About the author

I was born and raised in Dunedin, New Zealand, but had my first year of school in London, UK and the second in Washington DC. I became a primary school teacher and began writing when I was living in Glasgow, Scotland for two years and teachers were all on strike. My first novel was a medical thriller with a good dash of romance thrown in.
I have now written well over a hundred romance novels with more than a dash of medicine thrown in. I love weaving the emotional journey of a love story through the background drama the medical world can provide. I also love the rabbit holes I can go down in the name of research.
Above all, I love romance. And a happy ending!

A Masterclass in Slow-Burn Romance and Lyrical Prose

Alison Roberts has a way of writing romance that stands on its own podium. Returning to her version of Provence felt like stepping into a story told by a cozy fireplace. It is a comforting, heart-stirring read that manages to be both a sensitive exploration of loss and a beautiful celebration of new beginnings.

After a decade in the business, Sophie is no stranger to wedding drama, but planning an influencer's wedding brings her face-to-face with Luc Moreau. Their shared past is marked by the tragic loss of Sophie’s fiancé, Tom, in an accident that Luc was a part of. Amidst the pressure of a social media scandal and the beauty of the French countryside, Sophie must decide if she can let go of her self-protection to find love again.

The heart of this book is loyalty. Whether it is Luc’s loyalty to a friend who was like family or Sophie’s devotion to the memory of her fiancé, the story asks how we move forward without leaving our loved ones behind. It also provides a fascinating, stressful peek behind the curtain of "curated" influencer weddings and the power of public opinion.

The writing in this book is absolutely exquisite. Roberts captures the tiny, profound shifts in the human heart, like the moment you watch a love you hoped for "roll toward a soul sibling." Her descriptions are ethereal, such as seeing a wedding veil as a mist of fabric floating free. The dual POV and shifting timelines are handled with such care that the transitions never jar the reader.

The romance here focuses on emotions and feelings over mere action. Sophie and Luc are characters with immense depth; their "spark" isn't just a physical reaction, but a complex mix of memory and caution. Watching them find their way to each other while navigating their love for the same person (Tom) was written with such decency and grace.

Alison Roberts’ A Wedding in Provence starts by calmly breaking your heart and then has the audacity to ask you to trust it anyway.
Boldwood Books, thank you for the opportunity to read this via NetGalley and for my gifted ARC.

This is the kind of romance that sneaks up on you while pretending it’s just here for the lavender fields and pretty French weddings. I went in expecting a cozy escape and instead got emotional whiplash, unresolved grief, simmering resentment, and enough sexual tension to power a small Provençal village. Sophie is a wedding planner who has mastered the art of creating perfect love stories for everyone except herself, which is both relatable and quietly devastating. Luc, meanwhile, is the brooding, guilt-ridden photographer who embodies the phrase “man with secrets,” and yes, I rolled my eyes at first. Then I absolutely didn’t.

The Provence setting is indulgent in the best way. Sunlight, food, stone châteaux, and that slow, aching pace that makes you feel like healing might actually be possible if you just sit still long enough. What really worked for me was the emotional maturity. This isn’t a romance where love magically fixes everything. The characters have history, pain, and complicated feelings that don’t vanish just because the view is nice and the chemistry is strong. I appreciated that the book lets grief linger without letting it dominate, and allows forgiveness to be messy and earned.

“There are some loves that don’t fade, no matter how hard you try to bury them.”

That line sums up the heart of this story perfectly. Tender, a little painful, but deeply satisfying. I finished the book feeling soothed, wrung out, and slightly smug that I trusted Alison Roberts to get me there. If you like second-chance romance with emotional depth, gentle escapism, and just enough bite to keep it honest, this one is worth packing in your carry-on.

First I have to say I love the cover. It’s just so cute and the colors really make this an eye catching cover !!!

This was such a good book. I really enjoyed this. I found myself heartbroken and then slowly sucked in and just slowly asks you to trust love anyway like really ?! You’re really gonna do that to me. I wasn’t expecting that in this book at all I mean I legit had emotional whiplash and this book had grief resentment ( I know this one all too well) oh and did I say the sexual tension was beyond crazy like holy cow I needed a cold shower !!!

I really felt for Sophia. I mean can you imagine being a wedding planner and creating that perfect moment for everyone else but not being able to find it yourself ?! I couldn’t like talk about hard but also so relatable !! I mean it happens in life really does.

Then we have Luc and he just the typical man who is kinda broody and has secrets and just I felt hate the world kinda but after reading more kinda understood why and then felt bad for rolling my eyes at first.

Like this is the type of book that really just makes you think and wonder if healing is possible and loving someone through it all is worth it. Like there is raw reality to it. Like can’t just wave a wand and fix it all type like feelings are messy and just don’t go away past doesn’t go away just have to work on making it better and healing that’s what I loved about this book. The writing is so good too. Absolutely loved it.

Overall it’s a book kinda makes you stop and think oh and that setting how nice it sounds I want to go so badly but until then I just live through my books !!!

While preparing for a wedding for an influencer, the photographer originally hired cancelled. The photographer who appears is someone Sophie never expected. Luc Moreau, known as Le Phénix, appears to take photos for the wedding. Luc was Sophie’s fiancé’s, Tom, best friend. As they work together, memories of the past as well as feelings Luc and Sophie had for each other emerge. As these secrets come to light, they must decide their path forward - the current lives they have built on their own or a new one together.

This story is heartfelt and an emotive journey of second chances and healing. It’s a story of healing, forgiveness, and redemption. It’s also a story of vulnerability and difficult choices. Sophie and Luc’s story has an hopeful and optimistic outlook and it is also an honest story.

I enjoyed how character driven and emotive the novel is. The path for healing, grief, and reconciliation is not linear. The novel is well paced in showing this journey for both Luc and Sophie. There are chapters that share moments from their past provide understanding of their shared history. They are seamlessly woven into the novel with the present narrative.

The setting is vividly described, bringing readers to Provençal region. The château, the flowers, the ocean - you can picture yourself in the south of France!

I adored this book! It was full of found family, tragedy, secrets and a second chance at love. The power of the media, especially social media, to make or destroy a career and a life played a key role. Sophie and Luc have not seen each other since the tragedy of Tom’s accident. Tom was the person that bound the friend group together and the loss of him left Sophie and Luc shattered and Luc holding a secret. Sophie plans destination weddings in Provence and is shaken when Luc appears as the substitute photographer for a high profile wedding. Luc has been hiding his true self with the persona he has created for his photography but is embarking on a plan to give back. Sparks fly between Sophie and Luc but will the secrets from the past revealed on social media destroy the future?

The setting of Provence was lovely and perfect for a wedding. The detailed descriptions brought me to France and made me want to visit. I also really enjoy books about weddings and the joy and craziness they entail. Being transported to Sophie’s world and all the work she put in to make the wedding a dream was a delight.

The characters are relatable and my heart ached for them. Both Sophie and Luc have rebuilt their lives after the tragedy but are still searching for something. When they meet again the connection between Sophie and Luc has both sparks and sweetness as they rediscover each other.

I recommend this book to readers that enjoy second chance romances.

Sophie runs a successful wedding planning business in Provence, when the wedding photographer is unable to make a high profile wedding he arranges for another to take his place. When the new photographer who is known under a highly regarded nom de plume arrives she is shocked to find that it is Luc, someone she knew from years before. He had been driving when her fiance Tom was killed in a motoring accident on the eve of their wedding and she hadn't had any contact with since. Forced to work with him they gradually revisit the past and secrets are revealed.
Provence certainly sounds like a beautiful place to visit, although the weddings are held in places that would be far above my budget or any of those that I know. It is a very emotional story, with both Sophie and Luc suffering from the loss of Tom, who had been like a brother to Luc, and Tom's sister Hannah, who had been Sophie's best friend who they had both lost contact with. You could see the spark between Sophie and Luc and you gradually find out their history and hope for a happy outcome. 4.5* rounded up to 5*.

Somewhat of a miss for me😕

I usually really enjoy the author's novels set in Provence. The Year in Provence series about three British sisters finding new lives and love there were particularly engaging. This novel does include the sisters and their families as side characters in the latter chapters, but it's largely a standalone about an unrelated British transplant to Provence who owns a wedding planning business for destination weddings, having fled to France after her fiance's death on the eve of their own wedding.

I had trouble connecting with the main characters, especially the female lead, despite a large part of the narrative waxing on about her feelings (or her reluctance to acknowledge them). I had guessed the twist in the story almost from the beginning so, no surprise there, and for me, this story had too much description of feelings and settings, not enough action. Yes, the landscape is beautiful but I expected more from the plot.

Sophie holds destination wedding in the beautiful Provence area in France. She has an important wedding for an influencer when her photographer does not show up, having had a heart attack. However, he arranges for a substitute, and when he arrives Sophie is shocked to find it is Luc, who she hasn't seen for ten years, since the night her fiance died in a car Luc was driving.

This story is loosely connected to novels that Alison Roberts has previously written based in Provence in case, like me, you prefer to read your novels in order. This is a lovely novel, filled with the sights and smells of the beautiful Provence region of South France. The back story of the two main characters is skilfully blended with the modern day storyline and includes beautiful weddings, malevolent journalists and story themes of redemption. These themes take this novel above the ordinary and make it a multilayered and interesting read. I was rooting for the main characters right through to the end and I think you will too.

Another fantastic book from Alison Robert.
Having read book 1 & 3 from ‘A Year In France’ series, and just adored Alison’s writing I was super excited to read this book, and for me it didn’t disappoint.
This is a stand alone book so you don’t need to read ‘A Year In France’ series.
Yet again this book is set in beautiful Provence and again so beautifully described I really felt as if I was right there on the rocks as the lighting striked.
Sophie relocated to Provence and set up a destination wedding company after losing her fiance in a horrible car accident. Luc is Sophie’s fiances best friend, and a stand in photographer at a high profile wedding. What can one bad review do to Luc and Sophie? Will it bring the closer together, and mend broken hearts, what other secrets will come to light?
I loved the cameo appearance from the Gilchrest sisters and the donkeys.

What a dreamy, romantic story set in Provence. Sophie has experienced love and loss and found a way to cope with her grief. She has established a successful wedding planning business.

Through her business she is confronted with a person of her past, photographer Luc. We slowly find out how they know one another, and why Sophie is not exactly thrilled to see him.

This storyline deals with love, loss, despair, grief, heartbreak, a shattered world, hope, peace and LOYALTY. This escapist romance, full of second chance love carries you away to another dreamy world. If you like sweet romances, but one where everything may not quite be what it seems, this book is for you.

A Wedding in Provence by Alison Roberts was a delightful novel. The story balances deep sadness with genuine joy, making it a truly satisfying and heartwarming read.

Sophie is a wedding planner devoted to creating perfect love stories for others while quietly carrying her own grief. Her journey is touching and believable, and her strong friendship with Tilly adds warmth and humour to the story. The romance unfolds with sensitivity, allowing grief, forgiveness to develop. It was also lovely to have the surprise return of characters from previous stories.

Tender, immersive, and emotionally rich, this is a novel that stays with you long after the final page. A wonderful escape filled with heart, healing, and hope. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This book has you cycling through all the emotions. It is filled with resentment, guilt, grief, loyalty and yearning.

It’s well written in that it’s raw it does not erase the past and pain with instant forgive and forget but it’s not all dominated with grief.
We get shown the entwined past of both MC with there individual perspectives, which blends in the book well without slowing or halting the present.

Set in a beautiful location it had good setting descriptions to be able to visualise being there with the sun on my face.

Oh, my heart! It went through so many ups and downs with this book - the love, the grief, the outrage, the plot twist. All while Sophie was planning gorgeous weddings in the beautifully described vistas of France. I’m usually more of a rom-com kind of girl, but A Wedding in Provence was such a fantastic contemporary romance. While there were parts that were sad, the love story was absolutely swoon-worthy. I will definitely be adding Alison Roberts to my list of authors to read more works by. This was definitely 5 out of 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Highly recommend!

I was drawn in by the beautiful cover and then the description. So glad that it didn't disappoint.
Sophie runs a company for destination weddings. She spends a lot of time running the weddings at a Chateau. All the descriptions of the Chateau and the grounds around it sounds absolutely amazing and a fantastic getaway. Then to throw a wrench into one of her weddings, the normal photographer is in the hospital and he's sending a friends, the infamous Le Phénix. Upon his arrival she sees that it's her ex friend Luc, who she lost touch with after her fiancé died just before their wedding.. She's not sure how they will make it through the festivities. After she sees him working, and they have a chat, the wedding moves forward.
The wedding happens to be for a mega influencer and while that seems to be awesome for their businesses, old hurts are brought up that might ruin them both. As they come together to settle the score and feelings are reignited and a sad and sweet story unfolds.

A Wedding in Provence by Alison Roberts is an emotional contemporary fiction novel that focuses on Sophie, a wedding planner who is grieving the loss of her fiance and friend group, and Luc, a photographer who has a past connection with Sophie. The book is scheduled to be published on February 12, 2026.

The Magic of Provence by this author was one of my favourite romances of 2025. While this book did not quite live up to that magic for me, I still enjoyed it and would read more. The writing continued to be strong and I found the book to be both emotional and dramatic. I didn't connect with the characters as much as in the previous book, but I did overall enjoy the story.

What I particularly enjoyed was the Easter eggs that will be familiar to those who have read other books by the author. It was so fun to be able to recognize some of the characters and I smiled while reading it quite a bit.
