If you enjoy reading devotionals, this new release by Crossway, Strong in the Lord – A 30-day Devotional on the Armor of God edited by Winfree Brisley, is a powerful biblical read. In the evening I enjoy winding down by reading and this has been a great read, short and impactful.

I enjoy the biblical reminders of what it looks like to put on the armor of God and the provided Scripture reading and applications with each chapter. This book reminds us that when life seems hard, maybe we feel like prayers are not being answered, or something seems difficult, it might not be because we are doing something wrong. The author says, if following Jesus and seeking to grow in Christ feels hard, be encouraged; it is evidence you are putting on Christ-likeness.

This book is great if you are short on time, as you can read it in less than 10 minutes. It will take you through each piece of armor, with additional Scriptures to read, a reflection written by godly women about the Scripture, along with an application/response to the reading, and a prayer.

One of the pieces of reflection asked, “Are you wearing your belt of truth?” This is a great reminder, with so many things in the world fighting against what is true and believing you can make your own truth. That was just one of the many impactful sections in this book I am applying.

As the back cover states, culture encourages me to seek empowerment from within, trusting my accomplishments and abilities will be enough to meet daily demands and carry me through difficult seasons. I'm thankful for God and His Word. I learned a lot in the past 30 days about putting on the armor of God. How to stand strong in the Lord. There were daily thought provoking questions in this in depth study. I'm thankful for my weaknesses that force me to more fully rely on Him:-) I was happy to win a print copy of this book from Goodreads. In the past few months I've gotten closer to God again, praying and doing a daily Bible study. This book arrived at just the right time:-)

In this devotional, I most appreciated the reflections on how the breastplate of righteousness has already been worn and tested by Jesus—and how the original “feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace” were ultimately nailed to the cross. Beyond those couple of insights, I did not find much that was particularly remarkable in this devotional, hence the three stars. Still, it could be helpful for a newer believer who is learning to think about the armor of God and the shape of Christian life.

This is a great devotional on the Armor of God. I used it in my personal devotions, but it could easily be adapted to a group setting.

Solid devotional with good use of scripture and several helpful nuggets / reminders about the life a believer that I really appreciated.

The devo model was straightforward the whole way through: story, scripture application, further (short) scripture reading with a couple of questions, and a prayer. I didn’t read it in 30 days straight, so the repetition didn’t bug me too much.

I would recommend it as a quick, easy to approach devotional. I also read it with a group!
