Beary Mated Christmas

I wanted to hide from my past and ended up sharing a bed with it instead.

Once upon a time, I dreamed of a life with my best friend. We would shift for the first time, scent each other as mates, and live out the happy ever after that only Fate could provide.

Our first shift is Christmas Eve. What could be more magical than that? He scents like peppermint bark and chocolate, and I’m ready to call him mine. Only, to him, I smell every bit the wet polar bear I am. Getting through the last six months before I can go to college is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I manage.

I avoid going home and reopening the wounds of my heartbreak. Each year, I find something to keep me occupied in my college town. This year, my family offers to come and spend the week with me, and I panic-lie, telling them I have to travel for my graduate thesis. I book the first place I can find to hide out for the season…or at least I thought I did…

Yup, she botched it. Just shy of the half-way mark the author botched it.

Because… What the fuck happened?? The first half was so good!!! I didn’t even know it was possible going from totally enamored to wanting to throw the book out the window.

So, there was a misunderstanding between these two childhood best friends when they were 18 that caused them to split. Now, ten years later they coincidentally get double booked in a cabin (the theme of the series) and meet again. Both have been pining for each other so bad. It was glorious and heartbreaking and honestly, thrilling.

AND THEN out of nowhere they both lay the cards on the table like “I knew you’ve always been my mate”-style and boom, basically HEA—knotting, mating, pregnant, proposal. All in the span of a few days, still at the cabin. AND ALSO!! With how the first half of the book was told you wouldn’t even know this was an omegaverse, who even had which designation (we only knew what kind of shifters they were) and that one of them could get pregnant. After that it was only my alpha-my omega-my mate-talk and I was done.

What a bust. Such good build up and then just drowned in overly sweet syrup and drawn out happy ending.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review: Beary Mated Christmas by Lorelei M. Hart

Beary Mated Christmas is a tender, emotionally rich holiday romance that blends second chances, fated mates, and shifter magic with heartfelt longing. Lorelei M. Hart delivers a story that’s as cozy as it is poignant, proving that sometimes the greatest love stories are the ones that take time—and a little Christmas magic—to come full circle.

Denali’s heartbreak is palpable from the start. His first shift and the crushing realization that his best friend and intended mate, Abel, didn’t scent him the same way is quietly devastating. Hart does an excellent job capturing the ache of unrequited love, especially when it’s tied to fate itself. Denali’s decision to run from his past feels painfully human, even in a paranormal world.

The forced proximity trope shines here. The “accidental” shared bed at the holiday resort sets the stage for unresolved emotions to resurface, and the tension between Denali and Abel is thick with years of hurt, longing, and love that never truly faded. Abel’s struggle—caught between what fate dictated and what his heart eventually recognizes—adds depth and emotional nuance.

What truly stands out is the warmth of the story. The holiday setting, found-family vibes, and the promise of healing make this novella feel comforting without losing its emotional weight. The mpreg element is handled with care and heart, enhancing the sense of hope and future rather than overshadowing the romance.

Short but satisfying, Beary Mated Christmas delivers everything readers expect from a Lorelei M. Hart holiday novella: strong omegas, devoted alphas, fated mates with complications, and a guaranteed happily ever after. Perfect for readers looking for a cozy, emotional, and romantic escape filled with second chances and Christmas magic.

“I gotta tell you, buddy, I didn’t think you’d smell like wet bear, but you’re beautiful, so all is forgiven.”

This is the second book I've read in the multi-author series, Double Booked for the Holidays, by the writing duo of Lorelei M Hart. When this book appeared on Booksprout I grabbed it since this is a great series. I can't wait to see what's up next.

It's been 10 years since they've seen each other and even though nothing has changed all the old feelings of the ultimate rejection resurface. Fate can be fickle at times. "My brother had once said that Fate didn’t make mistakes, and he might be right, but she was also great at messing with my emotions".

Sweet second chance

This was such a sweet second chance story. I loved the quirk of one mate not being able to scent his mate. It made the story more Interesting to see how they could overcome that and follow their hearts. Or trust the polar bear and his assertion they are definitely mates. The ending was a surprise for a few reasons and I loved it.

Denali and Abel are fated mates, but Abel doesn't scent Denali. This leads to an eighteen-year separation. Even when they're accidentally double-booked into a cabin for the holidays, Abel still doesn't scent Denali. They eventually find out why after they admit to themselves that they are meant to be with each other.

4.25 stars

This is part of the multi author Double Booked for the Holidays series and features two best friends, each in love with the other and feeling in their hearts that they were mates but, because of an unheard of occurrence, they lost touch for ten years. Now, thanks to the resort for double booking the cabin they’d each rented in order to avoid Christmas, suddenly they’re finally back in each other’s lives again.

This was such a sweet romance. It literally brought tears to my eyes a couple of times and I wanted to hug both of ‘em, not only for what they had gone through but also because they came out on the other side as close as they’d been as kids and I loved it!

If you enjoy reading unusual fated mate romances, you might want to check this one out ‘cause it offers an issue different from anything I’ve ever come across before but, though it might’ve been delayed, their HEA wasn’t gonna be denied. Really good book! 4.25 stars.

I loved this book, it is a great mm mpreg Christmas story. First we have Denali who is a polar bear shifter and then we have Abel who is a wolf shifter and then we add lots of years of friendship and love and you get the perfect family. These two did have a decade long break in the middle where they both thought the deserved or had a different mate, only to end up “”stuck” together in a cabin in the woods for the holidays. They both were running from the fact that they each missed the other so much it hurt. I also loved how them getting back together at Christmas time ended up with them mated and expecting a baby(s). I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves a great holiday mpreg story.

I loved this book! Denali and Abel are best friends until they both have their first shift one Christmas Eve. Denali’s bear says they are mates but when Abel and his wolf don’t have the same reaction, Denali can’t bear the heartbreak and the two will spend many years apart. But a holiday vacation mixup will find them sharing a cabin and soon discovering that they are mates and it will lead them to the happily ever after they never thought they would have. I love how they get this second chance and it gives them both a reason to love the holiday again!.

Denali & Abel

A wonderful second chance romance during the holiday season. Fate really shined down on these two, knowing how much they were each pining for one another and not taking the steps to reconcile on their own after their many years apart. I loved how they both embraced the sudden chance to change their fate and didn't further squander said chance. The two mates had such an easy way with each other, with their banter, their memories of better days, and ideas for their new future.

My only disappointment was that we weren't given a resolution or reason behind Abel's nasal issues. I would have loved to see something beyond a throwaway comment from his parents.

Beary Mated Christmas was a short and sweet holiday romance between two former best friends who reignite & refresh the love they never lost for one another.

Love, magic, and second chances all wrapped up for Christmas.

Ten years ago on Christmas Eve, alpha polar bear shifter Denali experiences his first shift and realizes his friend, omega wolf shifter Abel is his fated mate, but Abel’s wolf doesn’t sense it. Denali leaves town to escape heartbreak, while Abel associates the holidays with loss and longing. A decade later, fate brings them together in a double-booked cabin, forcing old feelings, regrets, and unspoken tension back to the surface as they confront what they’ve both been missing.

Friendship deepens as they cook, bake, hike, and explore their shifter instincts, teasing and testing boundaries while slowly acknowledging the love they’ve denied. The tension breaks when they finally mate and mark each other, claiming a bond that’s been waiting for years.

Their first Christmas together is full of joy, domestic adventures, and the promise of a future built on trust and intimacy. Abel discovers he’s pregnant, and the couple begins building a family full of love, loyalty, and holiday magic, learning to balance daily life with the intensity of their bond.

Denali grows from a young man hiding from his past into a confident, caring alpha, while Abel embraces love, partnership, and parenthood. Their relationship evolves from distant friends to deeply bonded mates, navigating trust, intimacy, and life together, discovering that love can heal and transform even the deepest wounds.

A steamy, high-intensity MM holiday romance with childhood friends to lovers, fated mates, first shifts, mpreg, and cozy cabin confinement. It’s about reconnecting with your heart, claiming your mate, and building a passionate, trusting life full of intimacy, holiday magic, and belonging.

The Elevator Pitch: A steamy, emotionally charged MM holiday romance following an alpha polar bear and an omega wolf who reconnect after a decade apart. Their reunion in a cozy cabin awakens long-suppressed feelings and shifter instincts, leading to a passionate bond and the challenges of building a family. Their story blends love, destiny, second chances, and the warmth of holiday magic into a deeply satisfying, heartfelt romance.

4.5 stars rounded to 5

This book in the Double Booked for the Holiday shifter series is delightful, as is any book by Lorelei, in my opinion. Alpha polar bear shifter Denali has been best friends with omega wolf shifter Abel since they were very young. Denali has loved his best friend and scented him as his mate, just waiting for the first time they shift to have Abel feel the same way— only Abel doesn’t scent Denali as his mate. Broken-hearted, Denali finishes his senior year, then leaves for school and doesn’t return for ten years, unable to bear the idea of seeing Abel again and not have him as his mate. Over the same time, Abel has known Denali was his mate, and he has been broken-hearted and alone, too.

Fate intervenes when both are escaping Christmas with their respective families, renting a cabin in the mountains. All should be fine, but the cabin is double booked and the two must spend their time together if they don’t want to return home. As happens with forced proximity, they actually talk and acknowledge they are mates, even without the scent bond, and nature takes its course. Mated, marked and pregnant, they move forward, forging a life together, (and learn something that could have changed things ten years ago). But all comes right in the end, as these stories always do, with adorable babies and a HEA.

I know going into each story from this author that love, mating, and babies with a HEA is waiting for me. The engaging characters may be different, the setting may vary, but I always get a satisfying read that leaves me smiling throughout, and especially at the end, and sometimes an emotional tear or two at something that grabs my heart. For sweet, interesting and entertaining stories, you can’t go wrong with ANY book by this author(duo). Love them all!.

Abel and Denali were childhood friends who grew up always together. When they came of age to shift for the first time, Denali immediately recognizes Abel as his mate. Abel's beast, however, doesn't feel the same. Broken-hearted, Denali goes off to school and finds excuses to stay away from home so that he doesn't have to see the mate that rejected him.

One Christmas, he books a cabin so that he can remain alone over the holidays. He's stunned when Abel arrives, having booked the same vacation home. Spending the holidays together, old feelings return and what once seemed impossible becomes very possible.

Spending the holidays together rekindles their old relationship that quickly intensifies, with both admitting that they are mates. Denali, once devastated by Abel's rejection, learns to trust him again and take a chance at forever. Abel, for his part was hurt when he lost his best friend. As an adult, he is also willing to take a chance on Denali.

These two characters are sweet together. They have a strong physical relationship, but more importantly, they are friends first willing to work toward something lasting between them.

Four stars for this second chance omegaverse holiday romance.

This book is part of the multi-author Double-booked for the Holidays series. Each book is a standalone read that focuses on a different couple. This is the story of Abel and Denali. Abel is an omega wolf shifter. Denali is an alpha polar bear shifter. The two have been best friends for years. They grew up together and shared their first shift together. Both are sure that they are fated mates. But when it finally happened, it didn't happen. Abel didn't smell Denali as his mate. Unfortunately, Denali did recognize Abel as his fated mate. This was a crushing blow to Denali so he left town as soon as he could. It was too painful to be around his mate that didn't want him. So both of them lost the joy of their best friend and of Christmas. Ten years later the two meet again when the cabin that they rented turned out to be double booked. This is their story. Each has to decide if they want to stay and see what happens. Will they be up for possible further heartbreak? The book is written well and is easy to read. I enjoyed the story as we are getting in to the Christmas season. A sweet holiday read to put you in the festive mood.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. Two best friends torn apart by the mate bond. Abel Walker is a wolf shifter and Denali Ashe is a polar bear shifter. Both have been dreaming of being mates. They finally shifted with each other during the Christmas holiday. This was the time that they should have been able to claim each other as mates. Unfortunately, only one of them felt the mate bond. Denali could handle not being around his mate and have him not acknowledge their connection. Though Abel’s wolf claimed Denali, there were no other signs. Both Abel and Denali steered clear of anything having to do with Christmas and home after that year. After ten years, fate finally stepped in.

Abel always booked a cabin over Christmas break. He was a school teacher and needed some time to relax before the semester started up again. Denali decided to book a cabin getaway this year when his parents tried to come visit him for Christmas. Heading to Winter Wonderland Wilderness Lodge probably wasn't the best for someone who wanted to avoid all things Christmas. At least he will be left alone. Imagine his surprise when he got there to find his long-lost friend already occupying the cabin he booked. The cabin was double booked. Could these two bury the hatchet and get to know each other as adults? They both still loved each other. Maybe they could be each others' chosen mates. Will these two take the plunge their animals have been waiting for? Both have been pining away for the other. Will true love bring together this fated pair? I really enjoyed Denali and Abel's story. Let's get into these names for a second. Ms. Hart your name selection was on point. I loved both of their names as much as I loved the characters. Take a journey with best friends that grown up to become everything to each other.

"Beary Mated Christmas" is the second book Lorelei M Hart wrote for the Double Booked for the Holidays series. It's a second chance at love for two best friends, Denali who is an alpha polar bear shifter and Abel an omega wolf shifter. They haven't seen each other in ten years until Fate and the Winter Wonderland Wilderness Lodge reservation system double book them into a one bedroom cabin.
It's been 10 years since they've seen each other and there's a lot of baggage to get through before they get their HEA. Lot's of angsty pining. "My mate rejected me" and "I love him but he doesn't carry the mate scent." Ten years ago, when Abel couldn't scent him, Denali ran away. So, yeah, pining.
There are a few twists, but this is pretty straightforward. Love-leave-reconnect-mating-baby. It's a sweet story and here's hoping our twenty eight year old MCs are in a better place than their eighteen year old selves.
Quick, fun. Good story by authors that are always consistently enjoyable.

This was a pretty cute story about 2 best friends accidentally reuniting when they end up double booked in the same cabin. At 18, Denali is pretty sure Abel is going to be his one true love and is hoping Abel feels the same. When they shift for the first time Denali can scent from Abel that they're fated. Unfortunately, Abel just smells bear and nothing more which breaks Denali's heart so he effectively runs away (because talking? what's that?). 10 years later they both try to avoid Christmas every year and this time accidentally end up double booked at the same place for their yearly escape. When they meet back up sparks fly and cutesy, fluffy times ensue. There is not much angst in this story and these two are quite cute together. If you're looking for a Christmas themed read that's mostly fluff and good vibes, this is for you.

Second Chance for Shifters…

First & foremost, this story could have used at least 1-2 more proofreads & slight edit changes. That said, the premise is cute AF. A wolf & a bear who grow up besties, shift together at 18. Turns out the one who couldn’t scent their mate let alone their friend with a nose that works properly in every way (mostly) for them to carelessly brush it off & break a heart. Kind of a funny take on fated mates, in that typically in stories like these both noses work fine, which strengthen the bond that was created in childhood. My rating of five stars is a bit generous, but I want to love every single book of this particular series. It is Mpreg & while I would’ve loved to see a bit more of the gestation period & see how the alpha took care of their omega. But as the author didn’t choose to go that route, it does leave me the reader to imagine which is nice to have every so often. Now! On to the next book.

This was a really sweet story about Abel, who is an Omega Wolf shifter and Denali, who is an alpha polar bear shifter. These two were the best of friends and grew up together from a very young age, and now they are about to shift for the first time, and no, for sure that they are fated mates. But they shifted wasn’t able to smell if Denali was his mate, when he told Denali that he couldn’t smell him other than wet polar bear, Denali took off and disappeared for 10 years. When they were both double booked into the same cabin, they had a lot of years to catch up on and discovered that their animals recognise that they were mates. Long story short, they mated and Able became pregnant. There is a happy ending for both.

As described by author: 'Beary Mated Christmas is part of the Double Booked for the Holidays shared world featuring some of your favorite mpreg authors. They each stand alone and take place at the same resort that is really bad at having enough beds available.'

With that said the plot was well written and compelling and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. The characters were so very appealing and likeable and complex and complicated and perfect for each other. MPREG at it's very, very best! Enjoyed immensely and thoroughly and highly recommend.

In Beary Mated Christmas we get to meet Denali, a polar bear shifter, and Abel, a wolf shifter. After they shift for the first time together, Denali’s heart breaks when he realizes they aren’t fated mates, or so he is led to believe because Abel only scents him as a bear. From then on, Denali does everything in his power to avoid Abel and succeeds for 10 years when they get, accidentally, double booked at a cabin in a winter resort.

I liked these characters. The quickness of their relationship can be forgiven for the long-time friendship prior to them being double booked in the cabin. It was a cute story and decently written.

I love second chances and definitely best friends to lovers romances. Both of these tropes are wrapped all up in this lovely holiday romance. This romance is also part of a delightful series of forced proximity....Denali and Abel...long lost best friends...separated by misunderstandings ended up in the same cabin during the holidays. Feelings and chemistry couldn't be denied and their reunion became the best thing that has ever happened to them. This was great because the misunderstanding was drawn out...which made this romance all the more sweeter...Lovely HEA. Highly recommend!

Denali was in love with his best friend, Abel. He had been hoping that when both of them shifted for the first time, they would discover they were fated mates. But when they shifted on Christmas Eve, Abel said he smelled like a wet polar bear, crushing his heart. He moved away for college and avoided coming home. When his family offered to come to him for Christmas, he lied and said that he was going to the mountains. Feeling bad, he decided to book a cabin in the mountains, and it ended up double-booked, bringing Abel back into his life.

A faulty scent leads two mates away from each other. Ten years later they find themselves sharing the same cabin over Christmas break. Denali is an alpha polar bear. Abel is an omega wolf. When Denali says he's leaving because he's fighting with his bear they finally have a conversation and figure out they've loved each other since they were teens and Abel's inability to scent Denali as his mate had them parting ways. Now they jump right in and try to make up for lost time as they make new traditions and memories to last their lifetimes.

Denali and Abel story had a heartbreaking beginning as one detail made two best friends, a polar bear and a wolf, that aspired to be more to be separated for a couple of years until Fate interferes.
One flaw that was forgotten and wasn’t mentioned after could affected their future forever.
They communicate their true feelings and decide to trust in their hearts and animals and decide to mate a be together forever in every sense. From then on happiness is overflowing, their family growing and the holidays regain their magic.
I loved their moments together, the spoiling time, the loving and care, but most of all I adored their bundles of joy.

This is a cute, charming romance with a little heartache. Denali, an alpha polar bear shifter, and Abel, an omega wolf shifter, have been best friends since they were little. They had their first shifters together, while Denali knew they were fated mates, Abel said all he smelt was a wet bear. It broke Denali's heart and he couldn't leave town fast enough. Ten years later and both haven't been back home. They book reservations at the same lodge and end up in the same cabin because of overbookings. Spending time together makes Abel realize that they are truly fated mates and he will do anything to get Denali back. I really enjoyed this short story.

Best friends and Mates miss out on years as hurt feelings and lack of communication send them in different directions for a decade, until Fate finally steps in. Denali and Abel both knew the other was their mate, both were afraid to give it a voice. A booking mistake has them sharing a cabin during Christmas, the perfect time to clear the air. This fast paced, sweet with lots of heat story will have you flying through the pages as these two finally get the HEA they lost by hiding away.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved both Denali and Abel. That first chapter broke my heart as much as it broke Denali's. Getting Abel's chapter ten years later and to know he mourned just as much made me ache. I was so immediately emotionally invested in these two. Denali was an alpha polar bear, and Abel an omega wolf. I know Lorelei would give us a happy ending, but I was still sad reading their pain and longing even after a decade, and dying to know how it would happen and why. They were so sweet together. Though they could have opened up and talked a decade earlier lol 4 stars

A sweet fated mate second chance at love romance. I love their history together, but I'll think their separation made it all the sweeter in the end.
Abel, wolf shifter, and Denali, polar bear shifter, are childhood friends. They are both sure they belong together until after their first shift. Wheras Denali find the sweetest scent coming from Abel, there is nothing new tempting Abels nose.
Ten years later they meet again in a dobble booked cabin. Is fate finally giving them what they both have been longing for all these years apart.

Denali is in love with his best friend Abel and was hoping that after they have their first shift together they would be true mates. But when they had their first shift Denali’s bear said ours but Abel said that all he smelled was wet bear. Denali made it the 6 months before he went to college and made excuses for not going home at Christmas but this year they were coming to him. He made plans to be out of town booked a cabin and when he got there Abel had also had rented the same cabin. But Abel’s wolf said ours his smell was off so happy ending.

Second chance, fated mates, Christmas romance

Abel and Denali were best friends but also more because Denali knew they were fated mates.
He was happily waiting for their first shift so they could be together.
Unfortunately, Abel wasn't able to scent Denali.
Broken hearted, he's been running from home for 10 years.
Abel eventually realized they were mates and has been hurt as well.
A Christmas miracle in the form of a double booked cabin brings them together.
Slowly getting to know one another, they realize they're perfect for each other.
