‘Mark of Amara’ is one of those rare stories that pulls you straight into the deep end from the very first chapter and refuses to let go. No time is wasted in revealing the nature of Amara’s relationship, and the way this is handled is both honest and respectful. Before diving in, the author strongly encourages readers to check the trigger warnings — a clear sign that EJ Whitehead genuinely prioritises reader wellbeing and mental preparedness when dealing with sensitive and emotional subject matter.
Amara’s character growth is the beating heart of this novel. Watching her transformation unfold is powerful, emotional, and at times raw, making her journey resonate long after you’ve put the book down. The story is packed with emotion, tension, and mystery, creating an addictive reading experience that makes it incredibly difficult to step away. Dark romance lovers — this one is absolutely for you.
One of the standout strengths is the authors attention to detail in the multiple points of view. Mark of Amara by EJ Whitehead is one of those books that grabs you quietly and refuses to let go. The tagline — “Survival is just the beginning” — couldn’t be more fitting. It’s not just a story about staying alive, but about what comes after, when you have to rebuild who you are and overcome struggles that you wish you didn't have to.

UNIMAGINABLY FANTASTIC
I cannot put into enough words how much I loved this book. I got it as an arc, my first, so I was bouncing off the walls when I got the email. It met and exceeded every hope I had for it. The spice, the plot twists, the sadness, everything about this book was amazing.
My friends have seen me shout at my Kindle in more emotions and more times than all other situations combined.
This book wreaked me and had me kicking my feet giggling all at the same time. I laughed, cried, smiled throughout the whole thing.
The only thing I don't like is that the sequel isn't out already.
This book is definitely a must read for all of us dark romance lovers.

Book took a turn I did not expect (and I normally see twists a mile off!!). Characters were well developed, especially loved how quickly I hated the villains and the author is clearly a cat owner as Lilith is perfectly captured. Could not stop reading, devoured it in two days and am now desperate for the sequel.

Absolutely amazing! This book had me hooked from the start to the very last page! I didn't read the blurb, I wanted to go into this book blind, and it was so much more than I could have hoped for! Every one of the characters were so well written, the villians are spot on. They are not just bad guys, they are horrifically vile and just the worst people imaginable. The FMC is so likeable (which is unusual for me to say), and good god Caleb, well, Caleb is perfection. Roll on book 2! That was quite the cliffhanger!

this is a dark romance book and it had me gripped from the start! It was so good that i couldn't put it down! it was so well written that I instantly fell in love and hate with the characters! the emotions that Amara made me feel made feel like i was roght there with her, There were parts that made me laugh and cry, and I can not wait to read the next one!

I read this as an ARC. And I did not read the blurb or the TWs. I solely went by the cover.
This book was one heck of a wild ride! I loved every dark and twisted minute of it. This book was amazing. I loved Amara and the rest of the characters. Everything was well written. The characters and the story itself. It was so descriptive. It was like watching a movie in my mind. There wasn’t anything about this I didn’t love. I am a huge fan of stalker romance though lol. The darker the better and this was dark.

I’ll be honest — I wasn’t sure at first. The beginning had me questioning where it was going - but somewhere around the halfway mark, boom — I was hooked. The FMC completely won me over, and watching her development through all the chaos and darkness was so worth it. Every chapter had another twist i didn't see coming, and by the end, i was holding my breath.
This isn't your soft, fluffy romance. It's dark, like DARK dark. Full of heavy themes, twisted emotions, power plays, pain and passion all tangled together.
⚠️ Definitely check the trigger warnings before you dive in - this one doesn't hold back. But if you love revenge, emotional wreckage and smut and spice this one's for you.
It’s the first in a duology, and that cliffhanger ending… brutal in the best way. I’ll 100% be picking up the next one to see how Amara’s story ends.

Written in such a way that her emotions became OUR emotions as time went on, discovering each twist and turn made my head spin! EJ Whitehead wrote in some amazing chemistry between the protagonist and the love interest, I won't say more because you need to read it to really feel it!
The only thing I will say, is I need book two as soon as possible, because that ending was some cruelty! Cannot wait for the next installment of this story!

A fantastic start to a dark romance series that has me gripped. Amaras journey is a highly emotive rollercoaster ranging from rage and loathing to fear and apprehension and everything inbetween.
You will cry in despair and laugh out loud, and fall in love. The plot twists, I had me second guessing myself and the cliffhanger at the end of book 1 had me shaking in anticipation for what would happen next.
My only criticism is I have to wait (very impatiently) for book 2!

Loved this so much cannot wait to see what happens in the sequel as Amara is really coming out of her shell now.
