4.5 KICKING BUTT STARS

I have no idea where this jewel was been hiding but other than the usual older book JS punctuation and minor grammar mistakes, I thought this book was AMAZING!

HONESTLY, THIS BOOK WAS FUNNY AND HOT!
The things the heroine Maxie says to the hero Jackson are really funny:
"I sure would like to put my foot up your ass, maybe it'll knock the stick in there off kilter." Ouch!
"Seems like the earl of dip shit was impressed by my technique. Well, la di da."
"Would you like me to show you how refined I am count f*ck-you-la? What the hell is that you're wearing anyways, an ascot?"

As you can see, Maxie has sass to spear!

description

I don't want to give away too much away in my review because I honestly think this book deserves to be read without too many preconceptions.

The heroine Maxie is one of the most incredibly strong kickass female protagonist I have ever read in JS books.
She literally kick her bitchy sisters butts. She goes through a lot of verbal abuse at the hands of her mother and two evil sisters.
This may be the most horrible kind of abuse that there is. Coming from the people that should be on your side.
NO MATTER THE REASON, HER MOTHER WAS JUST WRONG TO TREAT HER DAUGHTER THIS WAY! SERIOUSLY, THAT IS SO WRONG!

description

The hero, who is named Jackson, my feelings towards him are more conflicted. He seemed to be a little condescending, overbearing and arrogant (like his sh*t don't smell type of thing). As the story progresses, my feelings about him changes and by the end, I loved him!
Anyways seeing how he is in the end after years together I know she set him straight.
I FREAKING LOVED THAT!

This has some smut in it but it was a love story. They talk about things and he tries to take over her life but she does not go for that. They have a relationship which includes her career.
Wow shocker right?
I loved it and I wished more of her books would be like this.

A keeper for me and I reread many times already.
First reading June 2016, October 2016 and Feb 2017.

AWESOME!

description

Please note this slight spoiler here and/or potential trigger. She has always wanted him and he just wanted to silence her protests pushing her to admit her feelings.

Safety: no cheating heroine is a virgin and hero is experienced, some light OW/OM drama one from her sister and former friend of the heroine and also the stalker who is after the heroine as well.

I so detest it when the mcs speak like teenagers.
Maybe it's my years but still...
'Suck it fuckwit'
'Eat shit and die creep'
...??!!

This is a Mary sue from the other end.
A 20 yo kickass potty mouthed h who only abuses back (really?) her skanky sisters. Drusilla queen of slut and skank of hades were some of the nicer things she has to say for them. I just couldn't hate the sisters enough to be on her side or vice versa.
And she is a reclusive (already?) musical virtuoso who brags about 'earning 10 millions per year'.
Also rides/repairs bikes and has a go-to gang of loyal guys.
Oh and she's unattractive but men do like her and her bubble butt!!
She cries in her room when her mom pinches her and tells her to behave. So she can give it but not take it! Poor dear!

Enough to send you off Kicking and Screaming.
And don't get me started on the H!

I read this author for mindless fun, but this has to be one of my least favorite EVER. I know I’m not going to get a masterpiece, but I do expect some development… and for the characters (specifically the h) to be more mature than a tween.

I had several issues…

🔴 Maxie was insufferable. I assume the title (kicking and screaming) was inspired by the h’s behavior because from the beginning she was aggressive, combative, prickly, immature, disrespectful, etc. I HATE when I’m told how tough someone is but only shown how bratty and childish they are. I’m going to put my foot up your ass. --- Suck it Fuckwit --- Eat shit and die and other gems on repeat. OVER and OVER again. Basically, she’s annoying AF.

🔴 The narrative is flipped so many times, trying to rewrite what we’d already been told. This will have spoilers. It’s manipulated to the extreme.

🔴 The plot is so freaking boring. For the first 65% the only thing that happens other than a mean sister or OW sporadically grabbing a few pages is Maxie being immature and bitchy and Jackson having the patience of a saint. That’s it, because although she acts so badass, she’s a total wimpy prude when it comes to smut. ZZZzzzz.

🔴 The typical grammar/editing issues.

Bottom Line- This one was a miss for me. Maxie drove me crazy for the first ¾ of the book. She eventually improves, but it takes FOREVER, and there isn’t enough drama-llama to offset her. There’re plenty of wannabe OW around that could’ve caused problems, but they were given very little page time. It was disappointing.

I couldn't remember this book and wondered why I gave it 3 stars, but I really liked the blurb so I wanted to read it again to see if maybe my rating would change. Maxie was a brat and a little annoying and Jackson was kind of an ass. Neither MCs would be considered my favorites of Jordan Silver, but still an entertaining read.

This was ok. It’s one of her bratty heroine books. I was a little bored. Her OTT cartoonish antics made it difficult for me to get invested. The hero was a good guy and his goodness unfortunately made this a little bland. Overall it was adequately entertaining if you can ignore JS’s quirks.

How does this have such good reviews??? I don't understand what am I missing...

This is the first book I've read by Jordan Silver and I got to say I hated this book. To be fair it starts out pretty good and the BAM!! Everyone is crazy. The heroine who was strong at the beginning of the book is now a doormat who does what she's told by a guy she's known less then a week. The hero was a nice guy at the beginning and then all of a sudden he was very demanding and controlling. He pretty much rapes her in her sleep but it's ok because he slipped a ring on her finger before he did anything. Really?? WTH!!?! If she was the same person she was at the beginning of the book she would not have been ok with that especially considering he was just accused of doing that to someone else. I don't understand how the reviews are good for this book it was literally like reading 2 halves of 2 very different books. I will not be reading this again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

From the moment Jackson Collins met Maxie Dove he knew she had a chip on her shoulder about him. Maxie is volatile, snarky, and seems to get a kick out of ruffling feathers. Jackson just wants his close friend to be happily married and while his bride to be is an angel, her family is interesting at best. However like a moth to a flame Jackson decides Maxie is meant to be his. However Maxie is not completely on board with the plan but a few well placed kisses seems to keep Maxie tamed at least for a few minutes. With a plan in place, Jackson goes about claiming Maxie his.

This was a fun take on Pride and Prejudice, not sure if that was intent but it is very similar with the families. Maxie is holding a grudge, based on what someone said, with Jackson but as she gets to know him she is realizing she may not know the truth. Another good read from Jordan Silver.

I had a number of issues with this book.

If you you like run-on sentences, lots of commas, unusual placement of semi-colons, and unusual word choices, then this is the book for you! These happen on EVERY page. Also, these people are from the US but are written like they're from England in the 19th century. I've never met one man in the US who uses the word "splendid." Like ever.

Plot: Maxie and Jackson meet when her sister is due to marry his BFF. Maxie is fiesty, has anger issues towards everyone in her family except her older sister and her father. Maxie already knows who Jackson is before she meets him and she already hates the groom's BFF, the reason comes out eventually. Jackson is fascinated by M the moment he sees her, but he also recognizes that she's in a f'ed up family situation wants to do everything he can to get her out of it. He cajoles her into this weird relationship and takes her home to Texas with him in like a week.

What made this interesting was the number of details woven into the story, the connections between the families and friends and how these are integrated into the story.

This seemed to combine elements of Taming of the Shrew (out of control angry woman, alpha male) and Pride and Prejudice (flighty sisters looking to be married off to wealthy men, overbearing mother, father who's clueless, H is over the top wealthy and wants the only woman who seems to hate him) with some contemporary elements. The story also switches POVs a lot and it's confusing, since the one POV that's missing the most is Maxie's. We knew exactly where Jackson was coming from (whether we like him or not), but we never really understand how M feels about all of this.

This is not a typical romance and Jackson is over-the-top alpha, but in the least romantic way possible. And, they never say I love you and we don't really get a good handle on M's feelings. There's also a scene where he takes her virginity and he really does take it... it was not romantic, but too dominant and bordered on rape, since he does it while she's sleeping. Just Awful.

This could have been so much better.

Fun read. Good for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

The story reminded me of Pride & Prejudice (the raunchier version lol). The scheming mother who favoured her 2 dimwitted shallow daughters rather than Maxie or her eldest sister who was marrying the best friend of Jackson.

So I guess Jackson was Mr Darcy? lol.

I really liked some parts and others I thought were okay. However, I do enjoy reading the type of alpha heroes this author writes about.

The heroine's sister is getting married. Her future brother in-law's friend comes to meet the family. The hero is a known as a rich eligible bachelor. The heroine is not happy about meeting the man that every is swooning over. The heroine's old roommate told her something that made her think that the hero is a not good person. However, the more time each of them spend together...feelings and opinions change.

I do like that Jordan Silver makes the hero's mothers into loving women. Ones that embrace their sons' loves. I did not reading about the heroine and the hero's mother.

Fun story

This was an entertaining read and had much better editing than many of her books. Maxie is an angry little spitfire because of her family. Picture Cinderella and her stepmother and step sisters. She is not kind to Jackson when she meets him, in part because of a misunderstanding which is eventually straightened out. Jackson takes Maxie home with him, realizing she is the one, and spends the rest of the book sorting out her drama, protecting her from anyone and everyone and generally spoiling her to make up for her nasty family. He is a typical Jordan Silver alpha, she's his and he expects her to obey, but really this applies to her safety. Their first time was a bit unorthodox, she was fast asleep when he decided to take her virginity while sliding a ring on her finger. However, Maxie doesn't seem to mind, aside from the initial pain she pretty much jumps on board. I loved the epilogue!

Everyone in the story got on my nerves. Also, the majority of the world would not classify $10 million dollars income a year (or even over multiple years) to be middle class. Started skimming at ~60% because I couldn't stand it anymore and just wanted it to be over. Also very poorly edited which is par for the course with this author. I think I'm going to need to take a break from Ms. Silver, maybe permanently.

Jordan Silver books are a vice of mine. No idea why. Editing is usually poor and they are expensive and almost all tell about the same story. But I like most of them, find them really HOT and think the Heros are the most alpha...

This one is no different. Actually, this one had more story than some.

I have a hangover from reading this book. Not a book hangover though. An I-drank-an-entire-bottle-of-wine hangover.

God god. This book was just…wow.

While I liked (not loved) the feistiness of the heroine, Maxie, she was just too much for me to handle at times. I liked how she defended herself against her traitorous family (her mother & her two sisters), never backing down from a fight. But, c’mon. The things she said and thought was like an eight-year-old eager for a fight.

I liked (not loved) the hero, Jackson, due to his protectiveness of her and knowing how to handle her when she went off the rails at just about anything. But, for someone who was so much older than she was, he also at times would come off childish.

I also felt so lost with the dialogue in this book. One second we were in elementary school, then it felt like a historical romance…I was so confused.

The flow of the book was a big part in me just not gelling with the book like others as. I didn’t’ know who was speaking at times…how paragraphs would just continue into other paragraph with no endings…tons of grammatical errors…

It annoyed me but I forged on because I was very curious to see what all the rave was about.

Needless to say – I’m still sitting here trying to figure it out.

I’m not saying that the story wasn’t good (the premise was likable, albeit a tad bit unrealistic) but I’m just not seeing it.

This was a fun read.
Take a very spunky yet vulnerable Maxie Dove who uses sarcasm and sharp tongue to cover her soft heart. Next add a very rich, handsome and uber Alpha male Jackson Collins sparks will fly!
***Spoiler***
This reminded me abit of a modern day Cinderella Story. Including evil sisters and mother!
The main issue I had was how Jackson took Maxie's virginity. She was asleep! Consent much! In my mind I was thinking. "In what world is that not rape?" So other than that glitch I really enjoyed the rest of the book. I was right there with Maxie through her ups and down with both Jackson and her family. I was thrilled in the end she got the HAE she deserved.
This is the first book I read from this author but I enjoyed it and will be looking into more....Sara

The cover says it all. I did enjoy this book and it actually reminded my a lot of Pride and Prejudice- in the beginning at least.

1) A gentleman is coming and the mom and all the ditzy sisters are rushing to please him.

2) He's here for his best friend who's marrying one of the daughters

3) He's wealthy and she is not (anymore at least)

4) the "supposed properness" the women were to have

However, that is where the similarities end. Nothing else is like anything Jane Austen would write- NOTHING

DNF @ 23%.

Wow, this was a terrible story. The h is an extremely angry, b!%@$y, annoying loud mouth. She is constantly insulting her family and the H. There is no softness to her all. Most of what I read was the h giving the other characters attitude and the H being intrigued by it. Yikes, I hope the author does not write another story like this again. I just convinced myself to give her another chance.

raw, steamy sex. after years of emotional abuse and neglect, a young woman finds love and a white knight. despite being the financial support of her hateful and despicable family they insult her, ridicule her, humiliate her time after time. Re-read June 2017...and there's a stalker too. Re-read in november, 2019.

Jordan Silver's version of the Taming of the Shrew.

Liked it but it was exhausting due to the slow way the heroine was tamed.

Would have given 5 stars had the hero been more over the top. He was a laid back caveman.

Not my favorite book by my absolute favorite author. The heroine Maxie was just too shrewish for me to like her and she just didn't redeem herself for me throughout the book. I almost gave up on this one.

Great story. A lot more involved from the other Jordan Silver books I've read. Would have liked more comeuppance for some of the characters but I still liked how everything turned out. Nice epilogue.

Surprise! It's great!

After reading some of the bad Reviews I put this on the back burner and hadn't read it for over a year. She sounded like a screeching shrew and he was made out to be an abusive rapist.

After reading some really bad books that tried to copy JS, stylistically and rereading all her stories over 3 times each I decided to tackle this one expecting not to finish it. What a surprise. Maxie was a screaming mess in the beginning but with good reason, so it's explained later. Jackson turns out to be the epitome of a true alpha, without the usual abuse some of JS other stories.

This book has turned out to one of my favorite JS books. No gratuitous, nasty sex, just enough needed for the story.

I almost missed it because of some bad reviews. But it was well worth it, after I dived in. Highly recommend it!

I loved this story. I only hated her incubator. And of course the ugly on the inside biological sisters. Here is the other thing, if I was being treated the way her family were treating her I would have moved away. Made them actually have to grow the f@ck up and support themselves. She has the resources. She is famous. They are living of her. Yep they are parasites and she has been supporting them. Because her father is really blind to the abuse that has been thrown at her since birth. It takes her almost beating the two parasitic leeches in her own room no freaking less, to actually really see the abuse they really put her through.
I loved the male lead in this one. Just a very sigh worthy male.
