一本十分值得一看的通識書，作者把世界精簡了五大範圍：歷史、經濟、政治、社會和倫理，而每一個範圍，都用上極為容易明白的例子說明，內容生動有趣，絕對是為了解現今世界如何運作，提供了一個簡潔易明的框架。
比起人類大歷史，這一本書還要簡單得多。

Do you know anyone who tries to act intelligent? Or have you ever tried to prented that you are smart even though you are not? Ignorance is always revealed through a conversation. No matter how hard you try to pretend that you are smart, it is very obvious. This book, just like its title, talks about history, economics, politics, society and ethic for intelligent talks. Everything is explained very simply and only essentials are discussed.
This book itself is very interesting, however what makes it even more interesting is the tone. The tone is generally very concise. Nothing unnecessary is discussed and everything is in simple form. Reading this book makes you feel like you are actually listening to a teacher's lecture. And the tone makes it even more like that. Because of its concise tone, the things discussed in the book is easy to understand. Also, the tone makes it not boring to read the book. Usually, reading this kind of books is very boring. Full of terms, people's name and profound explanations. However, since everything is very clearly discussed, it is never boring.
The other element is comparison. Discussing several topics in different fields is not easy to do and understanding those is not easy, too. The authors uses comparison as a device to make the explanation simpler. The comparison makes the readers understand very easily and clearly.
The last and very important element used in this book is using charts. Actually, this is what I like the most about this book. In almost every chapter, the author uses charts to summarize everything. It is difficult to say that this book was published for people to have fun while reading it unlike other fictions or novels. It was made so that people can learn. Therefore, learning something by reading this book is actually the purpose of this book and reading it. And in order to accomplish it, making it easy to understand is very crucial. The charts or notes in this book actually summarize the whole chapter. Also, because of this feature, you do not have to read the whole chapter again when you need the information later. It makes it so easy to learn and fully understand.
I really think that this book is amazing and highly recommend this book to especially students. Some topics discussed in school is also discussed in the book and it is a lot easier to understand. This book will definitely help the students with their lessons.

I read this book because I was learning about the aspects that this book cover in class. I usually like to read fiction books. however, I was able to realize that non-fiction books can be interesting too.
The book really helps the reader to understand the different aspects that the book covers: economy, history, government, ethics, and society. The drawings and examples in the books really help the reader to better understand what the author explains and the book shows both aspects of an idea so that the book is not that biased.
Also, since the book doesn't talk deeply about one topic, but it talks about different topics lightly. Some people may think that this book is not a good book to read to get information, but I believe that this book has enough information to let the reader understand how the events impacted the another.
I really believe that this book is good for students to read before they study deeply about one topic because it really contains broad information about various topics.

지금까지그냥 저냥 대충 알고만 있었던 개념들이 적절한 예시들과 함께 나열, 연결되어 이해도가 높아졌다. 제목 그대로 넓고 얕은 지식이지만, 이정도의 지식도 없이 살아왔다는 게 좀 부끄러워지는 정도. 누군가와 만나서 이런 주제로 대화를 하게 될 날이 얼마나 될 지, 언제 오게 될 지는 모르겠지만 읽어둬서 후회 없는 책. 관련 책으로 2권 더 나와있는 걸로 알지만, 읽기 시작하는게 어렵겠지... 이 책을 읽다보니 원래, 늘 읽어왔던 내 취향의 책들이 얼마나 재밌고 흥미로웠는지 새삼 깨닫게 되었다. 조금 더 빠른 시기에 읽었으면 사회를 이해하는데 더 도움이 되었겠지만 지금이라도 읽어서 다행이다.

말 그대로 넓고 얕은 지식. "수다도 능력이다"라고 본다면 그 정도 대화를 위해서 필수요건?만 적어놓았다.
특히, 경제학 전공인 나로서는 우격다짐 경제원리+역사 요약이 아주 간단하고 신선하고 재미있었다.
주제 자체가 역사,경제,정치,사회,윤리와 같은 묵직한 인문학 분야라 읽을 때야 이해하는 것 같아도 바로 돌아서면 뭘 읽었나 하게 되는 책.
도서관에서 빌려서 읽었는데 나중에 기회되면 가볍게 또 읽어보고 싶은 책.

Great book to have bit of understanding of how the world runs really. And how things are all linked, politics to economy, to society. and how this affects our life.

This book will always be one of my favorite.
No body breaks down complicated shit so easily like he does.
It is not a kind of book I would usually read but I sure am glad I read this book.
I am sure I will get back to this book when I feel like I need some resharpening on my brain.

간단명료하게 사회 구성원으로써 대화를 나누기 위해 필요한 기본 교양 지식들을 정리해주는 책. 어려운 단어들이 있어 몇몇 부분들은 반복해서 읽어야 할 때가 있었지만, 이를 불구하고도 한번쯤은 읽어보면 세상에 대한 시야가 넓혀지는 기회가 될 수 있는 책.

내 세상의 해상도를 올려준 책이다.
경제가 어떻게 역사를 만들어 나갔고, 모든 정치는 경제로 연관되어 있다는 것을 설명해주었다.
생산수단을 가진자가 옛날에고 지금이고 세상을 지배하는지, 그리고 부유층과 노동자가 과거와 현재 모두 어떤 싸움을 이어나가고 있는지 정말 재미있게 가르쳐 주었다.
세상을 살고 있는 사람이라면 꼭 한번 읽어봐야한다고 생각한다.

雖然分成五大主題，但每個主題其實都是以經濟為軸心展開，和預想的不太一樣不過用和以往不同的脈絡去理解這幾個主題還滿有趣的。講得很清楚，本來有點混亂的概念被整理得很明確。
只是書裡一直將所有問題（社會問題、政治選擇等等）簡單歸咎於經濟體制的抉擇讓我感覺有點 嗯 怪怪的？

2016년 10일에 한권씩 책을 읽기로 결심한 후의 첫 책읽기.
팟캐스트에서 인기를 얻어 책으로 출간되게 되었다.
1, 2권으로 나누어져 있는데 내가 읽은 것은 1권이다.
1권에는는 역사, 경제, 정치, 사회, 윤리 이렇게 5개의 파트로 나누어져 있다.
2권에서는 현실 너머의 세계를 다루고 있다고 한다. 훗날 기회가 되면 2권도 읽어보려고 한다.
1권의 내용을 간략하게 설명하자면, 각각의 영역(역사, 경제, ... )를 거시적으로 2개의 극단적인 측면으로 나누어서 설명하고 있다. 이해하기 쉽게 큰 그림을 그려주는 느낌이었고, 더 세세하게는 개인의 공부가 더 필요할 것 같다.
평소 전공 지식이 아닌 분야에 내가 얼마나 무심했는지 알게 되는 계기가 되었다.
