First of all, I felt like the title of this book was a bit of a misnomer. While a pleasurable approach to food, body, and movement is certainly the main topic (and the reason I picked up the book), the "weight loss" title seems like such a narrow aim. But perhaps that was exactly the point -- to find the women stuck in a punishing paradigm/relationship with their bodies and show them the way of pleasure, play, love, and ease.
While I was already well-acquainted with most of Jena's pleasurable living thesis from prior books (Pussy; Women, Food & God; Women Who Run With The Wolves), it was nonetheless helpful to see the principles of the feminine reiterated and applied to a topic so many women struggle with. My relationship with my body -- my "female animal" -- definitely deepened as I read and tuned in. I'm excited to keep deepening that relationship.
The emphasis on the stereotypical ideas of femininity made me roll my eyes in the beginning, but the parts where she mentioned science and research kept me interested. The author suggests pleasurable activities such as taking a relaxing bath, getting a massage, and telling yourself "I love you" to help promote weight loss. I'm not sure how well this approach will work, but I like the philosophy, and stress management can't hurt.
