Vile Variables
The story, having 50,000 odd words, revolves around four persons: Kartik,Rohan,Meenakshi and Roshni. They study at a MBA college in the city of Bhubaneswar,India.
Kartik feels that he is a misfit for the MBA course as he is being unable to cope up with the pressure of the course. He secures low grades in some of the subjects and this keeps him at the tenterhooks always. He doesn’t feel confident about himself. On one occasion he plans kidnapping of the daughter of the professor who has given him low grade in a subject and on the other occasion he finds himself in a brothel after being humiliated by his other professor.
Rohan is roommate of Kartik. He is at ease with the MBA course. He believes that students from B class Business schools can also compete with the top grade Business school students. Furthermore, he is in love with Meenakshi, who studies in the same college but Meenakshi loves other guy of the college.
Meenakshi is in love with Shantanu but gets cheated by him towards the end of the story. She treats Rohan, Kartik and Roshni as her best friends. She has a troubled past that she shares one day with Rohan.
Roshni is roommate of Meenakshi. Kartik loves her but hesitates to express it to her. She used to love a guy but he left her because she had developed Vitiligo.
