Officer Lila Rivera thought she understood loss—until death came for her twice.
Born into a family of cops, Lila lived for the badge. Her instincts and cybercrime expertise set her apart, but her fixation on Marcus Brinks cost her her career, her badge, even the lives of her family. In the wake of it all lived a grief sharpened into obsession. Revenge becomes her north star until one reckless night in a small-town dive bar...and Sam.
Sam Wilder is steady and grounded, an EMT who knows exactly who he is and has spent long enough avoiding roots. But the moment Lila crashes into his world, something feral and unyielding locks into place. Protective. Possessive. He’s ready to claim her—until her vendetta drags his entire family back into the crosshairs of the enemy they thought they’d outrun.
Apex is no rumor–It’s the predator closing in.
As loyalties strain, obsession becomes fuel, and attraction becomes volatile and consuming. The pressure is rising, the lines are blurring—and once the match is struck, there’s no stopping the inferno that follows. ---
Matchstrike is the explosive second book in the Apex Society Trilogy—a dark, cinematic romantic thriller featuring a vengeance-driven heroine, a dominantly possessive hero, obsessive villains, escalating danger, and a scorching romance forged in fire as everything tightens toward collapse.
Book 2 to this series was so good. I’m a dirty old lady and love the insta spice !! These main characters are strong and Witty and banter — while also so hot!! This is a great balance of spice and plot !! Looking forward to book 3 - TJ here we come!
Matchstrike landed on my doorstep today and I ended up devouring the entire thing in one sitting—I genuinely could not pull myself away. The pacing is lightning-fast in the best way, and every chapter left me needing to know what happened next.
Lila Rivera’s story absolutely gutted me. Her grief, her anger, her trauma… it all felt so visceral. Rhone does not shy away from portraying PTSD with honesty and compassion, and that grounded the whole book in a way that made Lila's journey hit even harder. I ached for her, rooted for her, and celebrated every moment she fought her way back toward something like hope.
And listen… I thought Chase and Moira from Gaslight were plenty spicy, but they have nothing on Sam and Lila. Their chemistry crackles off the page. The tension, the tenderness, the steam—every bit of it is electric. Sam Wilder brings such warmth to Lila’s darkness, and together they’re absolutely magnetic...even with his, ahem, BAD boy ways!
MA'AM!!! HOLY CHEEZE WHIZ ON A CRACKER!!!! I absolutely LOVED this book!
Lila has so much fire, and Sam meets her matches her every step of the way. Demanding yet gentle, she's the hurricane , while Sam is the unmoving mountain to stop her
This quote!!!! “It’s never a woman’s fault if the good Lord sees fit to put her together like a book full of sin, but that sure as shit doesn’t mean she is obligated to spread her pages for every putz who wants an easy read.”
