A tight deadline. A diabolical disappearance…

Is his tortured mind playing dirty tricks, or is he about to write himself into an early grave?

And though he’s briefly disturbed by strange noises in the night, the frustrated storyteller blames alcohol-induced memory loss when he discovers a stack of pages he can’t remember typing.

Searching for answers to his newfound inspiration, Joe learns of a long-vanished successful novelist… and is stunned to spot her specter working away at his desk. And as the stubborn forty-year-old researches his family’s connections to her tragic tale, he becomes aware of a sinister and brutal truth… even as he yields to her unearthly seduction.

Arjay Lewis: actor, magician, and multi-award-winning author. I have spent my life as an entertainer, amusing people as a street-performer in the 1970s; a Broadway and casino artist in the 1980’s; a party performer in the 1990s and 2000s; a cruise ship performer in the 2010s.
Stories have always been in my mind, and I have been writing since the 1990s. My reason to write is simple: to entertain. I write the type of books that I like to read: murder mysteries, strange tales of unnatural gifts, odd happenings and horror.

“Why on earth did I want to play detective with a disappearance that was twenty years old?” Joe Riley asks himself in this story. “Because I had a ghost in my living room.”

Joe Riley is a novelist fresh out of a divorce, but on the same day he loses his house to his ex-wife, he inherits one: a cabin his uncle owned in the Poconos. Joe has many fond memories of visiting the cabin as a child, but he is surprised that it was left to him by his departed loved one.

Since he is now homeless, he decides to move in, and not even 24 hours pass by before something strange happens. Thus begins the novel Ghost Writer by Arjay Lewis, an entertaining and suspenseful ghost story of a writer’s experience living in a haunted cabin. But unlike most people living with a ghost, Joe’s experiences with this haunting range from a ghost co-writing his book at a typewriter to possessing another person who only wants to help the ghost find peace just as much as Joe does.

As Joe starts to adjust to the freezing temperature in his cabin and wakes up to the sound of typing coming from a typewriter in his living room, he starts to investigate. This is where his story takes an interesting turn; he learns that a woman who was an author disappeared in the early 2000s. I loved the variety of the characters he interacts with as he learns more about the missing author, who he believes is now haunting his cabin as a ghost.

But he is not content to just live with this haunting; he wants to know more about this ghost. And the more he learns, the more suspenseful and mysterious this story becomes. There were people telling him to “just drop it” when he kept asking questions about the missing author, and this made me wonder if they were keeping secrets or if they knew something about this author’s disappearance that they didn’t want anyone to find out. And when Joe discovers the horrifying truth about the author’s disappearance, he wants to go to the police, but even then, he is being held back.

This novel may be a supernatural suspense story, but the mystery really kept me reading it. I was hooked! It was impossible to stop reading this book, especially when there was a detective investigating Joe’s discovery and who kept hinting at clues and asking interesting questions. This story took on many surprising twists and turns, especially when a woman Joe is romantically interested in starts performing a cleansing ritual in the cabin, and the ghost reacts violently.

Every chapter brought new surprises, and many of them ended with cliffhangers. I kept trying to figure out the story as I kept reading it, and just like Joe, I kept trying to figure out who the guilty person was. I was drawn into this story, and the writing was so well-done that I was practically hanging on every word. The climax was a big surprise, and the story’s ending was very satisfying. I liked how all of the pieces fit together at the end, and everything was revealed.

Ghost Writer by Arjay Lewis is a gripping novel of suspense, terror, and mystery that will draw readers in with a powerful story of betrayal and intrigue. Filled with twists and surprises, it is a story that will keep readers turning the pages to uncover truths long buried and to find answers to questions left unasked. Fans of mystery novels, as well as ghost stories, may enjoy reading this book. It is certainly a unique story with an unexpected twist that will linger long after the story ends.

Arjay Lewis’s Ghost Writer is a haunting, twisting tale that begins with a bitter divorce and spirals into the supernatural. The story follows Joe Riley, a washed-up novelist who inherits his late uncle’s cabin deep in the Poconos. What starts as a man’s desperate retreat to escape his failures turns into a psychological unraveling filled with eerie noises, mysterious pages that write themselves, and the blurred line between inspiration and possession. At its heart, it’s about creativity, grief, and the price one pays when the muse turns monstrous.

This book gripped me right away. Lewis writes with an easy rhythm that feels like an old friend telling you a story over a drink. The voice is sharp, cynical, and soaked in the kind of regret that only comes from living hard and losing often. Joe’s bitterness feels real. His loneliness cuts deep. There’s humor too, dark and dry, that makes the pain go down easier. What I liked most is how the writing itself mirrors Joe’s mental decline. Sentences start crisp and clear, then grow jagged and strange as his sanity unravels. It’s the sort of book that keeps you awake at night, not because you’re scared of ghosts, but because you recognize the ghosts inside yourself.

The supernatural element creeps in slowly. At first, I wasn’t sure if what Joe was seeing was real or just his hangover talking. That’s what makes it so effective. Lewis never rushes the reveal. Every scene in the cabin feels heavy with memory and regret, every creak in the floorboard feels like a heartbeat. The book plays with the idea that creation and madness might be neighbors. I loved that. It’s not flashy horror; it’s quiet, psychological, and deeply human.

I’d recommend Ghost Writer to anyone who loves stories that blend the eerie with the emotional. Fans of Stephen King’s Bag of Bones or Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House will feel right at home here. It’s for readers who enjoy slow burns, flawed characters, and the unsettling feeling that maybe the scariest thing in the room is your own mind.

Arjay Lewis’s Ghost Writer delivers an intensely eerie and atmospheric twist on the classic writer's block narrative, making the term "ghost writer" chillingly literal.
We meet Joe Riley, a struggling author retreating to an isolated, inherited cabin to face an impossible deadline. His muse, however, arrives in the form of a spectral presence—a dark, forgotten secret from his family's history.
What truly sets this book apart is the sinister symbiosis between Joe and the ghost. As his novel takes shape, her deadly secret slowly unravels, blurring the lines between inspiration and obsession.
It’s a spooky, tightly plotted thriller that grabs hold and doesn't let go. With an utterly satisfying and compelling conclusion, you’ll find yourself turning the pages long past your bedtime.

Ghost Writer: A Supernatural Suspense Mystery, my seventh read from author Arjay Lewis. Another captivating, page-turning, well-written thriller with a touch of supernatural suspense, normally I'm not much into paranormal mysteries but these six reads by Lewis have me hooked. Reminiscient of Peter Straub & Stephen King Lewis has crafted a masterpiece of ghost suspense/murder thriller that kept me reading all night long! “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I eagerly look forward to reading more from this author, in fact Seduction In The Mind: Doctor Wise Book 2 is already on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

“I received an advanced copy and this is my honest review."
Funerals, family secrets and supernatural apparitions lead a writer's blocked author down into a dark place. Joe Riley is a best-selling author desperate for inspiration for his next big hit. A family cabin in the woods seems to be the perfect spot to escape mundan distractions. Secluded and alone, the night time brings inspiration of a ghostly and frightful nature. The story masterfully brings him back to the light of day as he unravels a decades old mystery.

Wow, what a story. when Joe inherits his uncle's cabin just as he lost everything in a divorce, he feels like he won the lottery. He is a writer and hopes spending time at the cabin will fix his writer's block. And how!!! Not only did he inherit the cabin but it's resident ghost who was a ghostwriter and author. I hated to put it down. This ghost story is a winner in my book. I would highly recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this my honest review.

What an excellent ghost story I found this to be. Arjay Lewis sets the atmosphere so well it is almost palatable. Slowly surrounding the reader to the point that it is a character in itself. There were definitely passages that I read like a mad demon because I had to know what was coming next. Beautifully paced, nicely done, will most likely read this again sometime down the road.
I received a copy of this book via the author and I voluntarily leave my opinion of the tale.

This book was different than my normal choice but I've been in a bit of a slump so I figured why not change it up. I saw it on a giveaway on Goodreads so I took a shot and ending up winning a copy! I enjoyed the writing style and I felt that this book grabbed me from the start. I was a little nervous how the supernatural aspects would be but they were well written without being too much. I can see myself reading another book written by this author

Let’s say that I ‘devoured’ this book in one sitting. I started reading and couldn’t stop. Engrossing, intriguing, layered. It goes beyond the typical ghost story as it reads as a crime thriller. A mystery masterfully paced full of twists and with a carefully crafted plot where everybody becomes a suspect, and a great character development with just the right pinch of erotica. You can ask more of a book. A must read.

Joe Riley inherits his uncle's cabin. It's perfect for his life as an author who is twice divorced and has to live alone. What he does not envisage is sharing the cabin with a ghost of a dead female author, Rebecca who helps him with his book but drains him of his energy. What does Rebecca want from him and how did she die? A gripping well crafted plot which highlights the frustration faced by the protagonist who suffers from writer's block whilst battling his own personal issues. The eerie atmosphere in the cabin has been well portrayed. I like the descriptive sub-titles.
