A heartwarming, small town, magical cozy mystery. Every book in the Quillhaven series can be read as a standalone.
Murder, magic, and a ghost with unfinished business take center stage in Quillhaven.
When seasoned director Olivia Sweetwater arrives in the enchanted town of Quillhaven, she expects nothing more mysterious than staging The Thirteenth Mirror at the historic Silver Quill Theatre.
On the first day of rehearsals, the Silver Quill’s beloved costume designer, Martha, is found murdered, and her magical sewing patterns—protective spells woven into fabric for generations—have vanished. Someone wanted those enchanted costume patterns badly enough to kill for them.
As supernatural shenanigans swirl around their production, Olivia has her hands full while dodging falling spotlights, deciphering ghostly clues, and trying not to fall for the dreamy lighting designer.
With the help of local witch Annie Hart, two (very) clever Siamese cats, and Thaddeus, a charming ghost with a flair for dramatic timing, Olivia must solve the murder before opening night.
Can she unmask the murderer before the final curtain falls forever?
. . . an edge-of-the-seat finish!
. . . hooked from the beginning and couldn't stop reading
. . . full of humor, mystery and just the right amount of magic
. . .Tessa Silver is one of my favorite authors and I highly recommend checking out her work.
Theatre of Secrets by Tessa Silver is an enchanting blend of mystery, magic, and small-town charm. Set in the mystical coastal town of Quillhaven, the story unfolds around an old playhouse hiding more than just dusty props—it holds generations of secrets waiting to be unearthed.
The pacing kept me hooked from the first act to the final curtain call. There’s suspense, emotional depth, and that signature Tessa Silver sparkle that makes her magical mysteries so special. The ending ties things up beautifully while leaving just enough intrigue for whatever comes next in Quillhaven.
If you love cozy mysteries with supernatural flair, secret histories, and a touch of romance, Theatre of Secrets is a must-read.
Olivia Sweetwater is trying to find her way to Quillhaven where she will be directing "The Thirteenth Mirror", a contemporary thriller with supernatural elements, to be held at the historic Silver Quill Theatre. Of course the GPS nav was no longer functioning by now and she was trying to navigate using hand-drawn directions. The last instruction was to "cross the bridge and follow your heart". What is that supposed to mean? She crossed the bridge and felt an odd sensation. She gazed at the elegant theater at the end of the street. For just a moment, she thought she saw a figure dressed in old-fashioned clothing standing in a third-floor window, tipping his hat at her. But when she tried to focus, the window was empty. So she stopped at the Mystic Mornings Cafe to have a cup of coffee and found the inside actually felt magical. The barista/owner, Caleb Rivers, cheerfully greeted her. She noticed a woman with two cats, and Caleb told her Annie Hart was his girlfriend and owned Spellbound Stories across the street. The cats were her companions, Leo and Luna, and they walked over to greet Olivia. An older woman walked in, Eleanor Thornwood, introducing herself as president of the Silver Quill board. Olivia met the other members at a quick meeting and was shown the beautiful stage. As the tour progressed, she felt someone watching her, seeming to be friendly and amused by her being there. When Bob left her alone, she greeted the empty auditorium and the building seemed to sigh as she heard the distant sound of applause. Her cottage was behind the theater and she saw movement in a second-floor window. Someone seemed to be waving like the one she saw earlier.
Ready to begin rehearsals, Martha Chambers, their costume designer, is murdered! Her irreplaceable magical patterns, woven with protection spells, have disappeared! Now the investigation begins. They must track down the murderer's identity as Olivia (with a newly-discovered ability), Annie and her Siamese cats, Max Winters (lighting designer and technician), Thaddeus (a ghostly presence), and of course the police department's Chief Noah Chandler gather clues to find justice for Martha and to enable the play to go on by opening night and save the struggling theater. Someone is stealing Quillhaven's creative magic and the deaths will not stop until the killer is identified and dealt with. Will the theater team be successful? And what will the future hold for Olivia?
Every performance has its ghosts… but some refuse to stay in the wings.

THEATRE OF SECRETS is the ninth installment in the Quillhaven Magical Cozy Mystery series by Tessa Silver.
Each of these murder mysteries includes quirky, loveable characters and light-hearted fun that had me hooked from beginning to end. There are enough twists and turns in each story to keep things interesting. This series never grows old or tired. Each installment introduces a new resident with a new and fresh plot.
The local theatre ghost, Thaddeus Wainwright, has a way with creative light shows, a talent for mimickry. He also has not only a deep knowledge of theatre production but also the history of the theatre itself.
Our feline investigators Leo and Luna are deep into the investigation, adding valuable assistance with finding clues and sabotage. Leo's love with anything sugary is actually a huge help this time around.
Director Olivia Sweetwater has accepted a temporary position to direct 'The Thirteenth Mirror' at the historic Silver Quill Theatre in Quillhaven. She no sooner arrives than Martha, the magical costume designer, is found murdered. Now, Olivia is not only directing a play but investigating a murder. It's not going to be easy. Someone has stolen some of Martha's costumes and appears to be attempting to make the production fail. The actors suddenly have trouble with their lines and tripping over their own feet. It's like their creative magic is failing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this quick and fun story. Leo's snark and Luna's calm wisdom truly add an enjoyable twist to these stories.
The many twists and turns keep you guessing until the ending. I not only highly recommend this book, but the entire Quillhaven series as well.

When Olivia Sweetwater arrives in the picturesque town of Quillhaven to direct The Thirteenth Mirror at the Silver Quill Theatre, she expects opening-night jitters—not a chilling death behind the curtains. With danger closing in and a spectral ally offering cryptic clues, Olivia must unravel a dark mystery before the final act turns deadly.

Murder and magic and a ghost are to be found in Quillhaven this time around . The stage is set for The Thirteenth Mirror at the Silver Quill theatre ,what a thrill one might say only this one leads to dismay. Disarray even because someone wanted Martha’s magical patterns with spells sewn in them and handed down generations so much they were prepared to kill her for them! Egads it’s a sorry shame and our intrepid sleuth is surely able to find the ones to blame before it’s too late .Olivia is to be found dodging bits of set that are falling down . Annie Hart the witch who is quite the sweetheart and her two Siamese along with Thaddeus the ghost do their utmost best . Does Olivia solve this one before opening night? She’ll try her best no contest but will she succeed? I hear you ask ,well you’ll just have to read for yourself . I can say this it’s really top shelf reading at its best I must confess . I find this one the best. Tessa Silver’s writing is divine and I especially love this it’s number nine.

Theatre of Secrets is the ninth book in Tessa Silver's Quillhaven Magical Cozy Mystery series. Olivia Sweetwater comes to the historic Silver Quill theater to direct a murder mystery. On opening night, the costume designer is found dead and the magic in her costume patterns missing. Olivia was drawn to Quillhaven and had began seeing things (the theater ghost) and hearing Leo and Luna, Annie Hart's magical cats almost as soon as she arrives. So there's magic, of course. And Olivia comes into her own powers. She also falls in love and falls into danger as she, the cats, the ghost and the light tech, Max solves the mystery. The story is smooth and lovely, written with whatever magical powers Ms. Silver has. A fun romp. Olivia is surrounded by a loving found family. Definitely a cozy read for winter nights under the quilt and a cup of cocoa. Lovely.

*I was gifted a copy of this book and all opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Loved this story! Well put together just like all of the ones before in the series. Just the right amount of character development so you have sufficient info to understand how they fit together. Characters from prior stories come into play as appropriate. I have read all of the stories in the series, and the characters are like family. You understand their backgrounds and it’s clear how they fit into the story line. The author does a wonderful job of weaving the story with the main characters. She is able infuse emotion as well as suspense into her words as the story flows. There were places that I just had to read on since I couldn’t stop at that point. I had tears at places where parts were that moving. There is no cliffhanger ending. Each story has a bit of budding romance. If you enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries, you really should read the series. I received an advance copy of this book and the comments are mine.
I really love this series. Olivia has come to Quillhaven to direct a play at the historic Silver Quill theatre. Shortly after she arrives the costume maker is murdered. Someone seems to be after her magical designs. Olivia finds she is seeing and sensing supernatural things and it is reinforced when she hears the voices of Leo and Luna, Quillhaven’s magical cats. This book has a lot of magic, a great mystery, several characters from previous books, a slow romance and humour. Leo and his quest for food comes to mind right away. Besides Olivia and the lighting tech, Max, this book has a lot of Annie, the witch owner of the bookstore and familiars, Leo and Luna. This is a nice cozy, fantasy mystery and each book gets better and better. I would recommend this book and series in a flash.
This is another lovely Quillhaven Magical Cozy Mystery. It is a story that takes you on stage to the Silver Quill theatre and also the preparing the production for "The Thirteenth Mirror". The Silver Quill theatre is in a troublesome situation, the sudden unnatural death of Martha Chambers. Costumes that draw us in to a deep mystery, Olivia Sweetwater, a director who's come to direct "The Thirteenth Mirror". The storytelling is so capturing and the characters at the theatre are nice. However, there are negative things that happen and there is the investigation of finding the person who killed Martha. As always a nice story with the people of Quillhaven, it is a treat to return, experience this magical display on stage and behind the scenes. I truly enjoyed this opus and I'm happy to have read this book. Charlotte N
Olivia Sweetwater arrives in Quillhaven, eager to direct the play “The Thirteenth Mirror” at the historic Silver Quill Theatre. But, on the first day of rehearsals, the theatre’s costume designer is murdered and her magical designs and patterns are stolen. Before she knows it, Olivia is learning about Quillhaven’s magical background and finds herself in the middle of a magical murder mystery. With the help of Annie Hart, a local witch, and Annie's feline familiars, Luna and Leo, Olivia follows the clues, hoping to solve the case before opening night. This is another unputdownable book in the Quillhaven Magical Cozy Mystery series! You’ll love the characters and the magic and everything about this book! I highly recommend this entire series to all cozy mystery lovers. I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and I am happy to leave this voluntary review.
Olivia Sweetwater was only co-opted to direct a play at The Silver Quill Theatre on a temporary basis. No one reckoned on Martha, the costume designer, being found dead. Martha had been key in ensuring all actors and performances were shown at their very best, thanks to the special magic she wove into their costumes over the years. Without her...!?
The Quillhaven team pull together to unearth the mystery behind Martha's murder. It seems to be linked to Martha's patterns.
Max, the lighting designer and technician, normally a very reserved soul, steps into the limelight (pun intended) to help Olivia and the crew solve the crime. Leo and Luna, alongside Annie play their part in this.
Poor Noah! Bemused, but totally supportive of the Quillhaveners!
Another magical sortie into Quillhaven you shouldn't miss.
This is the latest installment in the Quillhaven series by Tessa Silver. It centers around the Silver Quill Theatre which is rumored to be haunted. Director Olivia Sweetwater is hired to come to Quillhaven to head the latest production. Everything starts off with the costume designer being murdered. During the investigation, it becomes obvious that Martha’s costumes were not only beautiful, but also magical. With the help of lighting director Max, sheriff Noah, local witch Annie and her enchanted cats Leo and Luna, Olivia is determined to uncover the killer before opening night. This book holds a reader attention. It’s a paranormal cozy mystery that contains mystery, magic and a love story. I highly recommend it.
I absolutely love the whole Quillhaven mystery series and this one is a great addition to it!! This one centers on a community theater and the new-to-town director who gets thrown into a mystery. And of couse, she has help from the fabulous felines Leo & Luna, as well as a new ghost character, who is absolutely charming! It is a fun read and may be my new favorite of the series! While it is in a series, it is a stand alone novel; all of them are. They each center on a different business in Quillhaven and while some of the characters overlap, it really is fine to read them in any order. But I would recommend starting at the beginning & working your way thru....they are all fun, easy, enjoyable reads!
This was a very puzzling mystery and a story with amazing characters. I highly recommend this book and the author.

With the help of all the cast plus Annie and her enchanted cats Leo and Luna they find out who is trying to destroy their theater. The final showdown was fantastic and really showed what happens when people do things for the wrong reason. I received an arc and this is my review
When Olivia starts at the theatre as a director she does not expect to be involved in a murder investigation and much more. An amazing paranormal book with wonderful characters, human and feline, that show how a community can work together. I really enjoyed the storyline working through the mystery until the final showdown. Wonderfully written, this book will make you smile while you are on the edge of your seat. I received a copy of this book from the author. I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

It's a mystery that keeps you guessing. The world building is nice surprise makes this story a cozy mysteries with a little magic and heart Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this digital copy, all opinions are mine
This was an excellent read, I enjoyed the new villain, a creative vampirism attack. This was something totally new. Olivia comes to Quillhaven to produce a new play and instead finds herself protecting the theatre and the audience. A person is trying to take the creative emotions from not just the actors but also the audience. This person also kills the one person who is helping to protect everyone. A clever murder mystery that makes you wonder if the supernatural can effect a play. Still love Luna and Leo. I received an arc and the views and opinions are my own.
Another book in this series finished and what a book. This book brought another new person to Quillhaven, one to help with the Theatre. Olivia came for a short time to help with a new production they were putting on. There is a lot emotion in this story, mostly laughter because some of the things are really funny but also some scary and really intense. Come along and grab this book and check in with Olivia, Max and cast of the Quillhaven Theatre. Happy reading. Off I go to read the next book and I can't wait to check it out.
Book 7 of the Quillhaven series. Now we have new seasoned director for theatre Olivia Sweetwater. nothing like starting a new job only to have a murder happen. Being the new director has its ups and downs, but this is crazy. This book is a cute cozy, paranormal mystery what gets you right from the start. Olivia teams up with Annie, Leo, Luna and Max to solve the mystery and we can't leave out the detective Noah. read or listen to another fantastic mystery from Tessa that keeps you engaged from the beginning until the end.
Wow! Once into this magical book I had to finish it. Late night!! The Quillhaven Theatre as an invited Director for a new play with a magical mirror as the theme. Once there she is meeting people and then one of the crew gets murdered. Martha, the seamstress extraordinaire. She sewed magic into the clothes. Fortunately, for the Theatre, she has taught Walter well. The magical cats Leo and Luna also play a big part in this “war” between good and evil magic. A great read.
Just in time for Halloween. The dazzling cat duo and the town residents of Quillhaven join together to solve the latest murder. This time in the haunted theatre! A new director, Olivia Sweetwater, definitely wasn't expecting Quillhaven and the secrets of the theatre. She is pretty surprised with her new abilities and the quirky town residents.
What a delightful read! I, as always, was shocked about who committed the murder! Cannot wait for the next one!
