Sequel to A Sister's Sacrifice. Book 2 and final book in the Family Ties Series.
When the distressing shadows of war fall across Europe, Olivia Brodie watches the man she loves, Captain Spencer Middleton, lead his men proudly to the front, his final words a promise to return. Left behind among the working-class neighbours she calls family, Olivia clings to hope as the world around her changes forever. Her spirited younger brother, Lachie, eager to prove himself, enlists underage—his letters home filled with bravado and dreams of glory. Before long, Olivia realises she is carrying Spencer’s child and then devastating news arrives from France, leaving her heartbroken. Olivia leans on her neighbours for strength, especially the mother-like figure of Tess. In a time when the future feels as fragile as the lives lost to war, Olivia must find the courage to protect the life growing within her and to believe that love can endure even through the darkest days. Will Spencer return to her? Or will the promise of a future remain only a dream whispered across the fields of poppies?
Set against the sweeping backdrop of World War I and the unbreakable spirit of England’s home front, Where the Poppies Dance is a powerful tale of love, loss, and a young woman’s fight to keep hope alive when all seems lost.
Australian born AnneMarie Brear writes historical novels and modern romances and sometimes the odd short story, too. Her passions, apart from writing, are travelling, reading, researching historical eras and looking for inspiration for her next book. https://www.facebook.com/annemariebrear http://www.annemaribrear.com
I read both books about the story of these families. The history of how being from different social classes is described in the book. Fortunately the characters in the books overcame the difficulties. The descriptions of the war and tragic loss of so many young men was so sad. Thankfully by the end of the book, the war is over. I enjoyed both books very much.
Another work of brilliance from AnneMarie. Once again I couldn’t put this book down.
Following Olivia’s story, I laughed, I cried, I felt despair but I felt love with every character. Former characters were skilfully incorporated in this story with ease.
I can’t wait for Book 3 and continue Olivia’s story in Australia. ❤️
Amazing read such a brilliant follow on from a sister's sacrifice. To continue reading about Olivia's life struggles with family. Such a page turner and it dragged me making me feel I was there. I'd love another book about their new lives and discover what happens with Mildred. I suppose then the suspense would be gone and still be left wanting more
I loved everything about this story. It had everything, passion, sorrow especially during the war years when families that I had begun to feel apart of in this book,we're nearly destroyed themselves with the deep felt loss of their sons and brothers killed in a senseless war.Like so many others they will never be forgotten. P.D I wish there was a book 3!
