Trusting God - Why His Plan Is Better Than Ours

Rate this book
We, as humans, go through seasons in our lives as God works, grows, and teaches us. I personally believe I do my best writing when I write about what is currently going on around me—when I write about a season that I am currently in.

In this particular case, I knew I was in the midst of a season of learning to trust God in a BIG way. He was challenging and testing me, seeing what I wanted to do. Ultimately I had to make a decision. Fortunately, that decision was to follow God in whatever direction He pointed me in, even though it required a massive amount of trust.

We as Christians need to understand the importance of trust and all that it entails. This means learning both the requirements and ramifications of fully committing to God.

Sure, we love the idea of faith, but what do we really do when the going gets tough? When the finances stop flowing, our relationships are struggling, or our health isn’t perfect, what do we do? Do we trust God, or do we begin to back away and blame Him?

The truth is that it’s incredibly easy to trust the Lord when the waters are calm, when everything around us is going well. But the true test of our relationship with Him comes when the storm hits, when the waves crash down on us and everything is out of control. This is when it is the most crucial that we run to Him and trust that His plan is better than ours.

It is not easy. It will require you to become weak. However, that’s the beauty of Christ. For when I am weak, He is strong.

Wonderful book. The author showed his vunerabililty in this book in that he's not perfect, but because we serve a perfect God, he is allowing God to shape and mold him into a better Christian. Openly confessing his areas of weakness is truly an inspiration to me. It's because of this book, I'm willing to COMPLETELY trust God with my life. Thank you!

Honest, Candidly Personal, and Necessary...
I gave this book 4 stars, not because of the way it it was written, or that it touched on some profound new insight. Fact is, it covers points that any faith filled seasoned Christian should be aware of. First off the author comes across as honest. There doesn't seem to be any hidden agenda or urging from from his peers. He also shares from personal experiences that God has taken him through and allowed him to find the courage and strength to live with. What comes through in his writing is a genuine desire to encourage others with eager enthusiasm. His views and excitement as a young man, might stir that same excitement in other young people. Something badly needed in this day and age with so many young people turning away from the gospel message. His work also provides a little validation for those of us who need to be reminded of how effective our efforts can be in reaching the next generation. Again, something that is vitally necessary.

A few good points but overall questionable.

First, the authors intent: "This book is for entertainment purposes only." The title implies a desire to provide understanding in how to trust God. But for entertainment!

Second, the author "first and foremost" thanks his family for their support, then his friends, "Finally" Jesus Christ. If Jesus isn't first in the authors life, his perspective is suspect.

Third, at one point in describing his experiences he says, "I simply pick up my pride..." Doesn't he understand that from a biblical perspective pride is a sin? Pride is not something to be grasped, it is something to get rid of.

Completing this book was a challenge. Although the author makes some good points, the reader must sift through to much that is suspect. The points above make it impossible to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I have learned that I can trust God know matter what I go through that he is with me and he knows best for my life. That I don't have to fear. Let him lead the way.
