From medical secretary to court reporter to property manager to owner of a special events decorating company, my resume reads as if I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. But one thing that has remained constant through the years is my love for writing. I currently pen fun and fast-paced inspirational romance and romantic suspense stories. My books have won several awards and been nominated for two RITA® awards and an RT Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Award.
After spending most of my life in Florida, a few years ago, I moved to the mountains of North Carolina, where I write my stories outside on the back deck in the summertime and inside in front of the fireplace in the wintertime. When I’m not writing or doing writerly things, I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking—almost anything outdoors. My two grown daughters and grandkids live too far away for my liking, so I now pour all that nurturing into taking care of two sassy black cats.
I was given a download of this book from the author to welcome me to her newsletter. This is a prequel for the Cedar Key series. I am looking forward to reading the series. I got hooked with the area and characters. This novella starts off action packed in the first scene and continues for the whole time. Sydney Wilson lets her friend, Bambi, talk her into going with her to a boat docked in a marina where she left her bracelets in the bathroom on the sink. She took them off to wash her hands when she was on the boat with the owner. What should have been a quick in and out to retrieve her items turned into a deadly event. The two stumbled upon a situation where a man was taken onto the boat by two men holding him at gunpoint while they were in the bath looking for the bracelets. He had witnessed something that he wasn't supposed to and they, along with the boat owner, took the boat out into the gulf to get rid of the man. Unbeknownst to the bad guys, Sydney and Bambi were hiding in the bathroom. Bambi got scared and ran out to jump out of the front of the boat when they shot the man. Unfortunately, she was next. Sydney crept out of the back to jump out but her purse got caught on a door jamb and she was discovered. She managed to escape and jump out of the boat but not before she was shot in the shoulder. She hid under the water and surfaced for a quick breath of air until the men left but not before she overheard them say that they would watch out for police reports to try to get to her if she lived. She was able to yell for help and someone heard her. Wade Tanner is a local firefighter and part time police officer and was on Cedar Key Fire Rescue boat duty with co worker, Joe Stearn, when the call came through. They pulled Sydney to safety and on to the dock for an ambulance ride to the hospital. Sydney is afraid of the men coming for her and talks Wade into helping her out. She is without anyone, money or credit cards since her purse stayed on the boat. The adventure starts off from there as Sydney's life is in danger beginning with a male nurse at the hospital. This is a wild, fast paced ride and the beginning of the series that I am looking forward to reading.
I really love Carol Post's books and this novella prequel is no exception. Mystery/suspense and romance...what more could you ask for? And the characters, I loved them. And of course I love Cedar Key, Florida. The first time I read a book with that setting I got on the internet and looked it up. Believe me before I leave this world I want to visit this place. I highly recommend this book. Deadly Getaway was gifted to me by the Author with no requirement for a review. All views stated are my own.
I enjoyed this little story. However, although this is a prequel, it seems to need a prequel. I would have liked to have had more background about how the group of friends met. It also bothered me that the main character did not seem to be all that bothered about her best friend dying. I read the Kindle edition and it was difficult to tell when the scenes changed within a chapter and chapter divisions did not start on a new page. This seemed to create a problem with continuity. With a little more character development and polish this could have been better than it was.
I loved this book. Carol did a fantastic job on details. I live in chiefland it's about 30 mins from cedar key, as i was reading I could picture being down there. I absolutely love cedar key it a little Fishermen cove island it's a peaceful place... I can't wait to read the other books in this series!!!
This is one of those books that I couldn't put down after I had started it.. Following Sydney's story took me on a roller coaster ride with lots of twists and turns and lots of action and suspense that kept me reading to see what could possibly happen next. It kept me guessing and had an ending I certainly wasn't expecting. I definitely will be reading more by this author.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
Sydney and her friend want to spend a few relaxing days away from the city, so they come to Cedar Key. Relaxing is about the last thing they do as danger finds them. Read on to find out what they manage to get themselves into and how the danger follows them.
Plenty of danger, suspense and a little romance. What a great way to start a new series! Received through the author, these thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Carol did it again. The suspense is high and the reader can't put the book down until the end then you want more. This one is also a wait and see who the killer is. The reader can not figure out who the bad guys are. The romance is there but not as vivid as in the other book I read. Again Carol thank you for the page turning adventure.
I absolutely loved this story and cannot wait to read the next one. Being from a small town not far from Cedar Key just added to my enjoyment. You will really enjoy the people of Cedar Key in this story.
