Alright, I got suckered into the series for one more go around. But now I really do need a break from Alyssa Wyatt.

This installment was better than the rest. This one gave me a twist I genuinely didn’t see coming, it was dark.

But my qualms remain the same— the overuse of the same words and phrases, the unchanging and sort of underdeveloped characters. Five books into a series, I should know a lot more about Alyssa than her brother was a serial killer and she likes coffee.

And there was a gap from the last book, small, but noticeable. The wolf dog was offered to the victim but wound up living with Alyssa and we never got to find out if the girl from the last book just wasn’t up for a dog or really anything. Just the casual mention that now Alyssa had two dogs.

I guess I just wish these books weren’t so… clumsy. I enjoy the pace and I enjoy that they read like good episodes of criminal minds but I just wish there was a little more refinement in the writing style.

I’ll be back for the last two books when they go on sale. For now I’m going to move on to some other things before I get bored.

This is the first series I’ve read continuously and while I admittedly enjoyed them, it’s time for a pause.
