I absolutely love historical fiction and have a partner interest in the Arthurian genre, so this looked right up my street. I also love novels set in Wales as i have many lovely memories from great summer holidays there over the years.
So what we have here is a fantastical, mythical, magical story with a brilliantly varied cast of characters, each and every one with great sense of believability. Couple that with a great atmospheric feel and the results are a true page turner.
5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 's from me.

This was my first read by G.J. Williams but it won’t be my last. I really enjoyed this medieval murder mystery. The main detective (or crowner) being a 780 year old Knight of King Arthur haunted and cursed by the wizard Merlin brought a whole new level to the story elevating it from just being another murder mystery.
Whilst the main character has a significant selfish reason to solve the murder of Enid a young nun, his compassion for the deceased and the other nuns was clear, he wasn’t going to let anything get in his way. This story was full of betrayal, lies, misdirection, plots against the king and characters that will infuriate you to hatred!
On top of the murder mystery were the added tales of the realm and Gawains history, full of tortured pasts and regrets. I thought this was a really unique way to bring the life of one of the knights it King Arthur and the wizard Merlin to life. Merlin is not someone I would want to be indebted to.
Overall a fantastic murder mystery, with a huge list of suspects, a sorcerer who does not aid the investigation and a determined nun adamant to hide the truth, a hindrance at every turn!

A medieval murder mystery featuring Gawain, a 780 year old knight of King Arthur cursed by Merlin to live until he pays for betrayal. A wonderful character, strong, smart, and compassionate as he tries to solve the mystery and pay for his sins. I loved the setting and the descriptions and could almost smell the sage. I can’t wait to see if the author continues this series.
