyfailure 😭 There were some moments where I wanted him to call out Tara’s crap but its in character for him to not want to ruin anything, since he’s still wallowing in guilt obviously. But, still, i KIND of wished he had a bit more resistance/a backbone in the later part where Tara comes back to talk to him abt the main conflict w/o a proper discussion about what happened. I liked his character a lot, he’s definitely the type of guy to be a good person even if everything paints him out to not be. He’s not a “bad boy”, literally has very clear morals and sees the good in everyone LOL like i would notttt have saved Diego if i were him. One of the few times I think a main character may be the best character in their book (but Leo was a G, #loyal bestie).
Also, Xander is so caring it’s so cute how he was talking to those teens/kids in the epilogue 🥹🥹
Tara: Tara is the FMC and she’s a baddie in stem 💪 I honestly really liked her character even tho in the other parts of the review i probably complained about her. I liked the clinical, serious, and obsessive personality she had a LOT, it’s a personality seen sometimes in MMCs but very very rarely in FMCs. It’s like a professional black cat type??? Idk how to describe it, but she reminds me a lot of Sloane Kensington from King of Sloth by Ana Huang. I feel like its probably because of the reverse sunshine x grumpy dynamic tho (but i dont think it is because xander’s not very sunshine, at least imo. Hes jjust a bebeh 🥺). Also VERY faintly reminds me of Lana from the Mindf*ck Series by S.T Abby (but obvi Lana’s better, sorry). Anyways, I Love the dynamic between her and the villain (her father), like it’s very clear through her subtle manipulation and the way she thinks about Xander in the beginning that she was brainwashed by her dad. And as she progressed through the book, she had SO much character development. I loved seeing her journey and honestly it was so cute to see her finally let Xander into her heart. Most FMCs are portrayed super emotional-typs, and while I relate to that, i LOVE seeing more logical, professional type FMCs.
The CONFLICT/Villain: So, as I said before, the plot greatly intrigued me. And the angst is obviously caused by the conflict. The main issue is the death of Jimmy, Tara’s older brother and Xander’s best friend. He died in a car accident with Xander in the car, Xander being blamed for the death because he was drunk. Tara is led to believe that Xander was drunk driving, which caused him to kill her brother. But, this didn’t seem like enough to stop her fat childhood crush on him, since apparently at her brother’s funeral she had a moment where she almost kissed Xander, to which Xander stopped before he could and promptly took the first soccer league that wanted him in somewhere in ireland or something i kidn of forgot. So, like, she’s more angry about him leaving her, but then it kind of also cumulates in her also blaming Xander for killing Jimmy, since she’s led to believe that Xander was driving by the vague police report and her manipulative father.
SPEAKING of her father (Hank), this guy had a many moments, and all of them he’s being a conniving manipulative dictator (😨!!!). On a serious note, I actually really liked him as a villain, even tho having a parent be a villain is VERY overdone in romance books, but tbf the plot in this novel was way better than the majority of contemporary romances. You could see his manipulation, and as Tara has been raised to be a manipulator by the man himself, his intentions are told directly in her POV. I don’t usually like seeing telling vs showing, but it’s nice since it compares to how Xander feels mildly uncomfortable but pretty unaware when conversing with Hank. It shows how it takes a manipulator to know a manipulator.
Improvements: No book is perfect, and this def isn’t an exception. So here’s a rundown on the main things i have gripes with! • Xander’s “close-knit” family only being mentioned in the latter middle for plot reasons • I think the romance could’ve definitely had some improvements. I wish we got to see moments from when Tana and Xander were younger. • Like the childhood crush moments, i wish there were moments from both Tana and Xander about Jimmy • Less sex, more romance • Tana should’ve been dominant in bed…💔
Overall, I’d give this book a solid 4.5 out of 5, but i’ll round it up to 5 because i’m so kind and also because i greatly enjoyed this 🙏

Game of Deception is the next book in the Scottish Billionaires series and is outstanding🙌
Xander is a professional soccer player and his team drops him after a bar fight. He is immediately snapped up by another team, but the owner and the head of sports medicine within the company are what shocks him.
Tara is the head of sports medicine and she has been obsessed with Xander for years…ever since he left after her brother’s death…his best friend. But it turns out she’s obsessed for a reason. But it becomes clear that her reasons for being obsessed differ to those of her father….what do they both have planned?
A cunning and duplicitous story which will keep you on the edge of your seat…absolutely loved it and hoping we have more books in this series coming our way soon🤞 I received an advanced copy via Booksprout and voluntarily leave my honest review❣️

There is intense attraction between these two and steam that will make you swoon.
This book is so good!! It is so layered, lots of background story, strong characters, suspense, secrets, redemption, and tempting chemistry. I cannot say enough about it. Xander and Tara have history together, he was her brother's best friend, but left after the card crash that cost his best friend's accident -he feels guilty as he was the reason they were on the road-. He left and through the years became a famous and rich soccer player, but is dropped by his current team, and Tara's father hires him to part of his soccer team in Miami. Once he arrives, he discovers that Tara is the therapist and she is still keeping tabs on him for different reasons. HEre is where the story starts to twist in a great way, as they deal with their proximity, they also find out that the accident might have been provoked. The tension, the undelining chemistry, and the need for revenge and redemption are layered beautifully in his book!.

What an awesome read as Zander and Tara were reunited after twelve years apart. He left town fairly quickly after the death of his bestfriend and her brother, Jimmy, since he felt responsible for the accident. Even being teenagers they felt a strong attraction to each other and almost kissed the day of the funeral. Now all this time has passed with Zander becoming a famous soccer player that had just joined a team in Miami, Florida. He did not know that team was predominantly owned by Jimmy's father or that Tara was the team doctor. Zander knew he was in trouble, but just how much trouble he was not sure. Jimmy's father was out for revenge anyway he could manage it. Tara wanted revenge too, but she seemed to see a different side of Zander when she saw him again. An edge of your chair action packed read, as I never knew what was going to happen next. There were so many twist and turns Jimmy's father really was a piece of work. This book does come with a warning for a reason.

A Game of Deception by M.S. Parker tells the story of childhood friends, Tara and Xander, twelve years after a fatal car crash. Tara's father has contracted with troubled soccer player Xander to join his team in Miami. His daughter Tara is the team physical therapist. Xander left after his best friend, Tara's brother died in a car accident while driving him home when he was drunk. He has been punishing himself ever since. In the meantime, Tara has been obsessed with following him and his career. While the two become romantically involved, they begin to discover that the facts of the accident are not quite accurate. In the meantime, Tara's father, Hank, is manipulating things behind the scenes to control their relationship. This is a well written story with engaging characters and a good plot. M.S. Parker continues to do a great job of crafting a story in which to immerse yourself.

This is my favorite book in this series! There's so many twists and turns!
Xander and Jimmy were best friends growing up, but one fatal night Jimmy was killed in a car accident when Xander and him were together. Xander had been drunk and had no idea what happened but thought he'd been driving. That tragedy of him killing his best friend because he made a stupid decision has haunted him for years.
Fast forward 12 years and Xander is a famous soccer player and bad boy that stays in trouble. He winds up on a team in Miami. At the team welcome meeting, he finds out Hank Swanson owns the team and the team Dr. is none other than Tara Swanson....Jimmy's father and sister. Oh boy, is this going to be good!
This was such a great story! Loved the characters and the story line kept me on the edge, not wanting to pu the book down! Things are not always what you think or believe!
At 17, Xander MaCrae, a talented but party-loving soccer player, attends a fateful party with his best friend Jimmy. Drunk and unable to drive, Xander lets Jimmy take the wheel, leading to a tragic accident that claims Jimmy’s life. Overwhelmed by guilt, Xander blames himself. At Jimmy’s funeral, his sister Tara, who’s always been drawn to Xander, nearly kisses him. Unable to cope, Xander leaves home to pursue a professional soccer career. Meanwhile, Tara and her father, believing Xander caused the accident, vow revenge. Years later, Xander signs a lucrative contract with a Miami soccer team, unaware of the owner’s identity—a revelation that shakes him. The story unfolds with gripping twists and a satisfying ending.

An unbelievable story of love, and betrayal come full circle! I feel for Xander as he unsuccessfully tries to bury his past of his best friend’s death in high school that he feels responsible for. As his time playing soccer overseas comes to an end, a new opportunity opens in Miami, so when he discovers the owner and physical therapy doctor are none other than his best friend’s father and sister, Tara, he feels played. Yet as he works through the days, the electricity between Tara and him won’t be denied. Add in the determination to discover the truth of her brother’s death, leads them on a strange twisted tail that you won’t see coming. But Tara’s father is on a revenge match that leaves Tara reeling and potentially Xander alone to face his demons. How will it all end? You have to read to find out!
Xander is a party guy with some serious baggage! For twelve years he has carried his troubled soul along with his talents at soccer to more places than he cares to count. Now he’s back in the states..Miami to be exact, far from California where it all started. He was bought by a new team and he doesn’t even know who owns him.
Tara has waited for twelve years to get her revenge on the man she believes killed her brother and ran away from her. She has it all planned out. It’s just a matter of time before she can watch him fall.
What happens when Xander and Tara discover that they have been played? Will both their worlds come crashing down or will they be able to put all the pieces together and and come out on top.
This is a wonderful book to spend your reading on! Sit down, relax and enjoy the hurricane that is about to hit Miami.

A GAME OF DECEPTION has an interesting premise that seems a little hard to believe at first. A man creates a professional soccer team with is daughter as the head of sports medicine and acquires a troubled top player he happens to believe is responsible for his son’s death.
So in short order we are willing to be convinced that this is not only true, but it is part of some dark scheme on which we keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. The team owner is suspiciously polite, the daughter obsessed, and the star athlete coming off years of self-punishment.
I enjoyed the early copy of this book for the steamy romance, the plot twists, and even for the secondary characters like Leo.
A Game of Deception - Character Assassination, lost love
Xander's life is basically going down the pan, when he is suddenly offered a contract to extract him from Chelsea to Miami. Thinking it's all too good to be true, and then finding out that the club is owned by his deceased best friend's father and his daughter, Tara. Cancer always carried the guilt of Jimmy's accident, but he didn't realise that Tara thought the he was driver of the vehicle, not a passenger. Lots of subterfuge and deception, a gripping story, where love overcomes all.
Tara has had a crush on Xander who her brother's best friend for is as long as she can remember. When her brother is killed, Xander is devastated and leaves everything he knows to play soccer in Scotland. Circumstances bring the two together as Tara is now a physical therapist for her father's soccer team. They are forced to be together when Xander joins the team, and they finally realize that they were destined to be together.

This book had a little bit of everything. Family drama, mystery, romance, self discovery and HEA.
The two main characters were well developed, believable and kept me interested. The plot went beyond romance and explored guilt, grief and the damage combining those with years of secrets and uncertainty can do.
Amidst all of that, these two found truth, resilience, love, themselves and each other. I enjoyed every minute.

A Game of Deception: The Scottish Billionaires by M.S. Parker is a steamy, fast-paced romance that blends intrigue, passion, and betrayal against the lush backdrop of Scotland’s elite. The story follows a fierce heroine entangled in a world of secrets as she navigates the magnetic pull of a mysterious billionaire with his own hidden agenda. Parker delivers twists that keep the reader guessing while weaving in sizzling chemistry and emotional tension. It's an addictive read for fans of romance with a touch of danger and deception.
A Game of Deception is the sixteenth book in The Scottish Billionaires and an awesome addition to a fantastic series. This is a sort of second chance romance between Tara and Xander. Their story is a page turner that sucks you deep into the abyss and keeps you there early into the morning...so just be prepared not to sleep much while you are reading this book. I absolutely loved this swirled passion, romance, second chances, new beginnings, lost love, betrayal, intimacy, and conspiracy that is this story.
Oh my.. Storyline is interesting and exciting so much more than just good story. It’s a lot will grab you from the first page and you will be turning pages. It’s a lot of drama and angst. From friends to enemies to lovers. Uncovering the past that damaged them both. Is it revenge or not ? Did plotting against bringing the truth or another heartbreak ? So,please don’t plan anything while you reading this story, it’s a page turner.

I don’t know if this author actually reviews what she wrote. In the early chapters, Chloe, Tara’s best friend and accompanied by soccer hero Xander, invites them to her gallery opening of her work. Later in the book, 2/3 of the way, the 3 of them are having lunch and Xander asks if Chloe is an artist, as he’d never met her before. Tara launches into an explanation of how well known Chloe is and recently had a successful gallery show. Really? Tara’s character’s feelings were so redundant. We get it, okay?!
A great story of loss, love, revenge and betrayal. A young woman has been in love with her brothers best friend, and he’s also the one everyone blames for her brother’s death. A captivating story filled emotions as these meet again, instantly attracted to each other, but can history keep them apart or bring them closer together? A well told story crafted in detail that will keep you engaged. It’s a fast read and just one more in this series with its own twists and turns.
An untimely death leads to revenge, betrayal, lies, and manipulation. A loss of memory in which he can’t forgive himself and a love that is long over due.
Happy Reading📖🌻.

Dr Swanson was obsessed with Xander since she was a teenager and was working on comforting him for something that left them both scarred. The issue was her father was a very influential man who generally orchestrated those around him as his puppets including both her and Xander making it difficult to know what was real and what was not. Overall good story and great characters.

This is the emotional story of Xander and Tara, two people who share a tragic past but who handled it completely different. When fate steps in and brings them together years later, they have to navigate the unspoken guilt, anger, and heartbreak from the past before they can work towards a future. Plenty of emotion, plenty of love, a little spice, and a HEA.

This story about Xander McCrae might be my favorite. It was definitely a tale of survival, watching McCrae deal with his own version of hell. It was fraught with love, lessons, family, enemies, distrust, and facing the truth. Being a great soccer player isn't all life can give, but it teaches you lessons every day, and it is wise to listen. Fabulous read!
I enjoyed this book so much that I stayed up all night reading it. This is an unforgettable addition in the Scottish Billionaires series.
