A clear and well applied exposition of the short episode in 2 Chronicles about the prophet Micaiah. Especially helpful and encouraging to pastors and all gospel workers.

This just didn't click for me. Using New Testament terms and concepts on top of Old Testament individuals and was a bit of a stretch. For example, Old Testament kings were not pastors even though they were metaphorically seen as "shepherds" via many of the prophets.
There are some good truths in this book, but I don't think they were the intention of the original authors of the text. The book is trying to be too clever and a stretch with the application. The principles are there, but it was not the intent as to why Kings and Chronicles were written. With a narrative like 1 Kings 22, an interpreter can become so eager to draw a Christological or pastoral pattern that the exposition starts outrunning the text.
A legitimate Christian reading can connect Micaiah’s faithful witness to Christ and then to faithful ministry. But those connections should arise after the narrative’s own theological burden has been established. When an author builds elaborate correspondences, ironic reversals, or ministry applications that the text itself does not clearly emphasize, the result can feel ingenious rather than exegetical.

A great little (100 pages) book about...well...a forgotten prophet. Many people don’t know (or remember) the story of Micaiah (NOT Micah) from 1 Kings 22 and 2 Chronicles 18. In four chapters, formerly expositions/talks, Christopher Ash unpacks the story, draws principles and applications from the text, points it all to Christ, and uses it to especially encourage pastors. But any Christian will benefit from this little gem of a book, and I highly recommend it!

Outstanding from cover to cover. A model of engaging writing and careful exegesis. I thought it fitting that Dale Ralph Davis endorsed it heartily as it reflected much of his own style, wit, and insight. A joy to read, and a much needed word of reminder and encouragement to preachers of the gospel. A MUST read for young men who want to preach.
