When Christmas promises shatter and danger strikes, can faith survive the storm?
Christmas is supposed to be magical. For Air One Rescue's Moose Mulligan, it's turning into a disaster. His newly adopted daughter Hazel wants one thing for Christmas—a Siberian Husky puppy. But three weeks of searching has turned up nothing, and Moose's promises are looking more hollow by the day. His wife Tillie is hiding something that has her glowing one moment and pale the next. And his rescue team is fracturing as longtime pilot Shep considers leaving Alaska with the woman he loves.
When a Christmas Eve blizzard swallows pilot Winter Starr somewhere in the wilderness and a dangerous fugitive surfaces in Anchorage, Moose's failing Christmas transforms into a life-or-death mission that will test everything he believes about faith, family, and keeping promises.
Four hearts. One storm. No guarantees.
Meanwhile, in the chaos…Detective Dawson confronts pure evil when a child trafficker takes an innocent hostage. Flynn's world shatters as the man she loves vanishes into the merciless storm. Axel clutches an engagement ring and a prayer, fighting to survive long enough to propose. And Tillie guards a life-changing secret…
In Alaska's deadliest blizzard, love isn't about avoiding the storm—it's about refusing to face it alone.

The explosive fifth installment in the beloved Alaska Air One Rescue series. While perfect as a standalone, One Last Storm delivers satisfying conclusions for cherished characters and ignites new relationships that will leave you desperate for more.
I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.
I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.
I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.
I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. “Sometimes the storm isn’t trying to destroy you. Sometimes it’s trying to clear away everything that doesn’t belong so you can see what does.”
I was so excited to read this Christmas novella, the fifth installment of the Alaska Air One Rescue series.
✔️I love books set in Alaska, not only for the amazing background, but for the possibilities of wilderness adventure ✔️I enjoy reading Christian romantic suspense, especially the second-chance romance that Warren is known for ✔️I thrive on the bookish drama of heroic rescues and heart-stopping action ✔️I appreciate reminders about the need to continue developing rock-solid faith ✔️and I was looking for an update on my favourite bookish family.
This novella focuses on love and how it makes people do extraordinary things.
Warren takes something as exciting as Christmas Eve and upends that perceived quietness and excitement with ‘Operation Santa’s Elves’, a daring mission. As if that weren’t enough to get her readers’ hearts pounding, Warren adds a dangerous fugitive and a traumatic E.R. visit. Don’t worry, the magic of Christmas ties the family together and allows for readers’ hearts to resume beating at a normal pace.
My favourite takeaway: the reminder that love means that you don’t have to face the storms alone.
This can be read as a standalone.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
“God doesn’t promise to keep us from the storm, but He promises to bring us through it.”
If you’ve read the whole Alaska Air One Rescue series, this shorter read is a must. Bridging this series with her upcoming one, this book gives us multiple perspectives around Christmas time with our loved characters. With a snowstorm threatening those who travel and keeping some characters separated, the others are involved in a hospital visit and a criminal aspect. It was a short read that does a great job of leading us into her next series. I’m excited to start it! This book isn’t a standalone read - think of it as an extended epilogue and series prequel tied into one. The romance aspects in it is just kisses, intimacy level 1. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
This is the last book in the Alaska Air One series, and boy, have we been taken on a ride! There is so much packed into this one book, and if you’re like me, you have to stop to catch your breath to continue reading. Susan May Warren is a master storyteller, and the way she weaves in past characters and events is nothing short of amazing! This one book had me looking back at other books and refreshing my head around the timelines and characters. How does she keep it all straight? Even though this story was set mainly in another country, not Alaska, we still got to experience its wonders and beauty. I also had fun looking up different castles and mountain ranges in Europe and imagining the secret tunnels and hidden places in each one. This story truly took us on an adventure and taught me things I didn’t know, like about cryptocurrency. I’m so glad I’m not one of her characters because of everything she puts them through. WOW! The action is non-stop and jaw-dropping. The action will leave you feeling you’re right there with each step. This is why I love all of Susan May Warren’s books and will run to purchase them and read them whenever they come out! All of her books offer incredible life lessons about the love of God, woven in a way that feels real and not forced or pushed. True to all of Susie's books, this one is so amazing, and the imagery is out of this world! It kept me reading late into the night! You should genuinely pick it up! WOW WHAT A RIDE!! The author gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ugh I just love all these characters so much. It was so nice being able to go back and get some extra time with the Air One team 🥹🥹🥰
I loved seeing Moose and Tilly, their relationship and how it's grown.
Axel and Flynn too with taking the next step in their relationship ❤️
Shep and London, how much they love each other and are doing something new and scary--together.
And oh my goodness my heart was SHATTERING for Dawson 😭😭😭 I know his story is coming and there's going to be so much greif and trauma for him to work through and it's so sad to read his thoughts in that epilogue. But I'm looking forward to reading his story soon.
Genuinely so much love. I love Susie May and all her characters. I need a man written by her. Please, God. 😭❤️
This novella has many characters from previous Air One Rescue books, and it continues a few different storylines from the series. Even so, it doesn't feel overwhelming. It's fun to see where life has taken each of the characters, and of course, true to SMW books, it is filled with action, suspense, and romance. And I love that it seems to set up SMW's newest series coming out next year. Looking forward to that one! I've already pre-ordered the 1st book.
Thank you so much to Susan May Warren for giving a free copy of this ebook to her newsletter readers! I enjoyed it!
“Into our storm, God sent Himself. The light. The whisper that could calm the storm.”
We get to catch up with most of the Alaska Air One Rescue family, bouncing from Moose to Tillie to Shep to Alex to Flynn and beyond. And we do so over the course of one insane blizzard 2 days before Christmas. We follow a chunk of the crew as they embark on a rescue flight that turns into delivering supplies and gifts and most importantly medicine by sled. And, of course, there’s relationship trials to overcome, as well.
This was a fun chance to catch up with a cast of characters I very much enjoyed. As always with Susie’s work, the faith element was lovely, especially when it came to the things she had to say about Christmas.
Some of my favorite quotes are included below!
“God doesn’t promise to keep us from the storm, but He promises to bring us through it.” Through it. Not around it, not away from it. Through.”
“Sometimes the storm isn’t trying to destroy you. Sometimes it’s trying to clear away everything that doesn’t belong so you can see what does.”
“Saying goodbye is hard. But choosing you? That’s the easiest decision I’ve ever made.”
“Love made people do extraordinary things, rearrange their entire lives, choose hope over certainty.”
“Crisis stripped away everything nonessential, leaving only what truly mattered. Family. Love. Faith. The knowledge that even in the darkest storms, you weren’t walking alone.”
“The kind of day that made you believe in new beginnings and second chances. The kind of day that whispered promises about hope and healing and the faithfulness of a God who never abandoned His children in the darkness. Into our stormy world, He sent a great light.”
A great conclusion to Alaska Air One Rescue series! Imagine your first Christmas with your young adopted daughter and you can't find the one thing she has asked for! Moose Mulligan hasn't been able to find the Siberian Husky puppy that Hazel is sure Santa will bring! When a friend's plane goes missing, naturally Moose Alaska Air One Rescue goes searching for her. Meanwhile Moose's wife ends up in the hospital with her secret gift--pregnancy. Axel has an engagement ring in the pocket of his Air One jumpsuit. Now he needs to get the courage to propose! How can Moose find a puppy when he's out on a rescue? You won't want to miss this dangerous Christmas Eve with your old favorites from Air One! I loved this ending with our Alaska Air One friends and recommend it to anyone who has read the earlier books. I received a complimentary e-book from Susan May Warren and SDG Publications. This is my honest opinion.
Moose Mulligan is preparing to spend Christmas with his family and the Air One Rescue members until a blizzard hits, downing the plane of a friend. After rescuing the pilot, the team is now fighting the weather, trying to get back home for the holiday.
One Last Storm is an Alaska Air One Rescue novella by Susan May Warren. Each chapter is told from the viewpoint of a different person. It was great to learn more about Moose and Tillie, Shep and London, Axel and Flynn, and Dawson, whose story begins the author's new series coming in January.
I received a free Kindle copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.
One Last Storm is the fifth book in Susan May Warren's Alaska Air One Rescue series. While it's often best to read the previous books in a series, this novella is easily read as a standalone. I must admit, though, I'm thinking I need to go back and read the other books now! The story has several serious situations happening that keep the reader's interest high, wondering how the characters will weather through. There is lots of edge-of-the-seat action with a bitter winter storm and a missing plane. Readers who enjoy suspense and mystery will want to read this story. I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a positive review.
Great to catchup with Alaska Air One Rescue (in the real-world Alaska is having a storm which is affecting locals and tourists) getting ready for the holidays with Christmas being close. Different team members going to leave the area, a dog that needs an owner, a bad guy who has been around a while, hard to pin down. Life changes fairly normal as we age. (Glad the see one character is going to be in a new book in 2026.)
Not sure what caused Goodreads website to be offline a few days but glad to be able to put in a comment on Susie's novella.
This was an amazing if sad ending to the series. I’m sure the characters will appear in other books by Susan May Warren. but every good series has to end sometime. There are so many twists and turns but one constancy was the love of God and the characters dependency on Him. It has been great going on the journey each character has taken seeing how despite their differences they pull together and have each other’s backs. I was gifted a copy of this book by the author but these thoughts are my own.
I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Moose Mulligan, Alaskan search and rescue helicopter pilot wants Christmas to be special for his young daughter and his wife Tilly. She has a surprise for him if she is able to keep it. During a blizzard, Moose has to fly into the storm to find a downed airplane and deliver Christmas presents for children in the small villages, but after he leaves, Tilly has to be taken to the hospital. A touching story about faith, facing trials, and storms.
This novella was PERFECT! I had to read it all in one day because I just couldn't stop!
I loved seeing my Alaska Air One Rescue team again and seeing all of the couples together and thriving as they put their lives on the line to save others. I loved this entire cast of characters so I was jumping for joy when this book was announced and released!
Susan does an amazing job weaving this story together with so many characters' points of view. I wish she did this with every series of hers! I don't want to give away any part of this book so just go read it yourself because it's soooo good!
This was a quick read but definitely set the stage for the next book/new series...I just know Dawson's story and the intro to the next series, Call of the Wild, is going to be so good after reading this little novella. It was nice to catch up with the team and see how they were doing! Love seeing all the couples happily together ... Can't wait for Dawson's and loyal Caspian's story in
This story revolves around the Alaska Air One Rescue team and their family members in Alaska a couple of days before Christmas. Each chapter is about a different team member, but they all tie together. So well written. Caspian, the dog, is as much of a main character as the people. Love a story with a good dog!
Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors. She should definitely be on your TBR list continually.
WOW!! I really loved this book. Susan May Warren's One Last Storm brought the whole team together, along with a brewing storm, metaphorically and emotionally. This book reminded me of a future that could shine bright, a future with joy, love and hope. It's a reminder that there is HOPE in a darkening world. There IS JOY that can be found in His PEACE. I loved this book as it reminded me of His love given freely. His direction is given freely because He wants the best of our lives to be lived each and every day. This book is a reminder that God's got it in His control. This was exemplified in each of their lives days before Christmas ... I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for Susan May Warren's exceptional skill of telling simply heartfelt and suspense-filled stories!!
One Last Storm is a fun visit with old friends. I loved catching up with the Air One Rescue team, watching them do what they do best. Of course, they have to run into some snags, but they work together to resolve their problems. There are some fun celebrations, and a segue into the next series. Can’t wait for another new adventure!
One Last Storm is about the Alaska Air One team members who embark on a rescue mission during a blizzard a few days before Christmas. Each chapter is told by a different viewpoint from the characters but ties together, leading into Warren's next series. This novella includes danger, suspense, and romance.
Wow! This book is such a fantastic and thrilling conclusion to the Alaska Air One Rescue. The reader gets a peek into the lives of each member of the team. They experience great danger as they try to make a rescue and return home during a blizzard. Meanwhile those left behind are facing trials of their own. I highly recommend this book!
Packed with action, chilling landscape, approaching storm and Christmas ahead, One Last Storm bridges two fantastic series. Grab a hot drink and spend an afternoon or evening with the Air INE team as they navigate adversity, family, friends and faith.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
This was sooo good! I loved visiting with the characters again, completing more of their story, and seeing where future books might go! I read this in 1 day!! Worth your time for sure if you love a Susie May Warrwn series.
This is a short quick book. It was well written. It was full of drama, but is a happily ever after story. I would have liked to have read the previous books first to know the backstory of all the characters.
Susan May is always a good read when you are looking for romantic suspense. In this series, she gives you a look at the harsh Alaskan weather. This is a quick read that you will devour in one evening. The story is wrapped around Christmas, so you also get your holiday fix.
Want some Alaskan suspense with you Christmas? This book has it all. Great setting. Wonderful characters. Dogs. Kids. Suspense in Alaskan blizzard. So I hope you will read this entire series. And looking forward to the next !
This is the perfect ending to an awesome series. However, I was sad to read that some of them would be moving away from the others. I am excited to see where they pop up in upcoming books. Would 100% recommend reading this to close out the Alaskan Air One Rescue series.
Everything I was hoping for in this fast-paced return to the Alaska Air One crew. Checking in with everyone was so fun and the running storyline leading into Call of the Wild has me so excited for what’s next in Susan May Warren’s story world.
One Last Storm - a great conclusion to the Alaska Air One Rescue series, and introduction to Susan May Warren’s next series. Call of the Wild. There is plenty of suspense and emotion, a heartwarming read about family, friendship, and reaching for what’s important.
Are you ever really done with a series that you are truly invested in? I know I am not. However, this book is a nice bookend to the series. There is a promise of life updates on them as SMW does a great job of linking the characters.
It was so great to revisit the characters I love from the Alaska Air One Rescue series in this novella set during a blizzard at Christmas. It was an amazing and touching ending - and a wonderful setup to a new series. Susan May Warren writes the best faith-based romantic suspense novels!
