Though she was born into privilege, the last few years of Dylann’s life have been anything but easy. Her best friend was taken, her fiancé killed, her love interest denied her and her brother committed suicide. In a society where women are seen, not heard, Dylann struggles to break away from her stagnant position as an Alpha woman and discover the true meaning of living rather than existing. Alpha Lady Dylann Charlotte of Providence 5A is uprooted from her home after a new engagement to a promising Alpha named Drake. In this dystopian society of male dominated power women are looked at as a bargaining tool, used only to reposition families politically. Dylann discovers that by playing into this role as an Alpha female she may never get the happy ending she has dreamed of. Things get even more complicated when Brady turns out to be the head of her guardsmen team. He denied the proposal made by her father a few months earlier and the old sting of rejection is still there. She quickly begins bonding with the four others on her guard team as they work to hide her identity and keep her safe. She looks around and sees the carefree and independent attitudes that most Betas live by and longs for a chance to explore life the way they do. She wants to marry the love of her life; break the stereotypical mold of an Alpha female; and live her life, rather than merely exist. In her new life Dylann is exposed to more honesty and brutality than she has ever known before. Her new fiancé isn’t the charming man she hoped for and through their months together she is barely able to keep herself alive. As she sinks further into the depression of realizing Drake is her future she wonders if all those dreams of living was ever really attainable.
This book was a great read! Not only were the characters developed, which is a rarity on some of the Amazon books. The plot line was very compelling. I couldn't put the book down and when I did I found myself thinking about the story. I hope to see more from these characters and more from this author. A refreshing twist on a new society story will keep all readers interested and enthralled. Highly recommended!
