Holidays & Heartstrings

When the snow falls, hearts begin to thaw...

Quinton MacKelvie never really knew his grandmother, but the sprawling colonial house she left him in Grafton, Vermont might be just the fresh start he and his five-year-old daughter need. Swapping city chaos for small-town charm, he hopes to build a quieter life—one where he can breathe again, and raise his little girl in peace.

Celeste Black isn’t exactly thrilled to be back in the town she once ran from. But with her father’s dementia worsening, she’s left her art—and her pride—behind to care for the man who barely remembers her. The last thing she needs is a too-perfect new neighbor who seems to have it all figured out. They clash from the moment they meet—Quinton with his steady calm, Celeste with her creative chaos.

She’s in over her head and help has a funny way of showing up wearing steel cap boots, flannel and a permanent scowl.

But as Christmas approaches, snowflakes aren’t the only things falling. Between tangled holiday lights, awkward run-ins, and the quiet understanding that comes from shared loneliness, something unexpected begins to bloom.

Maybe the place you’re meant to be isn’t just a house. Maybe it’s a person.

This was so cute. I have so much love for Quinton, Celeste and Maisey. Their story is the perfect Christmas feels and a great palate cleanser. The chemistry was good and it was well written.

What an emotional and fun holiday read. Celeste moves back home to take care of her father and meets the new neighbor, Quinton and his daughter, Maisey. Celeste and Quinton get off on the wrong foot but Maisey becomes her little bff. Over time, Celeste and Quinton grow closer and can no longer fight their attraction. They learn to accept love and support from each other. Maisey is so much fun.

Y’all know me, if you say it’s a single parent romance then I am seated with my kindle, hot tea, and blanket. Sadly this wasn’t my favorite. I couldn’t pinpoint what was missing but it was definitely missing something, for me.

Why did the five year old talk like a 47 year old divorcee? She was really cute at first then she started talking in a way no 5 year old talks and it took me out.

Such a sweet story about love, loss and also the pain of becoming your parents parent. Maisie was adorable and I loved how Celeste never quite seemed to believe she had things under control, because truly in life when do we ever really have things under control?

Loved how Quinn never backed off and never stopped being her constant and showing her the love she deserved.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This Christmas romance holds all the things you love about holiday novels, while bringing a level of emotion that most don’t include. Wanting to keep holiday reads lighthearted and romantic, Alexandra Banks does this, while creating characters who draw you in with their personal hardships. Beautifully done, I became invested with each character's personal journey and their journey towards each other.

CC is taking care of her father, who suffers from dementia. She is full of heart, resilience, and determination; but is also tired and alone. If you have ever cared for or known anyone with dementia, it is easy to understand why CC feels the way she does. When you take all her stress from caring for her father and add on a grumpy neighbor, she reaches the end of her rope. What starts out as regular neighborly quarrels soon turns into civil conversation thanks to her neighbor’s daughter playing mediator.

Quinton is wanting to start over with his daughter, Maisie. He doesn’t immediately like his neighbor but as they get to know each other, feelings develop, and Quinton finds himself wanting to make life easier for CC. Maisie is a huge part of this story and steals the show more than once. She is sassy, confident, and outspoken. Watching her and CC become closer is beyond sweet and drives the story so well.

Alexandra brings in the emotion with CC’s journey of caring for her father, realizing her own worth, and understanding that dreams need to be based on what you want, not what you think others want. Also with Quinton and wanting to start over and provide the best life he can for his daughter. More than once I teared up, but frequently found myself smiling and truly feeling for these characters. A must read for your holiday TBR.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

This small-town Christmas romance has everything: emotion, charm, humour, and that festive sparkle that makes you want to read it in one cosy sitting. It’s the kind of story that wraps around you like a warm blanket, hands you a hot chocolate (and a candy apple 😉), and pulls you straight into the heart of the holidays.

At the centre of it all is CC a strong, resilient, talented young woman caring for her father as he navigates dementia. She is impossible not to love. Her strength, her compassion, her determination to hold everything together even when it feels like it’s all falling apart… she adds a beautiful emotional depth that grounds the story. You feel her heart, her worries, her hope and you root for her with every page.

Then you get the perfect slowburn dislike-to-love between CC and her neighbour Quinton. The way they keep ending up in each other’s orbit? Flawless. Their banter, their tension, those unexpected little moments that shift everything it’s slowburn heaven, and Alexandra Banks writes it so naturally you barely notice you’re falling right alongside them.

And Quinnie… welcome to your next book boyfriend. He’s steady, sweet, quietly swoony, and full of heart. But the real scene-stealer? His daughter Maisey. Smart, sassy, hilarious, bursting with personality she brings so much joy to the story and ties everything together in the most heart-melting way.

I devoured this book in under 24 hours because putting it down wasn’t even an option. The pacing, the emotional layers, the cosy small-town charm, the festive vibes it all comes together in that signature Alexandra Banks magic that keeps you up way past your bedtime.

If you’re searching for your next Christmas read one that’s warm, heartfelt, enchanting, and impossible to forget this is it.
Add it to your holiday stack immediately. You’ll be smiling long after you turn the final page.

Family, devotion and starting anew are important themes throughout this entertaining, rather emotional and thoroughly engaging book. Quinton has just moved to the small town of Grafton after inheriting a home from the grandmother he barely knew. He hopes the move will give him and his five-year-old daughter, Maisie, a fresh start and more stability. Celeste has returned home after years away pursuing a career in the art world. Her father has dementia and needs more care and her siblings have decided that since she doesn’t have a proper career, she is the one who will be looking after their father. Not being as talented as her artist mother was before her early death has been a hit to Celeste’s pride and self-worth. She couldn’t wait to escape this town and now she’s back for a reason that tears at her heart.

Quinton and Celeste squabble and bark at each other during their first few encounters, but little Maisie becomes a buffer between them and a reason to try to get along. Maisie maybe five years old, but she is also sassy, outspoken and confident that her plan to bring the two adult adults together is going to work. She certainly melts hearts and steals the scenes away from Quinton and Celeste. At first, Celeste thinks Quinton is rude and abrasive, but he soon proves himself to be an invaluable neighbour and friend, showing up just when she needs him and offering her encouragement in the face of her father’s increasing deterioration. Neither expected their new start to include finding love, at least not so soon. They each have found the person who sees them for who they truly are, flaws and all, an loves them unconditionally.

This wonderful book has my heartfelt recommendation.

Holidays & Heartstrings is a single-dad, enemies to lovers, spicy, small town, Christmas romance. It is the first in the Winter Wonderland series by Alexandra Banks.

Celeste Black returns home to Grafton Vermont to care for her ailing father, despite hating Christmas due to past losses. She comes across her new neighbour, Quinton MacKelvie, a single-dad who recently inherited his grandmother’s house and is seeking a fresh start away from the city with his five-year-old daughter, Maisey.

Initially the two clash – however when circumstances (and a sassy but sweet daughter) pushes them together, they let down their emotional walls and sparks fly leading them to discover an unexpected connection and a love, one could only wish for.

The banter between Celeste and Quinton was at times really funny. Over time you can see they both have a real connection, and I felt it was a natural development of their connection and feelings. They were both supportive of each other and that helped them both overcome their past traumas/issues.

The connection between Celeste and Maisey was so beautiful. Celeste, right from the start was kind and gave Maisey the time she needed. Their relationship was beautiful to watch develop.

There is an emotional side to this book. I really felt for Celeste with her father’s health. It made me teary on a few occasions. I understand this part and can understand the feelings that were expressed when dealing with his illness.

Overall, this was a really good read. I highly recommend reading this book (and all of Alexandra’s other books).

Thank you to Alexandra for allowing me access to this ARC.

This was a cute and emotional small town winter romance ❄️ 3.5⭐️

The connection between the characters was lovely. They are both going through a rough spot right now and end up finding a safe space in each other's company. Once they started chatting and got past the miscommunication at the start, they began to grow on me. I can't imagine going through what CC did and in the end I feel like she did what was right for her dad and herself. You can't always bear that burden alone. Quinton's relationship with his daughter is so cute! He took girl dad to a whole new level and it made me so sad to hear that her mum just didn't want anything to do with her. Maisie was more than content with her dad and had everything she could ever need. The whole story was heartwarming and a little emotional at points, but all in all a lovely winter read.

This is where it fell a little flat for me. Maisie was absolutely adorable and had such a sassy little attitude, but I felt like she was portrayed as a lot older than she was which felt a little off for me. Also, I appreciate that there was a bit of an 'enemies to lovers' vibe at the start, but it all seemed a bit too much and not enough at the same time. The spice also wasn't hitting it compared to previous books. I think it was the fact that CC could never finish a sentence or Quinn's name. No disrespect to Quinnie, but come on 👀

As mentioned previously, I did enjoy the book overall, but I don't think i'll be rushing back to it.

Thank you so much to the author for the e-arc. All opinions are my own.

If you’ve been here with me for a while, you already know my entire heart belongs to everything Alexandra Banks writes and she once again has absolutely wrecked me in the most beautiful way imaginable. The emotional turmoil and devastation Celeste carries, the breathtaking love and connection between the characters… it hits you in every possible way. Alexandra rips you apart on one page and then lovingly pieces you back together on the next.

And my gawd!!! DADDY QUINTAN MACKELVIE. Sir… you are the Christmas gift that just keeps on giving. This man…lawd have mercy…he is the sweetest, most tender hearted human but deliciously filthy all in one. The quotes I have highlighted in this book…👀 How does someone write lines like that and expect me to survive?

And Maisie… this sweet, hilarious and beautiful 5 year old angel. “I promise I won’t forget you, CC.” 🥹 Ugh, my heart couldn’t take it.

A beautiful, festive, emotional holiday story that grabs your heart with both hands and refuses to let go long even after you’ve read the last page.

What a way to finish my birthday!
This story has so many different elements to it, and Hank hits so close to home. Dementia runs in my family. It’s scary. It’s hard. But all you can do is love them. Fight for them to get the care they need and know that even though they may not remember you, you can still show them the love they deserve!

Now as far as CC and Quinnie go. Ummm ok Me. Santa hat I see you. Dirty dirty man 😂

CC doesn’t know how strong she is till Quinton and Maisey show her. And they show her what true love looks like. Not fake, abandoned, drifted love. Losing someone important to her at such a young age didn’t give her a good outlook.

Quinton and Maisey are two peas in a pod. This dad-daughter duo are a hoot and loads of fun. The love Quinton gives his kid is the love every kid deserves. He fights for her every minute of every day. No matter what. Everyone deserves a dad like him.

This sweet and spicy holiday romance was a great read. Alexandra Banks has a talent for creating characters that make you feel something. CC is so resilient and determined to help with her father's dementia. But, at the end of the day, she feels tired and alone. Add in her new grumpy single dad neighbor and his feisty daughter Maisie and she's officially at the end of her fraying, tangled rope. I loved how she interacted with Quinton's daughter Maisie. Once I got to read more about Quinton, the man just exuded green flag energy. Quinton just wanted his daughter to have a good childhood. So, when Maisie started hanging out with CC, at first he was skeptical but as he got to know CC and her dad, I fell in love with them all. Plus, is there anything better than an enemy to friends to lovers trope? Hot 🔥 🥵 This book makes you feel so much for them all. If you want a read that will truly pull on your heartstrings that's also spicy, then this book is for you.

I’m so glad I started my festive reads with Holidays & Heartstrings, I absolutely devoured this book in less than 24hrs, just couldn’t put it down.

What a fun, sweet, spicy, heart tugging story! This book definitely brings all the Christmas feels.

When Celeste moves back into her childhood home to care for her father she never anticipated the grumpy, yet hot guy that’s just moved in next door, especially didn’t expect to befriend his 5 year old daughter Maise, but with her genius Witt and sassiness how could she resist! Quinton, what a guy!! (Can he please come and be my neighbour)!!

This book has everything from banter, spice, friendship and even heartbreak, the perfect Christmas story. I can’t wait for more from the Winter Wonderland Series.
Alexandra absolutely smashed it once again.

Holidays & Heartstrings is a warm, emotional Christmas romance that blends fresh starts with complicated family dynamics.

Celeste’s return to Grafton to care for her father and Quinton’s move to rebuild a life for himself and little Maisie set the stage for a story that feels both heartfelt and relatable. Their prickly first encounters add a fun spark and Maisie’s confidence and charm bring an extra layer of sweetness that makes the story shine.

As the tension between Celeste and Quinton softens, their connection grows in a way that feels natural and well earned. The mix of humour, healing and budding romance - along with the touching moments surrounding Celeste’s father - creates an engaging read with real emotional depth. It’s a lovely smalltown holiday story that balances heartache, hope and a hint of spice, making it an easy book to recommend.

🎄 Single dad
🎄Christmas romance
🎄Small town

This was such a perfect Christmas read; it was emotional but also heartwarming. Celeste returns home after being away for years because her father’s health is getting worse and he needs help. Quinton is her new next-door neighbor along with his 5-year-old Masie. They didn’t have a good first meet or second or even third, but little miss Masie is just adorable and decides that Celeste is going to be her BBF and her dad will kiss her. I loved seeing how Quinton was there for Celeste because she felt she had to do it all alone. Alexandra did an amazing job with this book, great story, amazing characters.

Thank you, Alexandra, for this ARC. These are my honest thoughts.

I’m going to start calling Alex a candy cane because every book of hers, she just hooks me in from the start! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to ARC read this.

Holidays and Heartstrings is a snow dusted heartfelt romance that has all the perfect ingredients plus with a dusting of emotional depth that only Alex could bring.

But what I loved the most was that this is more than a holiday romance, it is a book about finding home—not just in a place, but in a person who sees you, understands you, and holds space for your broken pieces.

If you’re looking for a story that blends heartfelt healing, slow-burn attraction, and the soft glow of holiday hope, this one is absolutely worth curling up with.

Ps Maisy, Quinton’s young daughter, is her own little mini candy cane 💕

I literally have nothing. This was an amazing read. Had I not needed to be an adult and work or sleep I would have devoured this in one day. Alexandra has AGAIN knocked it out of the park with this and true to its name, it will pluck at the heartstrings.

CC was beautifully written and portrayed, even her flaws added to her character. And let’s be honest, Quin was just absolutely brilliant and dreamy. It’s always interesting to see the perspective of a single father as a single mother myself but the way the struggle and fear and rawness of parenthood was represented hit so deep.

I loved CC and Quin’s storyline and can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next!

This book was definitely a fun and easy read, but also extremely emotional at the same time. But I loved every minute of it.

The story starts with Celeste moving back home to care for her dad who has Alzheimer's. There, she meets the new neighbour Quinton and his 5 year old daughter. Celeste and Quinton dont get off to the best start, but with the help of his daughter, who decides Celeste is going to be her BFF, they get close and the sparks fly.

I absolutely loved Celeste's sassy side and Quinton is definitely one swoon worthy MMC with his charming, caring nature. The pair balanced each other out perfectly.

Honestly, the perfect holiday read. There was Christmas spirit, romance, and fun banter. There was also struggles and pain. It all came together to create a beautiful Christmas story. I loved Quinton and Celeste, but also Maisey. They were the perfect balance for each other, and supported each other no matter what. I do feel like the ending came a bit fast, but the multiple epilogues helped take care of that! I love everything that Alexandra writes. She has such an amazing ability to tell a story.

Very cute small town holiday read!

I am a sucker for a single dad romance, and Quinton brought everything in this story. Quinton, Maise and Celeste were the cutest little family. I absolutely loved that Quinton and Celeste connected so fast (after their little tiff) and were always there for one another.

Very halmark coded! In the best way.
Don't read this unless you want a good sob though, my eyes were red and puffy from the amount of crying I did reading this book. Celeste and Hank completely shattered my heart. Quinton slowly peiced it back together again and Maisie reannimated it with her brightness. A really touching story where two people living two different struggles come together discovering they each have exactly what the other didn't even realise they needed.

What happens when two strangers move to a small town, magic happens!

Celeste returned home to care for her father with dementia, while Quinton had moved to this small town to provide a better life for his daughter, Maise.

This heartwarming story is filled with love, hardship, loyalty, strength, and courage. It’s a delightful blend of love, laughter, and cosy Christmas scenes. Maisie,is a super cute little matchmaker.
I was emotional watching Celeste navigate a difficult time in her life while Quinton stood by her side, offering support.

Witty banter and some spicy scenes makes this a wonderful Christmas read.
