Glenna Mason is the pen name of Glenna Mason Pope Harris. She was fondly called Glenna Mason in her hometown of Richmond, Kentucky, the setting of her six (so far) mystery romances. The first of her mystery/romances,
IN THE RAFTERS
A MILLICENT/LUTE MYSTERY/ROMANCE,
is now available on kindle and Amazon print. Glenna is also concentrating on her second love (after horses and central Kentucky) and that is British literature, with a special emphasis on Jane Austen's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, the most extraordinary work in the English language. Due to her love of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet and her joy at their final arrival at a lasting romance for the ages, Glenna has crafted three JAFF novels of her own. The first, MR. DARCY AND THE LADY WITH THE FINE EYES, and the second, MR. DARCY'S FOREBODING, are currently available on Amazon kindle and in paperback through Amazon.

Cloyingly sweet, no angst and the ladies giggle, guffaw, trill and titter numerous times. Darcy and Elizabeth fall in love with no problems. Then he proceeds to not only aid in their schooling and/or debuts into society but also outfits the Bennet sisters with wardrobes and lends them jewels from the Darcy collection. Soon he and Elizabeth are playing matchmakers successfully.

Meanwhile Darcy goes headlong into horse breeding and brings Mr. Bennet, the Colonel and a young man from the streets of London into the business, adding Netherfield and another Hertfordshire estate to the needs for that business. The Derby and Ascot top wins top off this story.

I have to add that it was very difficult to keep reading this tale as it just didn't keep my interest. I put it down many times and read some other book. With no angst and happiness around every corner there was nothing to really capture my mind. Even Wickham and Caroline find a path that will not intersect ODC's in the future.

Enjoyable story in which Darcy completely out does himself by acting out of his normal stoic self. He actually first sees Elizabeth in Lambton and falls in love at first sight with her fine eyes. He returns the next day to the Inn and asks for an introduction. Totally out of character, but so great a start to their relationship. Darcy purses her in Lambton, rescues Lydia from Wickham and takes her to Uncle's home in London, and arrives at Netherfield to continue wooing his hearts desire - Elizabeth. Happy happenings with many of the primary characters in the story. Same villains appear as well more obnoxious than original Pride and Prejudice story. Strong relationship between Darcy and Mr. Bennet enhances this story in a way no other variation has. Pleasure to read.

Great Story

I loved it but I was sick of the villains keeping into the story. I liked the relationship between Darcy Bennet and Lizzy, Mary Bennet was great. Well what can you say about Bingley, weak! Good love story.

I have had this book borrowed from Kindle Unlimited since 2015 and I finally was able to finish it almost a decade later. The book isn't horrible, just too sweet and uncomplicated to really push the reader along. Things fall into place so easily that there was no real conflict or drama to draw me in and have me reading this book like a madwoman. There were a few times I even thought about stopping after getting halfway because ODC was already together and it just kept being more unnecessary minutiae. The upside is I finally read one of the first books I ever borrowed with KU and can keep another book on standby for 5-7 years. 🤣

While i enjoy reading most P&P variations just for the fact that i get to read about my favorite characters again, i find myself struggling to finish this book. It is juvenille & out of character, especially Darcy. Here Darcy is depicted as frivolous, one could almost forget that he is a master of Pemberley and that he has many obligations and responsibilities to the people of Derbyshire. He runs off here and there, organizing balls & hunts & whatnots, eager to dress up & marry off his sisters. Darcy wanting to give Mary a makeover? Come on.... He pays more attention to Elizabeth's sisters than his own beloved Georgiana. Forget his duties at Pemberley, he simply MUST buy all the ladies new dresses and entire wardrobes! He is also a businessman here, although the entire ordeal seems unreal. Then Darcy suddenly becomes clingy towards Mr. Bennet and takes him on as a father figure. Mr. Bennet! The man who ignored his responsibilities, his wife & children for 20 something years!
I can't stand the kissing scenes, and the "may i touch your neck now, Fitzwilliam?" scenes. Seriously?! Those were not tastefully done and comes across as being vulgar.
While i like many of the ideas the author presents in this book, i find the execution much too saccharine and unrealistic. Everything works out too perfectly, too easily, & too fast. How everybody just pairs off, the new business venture set up promptly and is wildly successful and profitable, everyone becomes wealthy, Kitty & Georgiana's debuts, & Darcy's quest on finding them husbands. Too many ideas & plots crammed into one long book, i think.
Another thing that gets on my nerves is how the author provides way too many unimportant details. Who cares if Mary dances with Bingley on the third or fourth dance, really? The detailed account of Darcy & Mr. Bennet's business ventures are tedious as well as repetitive.
And then there is Wickham. His role in this book feels forced, almost like an afterthought. Sort of like the author feels that he should be included in the book somehow. He comes and goes, each appearance is short and pointless. Why is he even there? What's the point in bringing him in the story?
Needless to day, i do not recommend this book and will not be reading any more of this author's works.

Enjoyable, but needs to be revised.

This story starts where Mr Darcy sees Elizabeth in Lambton with the Gardiners and goes back the next day wanting an introduction. The author has played with the timeline a bit (not unwelcome) to make things plausible. Even though this is not usually what we expect from Mr Darcy, it is nice to see how he could react differently in a different situation. I was a bit taken aback how Elizabeth was both welcoming yet prickly with regards to Mr Darcy, looking for motives when she just met him.

The story takes us on a journey of ODC's courtship and into the lives of their loved ones. For the most part, I enjoyed the story, but there were some inconsistencies that I just could not overlook.

I am giving the story a 3 1/2 star for several reasons. It started out well, I loved the concept that Mr Darcy fell in love at first sight of Elizabeth's, I loved how their courtship was fairly low angst, I enjoyed Mr Bennet and how he stepped it up especially after having met Mr Darcy, and how the story was very detailed. I loved how expeditiously Lydia was taken care of.

What I did not really like was that there were periods of modern language used. Yes the relationship between Mr Darcy and Mr Bennet was sweet, but it was a bit over the top and was not always plausible in my perspective. Even though I liked this Mr Bingley I felt he was still a bit of a push-over with Caroline. There seemed to be lots of info that was repeated often throughout the story, almost as a filler, I didn't think most of it needed to be so repeated. I also felt that at times the plot seemed to move slowly, but other times it seemed to jump around and arrive at situations fast. At times the story was entertaining, and yet at other times it was bland. There needs to be a bit of editing to be done to tighten it up a bit.

I would recommend this story with more fervor to all JAFFers if the author did an editing revision.

I've enjoyed some very good Pride & Prejudice adaptations such as: Steady to His Purpose by Cassandra B. Leigh and a very enjoyable trilogy An Assembly Such As This, A Fitzwilliam Darcy Novel by Pamela Aiden, which I recommend. Having Darcy and Elizabeth randomly meeting at Pemberly while she was on vacation with her Aunt and Uncle, did not give the characters any substance to build their relationship on. Everything was too happy and too perfect. And when Caroline or Whickham started any trouble is was squashed with in two chapters. Read these if you

In this Pride and Prejudice variation Darcy sees Elizabeth for the first time at Lambton with the Gardiners and falls in love/lust straightaway. It doesn’t take long before Elizabeth feels the same. Then Lydia decides to elope with Wickham. Can any one have a happy ending.
Too much of the giggling of Elizabeth, Catherine and Georgiana and not enough about Mary. Very little angst but still an entertaining story. A re-read.

I am the author of the romance about Mr. Darcy and his Lady with the Fine Eyes. I thank all of you who have read it. I love Pride and Prejudice and so this was a pleasure to write. I hope more of you will give it a look. It is in print and on kindle.
Thank you for your comments (especially the good ones) and know that I took them to heart and corrected the proof copy with them in mind. Hence the print is an improved version. I did not receive word of the misspelling of prostrate or the unintended substitution of mute for moot in time. I am sincerely sorry for these errors. It is amazing that each time I (an English teacher) read through the draft I found previously overlooked mistakes.
Please read my Darcy/Elizabeth love story. It is heartwarming.
I am going to publish a second Regency romance in the summer, The Pleasure of Mr. Darcy's Love. It is not the promised sequel(as I actually penned it first), but it is another declaration of my gratitude to Jane Austen for her great romance. Thank you, Jane.

Life and loves

This was a story in which Fitzwilliam Darcy made sure he found out who the lady was. Elizabeth fell for Darcy s charm, but made him court her before she said yes. Through the courtship and marriage (because you know this happens), many different people come together in which makes this story so good.
Darcy is more open, friendly, and poorly delightful. DarcY family, Bennet family (except Mrs Bennet and Lydia), Gardiner family, and Fitzwilliam family with Lady Anne De Bourg become interwoven through the whole story. This variation was amazing. Highly recommended to read

Wonderful!

A perfect new story made to sit beside the original P&P we all know and love.
I genuinely enjoyed every moment I spent reading this.

Meh.....

It’s Kentucky racing culture with P&P names. The language is somewhat juvenile and I didn’t like the dismissive attitude towards Mrs. Bennet.

For lovers of all things Jane and happy endings

I gave it a five because occasionally I need to read something without all the unnecessary tension. This was a bit off in historical accuracy and language however I enjoyed all the positive problem solving and good will. Most Jane sequels have way too much extreme Mr Wickham acting up. This included all the characters and exactly how one felt things should have been handled if life were perfect. Good relaxing read

A charming and heartfelt *Pride and Prejudice* variation that stays true to Austen’s spirit while adding fresh perspective. Glenna Mason captures Darcy and Elizabeth’s dynamic beautifully, with witty dialogue, emotional depth, and just enough romantic tension to keep you turning pages. A delightful read for any Austen fan looking for a satisfying reimagining!

Good story

The writing was not as good as story. If I read one more thrilling laugh or chortle I would have given it two stars. Writing immature and a little sappy but a good story.

DNF. Gave up at 15%
Darcy is so OOC he’s ridiculous. Anachronistic language and behaviour more appropriate if set 150years later.
