Rate this book
There is nothing wrong with ashes. Sometimes you have to burn things to the ground so something new can grow.

The realm of Ardaion stands on a knife’s edge, two queens locked in a battle for its soul. Fae courts once bound by law and blood have splintered. From the fledgling Twilight Court, Serena unites a council of outcasts and former enemies beneath a single to protect their home from a darkness that is no longer merely political, but something far older.

Across the water, Queen Mab’s ruthless alliance with a mercenary army prepares a scorched-earth campaign to wipe Twilight—and its queen—off the map. But Mab’s hunger for power has a cost. As she experiments with dark forces to fuel her ambitions, the very foundations of Ardaion begin to fracture. What rises from those fractures is something even Mab could not foresee.

The final war for the Trident Throne has begun.

Mother against daughter. Queen against queen. Siren against Siren.

Legacy is an epic fantasy combining the queen-driven scale of Kingdom of Ash, the dark siren mythology of To Kill a Kingdom, and the generational conflict of The Poppy War.

Legacy is the third and final book in the bestselling Trident Throne Trilogy by Canadian author Isla Melysin.

Themes & coming of age, burden of leadership, found family, mates, matriarchy, politics, military strategy, sacrifice

Legacy by Isla Melysin is the perfect conclusion to the Trident Throne Trilogy-one that kept me on edge until the very last pages.
From start to finish, this book never lets you get too comfortable. Just when I thought I knew where things were heading, the story took turns I genuinely didn't expect. Major moments hit hard, and the emotional payoff is immense-this book hurts in the best way. It's the kind of ending that reminds you how deeply you've grown attached to these characters.
One of my favorite aspects was getting to see so many beloved characters from across the entire trilogy come together. It truly felt like a full-circle moment, honoring everything that came before. The stakes felt earned, the tension stayed high, and the emotional beats landed exactly where they needed
to.
My only real complaint? That it's over. Saying goodbye to this world and these characters was genuinely difficult. I also would have loved a bit more clarity around the ancient force that manipulates Mab-it felt intentionally mysterious, but I was left wanting just a little more explanation.
That said, Legacy is a powerful, emotional, and satisfying finale. If you've followed this trilogy from the beginning, this ending delivers-heartache, shock, and all. Isla Melysin once again proves why her stories linger long after the final page.

I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for this whole trilogy! Amazing experience

Legacy is the finale to the Trident Throne Trilogy. As a reader who's followed each part of Serena's journey, this series as a whole feels like an odyssey. There is romance, political intrigue and elements of war and danger. Melysin does a great job depicting the grittiness of the expansive world and the dark magic laced within. The stakes of war are evident and there were many moving pieces with the side characters.

My favourite parts of the story come from Mab. Throughout the trilogy, I watched her spiral and saw her ruthlessness at the forefront. I think that her thunder was taken by something else that came out of nowhere to me. Otherwise, her descent is tragic and I found her scenes with Serena to be calculative befitting an antagonist.

I loved how this book can be seen as an homage to the trilogy. Without spoilers, parts that I enjoyed most from previous books were given tribute in Legacy and that brought me to tears. Seeing Lyam, Rhune, and Graye cooperating with one another rather than rivaling each other in previous books is growth I didn't expect to see and there were some sweet scenes between them and Serena that broke up the events of the War which makes for a balanced read.

If you are looking for an epic fantasy that focuses more on deep and complex worldbuilding, rise of powerful queens, and chosen family, this trilogy is for you.

A Masterful end to an absolutely scintillant trilogy.

Legacy, delivers the perfect conclusion to the Trident Throne Saga, leaving you as a reader not quite complete.

This book steals something from you, while simultaneously gifting you the art of found family, new life, loss, love, and every other darned evocation you can think of.

Legacy delivers.

High stakes, resolution and conflict crescendo into one tumultuous arc and your heartrate never quite slows, as the authors twists and turns build, and build until you inevitably break alongside the story.

The ending leaves room for expansion, leaves you needing to know somethings, and accepting that some secrets belong to the author and the author alone.

As a reader I am blown away by the trip this saga took me on and it will be one I return to read again in the years ahead.

Legacy is everything I love about fantasy…rich world-building, fierce queens, and a story packed with tension, loyalty, and betrayal. Isla Melysin creates a realm that feels alive, from the politics of the Fae courts to the emotional stakes behind every battle. Serena and Mab’s rivalry kept me hooked, and the writing is both poetic and powerful. A stunning, immersive read for anyone who loves high-stakes fantasy with heart.
