From USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard comes a new STANDALONE, full-length MAFIA ROMANCE novel.
I was born into the Cosa Nostra, so I should be used to the blood, violence, and constant threat of death, right? Wrong.
Every time one of the men I love gets hurt, another piece of me fractures beyond repair. But the moment I see the man who owns my heart fall, it annihilates me.
The fear of losing Christiano forces me to the edge of my sanity. I shut down and push him as far away as possible, convinced distance is the only way to keep myself from unraveling. Christiano is as cold and merciless as his father, raised to rule the Cosa Nostra with an iron fist. Obsession runs just as deep as power in his bloodline, so no matter what I say, he won't let me go.
Refusing to marry him doesn't drive him away. It changes him, making him an unforgiving and ruthless man who will use force to keep me exactly where he wants me. I hide my weakness behind lies, but they only seem to feed the darkness in him. Like the predator he is, he watches me, waits for me, corners me. Every explosive encounter strips away my resolve until there's almost nothing left.
The threat of the five families being torn apart is the only thing that finally makes me give in to his advances, but as I say my vows to Christiano, I know it's only a matter of time before he realizes I'm not the perfect mafia princess he thinks I am.
What will happen when the capo dei capi discovers I'm too fragile to be his Cosa Nostra queen?

Well, I did give it a try. I just skipped two chapters because those are steamy times, and they don't matter to me.
Ngl, the chemistry was nowhere to be found. We didn't even get a flashback of them dating or how they fell for one another. Their dating was told in passing rather than being shown in detail. I think we're supposed to believe that they really fell in love during the three months they were together. Then we’re suddenly taken to the supposed engagement party, followed by the attack, and then a separation that happens off-page, leading us to the present time. So believing their romance was kind of hard to do right from the get-go.
Then I really had a difficult time connecting with Sienna. I could normally sympathize with the characters I read, but this time, for some reason, I just couldn't. She has a lot going on, and I somewhat agree with her that she isn't the right woman for him. But this is their story, so there's nothing I can do about that. I also don't like the fact that up until this point she's still hiding her condition from him. I'm not even sure when she's going to come clean about that. I dislike lying in general, and lying by omission is no exception.
And Christiano is way too controlling (imo), but then again, that probably comes with the territory; he's the capo dei capi, after all. His personality didn't resonate with me. He can be really intense at times, especially when it comes to Sienna, but I could see why some readers would love him.
Anyway, it didn't work for me, but it might be someone else's cup of tea. I hope this reaches its intended audience, though.
==============================
Notes:
I quickly went through it, so I'm sure there's something I overlooked. But feel free to let me know if I was wrong or I missed something while skimming.
— He knew he loved her since he was 19 (she was 22 at the time, older than him), and yet he claimed that the last time he had sex was when he turned 21. He said that's when he realized he only wanted one woman (the h). — So, during the two years that he knew he loved her, he was still sleeping with other people??? — On the other hand, idk about her. I'm not sure if she's a V or not (it wasn't mentioned or maybe I skipped it??), but she said they hadn't slept together yet, and she asked to wait until they got engaged. — They dated for three months before they got engaged (H - 22, h - 25, at the time) — Something happened that was why she broke things off. They've been separated for seven years in the present time. Both are celibate.
This is why I don't want to go in blindly, but curiosity gets the best of me. I'm stopping for now. The anxious girly in me doesn't want to deal with unsafe stuff (if there is any).
I don't even know where to start. I was so excited to read this story, but there are a couple of unnecessary plot holes. But I'll cut it short. If she had admitted to him at the start that she had this whole story would not even have a hundred pages.
Christiano is the definition of unhinged and cold. He was raised to rule after his father, so it’s expected of him, but I really didn’t like how much he snaps at people, And when Sienna refuses to marry him, it doesn’t push him away, it changes him. He becomes more ruthless.
Sienna has so much to deal with. She’s hiding how fragile she really is and keeps pushing people away because she feels like a burden.
This was a quick read. I always enjoy Michelle’s books, but this one felt a bit off it was just.. not it.
No sé, no me agrada.
Safety- both celibate for 9 years. Separation 7 yrs. Editing this now that I'm on my computer and I was reminded about this in Jens review. It does say he was in love with h for 3 years (since 19) and then later it said he hadn't been with anyone since after his 21st birthday so it did kind of annoy me but I was already just happy that he was celibate during the 7 year separation. I also thought they were both virgins because it kind of read that way until maybe 35-40% maybe. Not sure. h said she hadn't been with anyone in 9 years after H told her the same.
My rating is only for Christiano who carried the whole story on his tattooed-shoulders. Sienna tired me with not telling him what was wrong with her (you will have to wait 80% into the book) I didn’t relate to Sienna much. I understood her struggle but she also suffered from the “body betraying syndrome”, meaning each time Christiano touched her she forgot whatever she was saying about not wanting him. And yes I agreed with her, she is too weak to be a capo’s wife. After the attack in the first chapters nothing else happened.
Things that annoyed me: The story gap is 7years (well sometimes 8 or almost 9…)but it’s safe (no cheating/no ow….) but still 7 years??? And Sienna did absolutely nothing during this time.
The girl almost hurt herself with a dart 🎯???
Of course Sienna was a Virgin while Christiano had one single experience right before confirming Sienna is the one!! Just why? In this contest, a dual-V would have been great, especially as Christiano was younger!
He is a capo at 22???
Everyone is called aunt or uncle which gave weird vibes, like they marry btw cousins.
I'll never get enough of Michelle Heard's posessive MMCs. I loved that Christiano took it up a notch with his more direct approach to a reluctant Sienna. The forced marriage element was one of my favorite parts of the story.
Sienna experience trauma in her past with Christiano and her anxiety is definitely heightened being with him again. The author did a good job taking care of the mental health elements of the story and I loved seeing Sienna work through that past trauma.
Overall this was a really good mafia story! I loved the fight with the Irish and Christiano's brutality. It was so satisfying seeing him go from the capo to soft for Sienna.
Opens with their engagement party. Irish shoot up the party. Sienna freezes and Christiano runs to her, getting shot in the process. She has fallen in love with him and is deathly afraid of anyone she loves getting hurt.
So afraid that she has a mini breakdown and tells C she can’t marry him. She leaves for her Grandparents place.
Story picks up 7 years later! Neither have moved on at all. S is on 9 anxiety meds a day. She loves him, but feels she’d be a liability. C has turned into a brutal monster. Never with her, his mom, sister or niece and nephew.
C has decided he is done waiting.
There is mafia torture and such, but between the main characters it’s very sweet.
Safety
Sienna asked to wait until their wedding night to be intimate.
Both totally celebate during separation.
He’s loved her since he was 19; however the last time he has sex he was 21.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I am SPEECHLESS. Just when I thought it COULDN’T GET ANY WORSE, this author manages to surprise me… in the worst way. SAY IT WITH ME: STOP USING MENTAL HEALTH AS A CHEAP PLOT DEVICE. Not everything is justified by “drama.” Not everything can be excused with a “plot twist.” MENTAL HEALTH IS NOT A GIMMICK. It’s a complex, serious reality that deserves RESPECT. So please, STOP PUBLISHING STORIES THAT EXPLOIT MENTAL HEALTH FOR SHOCK VALUE.
Cute but boring… I don’t like weak fmc 🥲 I m not asking badass fmc for all my dark Romance books but at least one with a backbone.
Sienna lacked character and depth. I sometimes had the impression of reading the story of a little girl who, despite the few years more than the main male character, was just hiding and crying. I regretted that this volume was not about Valentina who stole the show despite her few appearances. It's a shame. I expected a little more from this couple. I loved the previous volumes but this one didn't touch me like the previous volumes...
I’m really disappointed. I hate DNF books, but this is the first one of the year. Impossible to continue. The chapters from Siena’s POV were so repetitive that even though they were short, they became exhausting. It had everything to be a great story, but it wasn’t well developed. I don’t know how it ends, but I honestly doubt it’s good.
I was a little hesitant to read this because I am someone who doesn’t usually read a reverse age gap romance. Age gap? Sign me up. Reverse age gap? Hmmm I don’t think so…but I adore Michelle Heard’s books so I was actually intrigued and excited about reading Fearful God.
Genre/Tropes: Powerful MMC vs Introverted MFC Opposites Attract Forced Marriage OTT Protective & Possessive Hero MMC that never gives up Cameos by old favorites in the Kings of Mafia series
Fearful God was a quick read with Christiano as the ruthless male protagonist and Sienna as the female protagonist. I loved their chemistry! I liked Sienna, she wasn’t my favourite but I liked her. Christiano on the other hand? Loved him. When he said “She eases the storm inside me. Without her, there’s only darkness.” I swooned! The longing and protectiveness of Christiano is *perfection*
This was a frustrating mix of almost great and why are we still here. Christiano is hands-down the strongest part of this book - obsessive, emotionally intuitive, decisively mafia-boss coded, and surprisingly tender when it matters. His devotion never wavers and some of his scenes (with children, during her panic episodes, and his emotional vulnerability) genuinely landed for me.
Unfortunately, the book completely lost me with Sienna. I never fully connected with her and her repeated refusal to communicate, even after it’s made abundantly clear that Christiano is safe, understanding, and willing to adapt, became exhausting rather than angsty. The constant cycles of panic, intimacy, and withdrawal stalled the relationship instead of developing it, and the time jumps only diluted the tension further.
The 'reveal' makes sense emotionally, but it comes far too late and doesn’t justify months of avoidance, timeline inconsistencies, or the prolonged silence. Once the truth is finally out, the story continues to lean on the same conflict, which drained what should have been cathartic emotional moments. What ultimately sealed the rating for me was how easily the central conflict could have been resolved. A simple, thoughtful solution is eventually introduced that directly addresses Sienna’s fears, and realising this could’ve happened much earlier made the angst feel artificially stretched.
There are good bones here: a compelling MMC, dark mafia vibes, and flashes of genuine tenderness. But the pacing, FMC characterisation, and overextended miscommunication dulled the impact. I finished it, but mostly for Christiano.
My first 5🌟 read of the year is here! I enjoyed it to bits.
Christiano Falco was obsessed with Sienna and I was obsessed with them! This book was everything, I want a good mafia romance to be. It had deep love, strong familial bonds, wonderful secondary characters, danger, heartache, spice, some action and an utterly obsessed hero.
Christiano was obsessed, determined and completely unhinged. He never give upon her and waited for her for years. She was his safe place and I loved the way he made adjustments for her after he came to know about her phobia. There were some poignant moments and I enjoyed the angst too.
Safety: both were celibate during separation and faithful to each other after they got engaged.
I had such a wonderful time with this book and can’t wait to read the next. I’m already itching for a reread.
-Forced Marriage. -Reverse age gap. -Unhinged and obsessed hero. -Mental health rep. -TW, absolutely recommended and KU.
I received an advance review copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
MY BACKSIDE IS NUMB!!! I sat at our table and read FORCEFUL GOD from cover to cover because I couldn't put it down. Author Michelle Heard has written another mafia bestseller. Her secret ingredient?? The most possessive and obsessive MMC that I have ever read worked to claim his woman and treat her like a queen. I loved every page, every word, and every character in this opposites-attract, forced-marriage, he-falls-forever romance.
Simply put, I loved Christiano and Sienna’s story.
Being born into the mafia way of live doesn’t automatically guarantee that one is inured to it. For Sienna, it ramped her anxiety onto high until one incident tipped her over the edge and she had to escape from the pressure. An event that was meant to celebrate the love between her and Christiano changed the trajectory of their lives instead. Her fear was too debilitating and it pushed her to the extreme edges of sanity. As parents, do we force our children to stay and fight, or do we protect them and hope that therapy and time will help them heal. Sienna’s parents protected her, but time didn’t heal.
Christiano knew exactly who Sienna was and obsessively loved her anyway. He knew something was up but she and her parents stayed quiet. I understand that anxiety might be seen as a vulnerable weakness in the Mafia world, and I might’ve felt more antipathy towards her in what I thought was a selfish disregard for his depth of feelings had it not been for the gift of Ms Heard’s writing in communicating the extreme level of Sienna’s suffering.
It didn’t stop my heart hurting for Christiano that she’d had any doubt of his feelings for her. Afterall he’d been gloriously enamoured of her for years and I loved that he was a man who’d stayed faithful to his feelings of love that had never left him. His sense of loss was palpable and left a deep hole in MY heart!!!! 💔 Check this;
“What’s the use of having a soul when it’s been torn in half? She’s out there enjoying her life without me, while I sink deeper and deeper into the darkness she left behind after she tore my heart from my fucking chest.”
Seriously, 😭😭😭. He’d used that time of enforced separation to become a ruthless Capo, waging war on the family who had dared attack another family during a celebration when women and children were present.
As always, Ms Heard had me crying into my drink while I was reading FORCEFUL GOD. These deadly and ruthless characters of hers love their woman obsessively and will go to the wire for family and each other. For them, showing love and respect was not a vulnerability but a strength. Possessive and obsessive, Christiano was next level extreme in wanting to claim Sienna as his wife, and warned her as such;
“I will never move on. You need to stop this (...) before it causes a war between the families.”
I also have to add here that I love finding what I think may be the inspiration behind the title, in this case FORCEFUL GOD;
“It’s time for you to stop this (...) so I can put my ring on your finger.” “What happens if I don’t?” Any warmth she’s making me feel fades away until the monster she’s helped create stares back at her. “Then I will take you by force.” Her lips part as fear bleeds over her face. “You wouldn’t risk the family for me. There’s too much at stake.” My tone is cold and unforgiving as I say, “You have no idea what I would and wouldn’t do.” ... “Are you really going to force her?” Nico asks while he watches me in the rearview mirror. “Yes. Eventually” I’ll do anything I have to do to make Sienna mine."
As an aside, I loved reading about Christiano’s parents Damiano and Gabriella, and once I’d finished FORCEFUL GOD I was motivated to hit their book GOD OF VENGEANCE straight afterwards and I adored Damiano’s obsessive protection of Christiano’s mother, Gabriella along with his own mother, so it was easy to see that Christiano really was a chip of the old block. It was little wonder that his father had understood his need to claim Sienna and supported him (within reason of course!), knowing she would be treated with the upmost of love and respect.
And in case there was any doubt that Christiano wasn’t consistent about his intentions, he again reminds Sienna to make sure she understood;
“I will burn the Cosa Nostra to the ground for you, Sienna, so think twice before you run to your father and brother for help. While I love the family, it is nothing compared to what I feel for you. I will destroy anyone and anything that dares to stand between us, without hesitation and mercy. I refuse to be denied what’s mine.”
Phwoar!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is it about the obsessive possessive alphas that we love so much in romances such as this??? Sensible women would run, mafia romance readers love it, and when writers of Ms Heard’s calibre create these heroes, we’re all here with our hands for the koolaid!
Yep, the writing of Ms Heard is so addictive and one book will never be enough! FORCEFUL GOD is another perfect addition to her Kings Of Mafia romance series. I loved every book and highly recommend them as guaranteed great reading! 5-Burn-it-all-to-the-ground-Stars✨🌹•*✯
“Mi valiente princesa. Te ayudaré a combatir tus miedos.”
From now, this book is my favourite. I absolutely loved it. I felt so bad for Christiano and Sienna, especially Sienna. I felt relatable what happened to her. I just want to hug her AAAAA 😭
Manifesting enzorosie cameos. - FINALLY ENZOROSIE CAMEO. OMG. Two scenes. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR UH A MONTH. I'm getting greedy for them. Okay, I wasn’t REALLY up for remo & valentina but we are getting them. I'm quite excited. Sienna is sweetheart <3. Who is georgi pairing up with? 🤨📷
So here's the thing, and it PAINS me to say this, but lately these books have not hit like the earlier stories did. I was so looking forward to Christiano and Sienna's book but it fell somewhat flat for me. Yes, chemistry is great. Yes, Christiano is the essential bad boy famia MMC that gives off touch her and die vibes. Yes, there are tender moments where he supports Sienna and makes her see she isn't weak but so strong.
However, where is the storyline other than Sienna has a mental illness that she's hiding from everyone except her parents and doctor? 70+% of the book is Sienna hiding her illness, Christiano talking about forcing her to marry him, and Sienna running from him. Christiano is dealing with all sorts of big bad things but it's just a sub plot that has no effect on the actual storyline of him and Sienna. Then, when the truth finally comes out, it's almost like Sienna is over her phobia instantly. Once simple solution and her nerves are calm, she starts telling people about her illness. It was like a switch was flipped and we needed a resolution and HEA quickly.
This is not the type of books I'm used to from the author. I almost cannot compare her earlier work to some of the books in this series. So many missed opportunities here, in my opinion. Sure, we got to see Samantha help Sienna through her ordeal, but what about Franco in papa mode. We get just a couple glimpses of him and none of it was in papa bear mode up against Christiano. I always want to see more first gen couples, but especially the men as dads. We got that from Damiano for Christiano, but not the other way around.
I hope the next book hits better because this left me unfulfilled and that's saying something because I am a huge Michelle Heard fan.
