Rachael lives by the seaside in the north west of England with her family and two very enthusiastic spaniels. I listened to this in the busiest time of Christmas lead up, so I was very distracted. But it was a sweet read, spending some time in the Scottish Highlands where good friends Polly and Harry want more but are reluctant to spoil it.

Super star social media couple attend the hotel, and the story progresses, as does the relationships with them and the locals. Ivy and Ben decide they’d like to marry at the hotel, providing a great opportunity for the locals to help out.

Ivy is busy documenting her life on Instagram and all the rest; this way of living has its downfalls, as she discovers the longer she stays at Applemore. She learns lessons as does Polly and things fall into place.

This is a series which I had no trouble connecting with, so as a stand-alone this would be fine, though I imagine the characters would be more heartwarming had I gotten to know them earlier.

Die Zutaten für diesen Roman sind klassisch: ein kleines Hotel in den schottischen Highlands, eine Renovierung, verschneite Landschaften, eine Liebesgeschichte - und das alles noch an Weihnachten! Harry Robertson will sein traditionsreiches Hotel modernisieren und über den Winter schließen, doch als die bekannte Influencerin Ivy eine Hochzeit an Weihnachten plant, steht plötzlich das ganze Dorf Kopf. Unterstützung bekommt Harry von Polly, seiner besten Freundin.

Ich mochte das winterlich-weihnachtliche Setting in den Highlands. Auch die Idee, das ganze Dorf in die Hochzeitsvorbereitungen einzubinden, fand ich charmant. Leider konnten mich die Figuren selbst nicht so richtig überzeugen. Harry, Polly und Ivy blieben mir zu glatt und vorhersehbar. Die Handlung plätscherte oft dahin und war sehr berechenbar – ein klassischer Wohlfühlroman, aber ohne große emotionale Tiefe oder neue Ideen.
Trotzdem: Wer in der Adventszeit einfach ein bisschen winterliche Romantik und Highland-Charme sucht, wird hier sicher auf seine Kosten kommen. Für mich war es insgesamt solide Unterhaltung, aber ohne bleibenden Eindruck.

Finished the last of the Applemore series, a sweet read. I’m glad polly got her happy ending.

This is the fourth book in the Applemore series but can be read as a standalone like I did. Polly is the youngest of the Fraser siblings and has had a crush on Harry, who runs the Applemore Hotel, for as long as she can remember. But she thinks Harry only considers her as a friend and gets the impression her brother, who’s Harry’s good friend, would not like them to be together. And Harry is the same. He silently loves Polly but does nothing, believing she only thinks of him as a friend and that her brother doesn’t want them to be together.

As an adorable couple who’re social media influencers come to stay in Applemore, the whole village thinks they’ll be snobby and demanding, but they turn out to be quite nice and want to have their wedding there. The problem is that the hotel is about to close for renovations. As other mishaps occur they eventually open up beautiful Applemore House for the wedding.

I read this as a standalone but had a little trouble keeping up with all the characters who had been introduced in previous books. I’d probably have enjoyed it a bit more if I’d read the other books. I enjoyed the romance with Polly and Harry but there wasn’t enough chemistry between them. But, I really liked all the descriptions of the village at Christmas and the sweet relationship between Ivy and Ben, the social media influencers. I liked the book enough to want to go back and read the rest of the books in the series.

Su veikėjais susipažinau prieš tai skaitytoj daly - The winter cottage. Ir nors ši jau 4toji serijoj, visiškai nejaučiau jokio informacijos apie veikėjus trūkumo. Miestelis toliau gyvuoja savo ritmu, ruošiasi Kalėdoms, viesbučio savininkas Haris planuoja restauruoti jį, o geriausia draugė Polis organizuoja kalėdinę mugę ir vis varvina seilę dėl Hario 🥰

Bet viskas nėra taip banalu, kaip gali pasirodyt iš pirmo žvilgsnio. Hario ir Polis draugystė labai graži nuo mažų dienų ir tikrai supratau, kodėl nei vienas nesiryžo anksčiau rodyti iniciatyvos. Tačiau gražiausia man buvo miestelio bendruomenės tvirtybė ir tarpusavio bendravimas. Toks šiltas, nesuvaidintas, be jokių piktų minčių. Absoliučiai jokio negatyvo šioj knygoj. Klausant jaučiausi tarsi apsisupus šiltu, pūkuotu pledu ir gavau tai, ko tikėjausi iš kalėdinės istorijos. Pateisino mano lūkesčius 100% 🎄❄️👌

This is the fourth book in the series and so the focus shifts to the fourth and final of the Fraser siblings, Polly. Although she is the youngest, she bucks the trend by being just as high-achieving and hard-working as her older siblings, with the success of her farm shop. Where she has been left behind though, is in the realm of romance (considering each of the other Frasers has been paired off in the preceding books). With a dawning realisation that she has feelings for her best friend, Harry the publican, Polly is beginning to get itchy feet about her whole life.

While this is a Christmas story, apart from the odd mention of trees and markets, it didn't really feel OTT seasonal like some of these books tend to. It progressed the greater Applemore story a little further and satisfied my curiosity about Polly. The series doesn't end here, but I think I am finished with it for now.

I listened to the audiobook. Oh boy, nothing much happens in this book! It is a bit repetitive, but there is really nothing major wrong with it. The Christmas and small town vibes are good.

Sehr süß!
Da ich bereits einen anderen Band aus der Reihe gelesen habe, habe ich mich gefreut, wieder in die vertraute Welt von Applemore in den schottischen Highlands einzutauchen und die Charaktere aus der Kleinstadt wiederzutreffen.
Das Buch hat mir insgesamt gut gefallen und ist eine süße Geschichte. Obwohl die Geschichte zur Weihnachtszeit spielt, wirkt sie nicht zu kitschig, sondern vermittelt eine angenehme, warme Winter- und Weihnachtsstimmung.
Es handelt sich nicht um ein Buch mit großer emotionaler Tiefe oder viel Drama, sondern um ein leichtes Buch für zwischendurch. Besonders positiv empfand ich, dass es keinen künstlich erzeugten Third-Act-Conflict gab.
Ich habe das Buch innerhalb von einem Tag durchgelesen. Insgesamt ist „Weihnachten in Applemore“ ein gutes Buch für die Winter- und Weihnachtszeit und perfekt für zwischendurch geeignet.

Applemoor, what a loverly place to live

I have loved this book from start to finish. I was cheering polly on hoping she would let harry know how she felt about him & could also understand how hard it was for her. Polly didn't want to lose harry as a friend if it didn't work out, so was dragging her feet. Dolina with her announcement that a Kardashian was on the beach & no one believing her saying what would a Kardashian want to come to Applemore for in the freezing cold. It later turned out to be Ivy Winter and her partner Ben who had booked into The Applemore hotel. They had an ulterior motive as we found out later. Ivy's grandparents had got married in Applemore and so Ivy to do the same. The hotel was due to shut for renovations but ivy and ben said they only wanted to be married in the bar at christmas, Harry said it was doable if they hopefully get things finished in time. Then the local fire fighters got a call there was a fire in the village. Later in the evening Lachlan called polly over & said come with me. Polly was a bit confused, Lachlan told her the fire was at Harrys hotel. Polly became very worried & Lachlan drove her there she got out the car as soon as they arrived & was asking where Harry was. They said he was inside,polly was even more worried now, then Harry came out the sideway with the pubs ferril cat It was lashing out it didn't like to be held. Polly rushed over & put her hands round him & said i thought shed lost him. Lachlan offered him a bed but polly said he can sleep at mine, he accepted. Polly & Harry went back to hers. Harry lite a fire in the grate then Harry went for a shower, afterwards he called polly, he had no clean dry clothes. Polly went next door to the shop & grabbed some shorts & a t-shirt for him. Polly gave him them to get dressed. He came down & polly and him had a glass scotch & then they were both silent. Next minute they were kissing went up to polly's room. When Harry woke he felt a bit disorientated. Then realised he was in Polly's bed, he said good morning & went down to make coffee. I thought this is it they Will realised they both feel the same but, no they both hardly said a word. Polly said she said he could borrow some clothes from Lachlan. Polly went to work. Later they all talked about what to do about the wedding, Lachlan and Rilla offered to host the wedding at Applewood House. Ivy & Ben went to look & loved it, everyone helped to make it a lovely wedding day. Ben & Ivy said they just wanted it to be about them. No social media. They invited the whole village,had stalls outside with marshmallow melt & hot chocolate factory with huge vats of chocolate,bowls of chocolate chips & sprinkles on clouds of whipped cream. A Helter Skelter & coconut shy. A band playing christmasy songs & strings of lights strung up everywhere. Then Polly met Harry in the hall & they kissed everyone said about time. They are together at long last. Just hope there is another book to show there story.

Harry Robertson wil van het Applemore Hotel een succes maken, maar zijn plannen worden verstoord wanneer de beroemde Ivy Winter plots verschijnt met haar verloofde en droomt van een kerstbruiloft in zijn hotel. Harry twijfelt, maar zijn beste vriendin Polly gelooft dat het dorp dit samen kan waarmaken – met lokale producten, bloemen en ambachtelijke taarten. Alhoewel de gemeenschap alles op alles zet, is het nog maar de vraag of ze dit gaat lukken. Maar als de sneeuw valt en de kerstmagie haar werk doet, is de grootste verrassing misschien wel of deze bruiloft Harry en Polly eindelijk samenbrengt.

Na een erg leuk derde deel in de Applemore-serie, Midzomer in Applemore, was ik heel benieuwd naar dit vierde deel. Zou Kerst in Applemore weer net zo fijn zijn? Mijn verwachtingen waren hoog!

Dit vierde deel heeft weer een heerlijk cosy sfeer en neemt je even helemaal mee terug naar Applemore. Het Schotse platteland, de hartverwarmende bewoners, kerst, sneeuw, de kerstmarkt en nog veel meer leuke details maken dat je weer helemaal in het verhaal zit en je even helemaal kan verliezen in dit heerlijke kerstverhaal.

Personages zijn wederom mooi uitgewerkt. Je leert ze nog beter kennen en door de kleine details weet de auteur je helemaal mee te laten leven in de levens van de Applemore bewoners. Nieuwe personages maken hun opwachting en heel veel oude komen weer aan de orde. Ze hebben allemaal zo hun eigen rol in het verhaal en met elkaar maken ze dat Applemore een dorp is waar ik graag eens langs zou gaan.

De schrijfstijl is weer super fijn. Makkelijk, leest lekker maar toch miste ik in dit deel de vaart die in eerdere delen wel zo fijn aanwezig was. De opbouw van de liefde tussen Polly en Harry is een echte slowburn. Hierdoor verloor ik halverwege het verhaal mijn interesse en vond ik het moeilijk om door te lezen. Op het moment dat Ivy Winter dan met haar geweldige plannen komt, hersteld zich dit weer en wil je absoluut verder lezen. Je weet eigenlijk wel hoe het eindigt maar het heerlijke slot weet je toch helemaal in te pakken.

Kerst in Applemore is een heerlijke feelgood voor iedereen die houdt van cosy dorpen en omgevingen, lieve mensen en een op en top kerst feelgoodverhaal. Ik kijk uit naar het volgende deel in de serie, Het kusthuisje in Applemore, dat verschijnt in april 2026.

Heile Winterwunderwelt

Harry Robertson, charmant und gutaussehend, ist fest entschlossen, sein kleines Hotel in Applemore zu einem Erfolg zu machen, und will groß umbauen. Wenn die Hauptsaison zu Ende geht, soll es losgehen, das Hotel wird über den Winter geschlossen bleiben.
Dann reist die kapriziöse, erfolgreiche Influencerin Ivy mit ihrem Verlobten Ben an und wünscht sich nichts sehnlicher, als in dem Hotel zu heiraten, das ihre Großeltern so geliebt haben. Harry ist hocherfreut, aber es gibt ein kleines Problem, denn Ivy hat sich eine Hochzeit an Weihnachten in den Kopf gesetzt – und was Ivy will, bekommt sie auch. Und natürlich wäre es eine grandiose Werbung für das Hotel.
Polly Fraser ist nicht nur Harrys beste Freundin, aber auch heimlich verliebt. Sie versichert ihm, dass sie es schaffen können, ein unvergessliches Fest zu bereiten, wenn alle an einem Strang ziehen – der Hofladen, die Gärtnerei, die Bäckerei für die Hochzeitstorte. Doch dann kommt es zu einer Katastrophe, und auf einmal steht nicht nur die Hochzeit in Frage


„Weihnachten in Applemore“ ist der vierte Band der „Das Erbe von Applemore“ Reihe, der Autorin Rachael Lucas. Die Bücher können unabhängig voneinander gelesen werden, sind aber in der richtigen Reihenfolge umso schöner, weil man die Figuren dann nach und nach kennen lernt.
Band vier spielt in der Winter- und Weihnachtszeit. Das Applemore Hotel soll renoviert werden und überall im Dorf starten die Weihnachtsvorbereitungen.
Natürlich geht nicht alles bei den Vorbereitungen gut und dann taucht auch noch die berühmte Influencerin Ivy auf. Gleichzeitig spielen die Gefühle von Harry und Polly verrückt, die beide mehr vom anderen wollen aber gleichzeitig denken, dass der andere nur Freundschaft sieht.
Das Buch ist wieder angefüllt von tollen Settings, sympathischen, herzlichen Figuren und ganz fühl Wohlfühlstimmung. Es gibt nicht viel Drama aber dafür ganz viel heile Winterwunderwelt. Die Bücher sind einfach zum Zurücklehnen und genießen.

In een klein dorpje hoog in de Schotse Hooglanden, staat het gezellige hotel van Harry Robertson klaar voor de kerstperiode. Hij heeft veel plannen: het hotel moet goed draaien, de aannemers staan klaar, en de rustige winter lijkt bijna begonnen. Maar dan komt alles anders.
Mediaster Ivy Winter arriveert plots met haar verloofde Ben en heeft één wens: een kerstbruiloft in Harry’s hotel. Harry is blij, tot hij ontdekt dat dit een enorm project wordt en zijn goede vriendin Polly Fraser moet helpen. Zij runt de boerderijwinkel die het dorp levendig houdt, en samen moet het dorp alles uit de kast halen om van deze bruiloft iets bijzonders te maken. Tegelijk brengt Ivy’s komst oude herinneringen en nieuwe kansen met zich mee, zowel voor Harry als voor het hele dorp.

Het vierde deel in de Applemore Bay serie! Wat heb ik hier naar uitgekeken!

Rachael Lucas weet wederom met eenvoudige woorden een warme en gezellige sfeer te scheppen. Je ruikt bijna de geur van dennennaalden en versgebakken koekjes, en je ziet de lichtjes fonkelen in de sneeuw. De personages voelen vriendelijk en herkenbaar aan gewone mensen met hun eigen zorgen en verlangens. Het is een verhaal over liefde, saamhorigheid en de kracht van een hechte gemeenschap, precies wat je verwacht van een goed kerstboek. Wel blijft het een feelgood en is het redelijk voorspelbaar maar dat neemt niet weg dat dit een heerlijk cozy kerstboek is!

Kerst in Applemore is deel vier in de Applemore Bay serie. De eerste drie delen heb ik niet gelezen. Is dit nodig om deel vier te lezen? Nee, ik denk het niet, al had ik af en toe wel het idee dat ik wat gemist heb, doordat ik niet weet wat de personages voorafgaand aan dit verhaal hebben meegemaakt. Op zich niet heel erg, maar het maakt wel nieuwsgierig!

In Kerst in Applemore gaat het Applemore hotel een aantal weken dicht zodat het helemaal opgeknapt kan worden en fris en gemoderniseerd het nieuwe jaar in kan gaan. Veel inwoners vinden dit niet zo'n goed idee. Maar Harry (de eigenaar van het hotel) zet zijn plan toch door. Dan komt opeens Ivy Winter, een bekende influencer, naar Applemore en zij wil heel graag trouwen in het Applemore Hotel. Net nu het hotel tijdelijk gaat sluiten. Harry ziet het niet zo zitten, maar zijn beste vriendin Polly overtuigt hem ervan dat de bruiloft echt wel kan plaatsvinden in het hotel en zij zet alles op alles om dit te laten gebeuren.
Ondertussen hebben Polly en Harry zo hun eigen gevoelens om mee te dealen. Gaat Polly weg uit Applemore? Of doet de kerstmagie zijn werk en komen ze eindelijk dichter tot elkaar? ❤️

Ondanks dat ik de geschiedenis van de personages niet ken, vond ik het een heerlijk boek om te lezen. Ik waande me echt in een kerstdorp. Een fijne gemeenschap, prachtige versieringen, sneeuw, een kerstmarkt, kerstworkshops. Zo fijn om te lezen! Het boek leest, dankzij de vlotte schrijfstijl, heel prettig weg en het is echt zo'n boek dat je niet weg wilt leggen. Ook al is het pas november, ik heb al een beetje kerst gevierd dankzij dit boek 🎄

Iedereen in Applemore bay is zich aan het voorbereiden voor de kerstperiode. Het geeft extra werk en daar is Polly erg blij mee. De boerderijwinkel kan wat extra klanten verwachten voor de wat luxere artikelen en ze helpt de rest van de handelaren waar mogelijk. Toch is ze nu ook vaak te vinden in het hotel van haar beste vriend Harry, om hem te adviseren en te helpen waar mogelijk. Harry is bezig het hotel te renoveren en alle hulp is welkom. Zeker daar hij soms te afgeleid geraakt van Polly, want zijn liefde voor haar, is iets meer dan vriendschappelijk.
De werkdruk wordt opgeschroefd als er een influencer/mediaster in het stadje neerstrijkt.
Ivy en haar verloofde komen voor rust, geen aandacht en dat vinden ze hier enorm. Ze geraken zo gecharmeerd van deze plek en gemeenschap dat het plotse idee van een intieme kerstbruiloft ontstaat.
Kerst in Applemore is een verhaal dat vooral draait om een dorpsgemeenschap en hun hulpvaardigheid. De uitdrukking “wie goed doet, goed ontmoet “ is hier echt van toepassing. Iedereen draagt zijn steentje bij en kerst is in alles zeer sterk aanwezig.
Rachael Lucas heeft met dit verhaal iets speciaals gedaan rond het traditionele Schotse leven met zijn bewoners tegenover het hype influencers leventje. Deze twee uitersten vonden elkaar in verschillende manieren en versterkten vaak elkaar. Dat vond ik echt wel de kracht van dit verhaal. De rest is erg voorspelbaar, maar gaf juist die perfecte gezapigheid tijdens het lezen.
De aandacht voor Schotland en zijn natuur, cultuur, tradities en zijn bewoners was weer erg mooi uitgewerkt.

Kerst in Applemore is zo’n verhaal dat je vanaf de eerste pagina zachtjes bij de hand neemt en je meeneemt naar een dorp waar de tijd net iets langzamer lijkt te lopen. Het boek ademt die typische Britse dorpscharme: knisperende haardvuren, besneeuwde straatjes en personages die voelen alsof je ze al jaren kent. Wat het verhaal bijzonder maakt, is niet alleen de romantische spanning die zich langzaam ontvouwt, maar vooral de warmte die tussen de regels door sijpelt. De auteur weet de emoties subtiel op te bouwen, waardoor de personages geloofwaardig en menselijk blijven, zelfs wanneer het plot zich in pure kerstmagie hult. De kracht van het boek zit in de combinatie van herkenbare thema’s nl. verlies, nieuwe kansen en verbondenheid. Het dorp Applemote fungeert bijna als een personage op zich: een plek waar mensen elkaar zien, waar kleine gebaren betekenis krijgen en waar de feestdagen niet alleen glitter en lichtjes zijn, maar ook momenten van reflectie. De romantiek is warm en oprecht, nooit overdreven zoet, waardoor het verhaal precies de juiste balans vindt tussen feelgood en emotionele diepgang. Kerst in Applemore is uiteindelijk een boek dat je leest voor het gevoel dat het achterlaat: dat zachte, hoopvolle tintje dat je eraan herinnert dat zelfs in de donkerste maanden nieuwe warmte kan ontstaan. Het is een verhaal dat je uitnodigt om even stil te staan, te ademen en je te laten omringen door een fictieve gemeenschap die verrassend echt aanvoelt. Als je het boek gelezen hebt hou je er een warm hart aan over.

Das Buch hat mir richtig gut gefallen, ein absoluter cozy read, perfekt für die Vorweihnachtszeit! Die Weihnachtslandschaft konnte ich mir durch die tollen Beschreibungen richtig gut vorstellen. Der Schreibstil ist angenehm und einfach zu lesen, mit genau der richtigen Menge an Details. Nicht zu viel, aber genug, um richtig in die Geschichte einzutauchen.

Das kleine Dorf, in dem sich alle kennen und einander helfen, fand ich einfach herzallerliebst, genau das liebe ich an solchen Geschichten. Die Charaktere waren mir sehr sympathisch, allen voran Polly, die eine starke Frau ist und ihre Projekte beeindruckend gut managt. Auch Ivy mochte ich sehr gerne, ihre Geschichte hat eine wichtige Botschaft transportiert: dass man Menschen nicht vorschnell bewerten oder verurteilen sollte.

Die Romance war wunderbar umgesetzt. Keine spicy Szenen, sondern eine gefühlvolle, langsam wachsende Beziehung, bei der die beiden ihre Gefühle lange für sich behalten. Das hat der Geschichte richtig Tiefe gegeben.

Ein kleiner Punkt, der mir aufgefallen ist (falls ich mich nicht täusche): Im Text steht, dass Polly einen blonden Pferdeschwanz hat, aber auf dem Cover sind ihre Haare braun, das hat mich kurz verwirrt, ist aber natürlich kein Drama.

Insgesamt ein wirklich tolles Buch! Richtig cozy, wunderbar atmosphärisch und mit ganz viel Weihnachtsvibe. Absolute Leseempfehlung von mir! 🎄✨

„Ein verschneites Hotel in den schottischen Highlands, eine prominente Braut und zwei beste Freunde mit unausgesprochenen Gefühlen“ – Klappentext und Leseprobe von Weihnachten in Applemore – Das Erbe von Applemoreklangen für mich nach einer cozy, etwas anderen Weihnachtsgeschichte. Genau das hatte ich mir erhofft. Bekommen habe ich leider etwas anderes.
Die Grundidee rund um das Applemore Hotel, die spontane Weihnachtshochzeit der Influencerin Ivy Winter und den starken Zusammenhalt des Dorfs ist eigentlich charmant. Auch das winterliche Setting in den Highlands funktioniert atmosphärisch gut, und optisch punktet das Buch definitiv: Das Cover gefällt mir richtig gut und verspricht genau das Wohlfühlgefühl, das man sich zur Weihnachtszeit wünscht.
Inhaltlich konnte mich die Geschichte jedoch kaum fesseln. Weihnachten selbst spielt überraschend wenig Rolle, was für einen Weihnachtsroman enttäuschend ist. Statt festlicher Magie zieht sich die Handlung oft zäh dahin. Ich habe mehrfach gemerkt, wie meine Gedanken abgeschweift sind – und das trotz der überschaubaren Seitenzahl.
Besonders die Liebesgeschichte zwischen den beiden Protagonist:innen empfand ich als langatmig und unreif. Das Hin und Her wirkte weniger romantisch als kindlich, fast so, als würden sich zwei Teenager zum ersten Mal verlieben. Hier hätte man deutlich mehr Tiefe und Entwicklung herausholen können.

Polly en Harry zijn al zo lang ze zich kunnen herinneren beste vrienden. Maar ook al minstens zo lang krijgt Polly's hart vleugels wanneer ze naar Harry kijkt. Harry echter heeft het te druk om wat op te merken, hij wil immers van het Applemore Hotel een succes maken. Wanneer er een beroemde influencer in het hotel opduikt, is het alle hens aan dek om alles zo goed mogelijk te laten verlopen. Maar natuurlijk is het lot zelden iemand zo goed gezind…

Ik las nog nooit wat van Rachael Lucas, ik las zelfs de voorgaande delen van Applemore Bay niet. Maar gelukkig was dit geen probleem om ineens naar dit 4de deel te springen. Ik kon prima volgen en voelde slechts vaag de vorige verhalen doorschemeren.

Tijdens het lezen kreeg ik heel sterk Holly Martin vibes. Kerst in Applemore past naadloos in haar straatje en kan dus zeker en vast ook haar lezers bekoren.

Luchtig, meeslepend, eenvoudig en gewoonweg liefdevol. Alles wat een goede feelgood nodig heeft om een aangenaam tijdverdrijf te zijn. Ik genoot van de personages, van de verhaallijn en van de setting, maar miste ergens wel iets essentieel. Wat precies, daar kan ik dan niet helemaal de vinger opleggen. Misschien net dat tikkeltje meer diepgang?

Kerst in Applemore bezorgde me een fijne, kerstige leestijd met alles in zich wat ik van een feelgood verwacht.

This book, the fourth in this lovely series set in the Highlands of Scotland, is about the youngest sibling of the Fraser family, Polly.

She's set up the farm shop and now has a really good business selling local produce and has artisan makers on site selling their wares. However, she's feeling a bit out of sorts. All her siblings are either married off or loved up. Whilst she loves Applemore, she's feeling its time to move on unless a certain bar owner gives her reason to stay.

Harry has taken over the bar and hotel in Applemore from his parents, and having secured funding to renovate the business, he's missing just one thing, someone to share it with. He's known Polly all his life. They're best of friends, and he doesn't want to ruin that relationship, but he wants more. Can he make that leap?

When a social media star turns up in the village and asks for a huge favour, the whole village has to pull together to make it happen, throwing Polly and Harry together.

I have read the four books so far in just a few days, Applemore has stolen my heart. Whilst all the books are standalone stories, they are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.

I can't wait to start on book five!

Kerst in Applemore is een kort, warm en sfeervol kerstverhaal dat me meteen in de winterstemming kreeg. Dat kleine Schotse dorpje voelt zó knus en levendig aan, en ik vond het echt leuk hoe de hele gemeenschap steeds terugkomt in het verhaal. Harry en Polly zijn zulke fijne personages; je gaat vanzelf met ze meeleven. Hun vriendschap, twijfels en stille gevoelens geven precies genoeg emotie zonder dat het te zwaar wordt.

De plot is behoorlijk voorspelbaar, maar eerlijk gezegd vond ik dat helemaal prima. Precies het soort cozy comfort read waar ik in december zin in heb. Rachael Lucas weet de kerstsfeer perfect te vangen: sneeuw, lichtjes, samen koken en voorbereiden op een bruiloft… ik had soms echt het gevoel alsof ik erbij stond. Als je houdt van romantiek, winterse gezelligheid en feelgood zonder drama, dan is dit een ideaal boek. Een heerlijk boek voor in de decembermaand.

En natuurlijk heel erg bedankt aan Zomer & Keuning dat ik dit boek mocht ontvangen. Echt een heerlijke toevoeging aan mijn kerstleeslijst!

“Dit is het vierde boek in de Applemore serie maar je kan deze even goed, zoals ik, als standalone lezen.

Harry Robertson wil van het Applemore Hotel een succes maken, maar zijn plannen worden verstoord wanneer de beroemde Ivy Winter plots verschijnt met haar verloofde en droomt van een kerstbruiloft in zijn hotel. Harry twijfelt, maar zijn beste vriendin Polly gelooft dat het dorp dit samen kan waarmaken – met lokale producten, bloemen en ambachtelijke taarten. Alhoewel de gemeenschap alles op alles zet, is het nog maar de vraag of ze dit gaat lukken.

Maar als de sneeuw valt en de kerstmagie haar werk doet, is de grootste verrassing misschien wel of deze bruiloft Harry en Polly eindelijk samenbrengt.”

Ik las deze gedurende de week van kerst and damn it hit just right!!! Ik ben echt blij dat Polly een happy ending krijgt en de sfeer was echt top notch!

De beschrijvingen zijn echt geweldig en tot in details wordt het kerstdorpje beschreven, wat voor mij eigenlijk een van de belangrijkste aspecten was van dit boek.

I’ve been a big fan of Rachael Lucas’ books ever since I read The Telephone Box Library, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Christmas at Applemore. I was not disappointed!

It was so lovely to return to Applemore, and see how all my friends there are getting on. This book focuses on Polly, who runs the shop. All her siblings are paired off, and she’s feeling a little bit lonely.

This story is set in the run up to Christmas, and the festive atmosphere is there right from page one. The story felt warm and cosy, like a big hug.

I loved reading this book, I got so absorbed in the story that I didn’t realise I was near the end until I reached it. The plot was fun, and lovely. I loved the sense of community, and the wintery atmosphere.

Overall, this was such a lovely story. It was full of festive feeling, and warm, happy endings. I highly recommend it to curl up somewhere warm with on a cold day.

Ik heb dit boek als een e-arc ontvangen van Zomer&Keuning en deze recensie is gebaseerd op mijn mening.

Kerst In Applemore is een cozy roman perfect voor de winterdagen, het is het 4e boek in de Applemore Bay serie maar ik kon dit prima als standalone lezen.

De beschrijvingen over het Schotse platteland, de gezellige dorpswinkeltjes en de warmheid van de bewoners van Applemore maken dit boek tot een echte feelgood ervaring waarin je je bijna zelf in het dorp waant.

De slowburn tussen 2 van de hoofd karakters was voor mij iets te lang maar dat maakt het boek niet minder leuk.

Kerst in Applemore is perfect voor lezers die houden van romcoms in kerst sferen en een flinke dosis slow burn.
Het is een redelijk kort boek wat fijn weg leest op een winteravond op de bank onder een lekkere deken.

Having read the other books in this series, I had been looking forward to reading this one too. It didn't disappoint!

Polly likes Harry. Harry likes Polly. But neither wants to ruin a good friendship. Then comes along Ivy and her fiance Ben who are staying at the Hotel that Harry runs and who want a wedding - at the Hotel.

It was lovely to hear about the other siblings in this book and to see how the relationship with Harry and Polly progressed.

If you want a sweet and engaging read, this is it!

4.5 stars from me.

Ivys story really

This storyline was a long time coming, it was clear who pollys love interest is, I did think it was very slow felt more about ivy winters then polly.also poor Harry it's his hotel and people keep telling him what to do, plus he was closing to bash down the bar Rob had no right he don't work there even Charlotte controls him to. I thought it was rude telling he is going to work.
For me this book felt to much about ivy. It was odd even the ending we got rushed words with what Polly is doing, do she still own the shop?

Technically I started this book back in October 2023 and then had to return it to the library before I could finish it. It’s been in the back of my mind since so I borrowed it again this year as soon as I noticed the weather showing the slightest hint of getting colder.
I love weddings & I love Christmas, especially the descriptions of winter at a hotel, with the crackling fires and the hustle & bustle of the customers.
This book gets one more star than the others in the series, probably because I see myself the most in Polly so I have a bit of a soft spot for her.

Took a few days to read this book. I was a bit doubtful as to how it would go after previously reading other Lucas books.

This book was better than others.
Polly and Harry were delightful characters.
All the previous focus chapters made a minimal appearance which was good, they didn’t take over the storyline.
