Prophecy of Vyrdanor #2

The Echoes of The Prophecy

Rate this book
Born in shadow, raised on strategy, and sharpened by every cruel lesson of power, he has always known how the Allied Realms see him.

Villain. Usurper. Prince of Chaos.

Yet in the eyes of his people, he is something else entirely—protector, reformer, the one willing to challenge a broken order.

Vyrdanor fractures at its edges. Trade falters, rulers cling to privilege, and the old guard tightens its grip. He intends to tear down what no longer serves and build something new—fairer and stronger, for those long ignored by thrones and crowns.

But destiny rarely bends to design. A bond awakens in him—ancient, undeniable, tethered to someone who cannot be his. She is light to his shadow, loyal where he is forbidden, yet the only truth he cannot outmaneuver.

Temptation wars with loyalty. Love collides with duty. And still, patience becomes his weapon—each breath a vow, chosen silence a prayer that she will choose him before the world unravels.

The Echoes of The Prophecy continues a sweeping tale of fire and shadow, of forbidden bonds, ruthless politics, and the fragile hope of remaking a realm.

Bestselling author Maelana Nightingale writes romance that bleeds, breathes, and burns—stories where love is messy, healing is hard, and desire is sacred.

Her novels span contemporary found-family romances, dark and taboo stories, and sweeping romantic fantasy, united by raw emotion and unflinching realism. Known for intimate, character-driven storytelling, her work explores connection, power, and trust in ways that feel lived-in rather than performative—and never shies away from the complicated edges of love.

A nurse by trade and storyteller by soul, she brings authenticity to every page—from medical precision to the psychology of trauma, trust, and connection. When she’s not writing, she’s usually wrangling one of her five children or navigating the controlled chaos of her corporate healthcare day job.

There’s something genuinely magical about Maelana’s writing, and Echoes of the Prophecy is no exception. The world, the characters, the emotion—it all pulls you in and refuses to let go. This story feels like stepping into a place where prophecy, fate, and magic are actually alive on the page.

I may be a little biased because I’m lucky enough to call Maelana a friend, but I’d still scream about her books even if I didn’t know her. Watching her create these worlds is incredible, but getting to disappear into them as a reader is even better. Echoes of the Prophecy is beautiful, immersive, and pure freaking magic.

Five stars, zero hesitation. Maelana Nightengale, you have magic in your bones. 🖤

This book goes hand in hand with the 1st book. It could be tandem read with the 1st (I did not do that this go round, but maybe next time!) You get to see events from another POV, which to me is always amazing. I know some people are strange with that, but I always enjoy knowing everything happening all at once. Maelana is a fantastic author and knows how to make you feel emotions in her writing, which gives this a 5 star just like the last book in the series!

Oh my… I LOVED getting back into this world!!! 😍 Thank you again Mae for letting me read this early 🫶🏼 I just love how Mae writes ~her writing is lyrical with immersive world building. Characters are layered and complex. It was fun to see the male POV and learn Kaelix’s backstory. 🫶🏼 Book 2 is THICKKK but the story flows seamlessly. Could see a lot of similarities to today’s political climate… 👀 Very excited to see where this story goes! 😍

Narrowing down my favorite quotes was a challenge but here are a “few” of them… 😆

🔥 “Change is not destruction. It is becoming.” “Change without apology. The sea does not ask permission to reshape the shore.” “They are human beings. They deserve food, shelter, healthcare, and education. Not because they might someday become useful to us. Because those are the basic rights every person deserves.”

🌊 “You ever think of how strange it is?…that the same sea touches every kingdom — all the rest of them. All divided above, but below? It’s all one thing. Makes are borders seem…fragile.” “We share the same seas, the same sky. Perhaps we are not as far divided after all.”

💪🏼“You understand it now, it’s not about being untouched. It’s about deciding what still belongs to you, and what does not…the world will try to take more from you than you should ever give. This…reminds you that you still have a choice.” “Don’t insult our intelligence by pretending this was about safety. You can’t erase power from your daughters and then pretend it was for their own good. You lied to them. You lied so well I think you even believed it.”

I loved book one, The Echoes of Shattered Realms, which was a beast of a book at 769 pages. It was so good. So when I found out this book was coming out, I got very excited, even though this one is even more of a beast!

The Echoes of the Prophecy is the same story, but told from Prince Kaelix's point of view.

But here's the thing...

It did not feel like a retelling. It felt like a completely new story.

I didn't realize just how much was missing from The Echoes of Shattered Realms. That book felt like a complete story, but after reading The Echoes of the Prophecy, I realized there was so much more to the story. Now, it truly feels complete.

Maelana Nightingale has such a unique voice and writing style, and it makes these books feel fresh and new. Even though we're experiencing the same overall story, seeing everything from Kaelix's point of view gives us a completely different experience.

Just like the first book, this one is full of heartache, tragedy, love, and humor.

I gave the first book four stars because of some minor pacing issues, but I had absolutely no issues with the pacing in this one. I could not put it down!

And the banter?

The banter is bantering.

The tension kept me flipping pages because I needed to know what was going to happen next, even though I already new how everything turns out.

And then we get to that ending.

JAW. DROPPED.

I cannot wait to see where this story goes next.

If you loved The Echoes of Shattered Realms, you absolutely need to read The Echoes of the Prophecy. And if you haven't started this series yet, add it to your TBR!

Thank you to Maelana for the opportunity to ARC read this book!

I gave this book 4.5 stars only because the beginning of the book was a little harder for me to enjoy. I know that it was important to the story to get history on Kaelix and how he developed as a person, a leader, and a future king. The first third of the book focuses on Kaelix learning about other realms and how to build a relationship with the mortal realm and eventually with the other young generation of royalty. It also spends time showing his romantic interests before he meets our FMC from the first book. Again, I can see how it shaped him and prepared him for the future, but it was just tough for me to read about his love of other women.

Now, once we got to where Kaelix and Avaline meet for the first time...WOW! Loved it! The author writes such rich characters and describes scenes in a way that makes you feel like you are there. It was amazing getting to read the story from his point of view. There were so many parts of the story that you did not know was happening in the first book because Kaelix and Avaline were not together. These books are what I would consider epic fantasy because of the world building, the characters, the different types of magic, and how the story evolves over a long period of time.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves high fantasy!

Wow! Absolute devastation wrapped in divine light!! I fell in love with these characters all over again!! The second installment to this series did not disappoint! I loved how this book focused mainly on Kaelix’s story. Every character had a deep meaning and thread to his history. Reading in tandem with EOSR helped bring this whole story together for me.
Mae’s writing is so poetic and flows smoothly, it is honestly one of my favorite things about her books, It also hits “ the nail on the head” with the problems going on in society today, In a world where women are silenced this book gives you a reason to stand up and be heard!
Favorite quotes
“ We don’t ostracize fear and call it peace. We build stability. We make them contributors. Not untrained weapons waiting to misfire.”

“Some endings must be chosen. That if you don’t lay them down yourself, they will follow you-bleeding into every moment that comes after until you no longer know where one life ends and the next begins.”

“ There will be nights I hold you like spun glass, nights I ruin you with devotion, and nights I break you apart just to put you back together again.”

Thank you again for allowing me to be a ARC reader and this is my honest review

Whewwww the way I was PSYCHED when I saw the page count on this book.

The bad: the first 20% or so had weird prose that started to grate. “Not X, but Y” okay, stop telling us what things are not. And the dialog was very choppy. Were we having a picture painted? Yes, I suppose, but I was so glad to move on from that.

However the rest? Fantastic. I did read the first book in the series a few months ago, and I think that was for the best. I’m not sure that a tandem read or even one after the other would have kept my attention, because this one *was* 20 or so hours of reading time, per my kindle. I think I would’ve soured a bit on the story if it was 40 hours.

This book is massive amounts of politics, so if you don’t like court intrigue, skip the book, you’ll hate it. If you’re here for the spice, it’s there but as an aside, so you’ll likely be disappointed. Much more yearning than spice. If you like very immersive worlds, and politicking, and referencing family trees, sit down and be ready to lose 20 hours.

Okay... So hear me out!!!

I had been SALIVATING waiting for this to come into my possession, and I jumped right in (FYI there is a tandem read option for those who love that) and YES!!!

We are taken back in time, to the beginning of the Prince of Chaos...

Learning Thorne's history, how he became who he was and watching who he grew in to, mind blowing! So many influences, so many connections, so much destruction. And love. Heavy. Sigh. 🫶

As it all started to come together, and I remembered where and WHEN we were - I went full "DON'T TALK TO ME, I'M READING!!!!" Be still my heart because I fell in love with that man's love for Avie!!

And this one time, in Anatomy Class... HA!!! I could see it playing out in my head! Goddess save the peaches! (iykyk) 🍑

How did I burn through this thikkk girl so fast??!! Oh, I'll tell you... MAE IS A GENIOUS. that is all.

Gimme more!

Thank you to the author for this advanced copy! I loved being back with these characters and with Mae’s writing.

This series is so epic and the whole time reading it, I had an entire movie playing in my head. I could definitely picture this series on the big screen.

I love a good coming of age story and this one was so so good! I loved seeing the events from book 1 and prior through a new male POV 👀. Male POVs are my favorite and it’s so rare to get this much insight into an MMC’s thoughts.

Avaline is still one of my absolute favorite FMCs. And seeing the MMC from a young age into adulthood made me appreciate his growth, journey, and overall personality so much.

I was afraid I wouldn’t remember the characters since it’s been so long since I read book 1, but they are all so memorable and each shine on the page, that I had no problem following everything.

While this was a huge book, no words were wasted. I love Mae’s writing, her storytelling ability, and the emotions she pours into her stories and characters that make the reader feel something.

The epilogues really set the stage for the next book and I feel like Mae has barely scratched the surface with this series. I fear for the turmoil these characters will be put through, but I’m excited to continue their story.

This series is a must!! But disclaimer if you haven’t read book 1 of the series there is definitely spoilers in this one. This tells the tale from the Prince of Chaos POV. There’s political intrigue, romance, amazing characters with fantastic realms that in constant conflict and tons of twists and turns. Well written fantasy that keeps you wanting more! Can’t wait to see where book three leads us in this Epic fantasy!
