I honestly didn’t expect to like this book at all, I was really hoping that it would be good because I love Chloe’s music but I went in with very low expectations because nearly every book I’ve read written by a musician, booktuber, etc has been very lackluster for me (which is crazy because I write music and books too and they definitely go hand in hand). That being said, this book blew those low expectations out. of. the. water. This book was absolutely amazing!! I really liked the royal family and how close they all were. The plot itself was also just very unique and well thought out and executed. I was also not expecting to like the ending but I actually loveddd it. I think with the many mentions of the war and everything this book was set up super well for a sequel so I’m really hoping for one in the future!

I was worried about picking this up bc I hate reading books with female main characters written by men. But Patrick did a very good job not being weird!! I actually found myself very invested, and I LOVED how the different song lyrics were intertwined in the story. I would definitely pick up another book if Patrick decided to write again. Overall good time (although kinda depressing time also???) 4.5 stars

Patrick ima need like 10 more of these.

Okay here’s the deal with this book. It was good don’t get me wrong but you can tell that this is Patrick’s first novel. Like no hate I loved parts of it but it wasn’t completely whole, the world building could have been approved on. It was honestly a bit confusing at times because the universe wasn’t entirely explained but the book was still understandable. The plot was great and super interesting, and I thought Patrick did a good job fully fleshing out the characters and developing them. The sisterly bond between Vera and Ellie was my favorite part because it felt the most realistic to me. Overall I did enjoy this book and I hope to see more literary works from Patrick on the future!

I have to admit, I wish it had been a little longer. The story felt rushed at times, which made me a little sad because I really did enjoy it. I loved the family dynamics and the way characters weren’t always who they first seemed to be.

“You loved him, but he was not the love of your life. Bad tree, bad fruit.”

I really appreciated this line because it echoes a theme we see in Scripture, how the fruit of something reveals its true nature. It made me think about spiritual health, about how what we root ourselves in will eventually show. Aside from that, just because something feels like love doesn’t mean it’s good, or lasting, or from God. And that kind of discernment, recognizing the difference between what is good and what only appears to be, is so important in both life and faith.

Chloe and Patrick stop breaking my heart please.

This book was really good! I love how well the songs were interwoven into the story and the plot twists were definitely twisty and surprising.

Please write more books I will read it all
