Fangs After Dark: Club Crimson Book Two

Rate this book
In a city where vampires and humans mingle, Club Crimson is more than just a strip club. It's a sanctuary for broken souls, a haven for women escaping their pasts.

Twyla spends her nights mentoring dancers and running the business behind the scenes, always in control, always watching… especially when it comes to Vena, the club’s bold and flirty bartender. For five years, Twyla’s kept her feelings buried, convinced that someone like Vena, outgoing, untamed, and constantly surrounded by admirers could never want someone like her.

But Vena has secrets too. Behind the teasing smiles and one-night flings, she’s hiding a heart that’s only ever wanted Twyla. But when a newly rescued dancer enters the equation, shaken and in need of protection, Twyla and Vena are forced into close quarters to help her heal. As tension rises and old walls start to crumble, both women must finally confront the feelings they’ve been avoiding and decide if love is worth the risk.

Sapphic vampires that run/ work at a strip club for women? Yeah, I am there. This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone, but I really wish that I had read the first in series before I read this because I did feel like I was missing out on some of the background of this world. But I was still able to enjoy the story and the relationship between the two main characters and the plot of the book. It’s a world where vampires are out in the open and for the most part, they try to be ethical. Of course, there are always the bad ones, and our main characters are doing what they can to protect those that are being attacked. This was a pretty short story and one that could be read in a day or so. It was a fairly slow burn, which seems on par for lesbians. They dance around their feelings until they burn so passionate. I enjoyed reading the inner thoughts of both of these females and how even a 500 year old vampire could have some of the same insecurities that we all have around women.

Twyla and Vena are definitely interesting characters. They are very different on the surface, but when you get to know more about each of them, you find they they are not like the image that they present on the surface at all. Twyla is an older, powerful vampire but she gives off the appearance that she is more timid. But she is a fierce protector of all of the women that work at the club as well as women that have been attacked or taken advantage of. Vena appears to be the cocky player bartender, taking home women every night. But when you get to know her, she is deeper and more unsure of herself. She pines for Twyla.

This was a quick read and as someone that enjoys vampires and vampire lore, I thought it was an interesting read. There is definitely some spice, but it takes a minute to get there. These two centuries old lesbians are ridiculous. It takes them time and secrets to actually get to really know each other. I think that this book could have been longer because I would have loved to really dive into some things, but it is worth reading if you want something quick, spicy, and filled with sapphic parnormals.

Huge thank you to the author and to flyingpigpr for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest review! I’m rating this a 3.5 stars!

Fangs after dark was such a fun little sapphic novella that I enjoyed reading. First of all, I really like how these novellas revolve around Club Crimson. Club crimson is a haven for women escaping their pasts and that alone sucked me in because I really do love seeing women care for other women. In this novella, we meet Twyla and Vena who both work at club crimson.

I loved Twyla and Vena’s story as it was cute seeing how these two women who feel like complete opposites managed to both really like one another. They’ve had their fair share of flirty moments and just joking around but under all of that were actual building feelings for both of them. Not only do they both like each other, but they are set up to work together when it comes down to helping rescue a new dancer together. It’s times like this where you can see Twyla and Vena both open up their hearts to each other and work together as a team to protect the innocent with their lives. Having been avoiding their feelings this whole time, it was beautiful when they finally just let everything out in the open and were able to fully be together. I loved the trust they had in each other as well as their bonded moment that truly cemented their relationship.

Fangs After Dark is a spicy, sapphic, paranormal novella featuring Twyla and Vena. Both are vampires who work in a club. Twyla runs the business and mentors the dancers while Vena is the bartender. They've known one another for five years, each secretly pining for the other. When Vena gets a call to urgently pick up Twyla and one of the dancers (a human), she gets a glimpse of Twyla's extra-curricular activities. A little forced proximity leads to the top finally popping and feelings being shared.

I wanted to love this one but unfortunately that wasn't the case for me. I liked the characters but felt like the author tried to put too much into this story. I felt inundated with details. The story could have been simplified to allow for more character development.

Just because this novella wasn't my cup of tea, doesn't mean it is not yours. I would encourage you to check it out for yourself.

3.5⭐️ After Dark blends paranormal vibes and vampire energy with a sapphic romance at its core, which was exactly what first drew me in. The premise offered an interesting mix of dark secrets, supernatural intrigue, and lovers navigating danger and desire.

While this one didn’t fully click for me personally, I genuinely appreciate the representation and the effort to blend romance with paranormal suspense. If you’re into vampires and paranormal themes, there are definitely sparkly bits here to enjoy. Thank you to Flying Pig PR and the author for the gifted ARC.

This was a great novella. I love it when the characters quietly pine for one another. As if the case with Twyla and Vena. Loved that there were both vampires. Fell in love with the fact that Club Crimson took in women that need the safety and the shelter as well. That was really cool that there were looking out for one another.
Vena abs Twyla were great with the m they flirty banter. Really great novella

This was so good! I liked the two main characters a lot. They were a bit deceiving until you got to know them better and realized there was more to them than meets the eye. I loved the contrast between them. The tension was also good and kept you guessing as to who would finally give in and when. The mystery/suspense aspect was also really well done and I will definitely be reading more from this author!
