Broken Ties by Jeanetta Sneed is a heavy and emotional story that explores identity, trauma, and personal growth.

The book follows a young gay teenager dealing with a deeply difficult home life—constant arguments, a father struggling with alcoholism, and ongoing bullying at school. It paints a raw picture of what she’s going through and how isolating that experience can be.

What stood out to me was the transformation that happens when she runs away. It’s like watching a completely different version of her emerge—stronger and more in control of her life.

However, the story takes a very dark turn when she decides to stand up for herself and is met with extreme violence. That moment highlights just how dangerous her situation truly was and adds another layer of emotional weight to the story.

While I appreciated the journey and the depth of what the author explored, I did find myself wanting a bit more from the ending in terms of closure.

Overall, a powerful and difficult read that touches on trauma, resilience, and finding your voice.

Stacey is a strong female character who is determined to live her life as she wants. She runs off and starts a new life. She learns that lying doesn't get you very far.

I enjoyed this book, I was shocked to see how it unfolded and a little bummed she didn't end up back with Kelsey or that they didn't get a reunion after the trauma but the story flowed well and it made you be grateful for the life you are given.

I would recommend this to people!
