June 10, 2026This one was truly a labor of love and a lesson on patience. Many of these stories (like BestGhost to completion) were written in the times when I was giving the Welcome to Cemetery manuscript a rest. Many of them saw BETA readers and rewrites before the final draft of the novel was completed. But the thing is I knew I needed the novel to publish first…in order to share background lore or campfire stories of your world you need to first share the world. So this one was a lot of waiting. I can’t begin to tell you how hard it was to reel myself in and not release them as a million sample stories…
While I did shop some of them around, nothing really came of it because they were written for this purpose, and not to someone else’s anthology specs (except for Chupabogra, which is set to appear in the charity anthology METALHEARTS). I believed in them, but knew they only really fit this cohesive, interlocking (but also not) collection. All of these, save for one, have been completed since 2023. When All I Feel Is Pain is the only recent write, as it is heavily influenced by my 2024 breakup.
It’s also strange, because as a reader, I am not really a fan of open endings, yet I can’t seem to write anything else in my short stories. So, please note this one will definitely hit for fans of them, or possibly (really) not hit for readers who hate them (as some of the more divisive BestGhost reviews have shown). Is it because I want there to be an ounce of hope to the horrors—a choose your own meaning or outcome? Or maybe it helps that campfire story feel with its ‘fade to black’ spooky ending? Or maybe I just really like what I created and maybe they will all return in Tales From Cemetery Vol. 2 or some sequel. I guess only time will tell…
Either way, all this author hopes is that you enjoy these stories, that you find something to like in these tiny horrors. Happy reading.

’Tales from Cemetery’ is an anthology of horror stories, each and every one of them with their own plot and characters, but all happening in this town called, accidentally ironic, Cemetery.
What I truly enjoyed was that even stories that were familiar (think stalker/killer Scream vibe) brought up twists and turns that surprised me.
The collection covers a wide range of topics, from creepy clowns and zombies to haunted houses and mental illness. You're sure to get a dose of classic horror, complete with a few goosebumps along the way. It’s a fun and easy read for any horror fan looking for some quick, scary tales.
By far my favorites were:
- ‘Rigatoni Carl Clown’, because it touches us to a deeper level, it's not just a fear factor, and it certainly reminded me a lot of ‘The Joker’ with Joaquin Phoenix, also of Kevin character from the ‘Split’ movie (it's sad, it's scary to the most primal level, it's creepier than anything because it's still a human)
- ’When all I feel is pain’ story, because it tackled the grief topic and mixed it very masterfully with a cryptid horror to bring out the worst and the best in a human being
These two short stories scratched that psychological horror itch that I always live with, they are PERFECTION.

This was a fun collection of short stories all centered around the fictional town of Cemetary, NY. Daley hits on some very familiar/classic tropes, often times adding in his own twist. From slasher, to killer clown, to zombie, to wendigo, this collection has a little bit of everything. There is certainly something for everyone to enjoy in this one.
The standout for me was the final story, for me, When All I Feel Is Pain. I felt the grief in this one and loved the creature feature addition to it.
I skipped the last story in the collection for now as I haven't read Welcome to Cemetary yet and I didn't want any spoilers.

This is a fun and spooky collection of twelve short stories, perfect for the Halloween season. Some of the tales are clearly inspired by classic horror films, and those little nods were a real treat to discover.
The stories get straight to the point without unnecessary padding, but there is still enough depth to picture each scene vividly and feel immersed alongside the characters. The variety keeps the collection fresh, and there was never a moment where I felt bored or wanted to skip ahead.
A lively and entertaining anthology that captures the Halloween spirit and delivers just the right dose of chills.

A short-story collection all written by CJ Daley. 3.5 stars. 12 tales that range from haunted houses, Halloween-themed haunted theme parks. Zombies, scary clowns, and mentally insane people chasing you. Several stories are very memorable, and scary in a tense and feel like I'm constantly being chased by a murderer vibe. Several stories (at least 1 or 2) I was very into but the ending came too suddenly even for a short story, or the ending left me unsatisfied. I probably took a full star off for those a they were the bright spots in the collection to me and could have been 5 stars. I do recommend this book. I think you will be scared, you will be disturbed, and not because it's gory or extreme horror. It's good because it's actually dealing with things that scare you at your core.... ok bumping it back up to a 4 star.

If you’re looking for the perfect read to get you in the mood for spooky season, look no further! C.J. Daley’s “Tales from Cemetery” is reminiscent of Alvin Schwartz’s “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”, which was a staple from my childhood. This collection of stories also reminded me of a recent favorite, “Found: An Anthology of Found Footage Horror Stories”, edited by Andrew Cull and Gabino Iglesias.
Right from the jump, this book delivers a sense of dread with the opening story, “Rigatoni Carl”, which gave me yet another reason to be weary of clowns. “Knight of the Living Dead” was an entertaining George Romero-esque trope of a zombie outbreak in a carnival setting. Daley also included his novelette, BestGhost, which captured the world of found footage and haunted houses so perfectly, and left me wanting more.
I could go on, but I don’t want to spoil the fun. I’m thankful for NetGalley allowing me to read the ARC. Don’t hesitate to read this book for yourselves, and prepare to be spooked!

This collection of short horror stories is the perfect fall read. I absolutely love that the town of Cemetery had all of these terror filled stories that were individual yet seemed to belong together. The clown and the ghost hunters were my favorite of the stories but they were all an ode to the classic horror genre . Get this ! Read this ! Coming your way October 7, 2025. I cannot wait to see who else loves this as much as I do.

This collection of short horror stories delivers a chilling experience with its descriptive writing and varying levels of horror. It kept me hooked, leaving me wanting more in the best way. If you are a lover of stories that are centered around a town such as Stephen King’s Derry then you’ll definitely love this book. This anthology is definitely describe as small town horror. We all read about towns where unexplained things happens.
My favorite stories were:
Rigatoni Carl- This story is about a man who decides that being a clown is an outlet to the years of abuse he has experienced from both of his parents. This story was very gruesome and horrifying. Although, very scary I think this should definitely be a novel.
Knight of the living dead- The zombie fans would love this story. This story was about a man that is a zombie. What’s unfortunate is this It just happens this takes place on Cemetery’s scream fest night. Attendees beware.
Best Ghost- This book is about two ghost hunting friends that decide to tackle the most haunted place to exist “The Old Mayor’s Mansion”. A sight for a gruesome murder and paranormal activity. I definitely love the book and the premise for the story. I enjoyed the backstory to the Mayor’s Mansion it was so good I think this be considered its own story.
This is recommended for people that love

As I have written in another review I find it difficult to properly rate short story collections. I thought that most the stories in the first 40%-50% of the book was just okay, some where a little underwhelming and not very scary. I think all of the stories except 2 of them are about 3 stars.
I think this short story collection is perfect for people who are new to horror and want to gently ease into the genre with stories that are not too scary! All in all I enjoyed the book.
Favorite stories:
Mr. Cody - 4 stars
- I am always creeped out by a haunted house and creepy basement
BestGhost: A Novelette - 5 stars
- I read this in bed in the dark at night.. and I was actually scared and spooked. This was really good and I was left wanting more at the end!

Tales from Cemetery is a thrilling collection of short horror stories taking place in the New York town of Cemetery. While the town of Cemetery was originally established in Book 1, Welcome to Cemetery, readers can jump right into these short stories without having read it.
There's a fun variety of spooky themes explored in the collection. Each short story is entertaining and fun to read; some I wish were longer just because they were so interesting, "BestGhost" being a great example.
As a new reader of C.J. Daley, this book was a great introduction to his writing and I look forward to his future work!

The perfect read for Halloween, Tales From Cemetery truly are tales from Cemetery, the town full of crimes and strange happenings; the setting for the main novel: Welcome to Cemetery. There’s nowhere out there where you can find stalker clowns, creatures with human sized rabbit feet print, basement ghosts, and a pair of ghost hunters with no sense of survival in the same town as a gruesome crime with headless bloodless bodies!
I love anthologies/short stories and thoroughly enjoyed this collection all the same. A few shorts a night hits just right for the month of October and there’s a little bit of everything from Chupacabra ChupaBogra to strange music in the house. There’s creative originals like the renaissance zombies and then you’ve your classic horrors with a nice little twist: being home alone when you hear a sound, the killer clowns, the séance gone wrong.
This collection is an awesome addition to read after you’ve finished the original novel as there are some neat Easter eggs and callbacks to Welcome to Cemetery (including some characters!), but if you haven’t, the story opens up with the introduction to the novel (and town), helping give a peek into the vibe Cemetery gives off. Even if you start here, you can still enjoy this book just as it is.
An enjoyable read, if you are looking for a handful of scary stories, bite sized like the perfect Halloween candy, definitely give Tales from Cemetery a try!

First if all I would like to thank C.J. Daley for being the coolest person ever and also for sending me this ARC! The book contains short horror stories from vampires to ghost haunting and just about everything you would love if you are a horror enthusiast. The writing was so good! The author manages to write each story in a different tone and writing making each story unique and each story stands out from the other one.
"The thing about grieving is that it’s lonely. Not just the loss of a loved one, but once those that flock to you for support have lost interest—their minds can’t possibly stay zeroed in quite like yours—they slowly dissipate too. While you’re still stuck in the stages of grief, others have returned to business as usual."
All stories had very distinctive storytelling, each story was so different. You can tell how much the author loves writing horror because you see so much passion and hard work. Some books were spooky and honestly creeped me out, while some made you question your reality and some just made you cry. He was able to bring so many different emotions and morals in these stories, he is not just writing horror stories but is also conveying a message. Friendship, lost hope, losing a loved one; most of these topics you won't find portrayed so well in a short story. I was so glad to read more about Detective Williams and Reyes!! I'm so honored to have officially read all his books and I can't wait for more books regardless the genre the author chooses! again a huge thank you to the author for sending me this gem and go read it on OCT 7th and have a once in a life experience of reading this spooky book to get ready for halloween vibes!!

The perfect book to read this Halloween!
I signed up to receive the ARC for this book and I was not disappointed, thank you C.J. Daley for sending me (and writing) this gem!
this book features a collection of short horror stories, each has a completely different theme than the other, so there is everything for everyone.
Each story was so well-written and flowed really well, it felt like you were being transformed from one world to another. The characters didn't feel reused, each story had original and unique characters. The first story completely unnerved me, and made me feel uncomfortable, that's just how immersive and realistic these stories feel like.
you will find yourself reading from the perspective of the victims and the killers, with such a drastic change in perspective, it will be impossible to put the book down. Every story comes with a twist that you won't see coming (the third story made me gasp!)
If you're someone who likes horror stories, definitely check this out, I promise you won't regret it, it comes out today!

The characters didn't feel reused, each story had original and unique characters. The first story completely unnerved me, and made me feel uncomfortable, that's just how immersive and realistic these stories feel like.
you will find yourself reading from the perspective of the victims and the killers, with such a drastic change in perspective, it will be impossible to put the book down. Every story comes with a twist that you won't see coming (the third story made me gasp!)
If you're someone who likes horror stories, definitely check this out, I promise you won't regret it, it comes out today!

Hudson Valley residents tell stories around campfires about Cemetery’s dark underbelly. While the police chase serial killers, the streets run rampant with occult, paranormal, and supernatural beings.
Great premise, and if the stories were meant for young adults, then C. J. Daley hit the mark. Unfortunately, I am not a young adult, and I found the stories to be juvenile at best. I hate to complain about a style, but the stories within those books were predictable. The story "Dinner Date," for example, had a twist ( being generous with that term), and every time the story gave a hint, it was written in italics to clue you in. Really??? I mean... really?
The author does.mention this is their first attempt at writing horror before their horror novel that this group of stories is based on, so there is that.
Good for Halloween story time with the kids or if you don't usually read the genre.

a good variety of different horror tales, plus an already published novella (which i read and enjoyed, hence why i signed up for the arc). im newer to the horror genre, especially this kind of horror. nevertheless, i enjoyed the balance between spooky stuff and the more emotional side of it, enjoyed the atmosphere and this strange town (a weakness of mine). for some, i wished they were expanded a bit more (especially the dinner one) while others could use a bit more background information, but overall i would recommend this to people wanting to try out the horror genre due to the mix of everything it has to offer.

Tales from cemetery such a great read i received an Arc copy for a review and what a good read i enjoyed all the story no bad one and how often can you say that there are sond easter eggs if you have read Welcome to cemetery which I have not yet but i will do in the near future a very light horror with a twisted do if you want someone a nice indie author check him out you will enjoy i can see the horror fan play with words and love of the craft he writes about. #CJDsCurrentRead/CJDaleyWrites

I enjoyed this collection a lot. Author C.J. Daley offers something for everyone and Easter eggs if you read Welcome to Cemetery. 😉
This is a solid collection of stories. Some stories are really dark, some humorous, and others creepy or scary. There are 90s and other nostalgia vibes, as well as homages to many horror favorites. My favorite stories are Knight of the Living Dead, ChupaBogra, and BestGhost: A Novelette.

Tales from Cemetery is a really well written collection of horror stories all based in the fictional Hudson Valley town of Cemetery.
The dark name of the town is perfect for the number of strange happenings going on in the area. It's a hotspot of supernatural and paranormal activity. A place where the police have their hands full of serial killers and unexplained occult occurrences.
There are 11 stories in total which showcase the author's fiendish imagination and ability to tap into various types of horror.
If you're already afraid or wary of clowns then Rigatoni Carl will totally freak you out. He's the most deranged killer clown you're likely to come across. Think Joaquin Phoenix's Joker but turned up a notch!
We then get stories of monster horror with a creature in the woods, and a humorous take on modern day vampires. There's a tale of a horror movie loving couple, sinister phone calls and a final girl style attack that really keeps you guessing as to the outcome.
There's an interesting take on flesh eating zombies in a theme park in Knight of the Living Dead, a séance that goes horribly wrong, ghost lovers, a house sitting with paranormal activity in the basement, a haunted mansion with a ghost hunting team in the BestGhost novelette, and a return to the woods for another dose of horror.
I've deliberately not read the 11th story as it's a bonus story that gives spoilers to the author's novel Welcome To Cemetery. If you don't want to read the novel then this bonus story works as a standalone but I've enjoyed these Tales from Cemetery and I can't think of any higher praise than to say that I would like to read the novel before this extra tale.

So fun to be back in Cemetery just in time for Halloween! The first book set in Cemetery was action-packed, spooky, and full of surprises. Tales From Cemetery brings us back, this time in bite-sized snippets. Through a series of short stories, we meet various residents of this strange little town, and the horror comes in all shapes and forms.
This is the perfect book to read before Halloween! Highly recommended for anyone who loves the spooky season and wants something light yet chilling to set the mood. A fun, short read.

A really cool collection of short stories that is great for fall and spooky season!
The cover does remind me of like goosebumps or crypts and it's an entire seasonal vibe that is nostalgic and wonderful.
The stories cover a lot. Different classic monsters and more phycological horrors and cyrtids and mental illness.

This is a fun collection of short stories that happen around a town called Cemetery. Some are scarier than others, but my favourite is Don't Scream - Calls From Home. It's a perfect read for Halloween and Spooky season, with stories that will appeal to everyone who loves scary stories.
