To open her cannabis dispensary, a chronically ill woman must defeat the surly doctor next door in this hilarious and steamy romantic comedy.

Nomi Wyeth, former valedictorian and current pothead, has her heart set on opening her own boutique cannabis dispensary in charming downtown Sparrow Nook, New Jersey. Cannabis changed Nomi’s life, giving her relief from Crohn’s disease when nothing else could, and it’s her dream to help others find the same peace and comfort she has.

But Nomi’s plans are rudely interrupted when Dr. Julian D’Angelo, former salutatorian and current asshole, returns to Sparrow Nook with a chip on his shoulder, a probation to serve at the medical practice next door, and a lifelong vendetta against weed.

When an unfortunate shaving accident lands Nomi onto Julian’s exam table, Julian is appalled to discover that his high school nemesis is still inconveniently gorgeous, still hates his guts, and worst of all, that she’s planning on opening an amoral weed bordello next to his clinic. War is the only answer and definitely not an excuse to keep running into witty, free-spirited Nomi.

As they battle each other all over Sparrow Nook, from “pot luck” fundraisers to public debates at City Council meetings, their fraught pasts and feelings for each other become harder and harder to ignore. It’s tough to say what will change first—their minds or their hearts—but one thing’s for they’re not going down without a fight.

Pot Shot is a book you should not read in public. It is too laugh out loud funny, too snotty tears emotional, and too need a cold shower sexy.

I’d give it a million stars if I could.

The way the author writes about chronic illness… I have never felt so seen, so understood. Reading this book feels like someone cracked open my chest, peered at my chronically ill soul and said, “I see you, all of you, now let me show you how worthy of love you area.”

Not to mention the MMC grovels while wearing slutty little short shorts.

I could wax poetic about this book all day. I might come back and add more to this review after a re-read, and I will be doing a re-read as soon as the audiobook is available.

This book is hilarious, but its also emotional and Laura Piper Lee did a phenomenal job of balancing the humor, the trauma, the rep, it was honestly awe-inspiring how well she weaved them together. The timing of a joke right after she rips your heart out… perfection.

Whats to love….
- EVERYTHING!!!!
- he grovels
- found family
- rivals to lovers
- chronic illness baddie FMC
- slutty little everything MMC
- second chance single timeline

I love this book so much!

as someone who reads mostly contemporary romance, i can say that laura piper lee absolutely knows what she’s doing !! unfortunately, i was deep in a reading slump when i read this, so it did take me nearly a month, but the book is definitely not to blame. in a regular scenario, i would have flown through this. the characters are relatable, the romance is hot, and the plot is incredibly addictive.

⇢ ˗ˏˋ "i’ve felt about a thousand different things for you over the years that i’ve known you. but i’ve always, always liked you.” ࿐ྂ

⋆.𐙚 ̊ the premise ꒰🍃꒱

the story follows nomi wyeth, a former valedictorian turned full-time stoner, as she navigates her life, goals, and relationships while handling crohn’s disease. nomi dreams of opening a dispensary in her small town to help break down stereotypes about marijuana and share its benefits. her dream is suddenly crushed when her former academic rival, julian d’angelo, moves back to town and begins working in the clinic next door. julian is everything nomi isn’t: uptight, pretentious, and, most importantly, completely against cannabis. as their hatred begins to resurface, so do feelings they both thought they’d left behind.

⋆˚࿔ the characters ꒰🌅꒱

most of the humor in this book comes primarily from the characters and how they interact. i have screenshot after screenshot of certain lines that were genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. not that i have anything against it, but i’ve never really cared for the found family trope until now. i absolutely adored the way nomi’s friends included julian, even when he was being an asshole…

ᯓ nomi wyeth ˎˊ˗, a young woman struggling with crohn’s disease, has looked to marijuana as a way to feel better after years of failed medical treatments. nomi has made it her goal to show the world that cannabis is a lot more beneficial than people believe. i really loved nomi and feel like I really learned a lot about the uses of marijuana. she was such a beautiful and complex character, remaining strong despite all of her struggles.

.𖥔 ݁ ˖ julian d’angelo ˚. is a try-hard doctor sent back to his hometown in an attempt to fix his career after a large dent in his reputation. julian being an anxious, pathetic mess was such a great contrast to free-spirited nomi and made their relationship much more enjoyable. i originally thought that julian was the funniest character, until i realised a lot of the humor comes from the others casually making fun of him..

જ⁀➴°⋆ overall ꒰🏥꒱

to me, this was an easy five-star read. somehow, it was laugh-out-loud funny, while occasionally touching on important issues. i will most definitely be reading more by laura piper lee !!

Nomi has Crohn’s and wants to open a dispensary, and honestly? I felt that in my bones. She hides her illness not because she’s ashamed but because she doesn’t want it to become her whole identity and as someone with a chronic illness and a kid with diabetes, that shit hit me. You’re allowed to be a full person, not just a diagnosis. My heart hurt for Nomi 😞

And then there’s Julian. A pretentious, anti-weed doctor who thinks his fancy Yale degree means he knows more about bodies than the people living in them. Again, been there, done that. Watching this book quietly drag medical arrogance while standing up for patient lived experience? Beautiful. No notes.

Also?? This book is funny as hell. The stoner scenes were actually accurate. I actually ended up getting fomo at the Potluck Party scene that I had to take the kindle out to the garage and do some gardenmom activities 🤫😂😂 I laughed out loud more than once. I highlighted several funny moments I wanted to go back to for a giggle.

This story broke down so many stereotypes about cannabis, both medicinal and recreational and chronic illness, while still being a messy, sexy, heartfelt romance. I loved it. Just genuinely so good.
Also, any chance of book 2 with…idk Graham or the little evil lesbian? Ijs 😉

Wow, this is a story that is going to stick with me! Laura Piper Lee’s writing is so enjoyable and witty, and had me hooked immediately. The balance between humor and depth throughout the story was so perfect.

I think these are characters that so many of us can relate to. Nomi and Julian each face so many internal and external battles (both personal and professional) and I loved watching them work through them separately and together.

Nomi’s experience with chronic illness was extremely insightful; not all ailments are visible and you don’t always know what others are going through.

This story is a reminder that you will never be too much for the right person. Sometimes you just have to dare to let love in and let people surprise you. The people who love you will do so no matter what all while helping you become the best version of yourself. It doesn’t make you weak to let the people in your life care for you!!!!

I can’t wait to read more Laura Piper Lee!

This was the best contemporary romance I’ve read in a minute. I devoured this in 24 hours and I laughed so hard along the way. It is hilarious. It’s endearing. It’s everything you want in a romance novel. I was laughing literally out loud during many moments. Julian is so Schmidt from New Girl coded and I love it so much.

This book is especially meaningful to me because my husband has Crohn’s Disease and after 11 years I’ve come to know the ins and outs of the pain it causes. This book is excellent representation and hits home for really anyone with invisible pain. I will now be referring to him as a “consumptive Victorian invalid with the shits.” To which he has already responded with, “that’s okay, that’s basically what I’m channeling at the renaissance faire this year.”

LPL you killed it and I can’t wait for everyone else to have this beautifully funny wonderful book.

I will read anything Laura writes because she is my friend and a genius. As someone who has an iffy relationship to marijuana, I didn’t know if I’d get this book as much as her other romances, but joke’s on me!! It’s maybe the best book I have read in years and made me laugh constantly??? I stayed up until 3am reading it on my phone in the dark while my boyfriend slept, and when he woke up to pee he was like why are you crying over a rom-com???? BECAUSE JULIAN AND NOMI ARE PERFECT, THAT IS WHY. Come for the stoner comedy, stay for the beautiful representation of life with a chronic illness and also a farting dog named BonBon Jovi.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Pot Shot follows 33-year-old Nomi, who suffers from Crohn’s disease and has found that marijuana really helps her symptoms. Because of this, she wants to open her own dispensary in her town to help others too. Then enters Julian, also 33, someone she went to high school with and an old fling. He’s taking a break from working in the ER and is now working at the local family practice. The problem is… he hates weed.

The book follows their fight over whether the dispensary should happen or not, while also showing a sweet love story developing between the two. Ps: potluck scene, hilarious!!!

This book was really funny and I actually laughed out loud a few times, which is rare for me when reading! I loved hearing about Nomi’s chronic illness and how she lives with it. As someone who partakes in weed, I found parts of it relatable, but I can also see how someone who doesn’t could still enjoy it. The book isn’t forcing you to like weed, it’s more explaining why some people do and why some people don’t.

Both characters are flawed people who love each other anyway, which I liked. Julian was a bit unlikable at the beginning, but as we learn more about him I started to like him more.

Overall this was a solid, fun read. Nothing too crazy or super memorable, but I had fun reading it and that’s the whole point of reading!

3.5 stars. I’ll definitely read more from this author in the future. Also, the cover is adorable and will need to purchase when it comes out!

Thank you Union Square & Co. for this ARC!

Not gonna lie, you had me in the first half - I almost gave up.
But the second half really pulled it all together for me.
I really enjoyed all the side characters that helped develop our two main characters.
I wish there was a tiny bit more spice, it felt like too many scenes built up to something, and then were fade to black.

Some people might find the writing style a little off putting, slightly 'cringe' as the youth would say.
But it kept my attention that's for sure.

My Review:
This book was the absolute best kind of rollercoaster: one that had me laughing one minute and blinking back tears the next.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: no one does humor the way Laura Piper Lee does. Seriously, her other books are hilarious, but this one takes the cake for the most times I actually laughed out loud or had to put my kindle down for a second to absorb the absolute comedic genius. This story has the most unhinged opening chapter I've ever read, and I knew from the very beginning that I was going to be obsessed with this one (and I was right, of course). The overall plot was interesting and engaging, and I constantly wanted to know what was going to happen next.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the character development. Both main characters had wonderful, well-done arcs, and I love them both. Julian is prickly and kind of a jerk for the first part of the book, but seeing him work through that as well as learning about his background made me love him so much. Plus, he begs. And grovels. And is just generally hot. All good things in my book. As for Nomi, she was truly iconic. Her wit and her care for others made me love her from the get go. Plus, she’s also hot and insanely smart, so she’s my kind of woman.

Chronic illness is still very underrepresented in the romance genre, and it’s so important to have that representation in these stories. This was the first time I ever read about a character with Crohn’s disease, and I learned a lot about it because of this story. I also learned a lot about the medicinal properties of marijuana, and as a nerd, I love a book that not only has a great story, but also teaches me things.

The pacing was excellent. I was hooked from the very beginning until the end, which is very important to me. Laura Piper Lee’s writing style is engaging, and, once again, hilarious. Plus, the voices she gives her characters are unique, which is something I love.

Overall, I love this book. If you want a genuinely hilarious rom com, this book is for you!

3.75-4⭐️ So here’s the thing, I was not at all sure what to expect when I picked this one up, but it was so fun, vulnerable, and real. This book genuinely made me laugh out loud, and it also made me really emotional and feel seen. This book is so much more than just “the weed romance book”. I did not think I would relate to this book at all, but Laura Piper Lee handled the subject matter so delicately and intentionally. It is about living with chronic illness at its core, and how to maneuver a world that does not stop even when you feel like you are falling apart. The serious moments are extremely well balanced with the romance, and all the aspects feel cohesive and intentional. I think this book was extremely well done, and I am so excited to dive into Laura Piper Lee’s backlist!

Pot Shot by Laura Piper Lee
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)
I read this on 4/20… so let that soak in 🌿💨 But truly, I haven’t laughed OUT LOUD this hard at a book in a long time. The shenanigans Julian gets into as someone who doesn’t partake were absolutely hilarious. His situations just kept getting better (and worse 😅). I also really appreciated the representation of how MJ can support people in different ways, especially alongside the chronic illness rep.

As a someone who has a chronic illness best treated by cannabis, I needed to read this book and I am so glad I did! Pot Shot is by far one of the funniest, sweetest second chance romances I have read. I love Nomi's character; strong, determined, and take no shit. Julian, bless his heart, was so sweet, but so frustrating and I wanted to slap him over the head on more than one occasion! I mean c'mon, "lasagna"!? I'm glad he came to his senses, but I feel his arc was a little sudden, but still, I'm glad he, with Nomi's help, figured out that cannabis can actually be a very beneficial thing.

When I say this book is by far the funniest books I have ever read, I am by no means lying. I kept laughing out loud in the most inopportune times because this book made me giggle and blush so much.

This book may have just went right to the top of my Favorite Books Of All Time list. It was hilarious from Chapter 1, and an emotional rollercoaster from there. I laughed, I cried. At first, I got The Ick from Julian, but I grew to love him by the end.

This book felt like a love letter to New Jersey. As a New Jerseyan, I really appreciated the references to crazy Jersey drivers, Italian family culture, the Phillie Phanatic, and of course, Wawa. I also agree that the Wildwood Boardwalk is the best boardwalk at the Jersey Shore!

I also loved Nomi, and as a stoner originally from Georgia that grew up in New Jersey, it was cool to have that connection her.

I really enjoyed the pacing of this novel, the writing, and the relationships between all the characters. Nomi and Julian’s relationship was especially beautiful and I loved how they understood each other on a deep level.

I was also so happy to see the shoutout to Kiss & Tale Romance Bookshop in Collingswood, NJ as I have been there several times! I hope to be able to purchase a signed copy of this book from them when it releases.

Thank you so much to Laura Piper Lee, Union Square & Co. and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Pot Shot found me at a perfect time in my life, because this story, to me, is a perfect representation of chronic illnesses (specifically in the stomach) and chasing your dreams. Laura Piper Lee is officially a favorite author of mine and this is a top tier read for me.

Nomi is planning to open the first dispensary in her town. Living with a chronic illness, she has become an expert in the medicinal benefits of marijuana. This book show cases the benefits so well. It’s so much more than people just getting high for fun (which for the record is also totally fine). To have a crippling pain that can even slightly eased is something I UNDERSTAND. I loved seeing all the different characters and the benefits it provides to them.

Julian, my sassy boy. I fell for him so hard regardless of him being D’Asshole. He’s like so baby girl at the same time no joke. Seeing his point of view and how that can be changed with positive changes and people in your life is honestly beautiful. His pain is so valid and I loved seeing him get the love and answers he needed to grow.

Laura is a MASTER at comedy in her books honestly. The first page alone is soooooo funny, but she really nails a hilarious start to her novels every time. I was laughing, kicking my feet, crying, and smiling so hard my cheeks hurt. This was a perfect romance book in my opinion. To be loved is to be seen.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Union Square & Co for the arc!!!!! A true gift

After years of research, thought, and planning, Nomi is ready to open her own dispensary in her hometown. Her attention to detail, empathetic nature, and own experience with chronic illness makes her the perfect person to cater to the marijuana needs of Sparrow Nook, New Jersey. Unfortunately her nemesis, Julian D’Angelo, whose medical clinic is next door to Nomi’s soon-to-be-open business, is vehemently opposed to her helping his small town get high. Julian and Nomi find themselves having to reluctantly work together after multiple incidents leave Julian on the brink of not being able to practice medicine anymore, and Nomi not able to open her shop. There’s a fine line between love and hate, and how long can the pothead and stuck up doctor work together before things spark up?

———-

I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this book, and all of the characters. I laughed so hard reading this my stomach hurt. I was giggling in the first two pages and it never really stopped. It was just pure joy. Despite the hilarity, there’s a strong emotional thread that runs through the plot and the growing connection between Julian and Nomi is beautiful. The conversation about chronic illness and how doctors treat symptoms and discount pain, especially in women is important and relevant. As someone who lives with a chronic illness, I felt very represented within the pages and I teared up a few times when Nomi’s thoughts about her life resonated with me.

It is a very slow burn of a romance. Wow does she ever make us wait for the few spicy scenes, but it’s worth it to get there with all the flirting and tense moments. Loads of laughs and falling in love.

While I certainly loved Nomi’s character, Julian really shone for me. He is the most insufferable little weirdo but also incredibly adorable and really endearing. I loved his character’s growth and GOD he’s a good groveler. I loved his change in attitude about marijuana from start to finish.

This one is going on my Top Reads of 2026 list!

This book is everything I love in romance. It's funny and witty, filled with playfulness and banter. But it also has layers. Julian has preconceived notions about the cannabis industry because of his childhood but the woman he has always been drawn to - Nomi - is a cannabis connoisseur, and someone who wants to show a community she cares for the benefits of cannabis for a myriad of uses, including for her own health. but Julian, despite his feelings for Nomi, starts a war with her to stop her from opening her dispensary.

Julian and Nomi both grow so much throughout the novel. Julian becomes more open minded as his priorities and his wants out of life change. Nomi finally let's Julian in, despite her attempt to keep him at a distance because of her health.

Pot Shot has the perfect amount of yearning, the perfect amount of push and pull between Julian and Nomi. They balance each other out and I love their dynamic. While this was very much a slow burn for me, the pacing of their relationship felt perfect for them.

I also love that this author tapped into the topic of cannabis since it still feels very taboo and it's not something I see very often, especially in the romance genre.

I ADORED this book!! I hope this author follows up with some of the supporting characters because I loved Eve and Graham so much too!

It was perfect. I don’t even know where to begin.

First and foremost, it’s hilarious from page one. You will laugh in that way that only Laura Piper Lee can make you laugh. Her characters are so real and relatable, and if you’re from South Jersey, you will see yourself, your family, and your entire graduating class reflected in these pages.

Next, I need to take a second to appreciate the RESEARCH Laura Piper Lee did for this book. I’ve always been a huge supporter of cannabis, both medically and recreationally, but holy crap I learned so much reading this book that I kinda want it to be required reading for doctors, those with chronic pain, politicians… and just everyone I guess?! I wish everyone had an advocate like Nomi in their life. Also, it’s such a beautiful middle finger to those in the medical world who just throw opioids at pain.

Of course, I have to mention the spice?!! Oooooh Laura nailed it, as she always does. The tension is sooo yummy with these two, so when it finally pays off, it’s SO GOOD 😍🔥🤩 Also, Laura, I blame you for the fact that I find sunscreen application impossibly sexy now…

Ugh. This is one of those books that I’m so sad I finished. I just wanted it to keep going. I can’t wait to read it again when the physical copies come out, if for no other reason than to relive the “tight butthole” conversation 😂

A few favorite bits:
- The NJ accuracy of having a cousin named after a frozen pizza brand.
- Respect for the New Jersey “j’eat.”
- “Justice for Rose DeWitt Bukater.”
- I will forever ponder what aliens will think when they dig up our ceremonial scissors.

I love when books find you at the right moment. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Pot Shot while I was going through a really difficult time. I hadn’t been reading much (trauma will do that to you,) but one night when the insomnia was raging, I picked up Pot Shot and gave it a whirl.

It became a bright source of joy during a dark time, and I think I will feel forever indebted to Laura Piper Lee for helping me through it.

Thank you, Laura. Congrats on Pot Shot, I can’t wait for everyone to read it. You knocked it out of the park, yet again! 💚

This was a complete and utter delight! We love a book that can make you teary eyed at the dedication and then immediately laugh out loud in the first paragraph (two words, pube chores).

Pot Shot is about Nomi, a stoner who uses weed to manage her Crohns disease, on a quest to open her own dispensary so she can help others learn the physical and mental health benefits. Enter her old high school rival (just call him your crush Nomi) Julian. Julian's back in their small town after an incident at the hospital he's been working at and makes it his mission to oppose Nomi at every turn.

For those who haven't had the joy of reading a Laura Piper Lee book she genuinely makes her romcoms SO funny. This was no exception. I laughed throughout, while slowly falling in love with all the characters and this quirky little Jersey town. Now if you're like me, in the beginning you are going to say to yourself, how is this a romance I kind of hate Julian. I bet you to keep going! This man goes through some character development! I loved Nomi immediately, but ended up loving her and Julian together. Nomi's journey with Crohns was so amazing to read about. While I don't have Crohns I do have endometriosis so the worry, shame, and pain Nomi deals with felt so deeply relatable. I could say a million more things but I'm just gonna end with you MUST read this book.

✨️Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

First, the cover art for this novel is beautiful, very much something that would catch my eyes 👀

The story surrounds two absolutely hilarious characters, Nomi and Julian. These two circle each other like vultures looking for their next meal while also fighting their true emotions for each other. Their story was so amusing but also heartfelt, I loved their journey together and apart and how each grew in their own way.

The town itself is a character in its own midst, I can totally relate to Julian being allergic to returning to his hometown because everyone knows everything about everyone which also works for and against him in the novel. The amount of characters that provide support to the story should be overwhelming but instead it felt very nostalgic and was easy to follow. I think not only were the main characters amazing but the other characters sprinkled in really made this story feel like a 90s sitcom.

I cannot rave enough about this one, it is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. While it deals with some pretty heavy topics, I felt the love and care the author took to bring these topics to light. Highly recommend 👌

This book made me feel so GOOD. It’s ok to get help, and it’s ok if that help is not big pharma! I have trouble with that one. I’m always pulling up my big girl panties and doing too many hard things, when what I need is ease and creature comforts. Julian (beautiful Julie) showed up as Max Greenfield in my mind, which was fun. Highly recommend this one for all who partake and especially those that don’t.

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed this much while reading a book, and from chapter 1 at that. The time that wasn’t spent trying to giggle silently next to my sleeping partner, was taken up by feeling so incredibly seen. As a 420 household, who also uses the plant to aid with chronic ailments, this book hit. the. spot.

As someone who also has an embarrassing illness, I felt and understood Nomi HEAVY. It was so incredibly important for me to finally read a book with a character with such similar struggles as mine, ones I’ve also been facing a majority of my life. Struggles that are so painfully uncomfortable to share, discuss, and for others who don’t struggle with them, to understand. It was beautiful to read something that was so heavy and realatable to me, but tied up with so much comic relief.

I’ve had an exceptionally hard year, but reading this story has given me new hope and motivation to continue on. To learn how to pivot. My life may not looked the way I hoped due to my illness, but sometimes you find your true calling, your real passion— when you’re forced to pivot.

I would also like to add that the discussion of cannabis, the science behind it, and its use for medicinal reasons was incredibly well done. My partner has worked in the cannabis industry for about four years, and is extremely passionate about this plant, and it is used as medicine in our house hold regularly. The information regarding cannabis in this book was factual, and for someone with less knowledge on the topic, could be a learning opportunity. I especially respected and agreed with Nomis stance on Corporate Cannabis, and have experienced similar feelings first hand. Research, and a genuine understanding of cannabis was needed for this and you can tell it’s there.

If you are 420 friendly, chronically ill, with a love of romance and parks & rec level humor, you are going to absolutely eat this up.

Thank you to Netgalley for sending me an ARC of this book, it was an amazing surprise and may be one of my favorite reads so far this year.

3.75 ⭐️ you know what, hell yeah!

this was such a fresh and intriguing premise! the book is honestly kinda ridiculous, occasionally cringy, and a little chaotic — but also completely aware of all of that. the tone is somehow the perfect balance between being genuinely heartfelt and completely over-the-top. the humor is messy, awkward, and even absurd at times, while also delivering some truly touching moments. despite the chaos, the story also addresses serious topics, including chronic illness rep, grief, mental health rep, and the stigma surrounding cannabis use, which adds a thoughtful grounding layer.

but we need to discuss our mmc, julian... who is quite frankly, insufferable. he is arrogant, intense, obnoxious, and callous — basically a complete asshole who is seriously lacking interpersonal skills however !!! the book knows that. the fmc knows it, the side characters (which include his family) know it, and even julian knows it. his abhorrent behavior is constantly being called out and never excused, which made a major difference in how i experienced his character.

he is intentionally presented as a deeply unlikable character initially, but lee does an impressive job at showing glimpses of the person underneath the trauma, fear, anxiety, and insecurity from the very beginning — gradually endearing him to the reader. over the course of the story, those glimpses slowly build, revealing the vulnerability behind his asshole exterior (bc he’s actually so baby girl). as he heals, evolves, and seeks redemption, his character growth feels believable, sincere, earned, and incredibly satisfying. i found myself empathizing and rooting for him all along — even though he spent a good portion of the book being the actual worst (i suppose you could say his butthole finally loosened up?? iykyk).

the relationship between nomi and julian is a slow-burn filled with electric tension, swoony moments, witty banter, emotional buildup, and aching longing.

while nomi, our brilliant, compassionate, resilient fmc, may not have needed quite as much character growth as julian (he needed a lot… and i mean a lot), her journey of allowing herself to be fully seen, loved, and accepted for who she is was just as meaningful.

overall, pot shot is funny, emotional, lighthearted, romantic, and surprisingly poignant in places. and while i don’t believe this is one of those books that will be for everyone, i truly had a blast!

“i have never, not once, looked at someone and felt like my entire life’s finally begun.” <3

thank you so much to netgalley and union square & co for providing me with this arc!

4.5 rounded up. Thank you to NetGalley, Union Square & Co and Laura Piper Lee for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was an unexpected delight!! It was laugh out loud funny, heartwarming, and romantic af. The chronic health rep was perfectly handled, right from the outset. The dedication alone was such a warm hug:

“For anyone who’s ever felt like they had to hide the hurting parts of themselves to be easier to love”

Nomi has a dream: open a bespoke dispensary to serve her hometown. Living with Chron’s disease, she’s all too familiar with the realities of suffering through the pain that regular old pharmaceuticals can’t touch, and nothing is going to stand in her way in making this dream a reality.

Enter Julian, her high school nemesis slash once upon a time debate and kissing partner. He’s on a job probation back in his home town, serving as the new GP to improve his bedside manner. Unfortunately for Nomi, his practice is next door to her dispensary and he is NOT going to let it open without a fight.

Grumpy x sunshine perfection! I loved this, Nomi is an unapologetic baddie who stands firm in her convictions. She takes none of Julian’s shit, and it doesn’t take long for him to come around to her way of thinking.

Julian was a judgemental asshat to begin with, and seeing him come undone and soften around Nomi was utterly delicious. She teaches him how to lose some of his inhibitions and start actually living his life. Just gorgeous, the growth!! Ugh.

Whilst Nomi’s reluctance to share her health struggles was frustrating, it was so understandable that she didn’t want to be defined by what’s “wrong” with her. Her growth was beautiful too, realising she is worthy of being loved and being seen no matter what her Chron’s was doing.

You will love this if you are a millennial or enjoy grumpy x sunshine, rivals to lovers, second chance romance and men who would crawl for their women 🔥

Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for this ARC***

I honestly was a bit hesitant about starting this book as I was kinda worried about it being cringey and too much with the weed but I was pleasantly surprised! I was pulled in immediately by the first chapter and I knew right away that I would enjoy this book. At times the MMC was a bit much but as you get to learn about his past you can understand his thinking a bit more. I am not the biggest fan of the miscommunication or the withholding of information trope but it wasn’t too extreme. Overall I am pleasantly surprised by this book and would definitely recommend it.

4/5 😈🥬

Nomi Wyeth hasn’t had an easy life with Crohn’s Disease diagnosis, but as it’s currently in remission, she plans to make the most of it. Then the unfortunate event happens with an electric razor and her lady bits, and she’s forced to head to her physician’s office for emergency stitches - only to come face-to-face with her high school nemesis Julian.

Dr. Julian D’Angelo is back in his hometown after a 6 month suspension from his Fellowship program. He’s working for the primary care physician in town when his high school crush Nomi appears - and he’s forced to get between her legs for the complete opposite thing he always dreamed about.

Despite his never ending crush on Nomi, Julian is completely against her opening a dispensary in town. And he’s decided to make it his personal mission to stop it from happening.

***30s FMC/MMC
***Teenage rivals
***He fell first
***Dual POV

Hilarious opening scene - absolutely hilarious. This was so fun, but also layered with very real discussions of chronic illness and healthcare in our country. I loved our FMC Nomi! Julian absolutely made me mad for the first half of the book. But with all great character developments, he redeemed himself and was worthy of our Nomi. All the side characters were great and enhanced the story.

Would definitely recommend this one for its release in May!
