Karen McCall had stopped searching. After years of heartbreak, disappointment, and delay, she surrendered her desire for marriage at the altar of obedience, choosing faith over striving and peace over pressure. Just when her heart had found stillness, an unexpected message from Ike Lamar, a childhood classmate, disrupted everything she thought was settled.
What began as a simple reconnection soon grew into something deeper, a friendship marked by undeniable chemistry and spiritual alignment. Yet surrendering was not easy. As the past collided with the present, Karen had to face the tension between guarding her heart with wisdom and hiding it out of fear.
Can two hearts shaped by waiting step into love without forcing what God is still forming? And what if God had been orchestrating every moment from the very beginning?
Waiting Hearts is a tender, soul-deep story of seasons of waiting, divine timing, and a love that does not compete with purpose but completes it. As Karen dared to hope again and Ike learned to love with intention, they discovered a truth worth holding
This book truly owes me nothing. This, I would say is one of the best Christian Romance I have read this year. Characters✅. Karen and Ike, two beautiful and strong characters that were written to showcase their individual personalities in the best of way. I also liked reading about the zoom sisters and Michelle. I enjoyed how each one of the characters in Waiting Hearts were expressed. I didn't miss any of their inputs to make the story a superb one.
Plot✅ Well detailed and captivating. The story kept me awake wanting to know what happens next. It was unputdownable.
Despite not being a voluminous book, I liked the pacing, as I still got a grip of the story and got into the heads of the characters. I liked the ending, but I sort of didn't want the book to end😁😁.
💥Some notable quotes in the book that resonates so much with me, that kept me a pondering over are; 📌Fear is a thief. It steals the beauty God is trying to give us. 📌What you do while you wait determines how you will walk when the promise arrives. 📌Letting go is less about timing and more about obedience.
💥Lessons learned from Waiting Hearts are from some of these quotes. This book is such a reminder that God is in your waiting, He sees and He knows.. I'll recommend this book any day. It's such a worthy read.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
Waiting Hearts is a soul-stirring read , a tender prophetic love story about waiting hard and trusting God’s timing. Karen’s journey from worn hope to fulfilled promise left me encouraged and deeply moved. I totally recommend.
I felt challenged in how I should frame my review as I know it was influenced by the author’s own waiting process. I don’t want to disregard the author’s lived experience that she would testify as God’s fulfillment of promise, however I will approach this as just a review on the work as literature.
IMPACT: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I do appreciated the portrayal of the waiting process for women. I felt aspects of it to be quite relatable and did give me moments to stop and pray for my own process.
CHARACTER AND THEIR DEVELOPMENT: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Being able to see Karen’s journey so closely reminded me at times of myself and thoughts I have wrestled with, but I did struggle with the earlier stages of the character’s relationship. I guess I felt concern that she opened communication and meeting up with him while knowing there was a girlfriend. Ike’s indecision in the beginning rubbed me the wrong way and the fact that he decided only to break off the waning relationship after meeting Karen did not feel good to me. It was really giving “I am sitting in this relationship until the real one comes along”. Karen went through the pruning process that singleness had to offer in quietness and focusing on God…Ike went from one girl…to the next. Even when he inquired about her relationship status, it was fair game for Karen to clarify his but she did not. “Karen’s been mature about it[the fact that he was in a relationship]. I’m sure she’s seen our pictures on Facebook, but she hasn’t acted differently. She’s seems to be focusing on our friendship, and that means a lot. Friendship is the foundation of anything meaningful.” I don’t know if I would have called it at that point just friendship. As a reader seeing both sides of it they were getting emotionally wrapped up in the middle of unclear relationship statuses. I think Karen not clarifying, isn’t maturity.
PLOT DEVELOPMENT: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The insertion of the dream that warned of counterfeits actually had me prepped for Ike to be that counterfeit honestly. That is what I was expecting. The questionable character decisions mentioned above had me expecting it. I think the story did lack the tension of a climax of a face off with a major antagonist (whether be a person or a concept/way of thinking). I think even writing in Ike’s character being held accountable for the way that relationship started in indecision and sorting out feelings between two women could have been written in. I think I have heard enough and experienced enough real life stories of men hanging unto a relationship or juggling their options while women are single minded on the one they are attracted to. I wish to see stories of men being more decisive and also having their moments of solitude to the Lord.

This book truly ministered to me. Reading Waiting Hearts felt like sitting down with a wise mentor who continually pointed me back to Christ. It gave me clarity, peace, and hope as I wait for the relationship God has for me. If you’ve ever wrestled with singleness, timing, or preparation for marriage, this book will meet you right where you are.
Waiting Hearts isn't just a love story. It's a book written for everyone out there who's in their waiting season. Perhaps you're waiting on a promise from God, not necessarily marital. This is for you.
As believers, it's common to enter a period in your life where, on the outside, it seems like nothing is changing. However, Karen and Ike's story is a reminder that even in the quiet, God works behind the scenes. Right from the little, unexpected places, His hand is always there, weaving and shifting.
Karen and Ike found their way back to each other after years apart. Karen had been waiting on a prophecy she had received, but in that waiting period, she had to learn to go through the process with God by her side. Teaching her to lean on Him, sharpening her discernment, and healing her was a journey she had to embark with God. She learns that waiting isn't a waste of time. Rather, an important box of lessons needed to be learnt in order to carry that promise when it finally dropped in her hands.
I dropped a number of my favourite quotes from the book in one of my previous posts, so check that out because those are important words that might help the person reading this. Share them too. You never know who needs that breakthrough.
Ike and Karen's story is one I'd describe as "Silent love." The love that doesn't make noise, but deeper than you can imagine. A love woven in purpose, calling, and fulfilment. I felt at peace reading their story.
I learned a number of things from this book regarding relationships and other parts of life. I'm so honoured to have been a part of the hype team for Waiting Hearts and although it saddens me to see it cone to an end, I rejoice because the release of this book is just the beginning of a legacy.
The author has left something I can describe as a 'manual'.The words and experiences she has imputed in this book make for a beautiful experience for everyone who comes across it.
Thank you to the author for an ARC copy of this book. I can't wait to see how far Waiting Hearts goes❤️
Imagine getting a prophecy about your future relationship with someone that you've not heard from nor seen in a very long time... and then you're told to seek the face of God in waiting for that prophecy to be fulfilled. Quite deep, right? I know!
For someone who is also in her waiting season, this hit deep for me. The author showed us Karen's vulnerability, her days of weakness, her days of strength, her days of trusting God, and believing the prophecy will be fulfilled at the appointed time even when it seems slow
I love the flow of past and present...the author took on us a journey from how and when it all started till the present moment... it made the story more seamless to read.
Another thing I love about this book is the quotes! omg! the quotes will pass a message of hope, peace, and love to every heart! You can't read this book and not jot down or reflect on something. It will definitely catch your attention. I would have shared some of my faves, but I want you to read it and get yours.
All in all, waiting hearts is a soul stirring, faith uplifting book everyone should read. I highly recommend it!
Waiting Hearts was so an emotional and heartfelt read. From the very beginning, I was hooked.
Waiting Hearts by is such an emotional and faith-filled read, it honestly felt like God’s promises wrapped in pages. And I absolutely loved this book.
It follows the story of Karen and Ike,childhood friends who drifted apart but were brought back together in God’s perfect timing. What began with as a prophecy for Karen, eventually unfolded into a beautiful love story, one that is not rushed, not random, but orchestrated by God Himself.
At first, Karen doubted the prophecy she had received and was unsure after a while of waiting, but as the story unfolds, you see how everything aligns just as God planned, smoothly, powerfully, and purposefully. Their love isn’t based on fleeting feelings; it’s a connection rooted in divine timing, obedience, and trust.
This book is a must read for anyone waiting on God for direction, for love, or holding on to a promise or prophecy yet to be fulfilled. It’s a gentle reminder that God’s timing is perfect, even when it seems delayed.
📚Review: Karen Oke’s *Waiting Hearts* is a moving and faith-centered love story that beautifully illustrates the power of surrender, patience, and God’s perfect timing. The novel follows Karen McCall, a woman who, after years of heartbreak and disappointment, finally lays down her longing for marriage in exchange for peace and obedience. Just as she finds contentment in her singleness, Ike Lamar—a childhood classmate—reenters her life with an unexpected message, stirring emotions she thought she had put to rest.
What unfolds is a tender journey of reconnection, friendship, and the slow bloom of love shaped by faith. Oke masterfully balances the spiritual depth of waiting with the sweetness of romance, creating a story that resonates with anyone who has wrestled with surrender and hope. *Waiting Hearts* is not just about love between two people—it is about trust in God’s plan and the beauty of promises fulfilled in His time. Highly recommended.
A Spirit Inspired book by a true Woman of God! This book was so inspirational!
Each chapter began intentionally with a verse that introduced the theme of the chapter. It was such an amazing way for Karen to bring The Light into each chapter!
This book follows the remarkable journey of a God fearing woman who trusts HIM to write her love story. And her God’s Best man who meets her intentionally with prayer and patience!
The story included themes of: 🤎 Feeling chosen 🤎 Recognizing your worth through God 🤎 Surrendering for God’s Best! 🤎 How God uses the most unlikely things for His glory!
The writing style was poetic and beautiful! It inspired me to surrender my future husband and to continue to pray for him! It also reminded me of the beautiful journey of becoming who God created you to be before your marriage begins! As well as, aligning your heart with how He views love and marriage!
100% recommend this book especially if you’re in a season of singleness. This can be such an inspiration!
Waiting Hearts is a book for the one (girl or guy) who's been waiting on God for a promise. This book centered on the dynamics of romantic love but I believe it's more than just romance. A time comes when you have to trust God with His Word and timing because as He has said it, it'd come to pass as long we remain in Him. This book highlighted some things to me and more and more, I'm aware that there's work to be done, there's more trusting I can trust with God. A read for anyone who wants to see that God's Word will never return to Him void ❤
Waiting Hearts is a prophetic love story about trusting God, holding on to His promises, and preparing your heart while you wait for His word to come to pass.
This book is for every believer in a waiting season, those still holding on, still believing, still trusting that God is working even when they can’t see it. Because He always is. This story will stir something in you, heal what you didn’t know needed healing, and remind you that God’s timing is always worth the wait.
This book gave me soo much to think about. There were lines, quiet moments, and prayers that just sank deep and stayed. I truly enjoyed the lessons, the reminders and most importantly the little things I want to carry with me. It was truly a beautiful and faith-filled story that I enjoyed soo much
God still writes the best stories. God’s word never fails. If He said it He will do it. Thank you for sharing tgis beautiful story with the World. Can’t wait to rest the next one.
You know those books that don’t just entertain you but also minister to you? 🥹 That’s exactly what Waiting Hearts did for me. I picked it up expecting a cozy Christian romance, but ended up journaling like I was in a heart-to-heart mentorship session with God. 📖💭
Karen McCall isn’t your typical romance heroine. After years of heartbreak and waiting, she lets go, surrendering her dreams of marriage to God. 💔✨ And then… just when she’s finally at peace, an unexpected message from Ike Lamar (hello, childhood classmate turned swoon-worthy man of faith 😏) shakes everything she thought was settled.
Their reconnection starts as just rekindled friendship—a few texts, a few shared prayers. But the chemistry? Undeniable. The spiritual alignment? Chef’s kiss. 💫 Still, Karen’s journey wasn't merely about falling in love; it was more about learning to trust God’s timing even when her heart starts racing ahead. What if the wait wasn’t punishment… but preparation?
✨ Things I absolutely loved:
💞The scriptural quotes at the start of each chapter. I highlighted so many verses, I might as well have done Bible study. 😂📖
💞The depth of the themes of the book. This wasn’t fluff; it was faith, wisdom, and emotional growth.
💞The mentorship and prayer emphasis. Karen’s spiritual discipline was both convicting and inspiring. 🙏
💞Side characters like Michelle and Karen’s mom? They deserve their own shout out! 💕
Waiting Hearts is a gentle reminder that God doesn’t forget. He’s working behind the scenes, weaving love into your story right on time. If you’ve ever felt stuck in the “waiting room” of life, this book will hold your hand and whisper, “The wait is never wasted.” 💖
