Returning home was never part of the plan for Callie Bernal, but when it's clear her mother's health is in steady decline, she returns to a place filled with memories she'd rather forget. Taking a job at her old high school feels like another unwanted step into the past, and places her directly in the path of Grant Stokes, the high school football coach.
Grant Stokes’ primary goal in life is to raise his daughter with the love and stability he never had. Between coaching, teaching, and parenting, his plate is full. But when forces beyond his control and the gentle persistence of his daughter keep pushing Callie into his orbit, he begins to see that maybe it’s time to make room for something more.
As Callie and Grant find themselves entangled in unexpected ways, old wounds resurface, and they learn that healing isn’t about forgetting the past, but discovering and creating new patterns of forgiveness and love.
Hopeful, romantic, and a bit nerdy, The Theory of Quantum Attachment is a story about unexpected connections, and the power of friendship, forgiveness, and the bonds we create.
Amber West is a Northeastern transplant dodging rodent sized bugs and sweltering heat in the jungles of Central Florida. When she isn’t battling the urge to pass out, she’s busy being a wife, mother, geek, and writer, in no particular order.
You can find her on Instagram & Threads (@ambernwest).
Callie is a smart, capable, slightly touchy woman who speaks fluent sarcasm.
She & Grant don't start off on the best foot. Fortunately, Grant is a really good guy & more patient than she deserves. Also fortunately, she figures out that she needs to do better as well, & their friendship begins.
Now normally books with politically correct stuff put me off, but even though I've never encountered such blatant misogyny despite being in a career dominated by men for decades, the author manages to keep things believable for the most part & doesn't dip into obnoxious lecture mode with it.
The plot is immediately immersive & engaging. The characters are well written & very much like real people I know. It felt very IRL. The dialog between the characters is absolutely the best part. I love the author's gift of banter & had a very difficult time putting the book down when I needed to.
The protagonists' find healing as well as love, & it left me feeling very happy & upbeat!
***Content: Clean romance - nothing graphic & no language issues.
There are some trigger warnings in the book - which is helpful, but only if you have Kindle Unlimited & didn't buy the book before learning of them. So I'll mention them for those who don't - if you consider this spoilery, stop reading now. ***POSSIBLE SPOILERS*** Potential triggers: Grooming & attempted r*pe, abusive parents, & abandonment
The world of romance is vast and always accommodating to whatever interests a reader may be seeking to find. If you are looking for a breath of fresh air, a source of light, a book that inspires hope, and a story to activate the “aww” part of your brain, this is it! This book is sweet and tender, wholesome, funny, features an adorable relationship between father and daughter, and has the potential to restore your faith in what a family can be and what a supportive partner is supposed to be.
Amber has the power to make you swoon without the characters relying on physical intimacy to validate and communicate feelings for each other all the time. I find the pure affection for Callie in how Grant talks to her, shows up for her, and just is a solidly good person to be the sexiest thing of all. Amber does that like a champion! It’s like when Mr. Darcy touches Elizabeth’s hand… ooh, where is my fan?! 😜 I loved this book and know it’s one that others are going to love as well!

Amber West has officially cemented her place in my top five favourite authors with her latest novel, The Theory of Quantum Attachment. She has this incredible way of creating characters and storylines that feel so familiar and relatable. The dialogue swings from witty and sassy to smart, caring, and genuinely heartfelt, something I always enjoy.
Even weeks after finishing the book, I’m still thinking about the characters, replaying scenes in my head, and wondering what’s next for them. Amber’s storytelling is so seamless and vivid that you can’t help but feel like you’ve stepped straight into the pages yourself.
To readers who wished Luke and Lorelei would just learn to communicate, who appreciate a good Star Wars reference, and who like reading about characters that feel as real as your own friends, you’ll love The Theory of Quantum Attachment! Amber ate and left no crumbs. Period. 5/5 ⭐️’s (P.S. I nominate Grant Stokes for Man of The Year 2025)
Slayed. This book slayed. Amber West did it again! I've read everything by her and always love it, but this has to be my favorite she's written. I read it over the course a day because I couldn't put it down. I love Grant! Man of the century? I think so! Also, I'm sucker for an age gap. It wasn't mentioned a lot, but when it was it made me happy. Go read this book!
