I picked this up expecting a light, summery romance, and for the most part, it was exactly that—Nantucket, sunshine, playful flirtation, and Connor, who really does deserve a medal for being this patient, kind, and quietly devoted.

Moments like this…

“Livvy, I could go a week without sleep and still not be too tired to spend an evening with you”

“You should never not feel attractive, wanted, desired… Anyone who’s made you feel less than that didn’t deserve to share the same air as you.”

…genuinely made me smile. Connor’s heart is just so steady and giving in a way that makes you want to protect him. He truly elevates the story.

The book isn’t just romance, either. There’s a strong theme about career versus happiness. Olivia’s journey of learning to let go of rigid control and consider what really matters beyond work is meaningful.

That said… Olivia tested me. 😭😭 She’s very focused on her career, and it took a long time for her to show any real growth. For over half the book, I found her frustrating, self-focused, & so oblivious to Connor’s consistency and care. She does come around eventually, and the payoff works, but getting there felt slow and occasionally exhausting. 🫩🫩

I will say, Connor’s devotion & persistence makes him impossible not to adore, and it’s clear the story works best when the focus is on him.

I really loved the epilogue. It felt warm, satisfying, and a perfect way to close the book after the slow build. It’s one of my favorite parts for sure. 👏🏼

Overall, this was a cute read with sweet moments and meaningful themes, but Olivia’s initial selfishness held it back from being truly exceptional for me. 😔 Connor carries the heart of the story, and the emotional payoff eventually does land… it just takes a bit to get there.

I ultimately landed on a 3-star rating for A Nantucket Fling, though if I’m being honest, that feels a bit generous. In my personal rating system, two stars usually means “not great,” and while this book wasn’t terrible, it never quite rose above average.

One of the strongest draws for me was the Nantucket setting. Having grown up in New England, I have a deep affection for coastal summers, and I was excited for a story that captured that atmosphere. Unfortunately, the setting ended up being more appealing than the story itself.

Much of the narrative centers on Olivia’s fixation on her age and Connor being “so young.” At 39, Olivia is hardly old. She’s still very much in the midst of her adult life, and the repeated emphasis on this age gap felt exaggerated rather than compelling. A larger age difference might have created more meaningful tension, but here it came across as forced and overly repetitive.

Neither main character fully worked for me. Olivia wasn’t a particularly engaging or sympathetic female lead, and Connor’s motivations felt shallow, often coming across as primarily physical rather than emotionally driven. The novel seems unsure of its own identity: it isn’t presented as a steamy romance, yet it frequently skirts that territory, while also lacking the warmth, humor, or emotional depth that would make it a satisfying romantic fiction.

Without strong romantic chemistry or comedic elements, the story struggled to find its footing. In the end, A Nantucket Fling sits in an awkward middle ground — not bad enough to dislike outright, but not memorable enough to truly recommend.

This started out slow, but then picked up for me towards the second half. I really adored Connor; he was charming and sweet and I loved getting to see his moments as a dad. I didn't really enjoy Olivia's character and found myself being annoyed at her at times. There was also moments I wasn't completely sold on the chemistry between the two specifically in the beginning, but then there was other moments where I felt myself enjoying their dynamic. Overall it was a cute and lighthearted read to start the year.

Kathryn Freeman’s A Nantucket Fling made me realize that apparently all it takes for me to spiral emotionally is one emotionally unavailable finance queen, one ridiculously patient younger chef with golden retriever energy, and an island full of salty air, summer wine, and terrible decisions disguised as “vacation flings.” Avon, thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted ARC because this book slid directly into my brain like a beach read wearing designer sunglasses and somehow left me questioning whether maybe spreadsheets really are the enemy of joy.

Listen… Connor might officially be added to the “fictional men who could ruin my life and I’d still thank them” list. A younger single dad chef who cooks, flirts, communicates, and looks at Olivia like she hung the moon? Sir. Be serious. Meanwhile Olivia is deeply committed to her career, emotionally locked down tighter than Fort Knox, and spends half this book trying to convince herself that wanting love somehow makes her weak. Which honestly made her frustrating at times… but also painfully real. Kathryn Freeman really leaned into that idea that successful women are constantly told they can “have it all” while quietly being expected to sacrifice pieces of themselves to get there.

And somehow beneath all the beachy flirting, spicy tension, and Nantucket summer vibes, this story becomes about burnout, loneliness, vulnerability, and what happens when someone sees through the polished version of you and still stays.

Connor absolutely carried huge emotional weight in this story for me. The man was steady. Kind. Patient to the point where I wanted to hand him a margarita and tell him to stand up. 😂 But every scene with his daughter Ellie softened the entire story in the best way. Those moments gave the romance actual heart instead of just chemistry.

“You should never not feel attractive, wanted, desired.”

Yeah. That line? Straight into the bloodstream.

The Nantucket setting felt breezy and escapist without overpowering the story, and once the book shifts back to England, the romance actually becomes stronger because suddenly this isn’t just vacation fantasy anymore. It’s real life. Real schedules. Real fears. Real compromises. And honestly? That second half worked so much better for me emotionally.

Was Olivia stubborn? Absolutely. Did I occasionally want to shake her by the shoulders while Connor stared at her like a sad golden retriever holding flowers in the rain? Also yes. But the payoff eventually lands, especially if you love romances where emotional growth matters just as much as the attraction.

And that epilogue? Oh Kathryn Freeman absolutely knew what she was doing there. Tiny emotional ambush. Completely rude behavior.

So tell me honestly: could you ever trust yourself to keep a vacation romance casual… or are we all one beach sunset away from making life-altering decisions? 🌊🍷

I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this as an ARC. For me, this was an ok book. It is a light romance, set first in Nantucket, then in England. Olivia is in Nantucket for her niece, Sophie's wedding and meets Connor. Connor is a chef working in Nantucket for a few weeks to learn from a chef and make some extra money. Olivia is a39 and a rising star at her financial firm. Connor is 29 and has a daughter from a previous relationship. They are attracted to each other and have a fling.That is the first part of the book, and reason for the title. The rest takes place in England as Connor and Olivia try to fight their attraction ( they fail) and work slowly towards building something together. It is complicated by her work, his daughter etc. The story is a bit formulaic and reminiscent of an episode of Friends( which Connor's daughter Ellie wants to watch despite Connor's concerns that it is not age appropriate.)As I said it is ok .It is a nice light beach read. The only lingering question I had was if Olivia and her whole family are living in England, and the wedding is in Nantucket because Sophie's husband(Steve) to be who is from Boston, used to summer there with his family, how did Sophie and Steve meet- did some one go to school in Boston, or England or what? It was a bit disconcerting to have this whole British family in Nantucket with any explanation .

This was such a sweet, swoony romance and exactly the kind of feel good read I was hoping for.

I really enjoyed the age gap and single dad tropes, especially because the story had more emotional depth than I expected. The family dynamics felt relatable, the chemistry was easy to root for, and the romance had that warm, charming build that makes you want to keep turning the pages.

I loved the Nantucket setting and the way Kathryn Freeman balanced heart, humor, and vulnerability. This one gave me cozy coastal romance vibes with enough tension and tenderness to make it feel satisfying.

Perfect for readers who love single dads, age gap romance, realistic relationship dynamics, and a romance that is sweet, swoon worthy, and full of heart.

A Nantucket Fling: A Novel – A Delightful Age Gap Rom-Com about a Career Woman and the Single Dad Who Steals Her Heart

A sweet but steamy age gap romance (10 years younger) with the woman being the older character - I like age gap romances that do that. This perfect for your summer reads.

Olivia is an older woman, fiercely independent and climbing up the corporate ladder. Summoned to her niece’s wedding in Nantucket, Olivia catches the eye of Conor, a summer chef. Olivia’s sisters encourage her to have a “fling.” Conor is a dad now but his daughter is with her grandparents so he feels free to be spread his wings and be a playboy. As the “fling” goes one Olivia isn’t sure this is for her but she really needs to break loose. Then it’s time to leave and the fling is over. When Conor has another chance to see Olivia, he realizes he’s not the playboy he initially appeared to be; he’s a dad. Can she handle that?

Loved the characters and the setting. And the ending is the best. This is a fun and good romance to read.

A Nantucket Fling was an enjoyable enough read, especially if you’re in the mood for something light and easy to finish in a few sittings. The Nantucket backdrop was charming and gave the story that perfect summer feel. I also liked the overall premise and there were a few genuinely sweet moments throughout.

For me, though, the story stayed a little too surface-level emotionally. I kept waiting to feel more invested in the characters and their relationship, but I never completely got there. The dialogue and romance were cute at times, but somewhat predictable, and I found myself wanting a bit more tension or emotional depth.

Still, it’s a decent vacation-style romance that many readers will probably enjoy as a quick escape. Not a standout favorite for me, but still a solid 3-star read.

Conner is a single dad, solo for the summer on Nantucket while his daughter spends time iwth her grandparents. Olivia, ten years older than Conner, is visiting the island for a wedding. When the two meet, they are instantly attracted, despite the age difference. So, they decide on a summer fling but that's all either of them expect.

After their lives return to normal, the two don't expect to encounter one another again. Olivia is working hard to achieve success in the finance world and Conner is and Conner is working to be able to run ihis own restaurant. But they do meet again and are forced to make some decisions about what each of them truly want in life.

Recommended for those who enjoy summer romance novels.

Such a cute book!

I won’t lie. Olivia annoyed the ever-loving heck out of me for a large portion of the story…but I feel like maybe she was supposed to? Her growth in the last portion redeemed her a bit for me.

But Connor. I SWEAR the leading men in my most recent books are just top tier. Nantucket Connor kinda bugged me…but hot dad Connor in London was exceptional. The way he loved and showed up for both his daughter and Livvy was 10/10.

That said, this book is long. I flew through it over two days, but wasn’t expecting it to be as long as it was. Around the middle I honestly thought “my god can we cut to the chase,” but by the end it all seemed relevant/worthwhile.

Unfortunately, I think this book was just not for me. A Nantucket Fling is about a cut throat business woman named Olivia taking a holiday in Nantucket where she meets single dad and chef, Connor. The highlight of this book for me was the interactions between Connor and his daughter. I also enjoyed the banter between Olivia and her sisters. Sadly, the main characters just felt flat to me. It was hard for me to want to root for them to be together when they felt rather one dimensional to me. Olivia was especially hard for me to like, and I really did not come around until about 80% through the book. I also really wanted more Nantucket.

This was a nice vacation romance with a single-dad chef and a boss bitch heroine. Olivia and Connor meet in Nantucket while she is on her niece’s hen party and Connor is working for the summer. They bargain to have a steamy vacation fling, but feelings follow them home to the U.K.

This was definitely a romance heavy read and had plenty of spicy scenes. Their relationship is initially very lust focused but grows as they get to know each other, especially once Olivia is introduced to Connor’s daughter.

I struggled a bit with Olivia as a main character, as she came across as very stubborn and unwilling to adapt throughout the book. It was a bit frustrating when her arguments about them being in a relationship were all the same, and centered around her job.
I don’t know if I fully see the relationship between her and Connor working out long-term, but they had a lot of good banter initially and I did have a good time reading the book!

This book gave me all the breezy summer rom com feels! Olivia and Connor couldn’t be more different. She’s a polished finance exec glued to her spreadsheets, and he’s a laid back single dad chasing his dream. Their Nantucket meet cute starts as a “why not?” kind of fling, but the chemistry jumps off the page from the start…fun banter, stolen glances, and that perfect slow burn tension. It’s flirty and emotional beneath the beachy fun, and the Nantucket setting adds major escapist charm for this perfect opposites attract love story!

I will say that I did like the second half better than I did the first. I felt like everyone was so pushy towards Olivia in the beginning and I didn’t really like that. It kind of came off as desperate, and my girl was just trying to relax.

The second half was a lot better with development of the relationship between Olivia and literally everyone.
I will say one of the best parts about this book was Connor’s daughter Ellie. Plus I loved the epilogue, one of my favorite parts of a book that involves single parents is when the epilogue is told from the kids point of view. The only thing I didn’t like was she was supposed to 13 and was still sounding like an 8 year old.

I selected this hoping and expecting light summer read. It is not in dual POV but rather a traditional writing style which I must admit took me a bit to get used to.

I was intrigued by the reverse age gap trope as it’s is a favorite of mine which I don’t find all that often . I found the character of Olivia a bit problematic and frustrating. I was hoping that she would evolve into a more like able character.

The epilogue was the best part of the book for me.

A Nantucket Fling by Kathryn Freeman is a light, breezy romance, but it struggled to fully engage me. Olivia is career-driven and guarded, making her frustrating to read, while Connor, though sweet and devoted to his daughter, often feels underdeveloped and is motivated more by physical attraction than emotional depth. Their chemistry didn’t consistently land, especially in the first half, and the pacing dragged during the vacation setup before picking up in the second half.

While the book touches on themes like personal boundaries, grief, and family expectations, these moments felt underexplored. The story also jostles between a beachy rom-com vibe and a slightly steamy romance, without fully committing to either, leaving it uneven at times. That said, Connor’s charm and the banter between the leads do make parts of the book enjoyable, and the second half delivers a satisfying, if predictable, HEA. Overall, it’s a cute, easy read, but it could have benefited from stronger character development, tighter pacing, and more emotional payoff.

DNF -20%. I could not keep reading this. So far, it’s been 7 chapters of the mmc aggressively pursuing Olivia, the fmc when she’s made it known she is not interested. She’s on a bachelorette weekend with her sisters in Nantucket, and they are just teasing and bullying her to give in to Connor because he’s hot and she’s uptight. Damn, let the woman enjoy her vacation in peace.

I have to say that I am more a thriller and contemporary fiction reader over romance. I thought this book was going to be a little more like an Elin Hilderbrand book I had read when I requested from NetGalley, however, it ended up being full on romance. I would say I gave it a lower rating because it was harder for me to get through it since it’s not my typical genre. I’m not someone who likes the ooey gooey of smut of books, and this had a lot of that. If you enjoy romance books, I think this would be a total 5 star for you!!!

I am loving the summer vibes right now!
This book was another one that was just sweet the ending made me go aww and it was just nice and cozy!

He's a young chef and she's in finance and they start off on a holiday fling but turns to more! I enjoyed reading how their relationship was progressing and I absolutely love how Connor was as a dad. I love that it's a standalone but secretly hope maybe we'll get more in this world in the future!

Such a fun novel about a vacation fling that turns into so much more. I enjoyed the Nantucket setting and the age gap between the MCs, and there is a lot to love about the journey Connor and Olivia take to their happily ever after.

Olivia is a career-minded woman and she’s sick of her sisters constantly pushing her to open herself up to a relationship. And quite frankly, I think she’s fully justified in her frustrations about that. Hearing over and over that all you’ve accomplished doesn’t seem like enough to your closest friends and family would be exhausting, and though those people mean well, they do push it a bit too much as far as making her feel she won’t ever be complete without a husband and children.

Connor is a lovable MMC–a single dad to a sweet little girl, trying his best to do right by her even as the girl’s mother isn’t involved in her life. He’s also adorably devoted to Olivia and refuses to hear her objections over their age difference (she’s older by almost a decade).

This book might sound like it’s purely beachy rom-com vibes, but quite a bit of the story actually takes place after the vacation, once they’ve both returned to real life. I would have liked a bit more depth to the MCs and their relationship, but I enjoyed seeing their paths cross again and how they dealt with the complications of the relationship. All in all, it’s a fun romance.

With unseasonably warm weather this week and Valentines Day just a few days away, I treated myself to reading a fun little romcom by Kathryn Freeman. A Nantucket Fling, being published June 9, 2026, by HarperCollins Publishers, is just the thing for an enjoyable virtual getaway.

Olivia Davies is a career driven woman, with no time or patience for pursuing a man or a marriage. She is on the fast track to being CIO for a well known London company. Olivia is competing against Stuart for the promotion she has worked 15 years toward. Fighting the "gold ole' boys club" all the way up the ladder. A few weeks before her interview process begins she must attend a family wedding across the pond in the United States, Nantucket, Massachusetts to be exact. As the single younger sister, accompanied by her two older sisters and the wedding party, she is challenged to enjoy a little harmless fling while on vacation. Nothing serious, just some outings with the hot young chef , Connor, helping to cater the "hen party," and wedding dinner. What could it hurt to let her hair down and enjoy the attention of a younger man?

Back home in England, she finds herself back in the grind, pursuing her promotion when she reconnects with Connor once again. The relationship rekindles, but Connor hasn't shared everything about his life with Olivia. His world is more complicated than he has led her to believe.

Olivia is guarded with her own doubts. How could a virile younger man fancy a career driven woman ten years older than him, and is that man worth changing her plans for? She doesn't want marriage, or a family...her only desire is to meet her goal. Is the cost too high?

I thoroughly enjoyed the story. As a light read to chase off the winter doldrums or perhaps a summer read by the pool, A Nantucket Fling by Kathryn Freeman is just perfect. I am so appreciative of HarperCollins Publishers for the advance e-proof copy distributed by NetGalley in exchange for this honest review. I give A Nantucket Fling four stars, and hope to see it fly off the shelves this coming June.

Bit of sun.. bit of fun!

A Nantucket Fling is all about the casual fun a vacation can offer if one is willing to experience it. It's flirty, international and low-stakes romance gives readers a chance to relax into a no strings attached rendezvous. But what happens when the fling doesn't end with the vacation?

Olivia is a strong character- passionate about her career and unwilling to settle in a relationship that might threaten her goals. And she holds tight to her principles... until she is pressured to spend time with barman/chef Connor who (coincidentally) is working for the summer where Olivia and her family just happen to be vacationing. Connor promises to show her a "limited time only" good time and Olivia reluctantly (and with great pushing of her family members) agrees. But as any good time, it is not enough time for some.

This book was an easy read without much at stake. It shows a great window into a slightly older FMC's perspective on family and career. It highlights the struggle of an age gap romance without taking away the humanity in either character. Both experience real situations that cause internal struggle with the potential for heartbreak. But, unfortunately, it is also within these real situations where a bit of disappointment and disbelief can happen for the reader. You root for the character to have a "happy ending" without sacrificing their principles and it can be difficult to accept a change of path or heart.

At any rate, this book will be a light-hearted summer read and many romance enthusiasts will enjoy falling for the "hot Chef".

A Nantucket Fling follows Olivia, a fiercely independent finance professional who reluctantly takes time off to attend her niece’s wedding festivities in Nantucket, only to find herself unexpectedly drawn to Connor—a charming, confident man ten years her junior. What begins as a no-strings-attached summer distraction quickly deepens as Connor encourages Olivia to loosen her tight grip on control and embrace the chemistry between them. As the vacation ends and they return to their very different lives, they’re forced to confront whether what they shared was just a fleeting holiday romance or something strong enough to survive beyond the island.

I loved this book. The plot was completely on point, and I read it so effortlessly. Out of the hundreds of romance books I’ve read, this is the first what I would call a reverse age gap—where the woman is older and more financially stable. Normally that might put me off a little, but it worked so well here. Liv and Connor are probably one of the best couples I’ve read. They’re complete opposites, and their journey together was so inspiring. It was complicated and messy at times, but absolutely worth it. Liv is a total boss, she is so driven and stuck in her way, that Connor, being a total mess is truly what she needed. I found myself not only rooting for them but for Liv. I thought she deserved to have it all.

I just finished A Nantucket Fling by Kathryn Freeman, and it is a total masterclass in the "Vacation Fling" trope. Here’s the tea:
• The Vibe: Livvy is a high-powered, "I don’t do feelings" professional. Connor is a chef, bartender, and the ultimate single-dad thirst trap.
• The Conflict: Livvy wanted a clean break. Her sisters? Not so much. They staged an "accidental" reunion back in England that turned her organized life upside down.
• The Heart: Watching Connor "wow" his way through Livvy’s defenses was pure joy. But the real kicker is when Livvy lands her dream job in NYC.
The Verdict: If you love a hero who is supportive enough to let you go, and a heroine strong enough to realize that a CEO title doesn't hug you back at night, this is for you.
The ending gave me the ultimate rom-com airport fake-out (you know the one!), and I may or may not have cheered out loud. It’s witty, it’s steamy, and it’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best career move is choosing your heart. 🏠❤️

This book did not turn out how I expected and I’m so glad! Fun twists, a New England vacation, and a few well-placed, open door scenes made this book an easy 4 stars for me! While I adored Connor from the first chapter, Olivia took some time to grow on me. Her character development was impressive though. Make sure you read the epilogue for the sweetest surprise! This book was the perfect summer romance and my only regret is not saving it for the beach.

I adored this book! Olivia is a driven workaholic who rarely slows down, so when her family basically forces her to take time off and spend a few days in Nantucket for her niece’s bachelorette and wedding, she reluctantly agrees. What she doesn’t expect is to meet Connor the charming, talented chef who is ten years younger than her and a single dad.

Their chemistry is instant, and what starts out as a fun, no strings vacation fling quickly becomes something more meaningful. I loved watching Olivia wrestle with her need for control versus letting herself enjoy life, and seeing Connor balance his responsibilities with the possibility of new love. When the holiday ends and they return to their real lives, they realize walking away is much harder than either of them planned and maybe what they had deserves a real chance.

Sweet, thoughtful, and full of beachy Nantucket charm this one felt warm, romantic, and surprisingly emotional. A perfect comfort read!

A Nantucket fling…or a lifetime love?

Olivia and Connor meet in Nantucket while both are looking for a brief escape from real life. Olivia is very focused on her career and determined not to let anything—or anyone—get in the way, which makes her a tough nut to crack. At times, I was surprised by how patient Connor remained as he continued to pursue her despite her guarded demeanor.

They finally give in to their connection during one unforgettable summer week before going their separate ways. The second half of the book shifts back to England, where their lives slowly begin to intertwine again. Once they find their way back to each other, they move toward (and sometimes push against) a hard-earned HEA.

While I enjoyed the premise and character dynamics, the pacing felt slower than it needed to be, and the story could have been tighter without losing its emotional payoff. Readers who enjoy age-gap romance, single-dad stories, and career-driven heroines may still really enjoy this one.
