Should’ve stopped after the authors note but I was looking for some hood shenanigans. The book had that but it was poorly put together a lot of stupidity for the sake of it and there was never really no good demos of “love” lots of crackheads, lots of inconsistencies just overall this wasn’t a well executed story. The main couple was freaking 30% with minimal knowledge and info about each other TADA they ride or dies… like just ridiculous sequencing and pacing. Also WHO THE HELL IS ON THE COVER lmaoo cus that’s what I expected Glock to look like lmaoo he was not that in this story.

Whew!!! This was definitely a wild ride. It was A LOT going on in this book. It definitely kept me entertained but at times some things were too unbelievable for me lol. I mean every single character pissed me off at least once or twice.

I liked both Glock and Nina but I just wish we got to see their relationship build instead of going straight to hunching and being in love immediately! I am all down for a insta-love story but this one just didn’t make sense at some points on how they was down to ride for each other instantly when they acted like they weren’t even attracted to each other at first

I could not believe how old Bre was lol! I wish she would have been older for all the stuff she was doing and going through.

Whew this one was all over the place 😩 Characters were popping in and out like they had somewhere better to be, and some even got whole chapters just to end up meaning nothing to the story in the end. I really wanted to like the love story, but from the start it was jarring. One minute it was all business and the next they were suddenly together like… wait, when did that happen?
It felt like a bunch of storylines going in different directions with no real focus. The potential was there, but it needed more structure and emotional depth to really pull me in.
2.5⭐ for effort, because there were glimpses of something good under all the chaos.

Other than Glock being described as caramel in the story but looking like the richest form of chocolate on the cover, this book was absolutely perfect! From the very first chapter, you’re rooting for Nina to not only survive but thrive—for herself and for her daughter. The fact that her happily ever after comes in the form of a strong, take-charge man like Glock makes it even better.

Dough and Nina with their sibling bond was everything. It gave the story heart, humor, and balance. Truly a multi-layered, emotional, and satisfying read.

What I also loved was Glock’s relationship with Bre. He may not have kids of his own, but from the very first meeting he treated her like a daughter. The life lessons he poured into her in such a short time showed just how perfectly he fit into Nina’s world– not just as a partner, but as a father figure too.

Man this book was so good! I literally read this in two days!!! Glock omg such a gentle thug!! He didn’t play when it came to Nina and Brae. I love how he spoiled them. His mom tho, such a sad sight… Shawn wasn’t no better. One of these days when I grow up I will do video review and this will definitely one of them!!!

Glock: A Hood Love Story

I love when an author can write a story and keep my attention from beginning to end. The story was straight forward and straight to the point. This a really good read.

Oh babyyyyy

Glock was not playing. The twists were turning and unexpected. I loved it. Nina was ride or die. He woke up the beast in her but she already had it formed just hiding.

It was an okay read. I started out loving Nina but towards the end she really made some silly decisions when it really mattered. At first, she was written like she was this bad a** that was take no mess and that I loved. It kind of fell a little flat for me toward the end and felt a bit rushed. I also feel like there were a couple missed opportunities to expand on the spicy scenes which was disappointing. I enjoyed Glock and his craziness. However, I was not pleased about the big secret he kept that ended up costing everyone around them.

Spoiler: I am wondering what happened to the cameras he put in his mom’s place? I wanted so bad to know what he would find out. Uuuggghhhh lol. I hate when bits are put in like this and there’s no follow up.

Hood Love ❤️

The struggle can be real! The streets don’t love no one. Never be afraid of the weapons, it’s the person with the weapons you need to be afraid of. Getting that monkey off your back is not an easy task! Let’s. Chat!

Nina was that girl/tomboy that got along with everyone but don’t cross her. Becoming a single mother wasn’t in the plan but she did what needed to be done to provide for her daughter🥰. We all know that saying “never her high off your own supply”, well that didn’t work out in Sean favor. I was over him when he did what he did😡. Like really my guy. It’s took my girl a minute to cut him off, but once she did I was so happy! He was a bum and she nor Bre needed to be around him🤏🏾🤏🏾. Listen ya girl was a hustla by nature and did what she had to do to survive! One thing for sure she could and would protect herself by all means as well as her daughter and she had no issue with defending herself if needed. She didn’t care for hand outs either. Stop playing with her 🫣! As much as her brother Dough tried to help, she wouldn’t unless she truly had to and I respect it. The way she would pop off had me juiced 🤣, like girl I see you. But what she wasn’t expecting was Glock checking for her especially after their first encounter wasn’t the best one🫣! What my girl wasn’t expecting was the pressure he was applying. She wasn’t expecting the mess or issues that came with him. One thing she knew for sure she not coming off this man🥰!

London aka Glock is just that 🥷🏽! He play not a single game and his mouth is reckless. I mean his mouth is reckless. It’s like he’s rude but caring at the same time. Ya boy keeps it 💯 to a certain. Though he is in a business situation, it didn’t stop him from wanting what he wanted and from his first encountered he knew he wanted Nina🥰. I honestly think her clap back and not backing down from anyone out anything is what attracted him to her. Like he stated he’s never had anyone clap back at him🤣! Ya boy was smooth with it. Though he didn’t plan on placing a woman on his team, but what he seen in Nina changed that thought. Glock was like I need he by my side and was not playing no games about it🥰. Can we talk about the connection between him and Bre? The way this man keeps it 💯 with her and how she accepted him but made sure he understands what she didn’t want to happen when it came to her mom. Oh can’t forget his mom 😔! That there was a pull at your heartstrings because who wants to have to watch their mom destroy her life and not even trying to get better. Though I felt he was quite disrespectful at times when it came to her but I understood as he was still hurt and that little boy who needed his mom was still living within, of that makes sense. Like stated before he played no games when it came to Nina cause ya boy showed up and showed out.

Sean, was just a lost cause. They he did his daughter had me so upset, like really your daughter😡! Like how do you do your child like that then expect her to be all happy when you became yourself again. Oh boy really thought that all he did Nina would be back with him! Like boy STOP🤭! Like honestly it’s sad to say, he got want he deserved🫣. Oh can’t forget about the last cause Nelly. Like she thought she was so up on game but honestly was so green to it all. Like Nina tried to warn her, but she thought she has a come up with meeting Sean. Let me tell you she learned the hard way and her karma for all the mess she was in hit ya hard🫣.

Can’t forget ya boy Dough! Mr. Lover man himself. Though he was a street 🥷🏽, he was a lover man behind close doors. What I enjoyed about him was how he stood 10 toes down for his sister and niece. He played not a single game about them. Then the war Taylor did him was so disrespectful. He should’ve listened to Nina when she told him she ain’t the one. We all know that saying “can’t turn a (blank) into a house wife”🫣! I said what I said 🤣!!

This Was my first read from this author and I was not disappointed at all. Definitely plan to read more from her as her poem is nice.

A hood Love story for sure!!! Glock putting Nina on was just the beginning of the circus. Glock was about his business through an through but for some one who loved honesty he had a few to many secrets. On top of that he started to move like he was out and put all the pressure on Nina without even knowing it. Didn’t like that on bit. However, he was very intentional with what he wanted and had no problem liking/loving Nina out loud and giving her everything she had lost. They didn’t know it but for sure had a trauma bond. I Loved Glocks relationship with Nina’s daughter Bre and glad he was there for her like a father from the jump and allowed her to be comfortable and loved.

Nina was stronger than most of the men and it seems to always be the case. Sis was in a way perfect for this, but I don’t know why she just didn’t get a regular job to take care of her daughter. I loved Nina and Doughs sibling relationship they had the type of bond of twins even though the weren’t. Dough could have told Nina what it was and been up front and pushed her in another direction even though she was hardheaded. I think they were my favorite part of the whole story. That and Nina finally having the confidence she needed to find herself again.

I wish more was answered seeing how this was a one an done because something don’t add up and were brushed past but had a huge impact on the story. Like what came of the cameras in Glocks momma house? Why was the wife so buddy buddy with the wife? Who was the wife’s real lover? If the momma had nothing how was she still on drugs who supplied them? How many homes did Glock have and not tell Nina about? What they do to that baby? Dough was shown two pictures we know who one of the persons were but who was the other? The most inconsistent thing was the Glock described is not the same Glock on the cover it threw me off. How Glock and Nina go from business to lover when all they did is spend time working nothing showed the real transition other than them moving in and he wanted her. All in all I was glad everyone who needed to get gone got gone and everyone still standing where still standing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars because this book ruined my sleep schedule

I picked up Glock: A Hood Love Story by Jenica J. thinking I was gonna read a little before bed. Next thing I know it’s 2 a.m., my eyes are burning, and I’m whisper-yelling at the book like “now why would you do THAT??” This story grabbed me by the edges and refused to let go.

Nina is a real-life superhero without a cape. A mom doing her best, making tough choices, and still trying to love somebody in the middle of straight chaos. I was rooting for her, stressed for her, and occasionally wanting to shake her like “sis please think!!” Glock though?? When I tell you he came in heavy. Street, protective, and once he started showing up for Nina’s daughter too? Yeah… I was done. Mentally engaged. Emotionally irresponsible. 🫠

The drama in this book is UNEMPLOYED — it just kept showing up. Every time I thought we were about to get peace? Boom. Here come the streets reminding everybody why we can’t have nice things. The twists hit like unexpected text messages that start with “we need to talk.”

Let’s talk about Nina and Dough because that sibling relationship was everything. The jokes, the loyalty, the “I got you no matter what” energy? It added heart and comic relief right when my blood pressure needed it.

This book gave action, love, loyalty, family, stress, laughs, and “just one more chapter” lies. The cover already warns you it’s bold and unapologetic, and the story said “oh, you thought I was playing?” Absolutely not.

If you enjoy urban fiction that will have you laughing, stressed, emotionally attached, and ignoring responsibilities — congratulations, this is your next read.

Five stars. No refunds on emotional damage ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. #chanreads #jenicaj #blackauthor #books #bookrecs

Nina had to get it out of the mudd literally to take care of her and her daughter Bre by herself after her ex Sean, Bre’s dad, gets addicted to the same drügs that he use to sell. With her brother Dough backing her, she ends up meeting Glock to sell him one of Sean’s cars. Glock likes Nina’s whit and feistiness and they end up working together. Glock respected Nina’s hustle and started looking at her as being the Queen to sit beside him on the throne. Everything was all good until Kayelynn Glock’s wife in name only showed up trying to unalive Nina while she was pregnant. I don’t understand why Nina only gave Kaye body shots and not head shots to make sure she was gone but because of that mishap they ended up at war with a cartel. It’s a good thing that Raul was loyal to Glock or they would’ve been messed up because Nina was so hardheaded when Glock told her from day one to follow his instructions. Nina should’ve never stopped and she should’ve propped his bottle up at a red light to feed him. I don’t understand why Glock set up cameras at his mom’s house and he never watched them and in my opinion it should’ve been a funeral service for Glock’s mom for Unclen Ingle and Glock to say their final goodbye.

Mind BLOWN!!!

I had no idea the ride I just took was what I signed up for. Good grief! I am just slain!!!

First off, I absolutely LOVE Nina’s character. She doesn’t take any shuga honey iced tea from anybody, and she takes being a mother to her 11 yo daughter, Bre very seriously. So serious that she will do anything to ensure Bre has what she needs. It drives her to the block to slang with her brother Dough, who really doesn’t want her out there but can’t tell her no.

When she meets Glock, it’s attitude right from the start. Yet, business is business so when opportunity presents itself they are right back in each other’s faces. Glock is definitely paying attention to every thing she does.

They don’t realize that partnering together will erupt war until they are already in the thick of it.

I will say that everyone I wanted to get done up, DID!!! That brought a smile to my face, but Ms. Jenica J. Still gotta see me. She has no idea how frazzled she had me and my sistas reading this book. Giiiiirrrrl, your mine is a scary place babes. 🤭

Nina and London”Glock”

I love me a FMC who’s not with the bullshit, and Nina was exactly that! She talked her talk and backed it up especially when she gave Nelly the business. Glock was really trying to ease her into her soft girl era, because Nina was definitely rough around the edges. The fact that they both had loved ones struggling with addiction made their bond grow even stronger. Glock was so tender with my girl, and I loved that for her. Now, her daughter Bre? I absolutely adored that girl. She was so mature for her age I just hate she had to go through so much so young, but baby girl was loyal and ready to ride. And Dough… I hate how Taylor did him! I even had to give him the side-eye toward the end like, “Sir, what are we doing?”All in all, I love a good standalone, and this one definitely delivered.

The Way Love Finds You💯

I have NEVER READ anything by this author, but she just gained another fan. For this to be the very first book I read by her, I didn't do badly from the recommendation I got LOL😂😂😂 Glock and Nina made their loveship look easy at the beginning until reality set in and ALL Hell broke loose. Glock dropped the ball a few times with Nina, but they made it through all the trials and danger that was set against them. And poor Dough, he gave Taylor his ❤️ and she spit in his face basically saying 🖕🏾, but I thought he would NEVER fall in love again until he met Jasada, and he really seems happy (now we need a book about their Rollercoaster) smh!!! 🔥🔥🔥GREAT READ 🔥🔥🔥

Bloc is hot

Great read first time reading any books from Jenica Johnson and this was absolutely amazing. Nina has a short feels but she don’t play when it comes to her kids. Block already was going through some stuff with his mom and Nina with her kids father however, they made it work Now. Her brother doe can’t believe that he did the switch up was totally totally surprised on that. He was a whole punk when it came down to being in jail how rude. however, he redeemed himself by making sure he did the needful and brought my girl Nina home love this book. It’s a must read, and I can’t wait to read more from this great author.

New to me author alert!!!!

If you in the mood to read urban fiction or urban romance & you really wanna be in the streets this book will you give you that. There is a lot of moving pieces & im not gone lie the “twist” or truth about Glock did seem random as hell but I guess it worked. There is a piece of the story (involving the mayor) that doesn’t make sense to me that part of the storyline wasn’t developed well enough to give me understanding of how it fit into the whole plot line but overall it was a good book & I would recommend to others.

Hood Love , Good Love

Honeyyy Glock and Nina found themselves a perfect match. Both both of them were ready to up that thing and willing to love each other through anything. I love that Glock blended Nina’s daughter into their relationship so amazingly and then having their own child sealed the deal. Now my only push back was , I wish we could’ve got a little more clarification on why did Glocks wife come back. Like why was she so upset? I would like to have had a little bit of deeper dive into that just to like bring the book altogether 100% for me.

A true hood love story 😍

This is my first book by this author. I really enjoyed this read. I love her characters. Glock and Nina have so much in common. I love Nina's relationship with her brother, Dough; they were extremely close. Glock and Nina are very much in love, but in the kind of business they're in, you always have enemies. The book is well-written and the characters flow seamlessly. I would call this a page-turner. I look forward to reading more books by this talented author.

A real good love story!! Full of hustling, unloving, drugs, kidnapping, and the test of loyalty. Glock was a paid good ninja through and through and met his equal when he came in contact with Nina. A mother who had faced some bs with her baby daddy and was only trying to get how she lived and take care of her daughter. I was locked in and ate this book up so quick. This is what I’ve missed. This is urban fiction!!

Good Read, But Needs Editing…

I enjoyed the overall story and found the characters engaging. It had potential to be a really great read. However, there were quite a few grammatical errors that pulled me out of the experience. The pacing also felt rushed in places, especially toward the end, which left some parts feeling underdeveloped. With more thorough editing and a bit more depth, this could be a much stronger book.

Drugs * Love * Survival

After dealing with major disappointment from her husband, Nina is doing what she has to do to take care of their little girl. During an exchange of goods, she meets Glock. Nina is feisty and from life lessons does not take any crap from anybody.. Glock is fear very rich and has a past, but still find himself drawn to Nina.

At times, Nina got on my last nerve because the more she had opportunities to evolve she would still do something stupid.

Although it is a Hood love story it has secrets some shocking revelations and lots of action and of course some spice .

Nice read.

The ending was a little rushed. I think maybe removing some of the fluff from the beginning and adding more details to the end would have been good. Some things didn’t make sense to me. Like sending her to her grandma or moving to the country with one way in and one way out.
