This was a very fun idea of a story for people who sunk a lot of time into games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Essentially Levi, our main character, is isekai'd into a horror game, except instead of Truck-kun, there is a mysterious prototype VR headset that is designed to be psychologically adaptive to the user, trapping Levi in an endless loop of death and respawning.
I enjoyed this book but I do think there is an important caveat to be said here that this book is primarily a horror story, and while there is a queer relationship with the MCs I hesitant to say that this is a romance due to the degree of toxicity present ( He wasn’t just the red flag, he was the bubbling vat of dye that made the red flags at the red flag factory ). The best way I can describe the dynamic between Asher and Levi is ‘Pepe Le Pew and Penelope the cat’, except that Pepe Le Pew is a homicidal psychopath who is trapped between the twin desires of wanting to kill Penelope or possess her. Very much a book for the “I don’t want to change him, I want the monster as he is” crowd.
I think that at the 2/3 mark the story did start to drag a little bit and I wish that the plot and details surrounding the horror games was a little tighter but it still remained a good piece of escapism.
I appreciate that the author included an extensive and comprehensive list of trigger warnings and support services at the start of the book, showing that while they might be writing some toxic dynamics there is still a priority placed on the care and boundaries of the reading audience.
All that being said, whilst some of the content was rather graphic, I found that due to violence being viewed through the lens of a video game I didn’t find it particularly dark or confronting, however, the initial interactions between Asher and Levi in the Slasher game, were definitely the ones that I found the most violent and I think the ones people would be the most off put by.
Super excited to read the second half of this duology when it’s released next year!

Stuck in the virtual world of the new horror game he’s testing, Liam has to learn how to survive in a reality that is constantly evolving and trying to kill him at very turn.
Groundhog Day meets Outlast meets Russian Doll, a survival horror (mostly) set in an abandoned hospital… that might not be so abandoned after all.
Just that premise alone had me hooked instantly. I’m a horror game fan, I’ve been watching playthroughs ever since I discovered YouTube, so the setting, the spooky atmosphere, the game logic — everything was so perfect and immersive.
Add on top of that a deliciously wrong enemies to lovers romance? AMAZING. And I’m talking true enemies here, like they fight for most of the book, not a two second ‘I hate him!’.
Asher was the villain you’re definitely not supposed to like, but gawd why he gotta be so sexy??
An obsessive and toxic slow burn romance that fit perfectly with the horror scenario.
There was a nice balance between romance and action, and I loved the gradual progression of their relationship, from enemies to allies, from predator and prey to a team, from fear and obsession to need and protectiveness.
The character development was insanely well done. We get to experience both of them change and evolve throughout the book. I loved seeing Levi face his fears, going from a scared streamer to a badass strategist.
Now, this wouldn’t be one of my reviews if I didn’t talk about the spice, would it?
And ohmygod was the smut filthy and intense and wrong and sexy. Their dynamic starts off really iffy, and I loved that slowww build-up, Levi slowly starting to fall for Asher, Asher going from a horrible monster to a patient guard dog waiting for his treat. That’s exactly how I pictured him, just staring at Levi with puppy dog eyes until he says ‘Yes, you can touch me’.
The spice was teasing, dark, seductive.
I loved everything about Immersed. A creative plot, an immersive setting, characters with layers and depth (even the NPCs), a really dark romance, an actual storyline with intrigue and mystery. An instant fave, and I need book two immediately, because sci-fi horror is my second-favorite type of horror and I need more Asher and Levi.
PS — The non-canon bonus short was the cutest side quest ever, the comedic relief I needed after this super intense read.

An instant fave, and I need book two immediately, because sci-fi horror is my second-favorite type of horror and I need more Asher and Levi.

My review:
I have kind of mixed feelings about this one, but overall I did enjoy it. It worked really well as dark escapism, especially if you’re in the mood for a horror and a little messed up story. That said, around 40-50% of the book, the story definitely started to drag for me. I found myself getting bored in places and even tempted to skim some chapters, especially when the horror game elements started to feel a bit loose and repetitive. The book was mostly interesting because of the dynamic between the two characters, and, sadly, this is one of the books where I found myself not caring much about the actual "plot" or the NPCs. It actually ruined things for me more than anything, because it got slow and boring.
One thing I really appreciated right away though was the care the author took with trigger warnings. The list at the beginning is thorough and clearly thought out, and I liked that it was paired with support resources (I don't know if I've ever seen an author do that before!) . Even though the book plays with toxic dynamics and graphic moments, it still felt like the author was being mindful of readers’ boundaries and making sure we knew exactly what we were jumping into.
“What happened to him, exactly?”
“He was reading your notebook,” Asher said, studying the electronic devices with a frown. “Taking pictures of the pages with his phone. I didn’t like that.” The matter-of-fact admission made Levi’s skin crawl. “So you killed him.”
“I protected your privacy,” Asher corrected.
Content-wise, some scenes are violent, but because so much of it is framed through video game mechanics, it didn’t always feel as dark or heavy as I expected. The exception for me was the early Slasher game interactions between Asher and Levi. Those were the most uncomfortable and intense moments, and probably the ones that will put some readers off. After that, the violence felt more distant and.. well, that's when I started enjoying myself less. Maybe I’m the one who’s fucked up lol, but the author puts a heavy emphasis on this being a horror story, very dark and gruesome. Maybe I expected too much, or maybe something is wrong with me, but I stopped feeling those vibes after the 40–50% mark.
The relationship itself was exactly the kind of messed-up dynamic I was hoping for. Asher’s immediate fascination with Levi is unsettling, and I loved that Levi’s reaction was basically “what the hell is wrong with you, stay away from me, you fucking psycho.” It felt realistic and it only added to the unease we should be feeling when reading a story like this one. I also appreciated that the story acknowledges how much of their early connection is rooted in trauma bonding and survival instincts, especially since Asher can be deeply selfish and unhinged at times. I'm also glad that after that, we dive more into the "psychological" side of things, especially in their relationship; it's full of manipulation, gaslighting, love-bombing until the end, and THAT'S what I signed up for.

Levi was mostly relatable, but wow, his lack of self-preservation stressed me out LMAO. There were moments where his decisions felt straight out of a slasher movie stereotype, (which I guess fits?), but it still made me want to yell at him or shake him. It didn’t help that the other characters constantly ignored him/slowed him down, which just added to the frustration, especially since we don’t really know anything about them. They’re presented as NPCs, yet Levi keeps caring about them like they’re real people. So which is it? Are they AI, NPCs, or real people trapped like him? I get that Levi is an empathetic person, but in a setting like this, it felt unrealistic that he would care almost more about their survival than his own.
By the end, I was left with more questions than answers. Some worldbuilding and plot elements never fully clicked for me, and there are big things that feel unresolved, especially regarding the nature of the world itself and certain character motivations. Because of that, I’m not super excited to continue the series. That said, I might still check out book two eventually, mostly because I want answers rather than because I’m emotionally invested. (At the beginning, is Levi already in a simulation or is that the real world??? If Asher is also a real person, why is he so different from the NPCs yet can't remember that he's real? Are the NPCs really NPCs?) I get that we're probably getting those answers in book 2 but... to me, book 1 feels frustrating and not finished because we didn't get those answers or proper hints.

This is such a unique book, I was hooked from the first time loop.
Asher is such a god-tier down bad MMC, I mean, he changes the universe so he’s on the same side as Levi. He’s a menace with no shame and a malfunctioning moral compass (warnings included at the start of the book and appreciated) but he is Devoted to the extreme.
Levi is our POV main character and a delightfully refreshing change to standard horror movie/game protags. He is sensible and methodical in his approach to try and work things out about the world around him, and he is written so genuinely that when he does struggle with everything that’s happening, it’s emotionally raw and intense. My concerns about everything being streamed (which Levi doesn’t really bring up past the start?) are thankfully resolved closer to the end of the book.
And what an ending that was! So excited to see that there’s a sequel in the works.
Major kudos to the author for balancing the horror elements of the ‘gameplay’ alongside the romance. It felt so atmospheric and easy to visualise.

This book has a lot going for it:
✅ A comprehensive list of TWs. I rarely read these but I’m glad they’re there for those that need them. Do as I say, not as I do and read them thoroughly!
✅ A well-executed premise. I haven’t had the pleasure of reading many books set in a video game and this was a treat! The mystery was also very engaging, perhaps even more so than the romance when it finally turned into a romance👀 (another treat).
✅ Great MCs with great chemistry. Asher I can take or leave but Levi’s growth was fantastic to watch and seamlessly executed. The back and forth between them was 🥵 once Asher got his act (somewhat) together.
What needs some work:
❎ There were a few typos (mostly omitted words) but nothing that significantly disrupted my reading experience.
All in all, I’m very excited to see where things go from here and best believe I will be SAT for book 2!

When I saw this ARC appear on Gay Romance Reviews a week ago, I thought, "That has to be the most unique-sounding MM romance book I've heard of in a long time." And then I read it, and it not only was the most unique MM romance book I've ever read, it was also my book of the year so far.
I don't know if I'll be able to properly put into words just how much I enjoyed this book, so I'm just going to ramble, so forgive me for any tangents. Also, do not let the length of this book deter you. I remember looking at the page count beforehand and thinking, "There's no way a book like this needs to be that long," and let me tell you, it absolutely did need to be, and there wasn't a single page that felt wasted.
IMMERSED is Book 1 in the new series Virtual Vice. It follows Levi, a streamer who, in honor of his brother's memory, is about to do a charity stream to raise money for a mental health organization. Levi's brother, Ethan, was a massive horror fan, and to dedicate the stream to Ethan, Levi is sent a horror-themed virtual reality headset from a company to "beta test." As soon as he puts on the headset and starts the game, he's transported into a series of horrific scenarios with a bunch of very human NPCs while being hunted by a killer. But death is not the end, nope, it's a reset, and Levi has to gather himself each time and find a way out of the horror show he's been dropped in.
I'm going to preface this by saying that, besides reading, horror games are my other biggest passion. Both playing and developing. This book, for me, felt like it took the best part of all my favourite horror games and melded them together into this twisted, horrifying nightmare that never seems to end for our MC. I was on edge, excited, scared, and just having the absolute best time while reading this book, despite how dire the situations were. It genuinely feels like you're reading a script for an incredible horror game at times. I truly could not put it down.
Our MC, Levi, is a character filled with so much grief and anxiety but also determination and a steadfast promise to protect people. He was an absolute joy to read. The way he navigated certain situations in this book, I don't think I've ever felt a character's journey so viscerally as I have with Levi. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the person at the end of the book is wildly different from the person at the start; I just think the circumstances of everything he goes through force this version of himself to emerge. He really impressed me one minute and had me sobbing the next. He underestimates himself a lot early on, and it takes traumatic scenarios, and a very special someone, for him to see just how strong he really is.
I don't really want to touch too much on our "love interest" because you really have to experience him for yourself. All I'll say is, he's a deeply complex character with many issues, and if you're wanting healthy relationship dynamics, this book is not for you. But if you're comfortable with the dark, this connection is truly something special. You'll definitely go from disliking to liking and back around again with him, but that's what makes him so enjoyable to read. To put it simply, if you've ever played a horror game and wanted to sleep with the killer, this book is for you ;)
I also want to touch on the environments in this book, specifically the hospital, because it was basically a character of it's own. I won't go into details, but I can only imagine the level of brainstorming and notes it took to keep track of everything the author wanted to do with this place, because of the scale of this entire section felt massive. It's reminiscent of Outlast at times, while also blending elements of other great games like SOMA, The Forest, and the campiness of Resident Evil in it's scale.
And that ending, it was everything I had hoped it would be and a perfect setup for a sequel I cannot wait for. This book and author really came out of nowhere for me, and I'm so glad I picked up this ARC because I haven't had this much fun with a book in a long time. I will almost definitely be back in the future to add more to this review as I've had more time to sit with it and likely re-read it again.

Can I rate this higher than 5 stars?
Immersed is an MM psychological horror romance. Levi is trying out this new VR horror game and finds himself inside the game. Worse- it’s so real he can feel everything and can’t take off his headset and can’t call for help. He lands in a cliche “camping in the woods, there’s a serial killer killing people one by one” game. He meets the NPCs and as it grows dark, he keeps seeing a figure. Then one of the girls goes missing and when he goes to look for her- he comes face to face with Asher- the killer. Then is killed horribly.
Asher is the antagonist and loves it. He kills without hesitation and in gruesome ways. He does this over and over again. Then Levi shows up. He reacts differently to everyone else and can seem to remember him even after the loop starts over. He changes tactics and strategies differently. This makes Asher excited. He didn’t realize how lonely, how monotonous his world was. He starts to become a bit obsessed with Levi…
I can’t tell you how this book had me in a chokehold! Like seriously! I’m legit now obsessed with this book! Asher is one big red flag 🚩 like the biggest red flag around. And poor Levi, adorable Levi, who just wants out of this game!!!! This is going to sit with me for a hot minute! Glad I read this in October! Definitely a vibe!!!!!

A virtual reality survival horror simulation with a toxic dark romance? Sign me up every time!
I love the “trapped in a video game” trope and add in horror and romance and it’s always going to win with me. The first simulation was terrifying and frustrating but the second and main one was truly evil. Another favourite trope of mine is “the building is literally trying to kill them” and this did that in such a fun and unique way.
This has a laundry list of trigger warnings and the author includes numbers to helplines in several countries. I appreciate them acknowledging that their book contains a lot of heavy topics that could be dangerous to the wrong reader.
Asher is not book boyfriend goals. He’s literally every red flag that’s ever existed. Possessive, jealous, impatient, and impulsive. He both wants to kill Levi and keep him whether he wants to be kept or not.
It ends with a HFN - the next book looks like it’ll have a sci-fi horror simulation and I can’t wait to see how that’s going to go.
It’s definitely not for everyone but for me this was a 10/10.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would.
Think of this as a messed up Groundhogs Day crossed with the creepiest horror game you’ve ever played (Dead Space for me).
It. Was. FANTASTIC.
This is not a short book by any means, but at no point was I bored. I was HOOKED.
You also really need to read your TWs. This reads like you are playing a horror game because Levi is, he is stuck in a VR horror game and can’t get out. So don’t skip the front warnings unless you TRULY have no triggers.
And that’s all I’m gonna say about this. I don’t wanna spoil anything. But feel free to hit me up and rave about it when you’re done.

Levi enters a charity stream in remembrance of his brother Ethan to benefit the Mental Health Awareness Foundation. But as he beta tests this new VR system, one based in horror, he enters a world he can't escape. It keeps looping with different scenarios even as he adjusts, dies, adjusts, dies, even as the killer adjusts, changes. It truly is a dark and horrifying premise and your terror rises with each change, the futility of nothing working and the reality of not being able to stop the game. It's a fascinating book that sends tingles down your spine and an ending that makes you want the next book. I received a copy of this through BookSirens and this is my voluntary opinion.

This was such a crazy ride! Crazy in the best way possible. I have never read anything like this before and the world Tate creates is amazing. A simulated video game that Levi becomes stuck in, only to fight a killer that becomes an ally then even more.
Asher is such a complicated character, what is he? There are so many questions I cannot wait to find the answer to. One minute you dislike Asher and the next his humanity comes out and you’re just as confused as Levi.
Levi was such a strong character, thinking he’s weak when he’s so strong. He never loses his compassion while also striving to survive and save Asher along with his friends. Even after so many deaths and resets Levi just becomes stronger.
I cannot wait for the next book! This was thrilling!

If you want a truly riveting, spine-chilling horror video game romance, that will leave you simultaneously wanting more and wondering when it'll end… I implore you to not only keep reading my review… But also read the book itself!
Oh my gosh, this is hands down the most unique book I have read so far this year! And quite honestly this is now in my top 10 reads of the year. Firstly, the concept was super intriguing, as I enjoy watching The Amazing Digital Circus, and I also love playing video games. So for this book to combine both of those things as well as MM romance sounded like such a great mix of elements, I just wasn't sure if this author could pull it off, as that's a lot of different things to keep track of.
I can confidently tell you, they pulled it off! I absolutely LOVED reading about Asher and Levi, their story is so unique and very dark but also beautiful in a twisted way. The world building was phenomenal especially considering the world was constantly changing and evolving, the writing just continued to level up as the story progressed further. I respect the fact that this author wasn't scared to go for it, to fully immerse both their characters and their readers in a horror filled world where escaping isn't guaranteed and where characters unfortunately die and start over again, and again. While technically the same set of characters stay the same during each 'round', they each have new nuances to them each time they start anew which just helped add to the video game aspect.
I cannot even imagine how difficult it was to write this book but I am so glad that Gale Ian Tate did. It was like I was reading a horror movie script come to life, it really made me think about different possibilities as well as trying to figure out what the goal of the game was…. There were also questions I pondered over too, such as; Do Levi and Asher make it work as a couple? Do they get out of the Simulation they are in? Is Asher a real person and not an NPC? And soo many other questions. I enjoy when a book completely immerses me into its world and makes me think about different possibilities, and Levi and Asher did just that.
While some of my questions got answered, others are left unsolved for the time being. The second book was teased in the back of this book and let's just say I am SO excited and eager to continue reading about this unique and creative world with dynamic characters, fantastic writing, and wonderful world building skills! I'm not usually a fan of cliffhangers, but I can make an exception in this case as it just makes me really eager to dive into the next book.
If you love video games, MM Romance, Horror, and don't mind your romance being of the dark variety, you should give this book a read.

Now this was a ride. Already through chapter one, my whole insides were clenching. Just the idea of this technology had anxiety building, but in a good way, you know? The way you feel like when you're about to start a new game you've been looking forward to forever, or that movie or book you've waited years for to finally release. That kind of anxiety. The feeling of how you already know that you're going to absolutely love this, and your brain can't really adjust to the feeling.
The game setup pulled me in right away. It was all so well explained, I felt like I was right there in the made up world with Levi. And let me tell you something, I'm not the kind of reader to imagine the world I read about. I know, it sounds boring, but unlike many other readers I know, I can never do the whole "see it like a movie" thing. But this one? It was described so stunningly, even I saw the world Levi saw.
We got to know the NPC's, the world, the enemy, and even though we followed Levi through every respawn, even I forgot that the other characters were made up. Or well, who knows what they are, considering the twists and turns this take, but even though they kept coming back after one gruesome death after the other, we got to know them, love them, and I felt Levi's heartbreak each time he had to watch them die.
I didn't want them to die, either.
Anyway. This book is almost impossible to write a proper review of without spoiling, but it was extremely good and the beginning chapters messed with my head just as much as they messed with Levi's. I was so frustrated, so confused, so ANXIOUS, but in a good way, you know?
And Asher... Oh Asher. I want to hate him, so much, but can I? I'm not sure. And with the ending, what we learn those final chapters? Hell. I have no idea anymore. I don't know anything at all. I need that next book, so so so badly. I usually hate cliffhangers, but honestly when it comes to this book it's perfect. It leaves you just the right amount of confused, wanting more, but I didn't feel as frustrated as I thought. Just... really, really ready for the next one.
So yeah. Here's my usual rambling, and the usual recommendation to go read this yourself. Because my review won't make you any wiser, but if you enjoy dark books that will mess with your head, you will definitely want to read this one.

Wow, this was definitely on the dark side. I immediately fell in love with the cover, and the content matched the pretty cover. I love a possessive character and Asher definitely fit the bill. Loved the chemistry between the main characters and all of the tender moments among all of the horror. Really looking forward to the sequel.

Levi isn't sure, but he's literally 'immersed' in a new game via a VR Headset following a trail to find out what made his brother Ethan die.
He's got the demo of a new horror game and in the game is where he first meets Asher.
There's also a host of other people he realises are NPCs despite how real they feel.
From a camp in a forest where they're hunted by a serial killer, to ghost hunting in an old sanitarium, each level ends with another death, another reset.
But with each reset, Levi is the only one who remembers the previous levels - well, apart from Asher. And Levi doesn't know who, or what, he is.
Gosh, this is a pure adrenaline ride. Following the clues left for them, Levi fights his growing attraction to and dependency on Asher, who changes who he is with each iteration.
He's the perfect dark book boyfriend, possessive, snarky, violent and uber protective.
The chemistry is off the charts, we get lots of steam from dub con to captive/captor tropes, visceral horror and romance.
This book is a thrilling mix of Silent Hill, Thirteen Ghosts and Frankenstein.
And I can't wait to see what happens next.

4.5⭐ This book dragged me out of my reading slump and combined two of my favorite genres: MM romance & horror! While I was reading I was also getting strong Until Dawn vibes and in the end author's note she gives a nod to the game.
Also know that this is written like a horror game with murder on page, lots of it, scary creatures (I am now terrified of CLAP CLAP CLAP), non/dub con situations that may or may not bother you depending on your own personal triggers. There is zero OM/OW sexual situations and a very possessive unstable MC who is an absolute treat to read about.
Seriously, if you're even the slightest bit tired of the same tropes/situations/MCs. If you enjoy video games, horror movies, and boys with questionable ethics you need to read this. Check the TW warnings🖤
“You’re trying to plan the perfect seduction in a death maze.” “It’s not a death maze,” Asher said. “It’s just... challenging architecture. And I can make it romantic. I’ll find candles.”I know what you want to know is if there is an HEA. There is a definite HFN as this is only book 1. But the ending 100% has the couple together as a couple with zero plans to change that status unless it's to make their relationship stronger.

“Beautiful things never last,” he said softly, raising the revolver. “They wither. They decay. They disappoint you when you get to know them too well.”
Immersed starts out very strong. Levi is wanting to step into a horror game to raise money on behalf of his brother who recently passed. Horror games were never something Levi liked, but his brother did. He goes into the game wanting to try his best, but also questioning why everything seems so real.
The author did a really great job with the imagery, making it also feel like I, as the reader, was also in this game with Levi. It definitely takes you on a journey. The detail was also vivid and graphic (content warnings in beginning of book). I personally love graphic, I feel like I get more into a story that way.
I could also appreciate that although this was a game Levi stepped into - the atmosphere, the characters and the way everyone reacts kept changing. It kept it fresh. For a while.
I do have to admit the first half of the book was my favorite. I felt like once I hit the half point I started wondering when this was going to give some answers to questions. I felt like we were stuck in the game for way too long. So no surprise that I was very disappointed that there really weren’t any answers. In the very last pages of the book Levi does wake up, but then he immediately goes back into the game. And now there’s a new game for a second book, which I’m assuming might have more answers.
Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be reading the second book. I really feel like with 400 some pages this could have been wrapped up nicely. Not the kind of situation(s) I would want to keep reading over and over.
This is my fault because I had no idea this wasn’t a standalone going into it. I got it from GRR and I missed where it said being a part of a series or whatnot.
Oh well, nice enough read and I’m glad I got to try it.
Probably 3.5 stars overall.
Immersed starts out very strong. Levi is wanting to step into a horror game to raise money on behalf of his brother who recently passed. Horror games were never something Levi liked, but his brother did. He goes into the game wanting to try his best, but also questioning why everything seems so real.
The author did a really great job with the imagery, making it also feel like I, as the reader, was also in this game with Levi. It definitely takes you on a journey. The detail was also vivid and graphic (content warnings in beginning of book). I personally love graphic, I feel like I get more into a story that way.
I could also appreciate that although this was a game Levi stepped into - the atmosphere, the characters and the way everyone reacts kept changing. It kept it fresh. For a while.
I do have to admit the first half of the book was my favorite. I felt like once I hit the half point I started wondering when this was going to give some answers to questions. I felt like we were stuck in the game for way too long. So no surprise that I was very disappointed that there really weren’t any answers. Ugh I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. If I could erase one book from my memory to read it all over again, I'd probably pick this one. Definitely one of, if not my favorite dark romance book yet. 😩 Full review to come.

I know you should judge a book by its cover but COME ON the cover is what drew me in and the storytelling is what made me stay, immersed, sucked in—whatever you wish to call it 'cause my goodness i couldn't put this down.
We are sucked into a world where imagination runs wild—the author's, by the way—and you are not disappointed. The "world"-building was truly vivid and the action and twists and turns have you in a chokehold.
There were moments where I had to stare off into space just to process what I just read (in a good way) and I am still so cooped up in everything Levy and Asher that I fear I've gotten a bit of a book-hangover.
You will be spooked, flabbergasted, anxious and pensive. You will swoon, gasp and not wish for the book to end just yet.
This is a true gem.

This one is going to stick in my head for a while. The sheer horror of it all was so well executed. The characters grow and develop organically, and the suspense of the unknown in the changing environment kept me on the edge of my seat. I’ve been left with so many questions and I can’t wait for the sequel.

This was such a unique and interesting story. The concept of going into a video game but being fully immersed and unable to leave is so exciting! I loved Levi, the protagonist, mostly for the fact that he was so realistic! He was scared, wanted to go home, and had problems in the real world.
My only issue when reading (which was barely anything), was the streaming info. As someone who used to be a streamer, having 150 followers but 50 people watching is kind of unheard of. Also, he plugged in a brand new game system that he hadn't opened and he was immediately able to stream? Tech is the worst, and it's certainly not going to behave immediately!
I was so glad to see this is becoming a series. Not just because I want to read more, but because there's so much left to unpack. We have so many mysteries, and the end of this book made me keen to find out what happens next!

Brilliant
I've never read anything like this before i really enjoyed it. I don't think it was too dark so if you do read dark romance don't let yourself be put off obviously read the tw if you have triggers but maybe I'm OK with too much 😅🤣 it is horror and the romance isn't flowers and feelings (of the usual kind) lol I can't wait for the second part. It ends on a HFN but you can tell they're will be more obstacles and in real life asher would be the biggest red flag in the world. I enjoyed the jealousy I hope there is more of that in the second part he's very possesive as well as crazy with a capital C. 🤣 but read it excellent story. To me was like silent Hill/ resident evil vibes that kind of game. Also side character I really liked jasper.

All I can say is that I am obsessed. This cover was stunning and the premise had me so excited. This book did not disappoint. An absolute feral and unhinged MMC and a horror game that just won't end. I think what was so cool about this book was that I felt like even as a reader, I was being pulled into the game, which was both thrilling and scary. This ends on a HFN not an HEA.

Loved it
Wow, such a different kind of book, never read anything quite like it.
Our mc ends up stuck in a horror VR game, dying over and over. All the while trying to find the way out, and some of the NPC'S don't quite seem like NPC'S. Spice lvl is 2/5 but don't let that scare you such a good book, can't wait for number 2.

What a fabulous story! Not like the usual types I've read from Gale, but so great! I was there, I felt what they felt, experienced what they went through, and I loved it!!!

I love the cover. I love the chapter titles.
My actual rating is 3.5 but it's not bad to be demoted to 3 stars so 4 stars it is.
Some time this year I tried another streamer heavy novel and hated it. This was bearable enough because the scene is essentially a setup of the wider story.
I took so many breaks while reading this. The book is dense. But at the same time if it was split into 2 books I would've hated it; if it was shorter I would've hated it as well. But at the same time, where we leave off the story and the setup for book 2, I don't think I'll continue with the series.
If perhaps I was unconsciously reading for Halloween themed books this month (that is by end of October) then this one wins.
There are some fundamental questions in this world that haven't been answered by the end of the story that are rubbing me the wrong way. That are making me say you know what, I think I've had enough of this world:
Now, Levi as a character in this story was relatable but he also had his moments of TSTL /he has no sense of self preservation that made me want to scream. The story heavily embodies white people in a slasher genre and I can't even blame Levi for it because people purposefully were not able to listen to him.
As I was reading at 38% I wrote:
I am conflicted.
I am scar-oused.
I am discombobulated.
But, my interest is captured 100%.
By 51% however I was getting frustrated because fundamentally the overall storyline was moving forward but at a snail's pace. But always I'll give props where they are due because even though the scenarios were being reset, the story flowed so that they are not cumbersome to read.
So, in conclusion, I loved the overall world. Not so much that we do not have a proper why by the end of the story. I can appreciate Asher being scar-ousing while at the same time be disgusted by his overall character. I'll not rule out reading book 2 but even the slice of life scenario at the end of this story doesn't endear Asher to you.

This has been my favourite read of 2025 so far! I literally couldn’t put it down and finished it within a few days- which is wild for me because I’m such a slow reader 😅
Immersed is a perfect concoction of horror, video game logic and dark romance.
Levi is an angel boy and unlike a lot of horror book/game characters he’s actually really clever and logical which makes him that much better!
And Asher… damn. He crazy and I love him 💀
