Soaring Bird, Book 5 – A steamy, slow burn, brother’s best friend romance with humor, heart, and late-night motorcycle rides.

Adam Sawyer never planned to fall for his best friend’s little sister.
Keeping an eye on Bex Erikson was supposed to be simple—grab a coffee together, check she’s safe, maybe share a laugh or two. But somewhere between late-night motorcycle rides, deep talks under the stars, and shifts at her pizza shop, “just looking out for her” turned into wanting her. All of her.

Bex doesn’t know Adam’s visits started as a favor to her overprotective brother. She only knows that when Adam is around, the world feels less heavy. He sees her in a way no one ever has, chaos and all. And it terrifies her how much she wants to keep him.

But secrets have a way of coming out, and Adam’s could cost him the only family he’s ever known…and the only woman he’s ever loved.

Perfect for fans of slow burn tension, protective heroes, relatable heroines, found family, and steamy brother’s best friend romance.

Heidi Hutchinson writes slow burn rock star romances for contemporary readers who like humor with their hotties. She has both open and closed door series filled with relatable characters and swooney yumminess. Double Blind Study, her go-to series, is closed door and follows a band in emotional turmoil and the women who love them.

When she’s not writing about wild hearted women and hunky heroes, she’s watching Doctor Who or trying to find the perfect gluten free pizza crust for her pizza shaped celiac heart. She lives in the Black Hills with her alarmingly handsome husband, their fearless child, and a rather large (and spoiled) dog.

She’s fueled by messages from her readers and too much coffee.
And a whole lotta love.

THE DOUBLE BLIND STUDY SERIES is an exciting romance series about rock stars in recovery. The Double Blind Study band has already lived the rock and roll cliché. This is life after. Full of humor, heart, and slow burn romance. Each book can be read alone but it is best if read in order. Cliffhanger free.

THE SOARING BIRD SERIES follows a group of extreme sports enthusiasts as they navigate life and love living on the California coast. Slow burn romantic comedies that can be read individually, but best if read in order. Cliffhanger free.

THE IN BETWEEN DUET SERIES is a slow burn unconventional romance that explores the connections of science and poetry. Occasionally intense moments of personal clarity and heartfelt confessions. Filled with touches of humor and real world obstacles. Cliffhanger free.

IN COLD MUD SERIES is a small series revolving around the politics and relationships of horse racing. Not a romance series. Definitely family drama.

NOTE: All of Heidi Hutchinson’s books take place in the Double Blind Study series. Each series can be read on their own but there are often crossover characters you may recognize.

Ohhhhhh! Yeah, that’s one of my favorite couples from Heidi. They’re so cute and sweet. Laughter and teasing is, I think, a love language, and these two have it in spades. She always manages to bring characters who are funny, nerdy, silly, and still have such depths and layers, that her work cannot be considered light fare. It’s lovely, cosy romance, and so real. Worth every moment! ❤️

Thanks for the ARC! Coming soon to release!

Perfect for fans of: Heidi Hutchinson, Emily Henry, Kelly Clarkson/P!nk’s “Broken and Beautiful”, Sleep Token, motorcycles, the Jonas Brothers’ “I Fell in Love with the Pizza Girl” song, brother’s best friend/best friend’s little sister tropes, protective MMCs, found family, getting over ex-regret, stealing your boyfriend’s hoodies, gift giving, grandmas gone wild, The Office, the last single friend in the friend group, new dreams, people who are still trying to figure out what they want to be when they grow up, and people who have learned that getting older doesn’t mean you have to fully grow up

FMC: You know that one coworker/boss who could run everything based on sheer determination? That’s Bex. Don’t let her age or stature fool you, she could rule the world with the proper motivation or pizza. Determined to prove herself and never one to ask for help, this bold babe has a few secrets she’d prefer to leave in the past.

MMC: Loyal, loving, and looking for his place in the world. Adam is the adrenaline junkie with the heart of gold and a soft spot for his best friend’s little sister. He’s seen his friends find the loves of their lives, but he’s still searching for that sense of belonging. When loyalty worthy of Lord of the Rings gets him to agree to keep an eye out for Bex while her brother is away, he might just discover everything he’s ever been looking for right under his nose.

Plot: After agreeing to keep an eye out for his best friend’s sister, Adam starts spending time with the grown up version of the girl he’s known his whole life. Bex doesn’t know why her brother’s best friend has started hanging around her pizza shop all the time, but she’s not mad about the extra help, the flirting, or the fact that Adam makes everything feel better. But as he comes up with more excuses to spend time with her at the restaurant or on his motorcycle, talking about anything and everything, the pull between the two grows stronger and stronger.

Review:
Oh my heart! How Heidi does this every time, I will never know. I’m pretty sure I highlighted half the book. We’ve known Adam for a few books now, and he’s always been the loyal friend with good advice, but now we got to see this whole different side of him, and he is impossible not to love. And Bex, who we’ve met as Steve’s baby sister, gets her chance to learn to shine again, despite everything she’s had to go through. These two bring out the best in each other, and it’s so beautiful watching their friendship grow into something more, and to see them become each other’s safe place. Their slow burn love story feels well earned in the best way.

Ah, back with the crew. Some of my fave fictional characters.

The thing is, all of Heidi's characters are relatable, even the rock stars. But a pizza slinging female lead, and a lost boy? swoon. no, seriously. SWOON.

This is undeniably a Heidi Hutchinson book. All the empathy. All the heart. All the family. And now with added sexy times.

Miss it at your peril!

OK, so I have to start this review with a HUGE apology to Ms. Heidi. I have been woefully slow in reading her back list and I am beating myself up for it now. Because this book, my followers, this book is beyond amazing! ALL. THE. FEELS!

This is the story of Adam and Bex.

An age gap, best friend's sister romance that is going to hit you right where it counts.

Adam is just gahhhhh, the perfect blend of hero that you look for. He is sweet, he is protective, and he is fighting hard for his feelings for Bex and what that means for his lifelong friendship with Steve. But the heart knows it wants, and his wants Bex in all the ways.

Bex, oh she is a fireball. She has fought some battles, been through the wringer, and has come out a fighter and a survivor. She too has had feelings for Adam since she was young and always thought they were unrequited.

Past characters make their appearances known and just adds the "chef's kiss" to a well-rounded romance.

Ms. Hutchinson has a talent of melding sweet and sultry and making you swoon hard.

You better believe that I am going to make time to read all the rest of the stories she has generously given her readers.

Adam + Bex = *happy sigh*

I love these two to pieces, and seeing them (get) together couldn’t have made me happier. They are just so friggin' perfect for each other (and just so dang cute!), and they made me laugh and cry and swoon - in no particular order.

Loved getting to reconnect with the Soaring Bird crew too, especially Steve.

Thank you from the bottom of my hopeful romantic heart for this lovely and heartfelt story, Heidi! So... what’s next?

Brother’s best friend trope and STEVE is the brother!?!?! HECK YES! The couple is equal parts adorable and hilarious. If you’ve ever spent time in the food industry, then you will definitely enjoy the chaos that is Bec’s life as a pizza shop manager. Of course the rest of the soaring bird gang is on the sidelines, bringing the jokes as they watch Adam fear for his life.

What a great book! I was immediately swept away into the story of Adam and Bex and I stayed up late to finish the book because I had to know what happened! As always, Heidi writes such great characters that feel so relatable. I just want to hang out with them eating pizza and watching the Office.

I received this book as an advanced reader copy. I freakin loved this book! Heidi has written another gem and I had to exercise some self restraint to not finish it all at once. I loved Adam and Bex, loved the slow burn, and throughly enjoyed it. Bravo Heidi!

Spice- 🌶

Series- String Bird #5

Troupes- Brothers Best friend, forced proximity, childhood crush, biker boy, cinnamon roll hero age gap.

Representation- PTSD

CW- mentions of Sexual Assault

I have been waiting on a Heidi story with as much patience as I could muster, not caring what it was as long as I got the hit of dopamine. But I was not exception this. This Brother best friend biker boy book hit me about as hard as the New TS album. In fact they hit at the same time. Whether Heidi had any intentions to or not, I will never be able to separate the two. If you want the ultimate reading experience for this book read with “The Life of a Showgirl” playing on repeat. The vibes are the same with Bex and Adam so in love without realizing!

As for Bex and Adam, I could not have loved them more. Hard working, optimistic Bex suffering from PTSD from Sexual Assault the little sister of Adams best friend Steve whose love story is happening in tandem with Bex and Adam. Adam the son of Hollywood royalty looking for someone that is it for him. Turns out Bex’s childhood crush wasn’t so one sided after all.

I loved everything about this book and bonus the door is not slammed in your face! Heidi continues with her open door spicy scenes, hitting all the right notes! I haven’t flown though a book like this in a while, Heidi kept it 100 and delivered!

Thank you Heidi Hutchinson for the advanced copy, all opinions and Taylor Swift worship is my own.

I didn't realize how much I missed the Soaring Birds gang until I opened Caught a Vibe. They are a unique group. Over the past books they all found their happily ever after. Adam Sawyer has become the ninth wheel. He is odd man out.

He is always there to help the others. He just does it, no questions asked. Steve asks him to check on his baby sister, Bex, while he is away. He needed her safe. Adam can stop buy and grab a pizza just to say hi.

Caught a Vibe is a radical roller coaster. Adam wants to be keep Bex safe. Adam wants to avoid her. He needs to protect his heart. He needs to protect his friendship with Steven. Steven's little sister is off limits. Waiting see the each and every decision was so entertaining. Adam's interactions brightened my day. Adam's battle with his conscience was explosive. Little did he know that Bex had been crushing for years.

The connection is there. Avoidance is futile. The slow dance to love is a beautiful reminder of anything that is good is worth fighting for. Shocking moments had me reading faster, not wanting to wait to see how they play out. Adam has been searching for his future. He just needed to open his heart and let joy in.

This was a sweet and a bit goofy slow burn romance. I enjoyed their chemistry and how comfortable they were with each other. The pacing felt a little off because they reached ultimate best friend comfort status super quick, then just stalled there for most of the book.

One strange thing about the story was that the only times we see these characters are when they are together. We don’t see what happens between their visits or with their friends when not together. Nearly the whole book was basically them talking at home, or talking while riding. By the 60% mark, that was getting really old. I wanted a subplot. A side quest. Anything to break up two characters just hanging out and nothing else ever happening. Then suddenly everything was happening all at once. Problems/conflicts/issues were over remarkably quickly.

One small gripe I had was how the old grandmas spoke about young men. I know it was meant to be funny, and a sign that they are interesting and outgoing older ladies, but just for a second turn what they said around. If old men were saying those exact words about young women, they would be called creeps, or gross. But because the roles were reversed, it’s meant to be okay? NO. NOT OKAY.

Overall, a good book that I will read again.

Bex and Adam are my new favorite couple.
Caught a Vibe, Heidi Hutchinson's latest Soaring Bird book, has all the feels!

Why do I love this book so much?

There's ooo la la off limits romance (brother's best friend/best friend's little sister with life long secret crushes!), pizza (so much pizza!), motorcycles, movie stars, best fictional friend group ever, good timin' grannies and then there's that trip to Iceland!

Best of all, this book makes you want to go full "goblin mode" and read and reread every Soaring Bird book and binge watch all your favorite shows, especially THAT one...

Great writing, fun, interesting, likeable characters and good feelings that stick with you. Must read!

This is one of my favorite reads of the year. I love Heidi’s writing and how it takes you on a beautiful journey and feels like a warm hug.

So many amazing tropes - secret crush ( by both), brothers best friend, female entrepreneur and more.

Bex and Adam are a bit opposite but so much alike. Bex is determined, strong but also needs to give herself a break. The perfect person comes a long to help her …Adam. He is such an amazing man. Caring, selfless and a protector.

Their journey from friendship/crush to lovers is incredible. Love their motorcycle rides, him helping at the shop, and their late night confessions. They help one another heal from past pain.

“You know love isn’t transactional, right?” - Adam to Bex.

“There's no crying in pizza”

Adam and Bex are such a cute couple. They are both outrageously witty and painfully honest. The book is a fun read while also dealing with deep and difficult issues. Bex is a strong female lead and Adam complements her perfectly. I am not a fan of open door books, but I make an exception for Heidi Hutchinson’s as her writing is always amazing. This book is great even as a standalone. The best part of this book is how immersive it is, the scenes in the pizza shop are my favourite.

Soaring Bird, Book 5 – A steamy, slow burn, brother’s best friend romance with humor, heart, and late-night motorcycle rides.

Such fun! This works as a standalone - it's my first read in the series, but I am so intrigued by the friendship group I'll have to go back and read the others. Adam Sawyer offers to look out for his mate Steve's youngest sister while Steve is on his honeymoon. Bex Erikson runs a pizza shop and dreams of owning it. She works very hard and has a quiet life outside of her job. Adam is a mystery to me - he is in his thirties, friendly and loyal. He's very wealthy, but doesn't work and enjoys cooking, his motorcycles and helping out his friends. And he really likes Bex so he comes around more and more often, helps out in the store, takes her on night time motorcycle rides and generally makes her life better. Bex has been crushing on him forever, so what's not to like?

Bex and Adam are so great together! They are in sync with music tastes, senses of humour, habits and interests and there is such comfort of having known each other since they were kids. There's a villain in the wings, but it's all relatively low angst, and mostly good people getting on with their lives.

Secondary character Steve is a gem and you get to see a bit more of his relationship as well. I read this in one sitting as I was so keen to find out how Bex and Adam would work things out.

A good time!

Thank you Heidi Hutchinson for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
