Curves for the Secret Duke is a delightful addition to the Busty Bodice Club series. Lady Penelope Harrington, the youngest of the Harrington children, embarks on adventure in Scotland with her best friend from childhood, Mr Edward Thornton, only to find that they both have loved each other secretly for quite a long time. Watching the two of them come to the realization that they are meant to be together and get their Happily Ever After was really enjoyable and a good way to end the series.

This was a fun book to read. With cozy moments of intimate reflections between the main characters I feel that this is worth the read for an historical romance novel. The writer did an excellent job with adding the right amount of entertainment and funny moments. I loved Penelope and her personality. She was a woman who wouldn’t let anyone rain on her sunshine. Edward her knight and shining armor would slay anyone who would threaten her sunshine. Edward and Penelope are absolutely wonderful.
Their fake marriage was fun to read. My favorite parts of the story are when Penelope was mixing fashion with history and the continents around the world. How Italy and fashion came to one her conclusions I can’t even tell you. I give this book two snaps and a twist.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Curves for the Secret Duke by Janna MacGregor is one of a series of books by a variety of authors. The series, called the Busty Bodices Club, is based on sisters with busty bodices. The books are romances that are hot, or at least this one was.

Lady Penelope Harrington is the last sister who needs to marry. She has spent her life as part of a group, but now she is alone and feeling overwhelmed by her father’s last edict. Luckily her best friend is Edward Thornton. He is a tutor and certainly not at her level in the Tonne. Lady Penelope has come up with a plan and Edward is not about to let her do it alone, so they are heading to Scotland. That’s when things heat up!

Curves for the Secret Duke by Janna MacGregor was quick, hot and definitely curvy.

This is my 18th book by Janna MacGregor. I started reading her in 2020 and I really love her stories. She has good stories and great characters and the sex is pretty good. She actually has a few books I've put on my favorite books read list.

I liked Penelope and Edward. They seemed like a cute couple. Again super short read but good. I always like Janna's books. Looking forward to her next book.

I recently finished Curves For The Secret Duke by Janna MacGregor, and it easily earns a glowing 5 stars from me!

Janna MacGregor is such an amazing author. Her prose is snappy, entertaining, and utterly engaging from the very first page. She has a rare talent for pulling readers into her stories with characters who are so likable and well-drawn you can’t help but cheer for them. Every moment spent with them feels personal and heartfelt.

One of the unexpected delights of this book were the geography lessons woven into the plot. They were fun, clever, and completely unforgettable—adding an extra layer of charm and immersion to the reading experience.

Finally, the happy ending was so well deserved and deeply satisfying. It left me smiling long after I closed the book. If you love historical romances with wit, heart, and characters who leap off the page, Curves For The Secret Duke is a must-read!

Curves for the Secret Duke is another one of author Janna MacGregor’s delightfully romantic, funny and sexy stories set in the Regency Era. I love MacGregor’s books. She portrays The Regency as a time of beautiful gowns, elaborate, delicious meals, luxurious estates, non-stop social events for the ton. She also shows us the other side of this wonderful, majestic period in history, where society’s conventions and rules and mores were strict and unforgiving, for women at least. Where spending time alone with a man almost anywhere and being discovered meant you were ruined or instantly married, where almost any men had power over you: your father, brother, uncle . . . all could dictate what you wore, where you went, how or if you were educated, who you married.

But the best part of MacGregor’s books is that she has a knack for taking that setting and creating women who are smart, strong, courageous, know what they want – or don’t want – and may have a trick or two up their sleeve. Add a man who (naturally) is devastatingly handsome, sensitive, sweet, already head-over-heels and you have the perfect love story.

That’s what Curves for the Secret Duke is, a perfect love story.

A man could exert his power over you even from the grave and that’s exactly what Lady Penelope Harrington’s late father has done. She loved him dearly and was sure he felt the same. But then why does his will say must have a husband and live humbly for a year to inherit her fortune? How on earth is she supposed to manage that? Practically the minute her father dies, at least one sleazy potential suitor shows up. Ugh.

Penelope is often impulsive and emotional, but she’s also clever and resourceful and willing to fight for what she wants. And she has a secret weapon. That weapon is Edward Thorton, best friend from childhood who’s always been there for her and always will. It’s obvious he loves her beyond measure, but if that is the case why hasn’t he told her? Well, Penelope is a Lady and Edward is most definitely not a Lord. His father was a tutor on the Harrington Estate and Edward is now a tutor himself. And society will not allow that match.

Off Penelope goes to start her year of humble living, however that’s going to look, with Edward right beside her to protect and help her. She gets a job at her old boarding school, and to simplify things – in her rash, impulsive mind, anyway – says she and Edward are husband and wife. This situation has so much potential and author MacGregor takes advantage of every bit of it.

Traveling together, sharing rooms, trying to avoid the scoundrel who insists he wants to marry her (for her future fortune, of course), and wondering who that stranger is who is following them and how much danger he poses to Penelope. MacGregor reveals just who that stranger is and just what he wants in an interesting twist that could change everything.

I received an advance copy of Curves for the Secret Duke from the author as part of her review team. It was satisfying in every way: Edward’s tenderness for Penelope, her slow awakening to just how much Edward really means to her, their hilarious journey and fake marriage in Scotland, the dangers they must avoid, and the secrets no one had any idea about. I recommend it without hesitation; you will love it and all the other sweet, sexy, spicy, exciting books Janna MacGregor writes. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

The Busty Bodice Club has come to an end! I was very curious how Jana MacGregor would tackle the secret nobleman trope, since it can be approached in several ways. I ended up enjoying her take on it. Anytime I can get some light kidnapping in a historical romance, I'm here for it.

Thanks to Jana MacGregor for the complimentary ARC.

Lady Penelope Harrington, the youngest of the eight Harrington siblings, has finally received the task from her late father's will that she must complete to claim her inheritance. She must live humbly for one year and get married. Some might interpret that as marrying someone and then living humbly, but Penelope isn't about to sign up for a lifetime of slumming it, so she decides to tackle the two clauses separately. She'll spend the next year living humbly, teaching at her former boarding school in Scotland, and then she'll get married. But in order to get to Scotland, she'll need someone to travel with her.

Penelope chooses her best friend, Edward Thornton. He is the son of her brother's former tutor and has known Penelope her entire life. He's also been in love with her his entire life, but because he's a tutor, he doesn't have the means to keep a duke's daughter in comfort. Edward is very worried about what traveling with Penelope will do to her reputation, but she has a solution. They'll pretend to be married on the road... and in Scotland. Edward is initially shocked but has to go along with the deception to save Penelope's reputation. And if it means he gets to kiss her, that's not so bad.

This novella was absolutely ridiculous, and I mean that in the best way possible. We have childhood best friends-to-lovers, a random suspense plot, a terrible would-be suitor, and some kidnapping. That many elements could have gone wrong so quickly, but Jana MacGregor did a great job of making them all work cohesively.

Friends-to-lovers can be a bit of a yawn because it's not always clear why the friends can't be together. In this case, Edward really doesn't have the money to support a woman like Penelope, but that wouldn't have been enough to carry the story on its own, in my opinion. We needed higher stakes, and we got them through the suspense storyline. Our main characters are being followed as they head to Scotland, and once they arrive, the same man is spying on them. That added enough intrigue to keep me entertained and raised the stakes in what otherwise would have been too cozy a story to hold my interest. The fact that it culminated in some light kidnapping made it even more fun.

I do wish we'd had a bit more yearning from both Penelope and Edward, but it's a novella, so we're constrained by the format. Jana MacGregor gave us about as much as could fit into the story with the space she had.

This was a lot of fun and a lovely way to end the series. 4 stars.

Curves for the Secret Duke

I always look forward to reading a book by Janna MacGregor. Her stories have well-developed characters, drama, humor, emotions, intrigue, scandal, romance and more. I also like that Janna includes strong, independent heroines, hunky heroes and arrogant villains! (I actually laughed out loud at some of the dialogue and actions in this book!!!)

Curves for the Secret Duke is the 7th book (of 8) in the Busty Bodice Club series. Each book is written by different authors. There are 8 sisters with curvaceous figures — which are not favored at that time. Their dying father, Lord Harrington, has written letters to each one and they MUST successfully complete a task and marry before they can inherit.

Curvaceous Lady Penelope Harrington feels that she is not attractive and will never marry, which makes her inheritance important so she can live independently. Penelope’s best friend since childhood is Edward Thornton (the son of her brother’s tutor and is now a tutor himself. ) He has been in love with Pen for years— but feels his station is inferior! Despite their difference in stations, she treats him as an equal. (Both are secretly in love with each other, but won’t reveal their feelings.)

Her task is to live humbly for a year and marry. Fortune hunter Viscount Lord Draven visits her and insists she marry him. Pen decides she must leave London to avoid him. She accepts a teaching position at her old boarding school in Scotland. She asks Edward to go with her.

Quickly, they’re on a road trip to Scotland and chaos derails her plans. At Inns, they have to share rooms, hide their feelings, and pretend they are happily married. Edward suspects that a mysterious man following them is employed by Lord Draven. When they arrive at the school, Pen convinces Edward to stay — although he reluctantly agrees and continues as her “husband” to protect her.

And the plot thickens——the mysterious man, a kidnapping, shocking secrets --- to name a few! Through it all, Edward stays devoted to Pen. Can their unrequited love for each other be acknowledged?

Curves for the Secret Duke is a fun fast-paced romantic adventure to read. I easily bonded with Pen and felt part of this delightful story. I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion: I loved the story and enjoyed reading it!!

This series of the Busty Bodice Club has been such a fun series to read. This seventh book in this series is by a new author to me. It has great tropes that I love to read; class difference, friends to lovers, only one bed and pretend to be wed. That is a lot to pack into a novella! But Janna MacGregor does it without the story feeling rushed.

Lady Penelope is one of eight sisters each given a task to be completed before their inheritance can be received. Each of the sisters including Penelope has a curvaceous figure that is not the fashion at the time so she struggles with feeling that she is not attractive and will never marry, which makes her inheritance important to be able to live independently. She is a fun character who wears hats with tall adornments added to help make her look taller but it doesn’t add height to her appearance but they can be troublesome for other people.
Her father has given her a most unusual task and she’s not sure how to go about it. She has to live modesty for a year but she will have to get rid of pesky fortune hunter Lord Draven who wants to marry her and seems willing to stop at nothing to claim her.

Penelope’s best friend since childhood has been Edward Thornton, the son of her brother Charles’s tutor. Edward is now a tutor himself and has been in love with Penelope for years. But a tutor can never marry a duke’s sister so he would choose being her best friend than lose her, although he knows it will probably happen anyway when she marries.

Penelope has harboured similar feelings for Edward, he is her rock and has always been there for her. When she decides to take a job in a girl’s school in Scotland, Edward could not say no to Penelope when she asks him to go with her, what could possibly go wrong?

Let’s just say that there are plenty of surprises, a bit of drama and a happily ever after no one could have predicted. There’s even some steamy scenes that are really well written. There’s a lovely epilogue to finish their story.

I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from Janna MacGregor in the future.

I am absolutely loving the Busty Bodice Club series, a delightful collection from a talented group of historical romance authors. Each story follows the siblings of a noble family as they strive to fulfill their late father’s final wish to secure their inheritance. It’s clear he knew his children well—his request is both a challenge and a nudge toward finding purpose, and perhaps even love.

Curves for the Secret Duke tells Lady Penelope Harrington’s story. To inherit, she must have a husband, so she convinces everyone that her best friend, Edward Thornton, is her spouse as they travel to Scotland—sharing rooms and more along the way. Scandalous indeed! Edward, the ever-loyal son of a tutor, has loved Penelope for years and vowed to her late father that he would always protect her. When she asks him to escort her north, he reluctantly agrees, even assuming the role of her husband to keep her safe.

Penelope is a vibrant and endearing heroine. She hates being alone and leans heavily on Edward for support. Her love of extravagant hats perfectly mirrors her bold, colorful personality. It takes her far too long to realize that her feelings for Edward go well beyond friendship, and when the revelation comes, it’s as dramatic as one of her show-stopping hats.

Adding a dash of intrigue, Edward suspects that the man following them is in the employ of a villainous viscount who wants Penelope for himself. But could the mysterious pursuer actually be after Edward instead? Along the way, a kidnapping, shocking secrets, and unexpected twists keep the story fast-paced and engaging. Edward’s unwavering devotion—and his love for Penelope just as she is, curves and all—make the romance utterly swoon-worthy.

Curves for the Secret Duke is a charming, heartfelt, and delightfully cheeky historical romance that blends humor, suspense, and passion. Fans of the genre will adore watching Penelope and Edward’s friendship blossom into true love. If you’re looking for a feel-good romantic adventure with plenty of heart and a touch of scandal, this book is an absolute must-read!

Curves for the Secret Duke by Janna MacGregor
Busty Bodice Club Novella #7

~ Who knew that being best friends, going on a road trip, and pretending to be married would provide so much entertainment and a happily ever after for Penelope and Edward? ~

What I liked:
* Edward Thornton: tutor, son of a tutor, Penelope’s best friend, has loved Penelope for years, there for her for anything whenever needed, tries to be honorable, loves Penelope and will forever
* Penelope Harrington: youngest of eight sisters, propensity to wear over-the-top hats, believes her curves are unattractive, Edwards friend for years and has always loved him
* The chemistry between Penelope and Edward and that they were open and honest communicating in a mature manner
* The genuine regard, love, friendship, and care the couple had for one another
* The kissing practice times that Penelope requested to look more married
* Finding out who the man following them was, what he wanted, and how it changed their lives
* That I was able to shake my head and wonder what Lord Draven thought he would accomplish with his audacity
* The way Penelope taught classes with stories and ties to…fashion
* Meeting The Duke of Archer and the impact it had on Edward’s life
* That I could see the two of them were perfect for and with one another though I do believe that Edward was more book-wise and perhaps a better teacher than Penelope was
* Having now read six of the seven books in this series
* The author’s note at the end with historical background relevant to the story

What I didn’t like:
* Hawksworth’s high-handed treatment of Edward and his lack of regard for Penelope when Edward wanted to send her a letter
* The Duke of Archer’s behavior toward his youngest son and the loss it created for more than one character in the story
* That Penelope, at times, seemed rather immature and a bit clueless ~ perhaps she was, having come from the home that she did

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes, if the book sounded interesting

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I enjoyed this fast-paced, heartwarming “best friends-to-lovers” romance by a new to me author, which includes the following additional tropes:

- Road Trip
- One Bed
- Fake Marriage that accidentally turns into a real one
- „He falls first”
- It’s always been you”
- Class difference (at the beginning)
- Surprise identity

The well-written plot is action-packed, emotional, funny, and spicy. I really liked the main characters. Penelope is a bit spoiled, impulsive, and knows exactly what she wants—and she goes after it. I found her antics and teaching methods hilarious. Edward is the level-headed, protective friend who would do anything to make her happy. Their heartwarming interactions felt natural, the chemistry between them was great, and I loved how they looked out for each other.

Now that her sisters have all completed their tasks, it is Lady Penelope’s turn—the youngest and last unmarried Harrington sister—to fulfill her late father’s final wish so that she may receive her inheritance. Her task is to marry and live humbly for a year. Since she hasn’t found a suitable suitor, she decides to focus on the more humble aspects of her mission for the time being and resolves to become a teacher at Miss Eloise’s Finishing School for Exceptional Young Women in Scotland. To avoid being alone, she asks her best friend since childhood, Mr. Edward Thornton, to accompany her on her adventure. Edward, the son of her brother’s tutor and now a tutor himself, has long been secretly in love with Penelope, but due to their class difference, he knows he isn’t the right man for her; yet he is always there for her and is therefore happy to travel with her to Scotland. To protect Penelope’s reputation, they pretend to be a married couple, unaware of the consequences, and grow closer over time—until an unexpected turn of events causes Edward to suddenly vanish without a trace…

All in all, a satisfying conclusion to the series, which I really enjoyed and would gladly recommend to others.

I adore friends to lovers stories and this one is so much more than that. There's mystery, a stalker, fake relationship, hidden identity and so much more. I loved every minute reading this story!

Lady Penelope Harrington is the last of the sisters not married. She's a alone, well except for servants, in the big family house grieving her beloved father's passing. She receives a letter from her father's solicitor that says she must live a modest life for a year and marry if she wants her inheritance. Then Lord George Draven darkens her door with a preposterous marriage proposal. The man can't stand to even dance with her in public because of her generous curves. He's the worst of the males in the ton and she'd never agree to marry him and tells him so. Then her best friend Mr. Edwin Thorton arrives because of her summons just at Draven is leaving. Draven then threatens Edward to leave Penelope alone because she is his!

Pen and Edward have been friends since his dad tutored Pen's elder brother Charles. They became fast friends despite of the class differences between them. As they've grown they've just gotten closer. We find that Edward is desperately in love with Pen but can't consider marriage because she's a lady and he's just a tutor. After discussing the terms of her inheritance she concocts an idea to be a teacher in Scotland at her old boarding school. She thinks that should qualify as living modestly. She then insists Edward accompany her so she's not alone. Little does he realize she's told the school they're married so he can stay with her there! While on their way Edward realizes someone is following them. This starts an wonderful adventure where we eventually get a happily ever after.

Lady Penelope Harrington needs to marry and live humbly to secure her inheritance. She accepts a teaching position at an all-girls finishing school in Scotland. Penelope persuades her friend Edward to accompany her. She leads everyone at the school to believe he is her husband. However, the unknown stranger following them may reveal their deception. Will Penelope succeed in the task that her father left her?

Mr. Edward Thornton is the son of a tutor. He promises Penelope’s late father that he would always look out for her. When she asks him to act as her escort, Edward reluctantly agrees. He even assumes the role of her husband to protect her on the journey. Edward suspects the man trailing them works for a villainous viscount seeking to marry Pen. Who is the man really seeking? Penelope? Or could it possibly be Edward?

Penelope is an effervescent whirlwind with a love for ridiculous hats. I like her teaching style. It is a little out there, but it did capture her students’ rapt attention. What I love the most about Penelope is how she never cared about her and Edward’s stations. She treats him as her equals and knows that she can trust him.

Edward is such a sweetheart! He has always been Penelope’s staunchest ally, even with the differences in their station. He refuses to allow anyone to take advantage of her or hurt her. I love how Edward adores Pen’s full figure. He is quick to admonish her whenever she bashes on her curves.

CURVES FOR THE SECRET DUKE is the seventh book in the BUSTY BODICE CLUB series. Each of the seven stories are written by a different author featuring full-figured sisters. Novella in length, the stories do not take long to read. This installment is by Janna MacGregor, an author that I am familiar with.

This is the seventh book in the Busty Bodice Club series and features class difference, friends to lovers, only one bed, and fake wedding tropes.

The FMC is Lady Penelope Harrington, the youngest of eight daughters. To receive her inheritance from her late father, she must live modestly for a year and travel as a married woman. She and each of her sisters have curvaceous figures and as that is not the fashion of the times, she struggles to believe she can be happily wed. She wants to ensure she can live independently. One suitor in particular, Lord Draven, is pushy and rude and clearly after her money but gaslights her in every conversation. Penelope decides to take a position at a girl’s school in Scotland, and asks her best friend Edward to accompany her, aware that Lord Draven may pursue her. He seems hellbent on marrying her, but Pen is secretly in love with Edward, who is only a tutor and not an acceptable husband for a woman of her station.

The MMC is Edward Thornton, who is the son of her brother Charles’s tutor. Edward has become a tutor as well, and has been in love with Penelope for a long time . He chose to be her best friend and confidant knowing her could never have her
When he agrees to accompany her to her new position in Scotland, they find themselves not only stranded at an inn with only one bed, but also being pursued by a mysterious man. Has Lord Draven sent someone to harass and detain them even to the lengths of stalking them at the school, or is it something different?

This book is full of surprises. Some cheeky flirtation, awkwardness and yearning, sweet moments with Pen and her students, some well placed spice, a missing persons case, and a whirlwind conclusion that ends in a happily ever after.

These books and this family of women have been a joy to read, I hope you check them out!

I have been really enjoying the Busty Bodice Club series, this is the 7th book.

It's Lady Penelope's turn to fulfill her fathers last wishes. The only way she will get her inheritance is by completing her father's request.
She must live humbly and marry in order to inherit.
She has the perfect plan, go to Scotland and teach.

Penelope is fun, unconventional, and endearing. She isn't used to being alone, actually hates the thought.
She relies on Edward, he's her best friend. He's always close by, always there for her - she can't imagine spending a long time without him.

Penelope convinces him to go with her, she just knows she can convince him to stay as well, once they arrive.

Edward is very sweet, he is truly a wonderful friend, Penelope's ally in everything. He definitely puts Penelope above all else.
His best friend means a lot to him, more than she knows. He has loved and desired her for a long time but he feels she deserves better than a tutor.

He knows he shouldn't travel alone with Penelope, especially without a chaperone but he can't leave her alone until he knows she is safe. He gives in and agrees to her plan.

Them travelling together to Scotland requires them to share a carriage and rooms alone - quite scandalous, so they tell everyone along the way they are married!

and then they start practicing marriage...

Really enjoyable read with great characters, no drama, and some fun twists.

This story delivers a classic friends-to-lovers romance with a clever twist of deception and rising suspense. Lady Penelope Harrington’s impulsive decision to invent a husband in order to secure her inheritance sets the stage for a compelling and emotionally layered journey. The fact that she names her lifelong best friend, Edward Thornton—completely unaware of his long-hidden love for her—adds both charm and tension from the very beginning.

What makes this story especially engaging is the forced proximity trope done right. As Penelope and Edward travel to Scotland, sharing rooms and navigating the expectations of a “married” couple, their dynamic shifts in subtle yet powerful ways. Edward’s quiet devotion and internal conflict bring depth to his character, while Penelope’s obliviousness creates a slow-burn emotional payoff that feels satisfying rather than frustrating.

The added element of mystery elevates the plot beyond a simple romance. The presence of a shadowy figure following them introduces real stakes, and the gradual reveal that the danger may be tied to Edward—not Penelope—adds an intriguing layer of suspense. The final twist, hinting at a secret Edward himself doesn’t even know, leaves the reader hooked and eager for more.

Overall, this is a well-balanced story that blends romance, tension, and intrigue. Fans of historical romance with a touch of mystery and emotional depth will find it especially enjoyable.

Penelope Harrington needs a husband to secure her inheritance, so she does what any sensible, chaos‑leaning heroine would do; she names the one man who’s been pathetically, devotedly, hopelessly in love with her since the dawn of time - her best friend, Edward Thornton. According to the will, Pen must live meagerly for a year & she decides to teach young girls at her old boarding school. Suddenly they’re on a road trip to Scotland & the brilliant plan detonates immediately with sharing rooms, tripping over their feelings, & pretending they’re blissfully married while Edward tries not to spontaneously combust every time the curvy Penelope adjusts her hat.

Penelope, bless her extroverted little heart, teaches like a caffeinated whirlwind & barrels through life with zero awareness that she’s driving Edward straight into emotional meltdown territory. Meanwhile, Edward is out here being loyal, protective, & one snide comment away from declaring his love in the middle of an inn’s common room. Add a mysterious stalker, a fortune at stake, & Janna MacGregor’s signature flawless writing; tight pacing, no filler, no gratuitous steam, just pure character‑driven gold, & you’ve got a novella that is equal parts charm, & chaos......I devoured it, laughed out loud, & adored watching these two finally catch up to what the rest of us figured out on page one. That’s harder than he thought because he’s spent his entire life protecting Penelope. He’s also loved her for years. But when a mysterious stranger begins following them across the countryside, it becomes clear the danger they feared for Penelope’s fortune may not be meant for her at all.
An absolutely delightful novella. Penelope & Edward are best friends but both have loved each other for years, a secret they’ve never shared. I loved both Penelope & Edward she’s a hat loving extravert whose teaching style is different to say the least. Edward is totally loyal to Penelope & won’t hear a word said against her. There’s also a touch of mystery as they are followed on their road trip. A captivating book which I read straight through & loved it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

This is the final book book in the Busty Bodice Club and it was soo good!

This is my 3rd book from Janna MacGregor.. and it's added to my favorites.. this book is the true meaning of friends to lovers

Penelope and Edward have been friends since they were kids.. but it's grown into so much more than that.. he has been her constant since her father died, when her sisters all got married and moved away and what's more he always been just her friend, she hasn't had to share his attention because he sees her for who she is. And he accepts her as she is.

Edward has always been by her side and he hopes to always been by her side to protect her even if it means he has to be keep his distance so that he can protect his heart except she tempts beyond reason and she sees him unlike so many people..

These two characters you could tell from the beginning they were meant to be.. despite his humble beginnings as the son of a tutor and a seamstress Penelope still loved him and wanted him.. and he loved her just as much even if it may have been impossible for them to be together but they needed each other..

Once he became a Duke it was as if fate was playing a hand in their relationship. And putting them together..

This book had laughter, angst, and love.

I can't wait to read more from Janna MacGregor.

This was a diverting road trip romp with all the expected accoutrements.
What I did not expect was the fun twist that made Edward a duke!

Penelope is the youngest Harrington; a tiny curvy feather fashionista, bubbly and coddled but generous, and she hates being alone.
Edward is her forever best friend, a tutor’s son and a tutor himself; tall, dependable and devoted to Pen. So, naturally she enlists him to fulfil her late fathers last wish!

Close quarters make hiding his feelings for her nearly impossible, and their pretend marriage – for travel’s sake 😉 – inspire her to test the waters.

What I loved most about this story was that I could really feel how strong and longstanding their friendship was. They completed each other in every way – perfectly in tune, but with just the right pinch of awkwardness to make their big confession utterly adorable. And even when things go awry, and they’re separated, they trust their hearts. They worry, but they don’t doubt.
Pen’s creative approach to teaching geography was enlightening to say the least 😂 and the way Eddie handled the unexpected was rather moving as well.

A joyful, funny, lighthearted and heartwarming finale for this series!
Now, having read them all, I must say “hats off” to the late duke’s matchmaking skills! That man truly knew his daughters and loved them very much – and his tailormade tasks were most definitely a gift! What a precious way to be remembered by your children 🥹💝

An Enjoyable Read

I enjoyed this well-written, short story. Edward and Penelope had been childhood friends but their social circumstances were different and they felt they should not get closer than friendship. Penelope was a young lady, who was very well-endowed but was conscious of her curves. When Pen's father set her a task in his will, she tried hard to carry it out. She had to live humbly for one year and find a husband. Pen decided to return to her old school in Scotland, as a teacher. She insisted that Edward should travel with her. Edward was reluctant to do that but finally agreed. Their adventures, on the journey, lead to them growing closer. Their coach broke down and they declared that they were married, to protect Pen's reputation at the inn.
Edward's life circumstances changed dramatically and unexpectedly. Will he still want to stay with Pen even though they have not been married in England?
I liked the close friendship that Edward and Penelope had from a very young age. The story shows that appearances are not the only factor in a relationship, character and personality are important as well. Where other men might see Pen's curves as distasteful, Edward saw Pen's curves as part of her beauty. An enjoyable read.

Time for the youngest to find her HEA, the funny thing is he has been there right in front of her practically all her life. As with all her sisters Penelope has gotten her letter with her task from her beloved father. She must live humbly and be married in order to get her inheritance. Following her father’s suggestion she will travel to Scotland to teach at her old boarding school. The thing is she hates to be alone, probably due to the fact she has a lot of siblings. She convinces her BFF Edward, her brother’s old tutor son to escort her. Traveling with no chaperone will cause gossip and ruin her reputation, so she convinces Edward to play being her husband, her loving husband that is. Very trying for Edward since he has been in love with Penelope since she shared her cookies.
This was such a fun read, once again father was matchmaking from heaven. Love the touch of intrigue and how the author added a little mystery to the story. Thank you for this ARC given to me by the author. All opinions expressed are truly my own.

Wow, the reviews are super long for this short fun read. Am not sure I can add anything that hasn't already been said. Penelope and Edward have been best friends since she shared biscuits with him as a child. She is the last daughter to receive a letter from her late Father telling her what she has to do to receive her Inheritance. Only poor Penelope doesn't understand what he means. She is to marry and live humble for a year! Upset and confused she calls for her Edward to help her. Edward was asked by her father to watch over her. When she decides to go to the boarding school she lived at as a teacher to fore fill her Father's wish. Oh my poor Edward knows this is going to be a disaster but he can let her go alone either. What an adventure they are going to have. Secrets are learned, tons of funny witty banter about the hats was great. Also there is a mystery thar causes and hurt and doubt. Great story you wouldn't be able to put down. This has been a super fun series. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

The Busty Bodice Club series has been entertaining, with each young lady given a task by the late Duke of Kenbrooks in order to earn their inheritance. In this story, Penelope Harrington and Edward Thornton have been best friends for years, but even though he loves her, he knows he’s not worthy of her since he’s just a lowly tutor. When Penelope receives the task her father leaves for her after his death, it involves her marrying and living humbly for a year. She schemes to land a teaching job at a school in Scotland and talks Edward into going with her, where they claim to be married to make things easier for everyone. Edward is concerned with protecting Penelope after they notice a stranger following them, but he’s not correct about who is in danger. This was a fun story, with a somewhat irresponsible young lady and a very responsible but completely smitten young man, and their adventures in Scotland, who go from best friends to something much more.

Lady Penelope Harrington has to complete a task before she can get her inheritance." Marry and live humbly for a year." Hating to be alone she convinces her best friend Edward Thornton to come on this adventure with her. Reluctantly he agrees, since he did promise her father, the late Duke he would look after her. Pen's idea of living humbly was to travel to Miss Eloise's Excellent School for Exceptional Girls in Scotland and teach. Traveling together they are mistaken for newlyweds, and she decides that it would be a great cover to protect their reputations. Both realize they are being followed. Is it a suitor out to get her fortune? After confessions of their secret Love for each other they are set to fulfil her task. But Edward disappears. Where is he? Is he Hurt? Was it the stranger? Will she see him again? Many secrets and surprises are in store for them. One of the secrets is that her father knew what was best.

Another great story by this author about these sisters and their father's will. In order to receive her inheritance , Lady Penelope must be married as did her sisters. Not really wanting to be married as she just wants to be a teacher. So she lets people believe that she is married to her childhood friend, Edward Thornton. Edward is a tutor and has been in love with her for years. When she states that she and Edward are married , he goes ahead and agrees to help her. He does notice that there is someone following her and decides to go with her to Scotland. Edward feels that this man that is following them is hired by a Lord who wants her inheritance. Add a kidnapping , has lots of action, steam, twists, intrigue and a mystery. The characters both old and new are exceptional. Will keep you turning the pages and leaves you wanting more. Would recommend this story and the rest of the series to everyone.
I received this story and leave this unbiased, honest review.

Lady Penelope has received a challenge to complete in order to inherit, but that hasn't stopped a lecher from trying for her hand to gain access to her dowry. Penelope has no intention of marrying him. The man she wants to marry is her best friend, Edward, but he has no title.
To fulfill her challenge, Penelope decides to teach at the school in Scotland where she was sent. Edward accompanies her, but they pretend to be married, and there appears to be danger with someone following them. Edward worries she is the target and feels the need to stay in Scotland with her, continuing the ruse.
Turns out the stranger was searching for Edward and he was taken without time to give Penelope notice.
There are surprises to come, but no spoilers here. This is a delicious slow burn friends-to-lovers romance you need to read!

We have a beautiful and fun story in one Lady Penelope Harrington and Mr Edward Thornton who thinks he is just a tutor! He is a product of a tutor and a seamstress but he is so much more!
Penelope aka Pen wants to complete the quest from her father’s last letter to her! Pen has a serious hat fetish so living humbly will be a bit difficult! Edward has been smitten with Pen his whole life but knows he can only be her friend. There is a huge chasm in their stations.
But as the embark on this wild trip to establish Pen as a teacher at her old seminary her secret is revealed. But a strange man is also following them because Edward also has a secret and he doesn’t even know it! There are shenanigans and lots of laughter as Pen navigates teaching! This couple is absolutely beautiful! Bravo
I received an ARC copy for my unbiased opinion!

This book had some of my favorite tropes such as Fake Marriage, Best Friends to Lovers, Road Trip and One Bed that I always enjoy reading. It was absolutely a fantastic story and definitely did not disappoint!! I truly loved and enjoyed reading this book!!

I instantly fell in love with both Penelope and Edward’s characters and thought they were so cute and perfect for each other. I enjoyed the witty banter between them and how they both tried so hard to remain friends but finally confessed their true feelings for each other. The book was very entertaining, truly delightful, and the story flowed without dragging.

This is the final book in the Busty Bodice Club by multiple authors. It is a very fun and awesome series!! I highly recommend this book!!
